One day the world will understand just how extremely, amazingly good this man was. I don't want to get into any arguments, IMHO he was THE best!!
I think a good majority of the world already knows.
I've known since 1978.
You think?
Man, he was so underrated. I've seen many genres---Bowie, Kiss, Lynard Skynard, Keith Urban, Bocelli, Rolling Stones, Pavarotti & many more. But didn't discover John until about 10 or 12 yrs ago, & so glad I did.
You know what, I think he's great too, but I also realize it's not all about how great your songs are. These days, you gotta be good looking, young, got the 'now' sound, etc.
I'm 65 years old and if I could only listen to one musician for the rest of my life it would be John Prine.
Dog that is the best thing I've read. I'm 67 and Prine has always been the singer in my life story.
Plus bob dylan
Same here. Desert Island? John Prine, Snickers bars and Budwieser.
I highly agree; and the perpetual listening would include his side stories along with his songs.
You can't beat story telling music. I'm 36.and was listening to John prime since I was a kid. I heard more songs played around the camp fire before I heard the orinal. I thank the old guys at the campground for instilling a great taste of music in me.A good song is a good song.
Pure genius. The Mark Twain of country and folk music
Music and mankind have lost a tremendous talent. "When I get to heaven I'm gonna thank God for giving us John Prine!"
I've used this saying for a long time: "If John Prine aint in heaven, I'm not going."
John Prine was an awesome singer and songwriter. His poetry was wonderful. RIP John Prine. You are missed.
First heard John in 1973 singing illegal smile. He went straight to my soul and will live there for ever. Thanks John my soul is bigger and better for having you in it
John basically let the band shine thru all these songs. He just strummed the acoustic guitar and let the band take over. Not many artists would do that. He could write songs for any type of music
He was a very generous soul so kind to others
Was having a pretty bad day, then I came across this. Man, I miss him.
I'm 70..... John Prine is the soundtrack of my life...... if ya know what I mean..... RIP John !!
Such a great entanterer thanks alot for the music over the years been great time listening to hear from you shame he has passed away good music value for us
Just for a point of reference, has anyone EVER heard a bad John Prine performance?
The vary from excellent to transcendent.
This may be my favorite concert of his of all time. He was in his PRIME and I just love this!
I wish i could spend more years with JohnPrine ,but ill spend the resy of my life listening to his music
John had a great way with words, he was a very fine wordsmith. Some Humans Ain't Human
I have played guitar with both of the guys in this band at Perry Street tavern in Medora Indiana. Larry was friends with the lead singer in our band and Dave was well known and from the same town as me. Both great talents and Larry loved John Prine so playing in his band was a dream come true. Larry was the one that got the gig for him and Dave.
That's a very cool story.
Larry is such a great guy and so talented!!
Damn sure miss ole Johnny.
Great lyrics😁 “Hand in my pocket baby thinking of you” and another “They all think my name is where the hell you been” a real wordsmith and poet. A very. Big miss to us all.
A star on earth now a star 🌟 on a heavenly stage Rest In Peace John, thank you for the music 😢
One of THE VERY BEST EVER!! JOHN PRINE.
John, you were a good man . . .
Best rock music! It doesn't get better! Wonderful band and prine in his prime! Thanks
Such a great John Prine album! Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings.
One of my favorite albums. I wore it out. Man! This band was Sssssizzlin!!!
This guy. Really, the best. When he gets back to the chorus, everyone is still right there. His writing hasn't been appreciated enough. People need to sing John Prine choruses more often. Homage to the storyteller while we miss him .
I miss you & your music dearly. Rest in Piece, John ❤️
Mannnn, I am so glad we have this video!
Some fantastic stuff by Prine; I'll never grow tired of Lake Marie. But that's a helluva backing band. Love the Strat players tasty licks, and the SG guys tone as well as playing. And the drummer is the perfect fill for these songs. Reminds me a bit of Jim Keltner.
The SG guy is Larry Crane. He played with John Mellencamp and you can see him in all of his old videos. Larry had his 13 year old daughter on this tour. She posted a wonderful tribute to John when he passed away.
Thanks PB
Lake Marie brings me to tears
yea, who are the backing band members?
Larry Crane on Guitar on Right Side, who played with John Mellancamp
The guitar slinger is David Steele.
This was recorded a only a few years after I was first introduced to his music, probably a year after The Missing Years came out. We had a very good performer here who was a huge John Prine fan, played dozens and dozens of his songs at a high level. He introduced countless people to Prine’s music. I love his entire catalogue, but this is the first album of his that came out when I was just out of college and like the Missing Years, still sounds fresh today. That band was stellar and there’s at least another recording on UA-cam from this era, but in more of an expanded format - an entire concert, no video but good sound quality, tremendous performance.
Thank you John Prine, you are much missed.
It don't get no better! I never tire of listening to old John...
So this is where John Mellencamp got it his sound! ;>)
Great musician!!! Love me some John !!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 RIP BROTHER😇😇😇😎😎😎💕💕💕
when I was younger I didn't get then I would listen more then I got it he was great the band was tight
Covid took two of my Mt. Rushmore musicians in John Prine and Toots Hibbert. I saw this tour in Spokane in 1996, just vintage John Prine. Heather Eatman opened, what a show.
Both are missed so much
Great sounds
Thanks for the music John

Incredible Fantastic video at about his peak!
AMEN. Sing it brother
😁
The best band he ever toured with. Saw him at the Beacon Theatre on this tour
The way I like to remember him
Every darn thing
seems sorta dimmed
Since the postman left the scene of the crime. Draws as sigh, Sheds a tear ~ So good -seeing this ~
Guess part of the charm now? Really is that it hurts a bit 🗿🧙🏻♂️(~}*=£
A excellent song writer / singer 👍
Great song and love that Telecaster.
I remember when this aired on Austin City Limits and I always wanted to see it again. Thanks for sharing!
This was a great concert !
Larry Crane on lead guitar. John Mellencamps” guitarist 76-91 who laid down all those famous guitar riffs you know by heart
Prine in his prime
Love it!!
This is great 👌
love this thanks
What a band!
Ed Gaus on drums & percussion. John Prine’s favorite drummer and far underrated. Now teaches in Indianapolis.
☮️
Pretty good, not bad, I can't complain !
Cuz actually all them Prime songs are about the same
God, I miss John and his dry humor and laid back personality (not to mention his songwriting & vocals). As much as I like Prine playing acoustic & solo, it's good to hear him with backing musicians occasionally. There's a great vid on YT with John playing an episode on the old PBS series "Sessions on W. 54th St.". John had an awesome electric guitarist and a stand-up bass playing with him. Iris Demint even makes an appearance for a few of their duets also! Not to be missed!! ua-cam.com/video/NWOoiMtevdY/v-deo.html
The lead guitar was played by Jason Wilbur, he played with John for something like 24 years. David Jacques, his long-time bass player was on the stand-up bass.
An American original... like Steve Earle!
Thank God he lives on in the tracks
Song writer for sure❤
There is Larry Crane with John. Cant go wrong there.
Is this the best sounding band ever or is it just me that thinks that ?
David Jacques on bass played with John for a long time.
Which means we can all get along.
Yes
Didn't expect to see young Gavin Newsome rocking the Fender Strat
Peaceful waters!
15:08 We Are The Lonely . . . Glorious!
20:57 Lake Marie . . . With all the sausages and ssssharp objects!
I do not know the meaning of life, but I'm pretty sure it's written in a John Prine song
I thought I knew john prine till this song
A factual correction. Nobody steals soul.
I can't believe that the musicians are not listed. They always used to do so. Or am I just not seeing the members of the band listed?
It's in the last 5 seconds...might have to hit pause...
John Prine, Vocals, Guitar; David Steele, Lead guitar, Mandolin; Phil Parlapiano, Keyboards, Vocals, Mandolin, Accordion; David Jaques, Bass; Ed Gaus, Drums; Larry Crane, Guitar, Harmonica & Vocals.
hope again. that some of this will be handed down to some or maybe many,,,
at the very top of his game...who is the in that band?...these guys are all awesome.
Shooooot!
😅 4:18
Put it on, and leave it alone. Don’t rewind to listen to a good lick or riff. Now, does John stutter on ssss’s, or is it intentionally on Lake Marie,
I was around in 1968 living in polo
