I inherited my Moms Grandfather clock. It has been dormant for a decade. I brought it home this weekend and it's chiming to different hours and such. It's beautiful and makes me smile every time it goes off. And I'm terrified to mess with the face like that. Your video is very helpful. Thankyou.
Thank you! I just "inherited" my Mom & Dad's grandfather clock & it got a little out of sync in the move. I gave up on about five other instructional videos because, basically, they just would not get to the point! I appreciate the directness as well as the ease of these instructions. And, most importantly, I was able to easily follow your directions & now my clock works perfectly! Thanks!!
You are absolutely wonderful!! I inherited my parents grandmother clock years ago. It had been moved around a lot. I didn't think it worked, but one day I got it chiming although it was out of sync with the correct time. I watched your video and in 2 minutes I got it working perfectly!! Thank you so much!! I am very HAPPY !!!
This worked for my problem, thank you so much for the information, it saved me having someone come out to the house to fix it, I greatly appreciate it!!
Thanks, mine is a wall clock but exactly the same issue. It's been chiming the hour on the half hour. I appreciate your help! It's been driving me crazy 🤣!
Thanks to you I was able to fix my clock perfectly, but I didn’t removed the hands, I just loosened the nut a little bit and put them at the hour the time the clock was thinking (3:00)as you said, then waited for an our to see if the clock was going to count four time at 4:00. Once I verified it was right, proceeded to put the actual time which was 9:00pm. Thank you again! 🤗
Great video! Mine was a bit different with this adjustment. The minute hand on my clock has a bushing that prevents you from taking the hand off and putting it to whatever time you choose. I had to adjust the time backwards to get the clock chiming at the right time, and then made small adjustments to the bushing to get it to chime right on the quarter hour.
I have been having trouble with a Herschede Bermuda grandfather clock that I believe has a chime sequence which is not synced correctly, because the stopper in the movement oddly gets stuck tripping for up to 8 minutes until it reaches a trigger that locks it in place. I think this is just what I need to solve this problem so all the triggers can be lined up with the time, so thank you. If not, I guess the instruction manual would be right and the movement would need to be replaced.
heya, I have quick question, I have a very similar grandfather clock I got a few days ago, and it sounds great, its been working fantastic but I do have 1 slight issue, IM not sure why by the chimes are SUPER slow, the hourly chime takes about 2-3 minutes to complete. Is that normal? Is there something I need to fix? Thanks
For model number 610-987, does the hour hand come off? I got the minute hand off with the little bolt but the hour hand seems stuck on the peg it moves on. I’m trying to set my time but seems to be off still. It does chime.
Did you stop the pendulum before you took off the nut and removed the minute hand? Also, newer Howard Miller clocks instructions specifically say to only rotate the minute hand backwards. I'm having trouble realigning chime time with actual time. I am pushing the chime time off somehow. There's a catch I'm missing somewhere.
My clock is chiming at 10 minutes past the hour and then every 15 minutes instead of chiming at 15, 30, 45 and on the hour. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you
Ok my Howard Miller clock is chimeing 4 hours off should I pull the hands and move them ahead 4 hours ? Then change the time by turning the minute hand ahead and stop every 15 and Waite before moving on to the right time ?
If you have to move the hands several hours to get to the correct time, do you have to let the clock chime at each quarter hour or just turn quickly without waiting for the chimes. If the latter approach, will the chimes catch up and be correct? thank you
You would need to allow your clock to complete each chime at each chime point before continuing. This does take generally around 15 min at most. Hope this helps!
My grandmother clock has stopped chiming(probably because I did not reset as you have done!) when I move the minute hand manually there is a “click” as the hand passes each quarter,half,3quarters,full hour but the hammers do not move to chime! Any suggestions please?
Continue moving your min hand from chime point to chime point. When you reach the top of the hour and it still does not work. I would recommend reaching out to a clock smith in your area. Hope this helps.
I would love to, However, there should be a clock smith near you that will conduct a house call where he/she can complete the set up for you. I hope this helps.
Mine had this problem..... I looked and looked and could not find it the controls for it.... THEN when I shone a flash light on the clock face I saw the shadow of the lever. I kept looing along the edges of the clock face Box for the lever, it is actually on the edge of the clock face itself just outside the "3" The top position was Silent. then a position for each of the three chimes below that. Labeled "Whitt", "St Mich", & "Westm". (for Whittington, St Michaels, & Westminster)
Margaret, normally with grandfather clocks you would not want to move your hands backwards as this may damage your clock. However if your clock is designed to rotate your hands backwards this may be a larger issue as I would recommend reaching out to a clock smith near you. Hope this helps.
We moved and our weights have not been found yet. If I order new weights does weight shell set mean it includes the weights? Or is that just the shells? I see them online but I am having a hard time finding out.
The easy answer is to start with the min hand. The nut that holds your hands on the min arbor maybe loose allowing to much play in the min hand. Try putting your min hand on the correct time and then tighten the nut. Hope this helps.
It can be something wrong with the movement. But likely it's your clock hands. Take off the min hand, there should be a nut that is part of the min hand. Use some pliers and slow and gently rotate the nut to a position that will put your min hand on time with your chime. If this doesn't help, I would recommend reaching out to a clock smith near you. Hope this helps.

Thank you! When I first started I found that to be the same problem. "GET to the point!" ...lol 😂
Same❤ lol 0:15
Thank you. I have my first grandfather clock. I bought it used so I don't have a manual. Your expertise is appreciated!!

Thanks for the video it helped me sync a 1992 Ridgeway.
You had me at disc golf on the tv. Thanks for the instructional video! Very helpful.
Glad it helped
Lmao!

I appreciate your help! It's been driving me crazy 🤣!

Very informative. Hope I can be successful!

I needed your helped pls set up my clock pls
Thanks for the video. How do you set the moon phase correctly? .
That was great adjustment advise, but how would I adjust for being off by 5 minutes in the time/chime? Thanks
My clock chimes on the hour, but is always chiming an additional chime for each hour. I do I adjust that?
With that style of grandfather clock how would you get the chime weights loosened.
Thanks!

I got the minute hand off with the little bolt but the hour hand seems stuck on the peg it moves on.
I’m trying to set my time but seems to be off still. It does chime.
It's late right now but when I give this a try I'll let you know
Do I have to take the hands off? Can't I just advance the hour hand?
I just bought one and it keeps time perfectly but will not chime. Any ideas?
Just got one and it will chime the hours then the weight free spools to the bottom

I have a 1920s Revere grandfather clock. Chimes sound but in a totally random tune. How can I fix this?
My clock is chiming at 10 minutes past the hour and then every 15 minutes instead of chiming at 15, 30, 45 and on the hour. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you
I'm at ten hours off! Do I set it the same way?
Ok my Howard Miller clock is chimeing 4 hours off should I pull the hands and move them ahead 4 hours ? Then change the time by turning the minute hand ahead and stop every 15 and Waite before moving on to the right time ?
How do you turn off the chimes when going to bed?
My grandfather clock only chimes once how do I get to chime more.
My grandmother clock is virtually identical! ....but my clock is suddenly ringing 16 times at 1 since recent 'spring fwd an hour for DST' adjustment.
Excllent video, thanks
Why does y clock ding at the hour but no more melody?
Hi Ryan! I cannot get the nut off of my clock to move the hands. I used pliers. No luck. Any other ideas? Thanks!!
I got the hour hand off but I can’t get the second hand off. It seems very tight. How can I get the second hand off? Can I use some sort of tool?
How do I fix this clock if it dosent chime at all please
Excellent.
HEY THANKS MUCH
Sounds like Fnaf😂😂
Why does my grandfather clock chime in silent mode

I have this same clock model! How do I know if the strike hammers or chime hammers are hitting too rough?
Please reach out to your nearest Clock Smith. Thank you for watching!

Just got an 1977 colonial today and have no idea how to get it to work. Can you walk Me through it?
I would love to, However, there should be a clock smith near you that will conduct a house call where he/she can complete the set up for you. I hope this helps.
Do you know if Tempus Fugit has a chime silence. Mine is not chiming and I am so sad.

The hands on my click can only be rotated backwards, but someone rotated the hands to the next hour and the hi e no l9nger matches. Any advice? Thanks

So sorry for late reply. It normally would be just the shells, the weights would be separate.
@@ryanupchurch1 Thank you. I’m hoping we will find our weights in our storage unit. It’s such a nice clock not to be running.

Chime on but not chiming happening??
I just received a grandfather floor clock as a gift and it won't chime. 😭
Please reach out to your nearest Clock smith. Thank you for watching.
Clock
Nice
mine keeps chiming 3 mins after the hour and quarter hour
I don't think my howard miller hands come off that way.
My Seth Thomas grandfather clock is not keeping good time
Voy a intentar porque suena las horas en el cuarto
But my fingers are on square shafts!
that 2nd chime rod is out of tune btw
Appreciate that. I'll get that tuned up. Thank you!
This is not how it's done. Read the instruction manual.
What about if they give you a grandfather's clock? And it doesn't come with the manual. I guess what he is saying is the best you could do.
What do you do if your chimes or 10 minutes early?
But the Clarke is in the correct time
My guess its an issue with the internal mechanism
This is a great idea, I will make a video that could help. Thank you for your great suggestion. Stay tuned for an answer soon! Hope this helped
