    • @thebonniewong

      Charlotte Young hi, so 1st you sew your sleeves on your jacket lining . 2nd sew your lining to the jacket at facing 3rd sew the openings of the sleeves together .... maybe watch it a few more times.

    • @tonir.2486
      @tonir.2486 8 місяців тому

      So much is missing. It's a fair basics video but more is needed to fully understand the sleeves and cuff and flip . Seems like this would be the last step . Something is missing and that is confusing to beginners. I know what's being done and you know what's being done but more information is needed for those who aren't full time or experienced seamstresses.id definitely pull it through and hand stitch. It's the proper way to do it . Personally I dont care for short cuts but I guess if your working with time limitations it would definitely make it all faster . It looks passable now that it's done but to me it wouldnt be as personally satisfying as doing it correctly and taking the time to stitch by hand around cuffs and body bottom.

    I finished my pants and I'm making a jacket now. There are pleats in the center back seam of the lining but I don't quite know how to interpret the pattern. I was hoping you would show that. Thank you, Anastasia, for such a marvelous tutorial! Clearly, due to time constraints, it's not possible for you to cover absolutely every issue which might arise, such as showing different approaches to connecting the sleeve lining. I'm going to be trying to replace the lining on a vintage Harris Tweed blazer, and I think I'm inclined to turn the sleeve completely inside-out, with the lining wrong-side to the sleeve wrong-side, and then sew the lining to the sleeve at that point. But you are empowering us to believe we can accomplish this, which is sometimes more than half of the battle. And thanks for mentioning that you offer sewing lessons. Best wishes!

    Hi, I am looking up another way to attach a coat lining because the sewing pattern I'm using recommends attaching it with a catch stitch. I don't like the way it looks because it's drooping a bit at the neck facing. The reason this is happening is because I lined my coat in wool tartan fabric and added interlining to the back lining piece for extra warmth. The back piece is a bit heavier than regular lining. Do you have any suggestions? I thought about using a pick stitch or a running stitch or maybe machine stitching but, I'm not sure. I pick stitched the collar, patch pockets and the inside edge of the front facing. This is a vintage sewing pattern with lots of hand sewing involved, so far. I don't mind hand sewing though.

      J Stevenson love ok for something that is durable. You also want something that is smooth like a satin and not like a flannel. This way your arm slides nicely into the sleeves or at least put a smooth fabric in the arms. Depending on the luxury of your jacket silk charmuse would be to die for.

    It’s so much faster to use the rotary cutter to rip out stitches after you get the first few loose. Lay the cutter, flat side, down on the fashion fabric. Draw the lining up over the cutter blade to expose the lining to the blade. Voila. Zip zip.

    • @SewAnastasia

      E Johnson that sounds scary but I’ll try

    • @ejohnson1914
      @ejohnson1914 5 років тому

      I saw this done on a quilting show. It’s quite easy. Just need to be sure to position the blade so that only the stitches come in contact with the blade. You never go back to seam ripping the old way. However you need to use the seam ripper to open the seam enough to insert the cutter between the layers.

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  5 років тому +1

      E Johnson in manufacturing we use a razor blade. It sounds like the same concept. I’m sure it’s where it’s from . A rotary blade is basically a huge razor blade. Please aim your seamripper away from your hand. A little slip can cause a really nasty puncture wound between your thumb and first finger. If you are doing something because of ease in filming it, please let your viewers know the correct safe way to use a seam ripper. Always aim the point away from your hand holding the fabric.
