- One of the stars of the Singapore Airshow flying display is the two-seater twin-engine Sukhoi Su-30MKM, which is a variant of the Russian-built Su-30 multirole fighter built specifically for the the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
The thrust vectoring capability of this aircraft allows it to perform incredible aerobatics, including the famous ‘Cobra’ maneuver. Thrust vectoring involves controlling the alignment of the engine nozzles to direct thrust up or down as a means of controlling the attitude or angular velocity of the aircraft. This allows for maneuverability that isn’t possible by relying on the aerodynamic control surfaces alone.
The Su-30 has a fuselage of almost 72’ in length, with a wingspan of about 48’ and stands a height of 21’. Powered by AL 31fp twin engines, providing a thrust of 55,000lbs with full afterburner, enabling the aircraft to reach a top speed of Mach 2. - Авто та транспорт
As a USAF veteran I wanted to say. Awesome Russian plane and so was the Royal Malaysian Air Force pilot that showed very impressive control of it. Very impressive flying.

Agreed! A true natural, tell-tale sign is how smoothly he straightened out his wings when recovering from the victory roll, it almost looks like the air sweeping over the wings did it, rather than the pilot.
Could not look away for a single moment. Far beyond amazing. Screaming in delight and pure thrill (vicarious, but pure).

This Malaysian Sukhoi only has a Su30 airframe and engines. The rest of the plane are replaced with French and South African technology. This Russian plane is capable of dropping even JDAMs and other smart munitions of Western origin. The same probably is true for the Indian Sukhois.

@@khansahabs007 Gonky has a video of himself flying an RMAF F-18 against an RMAF Su-30MKM. It's one of the few forces that flies US, European and Russian aircraft with NATO electronics. Anyway in the second engagement, the Flanker uses thrust vectoring to reverse direction and engage him head-on, so it definitely has combat applications.

I love the SU30. It's such a beautiful aircraft, big and bulky but so graceful. She looks like a bird that would bring you home even with major damage. Absolutely love what the Russians create when it comes to fighter aircraft, easily some of the most beautiful and capable combat aircraft in the world. Much love from the USA.

Love how the flares ejected during the cobra manouver perfectly show the vortices in action as they spin around madly.
Fabulous aircraft and pilot. The sustained cobra is incredible as well as the zero-thrust induced stall and recovery.

Of course the aircraft is a spectacular engineering feat, but I'm more impressed by the incredibly high demands that some of these maneuvers placed on the aircrew. A gun without bullets is just a lump of metal. This aircraft without such skilled and physically fit pilots is just a very expensive way of turning jet fuel into heat and noise. Incredible display, respect from Australia.

I've seen a good number of FA-18 Super Hornet displays.
I occasionally work on an Australian air base and frequently see the practice runs for air shows.

Oooch! The Gs! The Gs!!! When I was younger I loved military aircraft, and although I was a good American boi through and through those SU-30s and SU-34s were secretely my favorite. Whenever I played those Ace Combat or other fighter jet games I would always pick them. Those canards forward of the wings just look so awesome.
I've never seen these beauties in person but as a kid I was fortunate enough to attend a few air shows at Nellis Air Force base. F15s and F18s and the famous Thunderbirds especially. If you've never seen a modern fighter jet peforming manuevers you just cannot imagine the speed, deafening noise and raw power you can feel at ground level from a mile away and however many thousands of feet up. Truly humbling and you will forever think the people who fly these must be the coolest people on the planet.
The amount of G force a pilot of this caliber handles...just amazing!

This is hugely impressive & something I think most people can’t comprehend. The load on those wings when falling in a spiral is ENORMOUS!
You get up to 70mph plus & put your flat hand against the wind. Now try it with a sheet of metal with the area of those wings- and that’s only at 70mph.

Malaysian Pilots are awesome...they need some new hardware to exploit their capability. Btw the SU30MKM is one beautiful machine.
I think the MKI is better in terms of payload, but I'm suprised by Malaysia by getting the MKM and not something else like F-15s or F-18s.

6:33 to 7:10 is absolutely incredible to me. That roll into the "stand" was incredibly elegant, and then the stand just seems to defy physics. It's incredible how the aircraft is able to lean into the air with the lift provided by it's huge underside while travelling at such low air speeds while the thrust of the engines maintain the altitude and give that slow creep forward
makes you wonder what those machines can do as they always show less than combat full preformace on those displays!!
