I think this song is ingrained in our cultural DNA - you may have never heard it but it's still familiar when you do. This song is pure "Cool". Carry On!!
This song was very popular when it came out. Not a lot of marketing at first; word of mouth; "hey, you must listen to this new album...". That elegant beauty you speak of caught a lot of attention, family to family, party to party(back when party was not a verb). Some people liked singing it at home, trying to reproduce that gentle romantic feeling. Glad you could notice and feel it. Thanks.
Bossa Nova is a kind of jazzy samba. Composer Jobim was introduced to american audiences by the great Frank Sinatra! He made a duet version of this song with Mr. Jobim himself 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
She was Brazilian and couldn't speak English and had a very short time to learn the words for this perfomance. I heard it when I was 8 yrs old and never forgot it. Great song Frank Sinatra covered it
While you're in the Brazilian mood, please react to another Brazilian artist. Give us your opinion on Slow Hot Wind by Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66. Although Mendes is Brazilian, the lead singer is American, Lani Hall. Lani is married to musician and president of A&M records, Herb Alpert.
I love love this song!!!!! French musicians DONT!!!! I wanted to react to your Schindlers List music ( I watch on tv so need phone to react) I can’t find it. Your reaction was one of the most beautiful empathetic reactions. It’s poignant to me because my family in Channel Islands were occupied. I lost my grandparents early due to malnutrition from the war. May 9th our day of liberation still plays an integral part of our history. Thank you. In my opinion Schindlers List is the best movie score ever. Sorry to do it on wrong reaction but I love Astrud Gilberto ( sorry about spelling it’s 3.00 am!). You are so interesting- especially about your house 🐾😺💕🐾😺💕
If you like this I highly recommend Águas de Março by Elis Regina & Antonio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobin). There’s a 1974 video of them on UA-cam in orange and green sweaters that’s very fun (the one with 16M views).
A brilliant song. IIRC the album won Jazz album of the year for the year it was released. If you get a chance, listen to the original. It is better but I think you get a good idea from this video.
If you'll allow me to be more precise, the album won the Grammy for "Best Album", "Best Jazz Instrumental Album", and "Best Engineered Recording - Non-Classical". And this song won for "Record of The Year". So they got two of the biggies: Best Album and Record Of The Year.

Carry On!!
This is the most recorded and covered song in history. This was the debut, the original. The definition of classic. Perfection is correct.
This is when music was nice and people could sing and dress beautifully
Isn´t it georgeous!

Understated.
It's an excellent word for both she and Stan G. They not only make it sound good, but they make it sound good with little obvious effort.
Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
class song
This is the number one most covered song.

Here's the legendary musician Bob Strauch's version with his own lyrics: ua-cam.com/video/IDxLedytMm0/v-deo.html
