Very informative and helpful 👍
Thanks a lot. I had a sessions mantle clock that I only wound the mainspring and I didn’t realize it would get out of sync. This worked very well.
Fixed, 👍very happy, thank you so much, no more 12 strikes at 1.oo am.
You are welcome
That was easy to follow and worked just like you said. Thanks.
This worked! Extremely helpful. Thanks so much!
Keeping the clock and strike / chime trains wound has nothing to do with this problem of striking the wrong hour. One thing has nothing to do with the other. With clocks that have both chimes and strikes both functions stop if the chime train runs down since it triggers the strike. With those clocks the wrong hour won't be struck, but rather the hour will be struck at the wrong quarter of the hour since the chime train is out of sync and it triggers the strike train.
The problem with this clock was that the hour hand was in the wrong position relative to the snail which is human installation error. Rotating the hour hand from 6 to 7 moved the hour hand on the snail to where it should have been.
A little theory: The snail is a cam with 12 declining steps on it. It somewhat resembles the shell of a snail. The snail is fixed solid on the hour shaft. When the strike train is started at the top of the hour the rack positioning lever is dropped onto the snail setting the chiming rack for the number of strikes for the current hour. As the clock chimes the gathering pallet turns moving the rack to closer to it's finishing position when the strikes for the hour are completed. The more hours that pass as you get closer to twelve, the lower on the snail the rack positioning lever falls causing the rack to have to travel farther.
This clock doesn't have a chime train so you don't have 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and on the hour chiming. That can get out of sync if the chime train happens to wind down but the clock keeps running. Most clocks have some form of internal chime train correction which will usually engage at the 3/4 hour mark by itself. In the case of those movements just wind it up and let it run. It will correct itself.
Thank you so very much. Spot on reset of the hour chime.
Thanks so much for your help. Excellent!!
Straight forward simple to follow instructions. Thank you
Thanks
Thank you so much!!
It really worked.
Thank you for the quick fix!
I agree how do you correct if it is 6 o’clock and rings 7 times
Thanks ! Exactly the information I needed to correct the Swiss-made boulle clock I bought at a house sale.
Glad I could help!
This worked for my Howard Miller grandfather clock. Thank you!

Hello from Wyalkatchem. Western Australia. Thank you for video, Was able to fix chime
Solved my issue, and the instruction was even easy for me to follow, thanks.
My clock chimes the hour at 1/4 past the hour , how can I correct this ?.
THIS WORKED!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks! It worked!
Exactly what I needed. Thanks !
Glad it helped!
I bought a Takeda clock and had it shipped directly to my parents in 1970 while I was in Vietnam. After they passed away. I inherited the clock. After being stored for a few years, I decided to hang it on a wall in my home, and discovered it would strike as if the time was six hours ahead of the displayed time. I'm going to try your technique, carefully winding the hour hand six hours ahead and post an update to this comment.
Thank you!
Thank you: as simple as described!
You're welcome!
Your clock is chiming minutes before the hour. That needs to be fixed.
Moving the hour hand when the chime is out of sync is as easy as opening a door (I have searched for 'how to open a door' videos but none seem to be available).
Going to try this later today , hope it works
out with it lad :)
What if the minute hand is out of sync? It chimes on 10 minutes past the hour?
I notice you got a heart from the author but no solution! I have a similar problem. My clock strikes the half hour at a quarter past, the hour at 3/4 past! And it's several hours past the actual time.
@@pollyb.4648 yes, no solution. Watched tons of videos and in the end tried to fix it myself. I have really messed things up and the only way to fix it now is through a professional. My advice: don’t try & fix your clock yourself no matter how easy the videos make it seem to be. Always take antique clocks to a professional for repairs.
I’ve got a similar problem with a clock I just bought. It chimes the hours at 30 minutes past and vice versa
Hi.
So what you're going to have to do is remove the minuite hand.
There is sometimes a hand screw on the end of the stem. Remove the screw, then carefully pull the hand out. You will notice it looks like a square fitting so just place it back on at the correct angle.
Hope this helps.
@anitab3287
@@scorchinbrandon1864 Thank you for replying. The hands are held on with a pin rather than a screw. I don’t feel up to tackling this just yet… 🙏
Ihave a clock Seth Thomas Westminster Cathedral clock that was repaired but always when I wind clock the chime would be off . So with your direction ihave fixed my chime problem . Thank you . Guy montefinese
Thank you so much! My mantle clock is 5 hours chiming ahead. I’ll use your technique to get it back in sync. Once again , thanks!
What kind of mantle clock is 5 hours chiming ahead?
It’s an E. Graham; made probably over 100 years ago in Bristol, Tennessee. It’s a cherry. 😏
Thank you for your help.

Great, but why if my clock won't strike at any hour? there seems to be zero info about this in the entire internet. Typical empty void of the useless internet.

I have a Vintage Elgin Welby Division 350-060 Westminster Chime Mantel Clock it is striking the hour at 15 mins past the hour. after it strikes I have monved the min hand counter clockwise to the hour but it just goes on to stike the hour at 15 after on the next pass. Any suggestions as to how to fix. Thanks
Thank you very much!

The first couple times I tried this it failed. I then realized I had to stop the clock prior to adjusting. Voila! Perfect! Thank you.
Glad it helped!
well done easy fix
Thank u. U rock
My clock was two strikes behind the time shown. I did what you advised i.e. moving the small hand only, reset the correct time and it fixed the problem. Thank you.
How do i know which weight goes where they were off the clock or does it make a difference 🤔my body weight scale won't register the weight of the weights
Very good. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Thanks for your time ⌚, have this to do to my clock I know very little about

My grandfather clock does not chime after I set the fall back time
How to make it chime again.
How can I make my grandfather clock chime again?
Hi. Great video. Thank you.
Just found a Seth Thomas Ship's Bell c.1921, all in excellent order except that the gong is two hours ahead of the movement time... exactly two hours during the four-hour watch keeping cycle :)
Would the technique you describe here work for this situation ?
This clock does not have a silent mode switch
Yes it should
Hammer is hitting then resting on gong. Its supposed to hit then rest away from gong.
Thank you for your help. My new mechanical full height clock is now striking on the correct hour, but the Mimue hand is 4 minutes late. (Ie: it strikes the hour 4 minutes after the hour). I would sincerely appreciate your expert perspective.
Some time with these old clock that happens. it could need oil on some of the pivet points. Also make sure it is fully wound but not over wound. Give it some time. LOL
My beautiful standing clock have for 10 and half years now stop working the time going slower. . I say i would gey it fix. I put a new battery same thing. It give me many uears so i am grateful
White I appreciate the video, my full length grandfather clock is from 1992 and looks nothing like this. Not sure why you'd use a clock from 1919 as your example as while it's nice it's not a very common fit people to own COVID from 1919. Mine uses a weight system and has zero keys.
Thank you for your comment. But the process could be the same just move the hand in the proper position and reset the chime to the right time.
The hammer needs adjusting to ,the ring is dead.
He had his fingers against it so it wouldn't chime as loud.
Thanks!
Thank you so much. I hope I helped you
I only heard 3 chimes, not eight? We moved and I can’t get my clock in sync. I have it on a Westminster chime every quarter and that’s all messed up as well. The clock is running fine just the chimes are all off. 😔 Your clock is beautiful! Are you going to fix it to make it sound better? I love it.
Yes I will. Thanks for watching
Hi I have a grandmother clock and I am having a problem setting it can you give me some tips
Hi, Bulova mantel clock strikes correct hour with hands on quarter hour. ie: hands show 8:15 chimes ring 8 times. Rings on each quarter hour. Do I repair as you did above? Would be skipping the 1/2 and 3/4 hr. chimes or allow those to chime? Seems clock would chime next hour. But then could adjust hour as shown above? If you can even understand this question, what should I do? Thank you.
Just adjust the hands, take of the hands and readjusting them to the correct time.
Hi. Wow that Looks So easy!
Hope you can help with the clock I’ve just inherited please…?
My clock just doesn’t stop chiming on the hour I counted 15 or more! The hammer just keeps hitting a flat circular spiral spring in the back of the clock.
.
Also, as you look at the clock…do you wind the left for the chime spring and left for the clock, or the other way around?
Thank you SO much
It sounds like it could need oiling or servicing. My suggestion is to wind both sides do not overtighten just enough when you feel attention. Both sides have to be wound in order to work correctly. It could be stuck.
Give that a try first and then see how it goes
When you forget to wind the alarm spring, the clock WILL NOT GET OUT OF SYNC. Just wind the alarm spring and it will chime correctly. The snail, which controls the number of chimes every full hour and is connected to hour hand, has not changed position relative to the hour hand.
Thanks you
My Smiths Westminister mantle clock chimes at quarter to the hour,, how do I adjust,?
This was very helpful - thank you.
My question: I’ve lowered the pendulum disc as much as I can, but the clock still runs fast. How do I fix this?
It’s possible that the pendulum is not the correct size?
I just got the same clock but at 730 pm it chimed 10 times. It's stopped now. Will it reset it if I put it on 1200 n wind it?
After syncing the chime, to get it to correct time once more, do you turn the hands clock-wise? I’m guessing counter clock-wise would loosen the hour and minute hands once more.
Yes clockwise
Please help...I have a Hermle mantle clock and there are no screws in the back to remove the bezel. It looks like it may be pushed straight in and held by ???. I tried prying it but scared to damage the wood on the outside. It has a brass bezel that has lines around the outside. Not sure how to remove so I can change the quartz clock movement. The replacement part I found is Dual Chime Quartz Clock Movement HM354471, 16mm. Thank you!!!
Yes, it’s hard to tell by your description just take your time. Most likely you have to take it apart from the front.
Great video, We have a grandfather clock that will only strike one time any ideas?
Sounds like it needs to be serviced and oiled
Hi, thanks for the helpful video but my clock is chiming the hour in the half hour so it seems to be running a half hour ahead.. any tips on how to synchronise this please?
Take off the hands and re-apply them to match the proper time
I have absolutely no idea what he just did.
I have a school house clock and it would strike odd strikes How I fixed mine was when it struck 12 anywhere on the face I would run hour hand up to 12/ After that, it would strike the right hours afterwards.
Hi, I have antique porcelain Ansonia clock. It runs great but for some reason is chiming half hour on full hours and vice versa. How do I correct it ! I would appreciate your advice
Take of the hour hand and switch it to the correct time

I have the same problem, but using the hour hand wont fix the problem. Minute hand still strikes full hours on 6 and half hour on 12.
Wont touch the minute hand after Reading up on the net "DO NOT TOUCH IT".
Hi I have a Seth Thomas clock the chime is ahead by 5 hrs so I move the hour hand by 5 hrs.
But hope it does not damge the hour gear or shaft
You take off the Hour Handle and move it over
I got a gingerbread clock and the second hand has a sqaure hole. Some reason the swaure hole doesn't add up to the correct chime time. So I basicaly put it wrong to make the time correct it's so weird.
Yo bro recently found what I figure to be a 75-year-old clock trying to figure out how to reset it it's off by 2 hours at midnight it only strikes 10 LOL I'll try to find it it's really a nice clock and I don't even like clocks. 😁🇨🇦😁
How to adjust chimes that are off by 15 minutes? 12 oclock chimes at 12:15
Move hands to adjust time. Remove the hands to make the adjustment
I have an old 1930 clock, and it has the two crank positions. My question, is it the left side for the chime? and right side for clock? can u run clock without chime?
Yes you can
Hi there. I have an Amana Fredrick Hann Clock that strikes 5 minutes early. How do I get it to strike on the hour and half hour not 5 minutes early. The minute hand has a square fitting so I cannot take it off and place it back on to adjust for the 5 minutes. Thank you.
It might need to be serviced and oiled
How do you do it if it is chimming 4 min late then the hr and half hr
Thank you
I have a Howard Miller clock.. it's off by a few chimes. So it just went 3 times and it's 11:00.I can't really move the hour hand. It moved last night when we tried it but still not right. We have watched other videos and very confusing. So if I get it to the number of chimes or strikes (whatever it's called) then how do I move it back to the real time?
It's Possible that it may need service.
Hello I have a westminister chime mantel that chimes but doesn't strike the hour can you please help me?
Did you watch the video, it could help you
Any idea why my mantle clock chimes stopped chiming?? Thanks
I’m not really sure what I’m looking at it, but could be a good cleaning, and possibly oiled

Makes me think of a tv show..
What battery operated mantel clock...keeps chiming 20+ times no matter what hour
I have no idea that it’s crazy
We have a Howard Miller GrandMother clock. Some say only move hands in reverse. Our chime is way off. The clock is about 35 years old. Please let us know how to adjust chime. Thanks.
Never move them in reverse. you can ruin the gears. Take of the hands and move them to the correct position.
my bulova mantel clock does not open on face...what to do???
My longcase clock is sometimes not counting enough times occasionally short by one chime. Only happens for 2 to 8 o’clock.

Sounds like it could need service. It could be gummed up and not keeping track of the strikes.
@@YourReviewChannel thanks for that reply but that doesn’t explain predictable always one strike short on 2,3,4,5,6,7 o’clock does it?
How do I take the washer of the hour hand
small needle-nose pliers
My wind up wall clock has three places to use the key, It chimes 18 minuets past the hour , so 6 o'clock would be 6.18 .
You need to turn the minute hand until the clock strikes...
So let's say it strikes 6 o'clock...
Then, carefully remove the pin that secures the hands in place, or unscrew the nut, whichever it is.
Then remove the hands and set them to 6 o'clock... and re-tighten the screw or replace the pin,, holding the minute hand in position while you do it.
I have many mechanical clocks and love to watch to quick fix videos lol but now, my clock strikes 2 hrs behind the time...... can I move the hour hand backwards? please advise.
You need to remove the hands to set them
My clock stricks the hours correctly but at half hour late.. ie at 6.30 it chimes 6 times.
It has three key winding ports.
It chimes correctly ? Every 15 minutes, keeps good time, just the hour chime is 30 mins late...
Can this be reset at home ??
