I've used this product before. Used it fixed my wallet recently. The patch has been on for well over 6 months and it's still holding on. I have also made other repairs in the past with this stuff it just works.
Instead of stencilling on the patch side... why don't you mark the backing? Then you don't need to worry about inside outside the line/leaving marker on the patch.
Thanks for the video. Yes circles are the best way or at least rounded corners for those patches that are longer. They stay on better and blend in. Straight lines rarely blend in well. Another tip: dry cleaners will refill your down items. So if you do lose too many feathers check to see if your local dry cleaner will refill it.
I've been trying to fix my (down?) Jacket that has a hole in it from my dog jumping on me excitedly and tearing it. I've been really nervous to repair my jacket because I wasn't sure how to. I do have that tenacious tape. Now that I've seen this video I feel very comfortable repairing my jacket! Love your videos. Loved your stories on this video, thanks!
We wear those style of jackets in the UK as well, so that tip is useful this side of the "pond" as well. Listening to the stories are great and I love watching the Homestead videos, you're a very interesting guy Cody. One thing I do have to say though is that I'm missing the Amazon style reviews, you bring a huge amount of humour to these and in fact it was one of these that first got me onto your channel! I love it when you test something to destruction and then take the mickey out of it, its something you are very good at. Please consider putting more of them back into your channel, even if its only 1 every month or couple of months.
This is why I love this channel, I knew about the tape and not to touch it but the trick with the socket was great. Absolutely genius sir. Thank you. I never even thought to use a socket.
Thank you so much for this video. I have this exact jacket and I love Patagonia, it broke my heart when I noticed a small rip on my jacket last year. Good thing I have not gotten rid of it, now I can repair it and use it for more years to come.
Cody, your grandpa reminds me of my dad....same generation. Definitely the 'Greatest'!! I'm the youngest of 7 siblings. My father, a WWII US Army Air Corp combat vet in the South Pacific campaign, was also a man of few words and high principles.
Thank you so much for your great explanation on how to repair a down jacket. You are so right about judging others without proper awareness. Unfortunately, many are not aware of the organ harvesting industry in China.
I used to camp in one of those old green Army tents. MY dad said whatever you do, don't touch the inside of the tent when it's raining it'll drip where you touch the tent. Brings back memories.
@@ethanelectric1024 those old Army tents were made of cotton duck material. VERY sturdy and "waterproof". I was told that when you rub on the inside of them when wet, the material collapses on itself and allows water to pass thru. Never really understood that but they leaked wherever you touch them somehow.
Mr. Wranglerstar, I recently discovered your channel. I find it to be very interesting, informative, and inspiring. Perhaps you could do a video about the importance of community when it comes to homesteading, the differences between being totally remote vs closer to other homesteaders/off-gridders, and what to look for when looking for a place to start a homestead with regards to the people/community you want to surround yourself with
Thanks for the tip! Just repaired my patagonia nano puff this evening with Tenacious Tape and color is almost exact. Socket teave method worked perfect! 💪
I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I have absolutely no need to repair a down jacket. But I watch wranglerstar’s videos like this anyway because there’s always a great trick or tip, a great story or both. This one didn’t disappoint.
Ya'll aren't the only ones that use down jackets. I live in Texas and i use one. Well, okay it is a vest, but it is a down vest. Enjoyed the video as usual. Thanks.
Cody, thanks for this video, I own an older Down jacket that has so many holes U be might think I use as a strainer, instead of an around the home front or out in public. Now finally I won't have to I change my jacket. Take care Thanks again
Thanks for the great video as always! Patagonia gets a bad rap for being overpriced but it's definitely high quality! I didn't own anything Patagonia until my sister got a job there and bought me a discounted jacket!
Just wanna give you a quick "thank you", for both the quality info AND for your PSA to inform folks not to waste their priceless energy attempting to 'inform' you about Patagonia's 'unethical' practices. Like, getta grip, people! Yes, I agree, it matters. But you know what matters even more!? Honing in on & putting into practice your critical thinking skills. Your quality of life, and everybody else's, depends on it. 😉❤️
They will still fix it, so they say if you send it in. But most the time they will just give your a voucher for 2/3 the cost of a new Patagonia without an option to get the old one back. Sorry but I'll keep my old jacket since they aren't making it as good as they did a few years ago
@@Mrkouman never been my experience… they have been able repair a few heavily damaged items from a fire we had, and ALWAYS had the option to have my old items returned, at no cost.
TIP: draw the circle on the white side of the tape and cut from that side.. seems like an easier more precise cut and way easier to see .. i tried the way you described, then turned over and drew circle on white side of tape and so much cleaner
This is a goddamn pro tip! I have a burn hole in mine that I fixed by pushing electrical tape inside. I've been washing my jacket by hand for about a year. This seems MUCH easier
Those down jackets with the thin material were originally supposed to be used as a liner with a hard shell jacket over top, since the material is so vulnerable to damage. Somewhere along the line, it became a fad to wear them as the outer jacket.
You should consider using a tweezers or small medical clamp instead of a pick to separate the backing from the tape. Also, make sure to overlap the tear by maybe a centimeter, and if it's a long tear, just use the socket to round the corners of the rectangle. I have those silver markers all over the house and garage! Finally, at 9:50, you do not "get up" to hunt at dusk. At that time it's dawn.
If you put the tape inside the hole you won't see the patch at all. That way you can also use any color tape since it's under the repair. Takes more precision to close the rip exactly right but looks much better unless you can get tape that exactly matches your jacket.
thank you good tip . sure admire your dexterity . great story about your grandad . god bless him. you sure make him proud . i think when i mess up my dad he would bee 119 . and grand saying hes 82 as still has not learned . have a superweekend
suggestion; instead of cutting a complete circle, veer off a bit to make a tab to hold while you peel and apply, then cut the tab off while still holding onto it.
Mid-West Illinois up to northern Wisconsin and Michigan a lot of people wear jackets like that. Light weight and efficient. Also... Patagonia tries to be an industry leader for environmental and sustainable technology when it comes to outdoor wear clothing.
I have a lightweight rain coat that I ripped the other day something caught on the pocket part of it so I don't know if this will work with that or not I'm going to give it a look though. Thanks.

I used to have a down jacket. The warmest thing I've ever owned. It had a cloth-type shell, though. I gave it away years ago. It wouldn't fit anymore. Must've shrunk.

It's a Rolex Explorer.
Did you wash your jacket before patching? I have a very worn down jacket that needs a wash and patch - wondering which to do first
You should do a review on trauma shears that are great in the shop something stupid like expensive vs cheap
I bought my Ghost Wisper Mountain Hardware for $12 at the thrift store, it is a red color but it was worth the discount. Oh, it was brand new.
