@@jessegm1 You sound triggered. "Since" is a preposition used when describing a past event. In this case, it was 4 years ago SINCE I last SLI'd. "Perform well" is subjective. I wouldn't like gaming on any 700 series card. I'd be limited with my 3b of VRAM and have to turn down new games to potato mode to try to avoid the wall. And I just googled what "most people" we're using on Steam, and it's the 1060. And when it comes to DX 12 cards being used on Steam, that even included the 600 series, 47% use 10 series cards with only 38 percent using 600, 700, and 900 series cards, combined. The rest are AMD and intel cards / APUs.

well 4K@60+Hz AAA gaming is currently pointless unless you have a 1080ti/titan card. but common online games like COD,overwatch,WOW and fortnight aren't very demanding and will play just fine for 1080p@60Hz gaming on somthing like a 750ti. that said the 900 series is the lowest I'd go since they are the 1st gen with HDMI 2.0. even if your not gaming at 4k it's nice to have the extra desktop space.

dual gpus almost always scale really well in synthetics but end up never scaling that well in actual games. and it just seems frame time stuff is some limitation of dual gpus as nvidia sli has issues with stutter in many games even tho sli support is bigger its still meh alot of times. Power supply is also a major consideration if you want to add a second GPU to your rig. You must have not only sufficient total power/wattage output, but you also need to make sure that you have sufficient power on the 12v rail for the power connectors to the cards to sustain them properly. You can have proper space and cooling in your case and a motherboard/platform that fully supports Crossfire and/or SLI, but if your PSU isn't up to the task, then it's a no-go scenario.

    • @howtogitgud
      @howtogitgud 5 років тому

It will , Crossfire and SLi will be go away . Since it hard to optimize , even some developer won't do jackshit about dual card optimization. They just implementing it and boom done and don't care about the optimization part .
Since Vulkan and DX12 getting popular (and yet some developer just implementing on first release without optimizing it until the next patch) , dual card is dead on both mentioned API since it hard to implement dual card support on Vulkan and DX12 .
Best thing is to buy better single graphics card like RX Vega 56/64 or RTX 2070/2080 . Avoid dual or more card setup at all cost . Unless you are PC enthusiastic then go ahead .

I took the plunge and got myself another RX580 as I have always wanted to try crossfire but procrastinated with it because of all of these bad reviews on it. That and it wasn't too cheap. When an opportunity to pick up another rx580 for NZ$120 landed on my lap I took it. To say the least. I am very happy, shockingly happy. Currently running GTA V @ 1440p, max settings except for MSAA only on 4x. Vsync off I get around 80FPS. Vsync on and it's stuck at 60FPS but it's smooth as butter which is enough for me. No jittering or any of the other nonsense that I have read or watched about crossfire. So yeah, quite happy. I am yet to try out many other titles but so far I am pleased. If anyone is interested my machine specs are i7-5820k @ 4.0GHZ, MSI X99A Godlike Gaming, 16GB DDR4, Gigabyte Gaming rx580 8GB, Powercolor RX580 OC 8GB. Superposition score 1080p extreme single Rx580 is 2501(this is a typical score of the rx580), on dual GPU its 4943 with frame pacing enabled. Of course, this is not as good as a 1080ti but comparing the unigine benchmarks it's on a similar scale as the gtx 1080.

I had dual 6950s back in the day, and when Crossfire was good, it was *reeeal* good, but I wound up turning the second GPU off a lot of the time simply due to compatibility issues. More games back then supported multi-GPU, too, so it's only gotten worse. Multi-GPU won't be a thing until some kind of solid middleware exists to leverage it on things like UE4, but the audience for it is so small, I reckon devs won't bother with it. A real shame, since, again, when it's well-implemented, it's *awesome.*

Good video. Just one point though. You played the games maxed out, I do not think that a single 580 could show those frames. There is the downside of heat and power draw yes but you get the max of the games that support it. Can you make a follow-up video with the single card performance showed side-by-side with CrossFire using the same video settings?

Why is this so powerful? And why it's not on a single die, if it is so powerful? Of course it will throw low digits frame time bicause of the latency between the two gpus.
    This really puzzle me...

Guy's the problem with the I5 is that it's still more then likely gonna Bottleneck as i5's have a hard time distributing workloads since Intel Basically gimps how many PCIE Lanes in some cases( possible idea for 0-1 fps at time's), would you be able to rerun the tests with like an R5/R7 1600-2700x. Honestly it's out of curiosity to see the difference in pcie lane availability between mid-range options

Unfortunately the 8700k would have been a better chip to use. Most games are coded to run optimally on 8 or more threads. Even though the multi core score of the 6c/6t i5 is around the same as an 8700k, the 9600k runs into frame time issues.

Doesn't matter if its all AMD (although he used a CPU with only 16 PCIe lanes, and a single m.2 SSD will wreck performance to x4 on the second GPU, with best case scenario is a bad x8 x8). Ryzen won't behave as poor. Vegas only uses 1 GPU as far as I know. I tried checking on my quad R9 Fury with TR setup, but the OS its licensed to is toast (I blue screened about 5 times, 3 times before I even got Vegas open), so I tried, but Windows isn't having it, LOL! I'll try to test in a couple weeks, just reply to this comment, or any video on this channel:
      ua-cam.com/channels/Zp2Om_w_o0ry_FQhAUp-CA.html
I know, my channel has the worst videos, so its ironic I have Vegas Pro. My previous vids were mostly done with a phone barely good enough for BigFoot sightings and without editing. I'm trying to get my first decent video out, but I've had so little time that I'm not even done with my Halloween PC build, and Halloween was weeks ago! Haha, I'm slower than a turtle when it comes to posting vidoes, but I can reply to a comment! I'll get an email if you post to that channel (its a lot more reliable than regular comment notification), and this is something I really want to test anyways. I'll reinstall Windows and all programs over Thanksgiving break and test then.

MSI gaming M5 z170A board, but gaming 8g 390s are thick AF, even with my roomy phanteks enthoo case, the top card always pegged in the 90s and throttled. It was such a huge pain trying to find xfire profiles that worked and then there was texture popping and sometimes worse performance. Pubg was amazing though, ultra settings and getting 120+ fps.

you should try the crossfire setup on a threadripper combo with some 4000mhz ddr4. crossfire technology likes pcie bandwidth and the 580s may? be soaking up all of the x8 connection thus the reason for you issues. not saying this as fact just a thought. however a comparison would be nice if you got the time.

The frametime thing, I would imagine is what you need a high speed link for.. like the way NVidia does it.. But I wonder how PCIe4 will affect this. Might get a nice improvement with the new standard, but power draw is something that should have been discussed. Even with Pascal, it's not worth using two GPUs. Better to sell your card and just upgrade, than adding another card.

I had a Titan Xp, and it was junk compared to 2x Fury. Since 4x Fury costs the same as 1x Titan used... Yeah, now I've got 4x Fury. I get about 85-110 fps in Crysis 3 at 4k Ultra compared to a very bad experience of 45-50 fps on the Titan Xp (same cost). Duel Fury even had better frame times (RX 4/5 series don't do nearly as well, I've tested 2x RX 470 and they do stutter very bad! The Fury series, maybe HBM or something, do exceptional and hold a very tight and consistent fps output).

I used to run 2x Sapphire Fury SR+ in Crossfire. I was able to scale most games really well with AFR on those cards. But with nVidia having really powerful single GPU solutions, programmers really haven't found the incentive to include optimizations. I have a slightly cut down RX 580 in my laptop, and its still a good card for any game out there today in 1440P

I remember when I tried Crossfire on two ATI/AMD 4890 to boost FarCry. The top FPS were boosted but I didn't need that I needed more FPS in the cellar..... the lowest FPS got better BUT the frametime was so horrible that it was unplayable in crucial areas of the game. Maybe upcoming DX12 titles will fix that, so that even random GFX cards can be mixed but I think that is never going to happen, even if it was technically possible to do - it would cripple the sales of new GFX cards.
