There is a reason that this is the number one video that comes up when searching this topic. It doesn't get any easier (or better explained) than this video. Top notch!
This actually helped e more than I'd like to admit. I had to fix the inner lining of a sleeve (how it managed to rip 11 INCHES is still a mystery). Thanks!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I honestly have no idea how to sew (although I've wanted to learn) and this helped a LOT In helping me mend a torn jacket that I accidentally machine washed :,)
Thank you, I bought a nice coat similar to this and it fit great! Two weeks later the inside ripped and then the next day the wrist seem split opened. I couldn't exchange it because they were out of stock and were not ordering more.
@@Marita_Moods well its a woven fabric so it depends, if you're washing it a lot, yes it will fray back out with ladder stitch alone (if it was a knit fabric, ladder stitch alone would be fine), with a woven fabric like that, you can either sew each side first with a zigzag stitch to prevent it from fraying then close it up with the ladder stitch, or you can use a fabric glue like 'fray check' on each side then do the ladder stitch. If the rip is at a weak point (like shoulder or underarm), I would definitely reinforce it with a zigzag on each side before doing the ladder. In the video you just zigzagged it together which is find for the inside because no one is going to see it anyway and it's easier for any beginners watching. So its a great tutorial but if it's on the outside and you want something more "invisible", ladder stitch is the way to go 😊
@@saoirse_mavourneen Ah, gotcha 👍🏻. So far, our family has had no issues with tearing on the outer part of any garments. But I will definitely keep this in mind should an exterior tear happen 👍🏻🤗👍🏻
I never learned how to sew, and I try and try and nothing ever comes out right. I bought a winter coat for my son for Xmas last year and it already has a tear in the lining. It's so thin I'm afraid I'm going to tear it even more when I try to fix it, but I'm going to try this anyway and see how it goes, I'll let you know.
Hi, the lining of my winter coat is badly frayed in 2 areas, unfortunately didn't realize when purchased. I don't think sewing is going to work. I have fabric glue and seam binding, would that work?
+Kerrie McBride I haven't tried that but I think that is a GREAT idea! Give it a shot and let me know how that works. I imagine that it will be just fine since, with the seam binding, it will prevent the lining from getting too tight.
If I understood correctly, it frayed? I would try the fray check first, maybe, before sewing it. Or maybe use a fabric glue or iron-on fabric tape on the edges before sewing it 🤔
Three?!😳. It depends on how big the whole is 🤔. And please do something about your dryer because it sounds like it will ruin more than just your jacket 😣
How would I do this differently if the tear was on the outside of the jacket? I have a tear that's on the shoulder on the outside, so it's very visible when the jacket is put on.
Would you mind sharing a few clips or snapshots of the jacket? I have to see where and how the tear is and what kind of material it is. That way I can tell if we can save it. You can send it through message if you'd like. But please, as a reminder I am not a pro. I just try to find ways that work :/
I kinda miss the days when all UA-cam videos were like this one 🙏🏾
Yes I feel the same way 🥺

Thank you so kindly 😃 🙇🏻♀️
Thanks , I already knew how to sew but was confirming how to do the inner lining like that, repairing a friend's coat for him!
I'm here for the exact same reason!!
Thank you very much, my leather vest is in need of repair and I couldn’t find anything else on mending outer linings, very helpful!
Glad you found this video helpful 😄. Thank you so much 🙏🏻

Yeah they need to come up with a better material for coat linings 🤷🏻♀️
Even though, there was no audio, I could still see what you were doing. I need to fix my windbreaker. This helps.
😳No audio? Uh oh, I’ll have to check what happened.

+Seymore Butts Oh YAY!👏🏻. I'm glad this was able to help you! 😄. Thank you for watching and for appreciating 😊😌
Thanks you
Thanks for the video, this will be my first attempt to sew. My welding jacket is in need of repair.
So welcome 😃Pls let us know how it turned out 😃

Thank you very much. I am about to sew a tear in my jacket very similar to what you just showed and this is going to be so helpful to me. Awesome.
You’re welcome and thank you too 🙏🏻
This video is old but if you do see this comment, this video was so helpful so thank you :)
Welcome 😄. I’m so happy it was helpful 😄
i knew this was gonna be good when it said 9 years ago😂❤
Thank you! I fixed my jacket thanks a lot for this
😆👍🏻I’m glad this video helped . Thank you for letting me know 😄🙏🏻
Nice! You can check out another method called the ladder stitch if you want to get the thread invisible, but nonetheless this gets the job done
😳Won’t that loosen or remove the seams?
@@Marita_Moods No, if done properly it looks like the original seam. (If that's where the hole is) You can't even tell it was stitched
I will try that 👍🏻😄thanks

I hope it works out well for your son’s coat. Yes, please let me know how it went.
Thank you so much for sharing this on here!!
Glad if this was able to help a little 👍🏻
Thank you I messed up on the folding a bit but that was my fault anyway This helped so much thanks
Glad this video helped😅

same happened with my trench and I'm unable to stitch that , the thread always came out and also side fabric get tear too, how I can I fix that

Thank you. I have a lining to fix.
You’re welcome! Hope it works out well for you too 👍🏻
I have a tear that's on the inside on the shoulder area.
its a small tear on my varsity bomber jacket.
I have a polyester puffer jacket from Gap that has 3 burnt holes in the right arm from my clothes dryer. How can I fix it, if possible?
You have more of a problem with your dryer. The high-temperature limit switch may be bad.
Three?!😳. It depends on how big the whole is 🤔. And please do something about your dryer because it sounds like it will ruin more than just your jacket 😣
Can I still put my coat in the washing machine after
We did, and so far it’s doing well. But then again, we have a lot of coats we use interchangeably.
thanks man i got the picture. that is easy.

Just do one pass using a invisible stitch
You could cut the inside, tape the tear from the inside , then stitch up the lining .
i tried sew my jacket but i actually tore my jacket even more ..
+Fenntastic123 oommen Oh no!😱 Did you want to send me a picture of the results so maybe I can see what happened? Maybe we can still salvage it.
The inside of my purse.... Hope this works!! Waaa
How did it turn out?😃
Super chill
thank you very much soooo much thank you
You’re welcome 😉
I cant seee cause its black...
Are you filming this at night with a flashlight?🤷♀️
Ya 😬
I just accidentally cut a hole in mine with scissors.. ugg
😖😳
Ohhh so that's how u sewww
It depends💁🏻♀️. For the inner lining this way is what I found to be most helpful.
You skipped the whole part on getting the thread on the needle..
😳
