In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a stealth action game directed by Hideo Kojima. Snake Eater was developed and published by Konami for the PlayStation 2. The MGS3's setting was a fairly dramatic shift from previous games in the series, which led to many interesting situations during the game's development period. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was critically acclaimed, and had sold 3.6 million copies worldwide by August 2005.

+Karmas Camera Incorrect. The 3D function never works in First Person as it would make aiming extremely difficult, and the 3d in Third Person is in the entire game. So no, losing an eye has no effect on the 3D at all.

When she tore open her Sneaking Suit and showed her scars, I thought about whether to find it sexual or not. I could not. She basically is the mother of the game and I had gone through so many transitions of emotion with her that I couldn't see her any other way. She is a true hero. Also I just beat the game last night at 4 AM WOOOO :P

I will never understand people's quarrel with Raiden on MGS 2. Sure, Snake is still better on pretty much every sense, but Raiden was pretty cool too. No Mary Sue, actual character development, a good reason to be in the game, good backstory - I totally got used to him right from the get go.

+tiaxanderson No, it isn't correct at all. The correct way to say it is "Six feet, five inches tall." However, it has become common place to shorten it, which becomes "Six foot five." You don't say feet again after the inches. And when it comes to writing/typing it, the only time the second way is used is when it is quoting someone speaking it in that manner, so it is written as "Six foot five." The only time someone writes or says "6'5 feet tall" is when someone is making a gaffe or typo.

Didn't cry but I sure as hell didn't enjoy doing it. Outside of Solid/Naked Snake she's my favorite Metal Gear character.

I'm surprised you didn't mention some of the technology that actually did exist during that time. For example, the hover platforms are based on real prototypes that existed, but were never produced due to them being ridiculously loud and ridiculously fuel-consuming. Sigint, Major, and Paramedic have amazing dialogue if you're willing to look for it.

I remember when I played this game for the first time, I got really frustrated with The End's fight. When I played it for the second time, the moment I reached his fight again, I saved before fighting him and thought "fuck it, I'm gonna pause here." Then, because of work and school, I wasn't able to play for some time. When I got back to it (after a week more or less) and The End was dead I was like "WTF?" kinda confused. Then I heard about the trick and I was like "dude, that's cool", because I hated this fight XD

Honestly I loved snake eater but the aiming really made it bad to play. And mgs2 had both the shitty aiming and a more shitty camera view so honestly I would say mgs5 is my favorite metal gear because the gameplay is astounding and the graphics are beautiful but then I would put mgs3 in second place and mgs2 is third place. But that's my opinion

Now I had always seen the bosses as snake conflicting with his own emotions before facing off with the boss; He fought through his Pain, Confronted his Fears, And calmed his Fury, even making it as far as The End, But was never truly able to defeat The Sorrow that followed him for so long.

I always thought Raiden was a very interesting character. I wonder if there were any other children that survived the Liberian Civil War besides him and Drebin.
I just finished this game on the 360 about a month and a half ago. I beat it three times on the PS2. This last playthrough proved yet again how incredible this game is.

I love how MGSV is basically MGS2 all over again. Even though MGSV sold well fans were upset, and even the some parts of the plot was same in a way, but then again MGS have a a thing about repeating or even recreating events which is kinda cool. Even though I wasn't a fan of MGSV story telling I enjoyed it but the ending doesn't make me wanna play some more.
Falco Lombardi I love how when certain theories went around a lot of people said that Kojima wouldn't do it because of the backlash from MGS2, boy were they wrong. I knew it was coming because it made the most sense in the order the games go and even the MSX games.

+Tryhardblackguy It was mainly because we didn't get the story we were advertised. Sure this can be chalked up to Kojima pulling ruses again, but when your trailers end up being better than the real thing, that's a problem.
Not to mention this was intended to be the final game and the trailers even said "the missing link in the saga!". We expected to see the downfall of Big Boss, the rise of Outer Heaven, questions answered and maybe even a Grey Fox and Solid Snake cameo. MGSV could have gone out with a bang, but instead it went off with a whimper.

When we first met, he was shocked that I didn't like Raiden much when Sons of Liberty released but explained that since I played MGS 1 first, I'd grown attached to Snake so seeing someone way less badass step into his shoes was tough to swallow. Because MGS 2 was his first Metal Gear, he didn't have that prior bond to Snake.
Same, it was also my first Metal Gear, if anything I hated Rose, not Raiden.

Wow. I never knew that you could snipe The End in his wheelchair. That would have saved me SO much time.
There are a lot of games with quality music that really take a good stab of equivalency on the music production in on many of the really tight scores in the movie industry. I think it often doesn't get the main scene appeciation it deserves because of the lingering scoff of down-playing video games just because of ignorance and snobbingly looking down upon an industry that just like films took time to garner the seal of approval of slow criitical acclaim that could be compared to how movies never came out as exmples perfect symmetry of audio and video. Just look at early sound movies that often baffles you at how weakly they took advantage of the power of that symmetry and realize games with awesome audio production often does not nail the compicated three-some that is really hard to please with interaction in this complicated to master medium to boot. An example is how damn orgasmic the Elder Scrolls intros are, but does not really integrate Jeremy Soule's booming masterpieces as well as they could. Final Fantasy VI and really the entire MGS score are different, they have perfect marriage of what hits your eyes, what you hear and what interwines through the feeling of participation into licencees of repeated mandate of smooth fucking goose bumps. Kojima weaving out these bloody masterpieces of video-game history in my favorite MGS, third, out of a finished score makes perfect sense, as you essentially rewerse-engineering of his genius through the game progress, much of this thanks to Kojima not only making the weirdly masterly amalgamation of Dr Strangelove and James Bond through a fucking controller! Holy shit and all hail multitasking genius that is Hideo Kojima. Fuck Konani.
OT on Audio Production: You could add Hotline Miami, Dark Souls and Limbo to the list of masterpieces as well, all for different reasons and really the audio production in games deserve more credit. You take the ambiance of Limbo for granted but imagine that game without it. Metal Gear Solid was a milestone in video games starting to come out of adolescense.
The opening that is actually just a James Bond opening. I love this game!

Can I just day that I loved MGS2 Raiden for being the most human character in the series and hated MGS4 Raiden for being the most ridiculous character in the series?

I love MGS4 too, but I won't deny it has some pretty big flaws. Raiden being one.
Ironically many people hated him because of his humanity, it's only when kojima stripped this away in 4 and turned him into a cyborg that people took more of a liking to him because he was more 'badass' quite sad really... A lot of people missed the point of mgs2, but hey ho, what can ya do.
