95% of Netflix shows/movies are either bad, overrated or mediocre, but this might be the best Netflix show I've seen on their streaming service. It was an emotional rollercoaster throughout that I could not stop watching. Great review and fantastic show!

I live in England, the pub was doing illegal lock ins where they keep trading into the early morning when they're legally supposed to be shut, this is why his employers didn't want him to report the attack. I worked hospitality for years and I don't remember police ever being called when threats and assaults happened.

I truly loved this show. Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning were incredible. Baby Reindeer is so complex in its treatment of such themes as mental health, sexual abuse, loneliness, self esteem, sexuality, emotional co-dependency and the supression or confrontation of several traumas.

This was such a good show! I was a bit traumatized from episode 4 that was intense. The real Marta came out and did an interview with Pierce Morgan last night and you can tell from her behavior it's really her. It was fascinating to see the real character in the flesh and the fact the actress that played her never met her and had all her craziness down just based on the writing, she deserves the Emmy!

Yay thank you guys for doing this and giving us your thoughts! 🙂This had to be one of the best Netflix shows in a while across all genres. No 35-episode, 80-hour nonsense here lol This show came in, made me laugh, made me cry, horrified me, made me think and then left before it wore out its welcome, with a whole bunch of feelings and thoughts. and reflections on my own questionable life choices. 👏 Great review!

I had to give a trigger warning ⚠️ for this series to my sister, because her bf was SA’ed as a kid (& is still dealing with the fallout from that). I don’t think he could handle the left turn the series took. My sister watched it without him, & said she enjoyed it, as did I.

It might still benefit him to watch it. I did not get a warning I watched it last night with my friend it was triggering bc it was the most raw and authentic representation of SA I’ve ever seen, but bc of that it was cathartic in a way bc you can see yourself in him. I learned so much about myself from watching it and seeing how he begins to heal Is nice too.

Wonderful review! And YES so many of the things he did made me wince - especially following her home (and who really has their email notification sounds on?) and setting her up.
Some of the things he did, like the excuse for not wanting to get involved, I kinda get. As a straight woman, we sometimes have to be careful how we let men down for fear of consequences. Donny had been hurt so badly and he also had such self-loathing that he couldn't risk turning off the stream of admiration, as twisted as it was.
I also understand Teri not responding like a therapist. It's always harder to take your own advice when you're emotionally invested.
I loved Donny's dad! That scene on the train 😂😂😂

I think we get so frustrated with Donny because he seems to lack courage throughout but he (the real guy) did the most courageous thing of all in the end by bringing this to the public. Also, brought up a subject not much discussed as it pertains to men. I grew up in the age of Menudo and the Coreys after all.

2:58 Well, marta did actually SA him earlier in the series when she groped him without his consent. But off this show was really good but super triggering. I’ve been SAd and stalked before and like the show, there really is no justice. It takes so much for the police to actually do something. Pretty infuriating. I love that you guys reviewed this. Keep up the good work. 31:35 I think this last part was about him not hating himself as bad because he did a kind act for her and it turned out the way it did. Like giving her a free tea didn’t warrant her to do any of that. I hope that made him hate himself a little less.

The drug scene with the little 'parachutes', probably some form of ecstacy in a rolling paper/piece of toilet paper/paper towel and then twisted at the top and swallowed. There would always be some weirdo at parties trying to make everyone parachutes. Supposedly, it hits you faster but it just felt like eating toilet paper 😂

Loved your review! Like you Joseph, the ending scene with her on the witness stand was the most emotional for me. Also, there has been a fair bit of commentary from newspapers and magazines about how in this day and age of armchair detectives, it's easy to figure out who the real Martha and Darren were. Apparently, both Gadd and the woman that plays Martha have had to come out and tell people to stop harassing people and that they're missing the point of the series.

  • @KiwiGurl4Life

I know you're probably sick of talking about Baby Reindeer with each other since your opinions differ. But something else to consider...he did a live comedy show at Edinburgh Fringe fest based off Fiona. He even played her voicemails in his show and taped her messages on the walls. When asked by a reporter about his live show (before the TV show existed) and what he thinks Fiona feels about it, he commented that he hoped she was embarrassed by her behavior. So his comment about how they took care to change details about Fiona that even she would not recognize herself is false, based on his live show and his assumption that Fiona knew he was basing his show off her.

I stopped watching after episode 4. He was a grown man who made one bad decision after another, was sponging off his ex-girlfriend's mother, is a terrible comic, and brings this dangerous woman into the lives of other people. I could not stand this main character. I think he is a narcissist and liar. He kept going back to the man's house to do very hard drugs, and the man was getting more and more sexual with him, and then he claims that it was trauma? He kept going back and knew what was going go happen. IMO he wanted to get high and have sex but he could not admit it so he changed the narrative to him being assaulted. Again, he's a liar.

Binge watched the series. Reminds me of Dear Evan Hansen. I Googled Dear Evan Hansen and Baby Reindeer and saw a picture from Dear Evan, but the UA-cam title was Baby Reindeer. Strange.
Both films/series have main characters who are pathetic, lack empathy, and love attention. Also, they both are played by actors who are too old for the parts. Donny mentions being groomed by an older man and Martha being older, but, he looks about the same age. Donny looks ridiculous, struggling to come out to his parents, who seem understanding and don't look much older than him.
The scene where he breaks down and tells his story in front of the audience and the audience stays silent and does not respond and no one asks for him to leave the stage is unbelievable. I felt like he was so desperate for attention, that he was manipulating the audience, to try and get them on his side.
I thought it was going to be a dark comedy, but, it really didn't work as one. Being an empathetic person, I kept feeling sorry for the main character crying, being emaciated like Christian Bale in The Machinist, but, at some point I gave up.
The actress who portrayed Martha did a fantastic job. Her performance was way above the material. She alone made it watchable.

I think this its super important to show how alot of trauma victims actually react to trauma. People have a vision of the perfect victim. That theyre sad and learn from it and never make mistakes. But his reactions and the choices he makes are so accurate. I responded the same way with my own trauma. Was sexually abused as a child then became hypersexual then went on to a physically and emotionally abusive relationship. Then drinking all the time....people forget that humans are complex. Once you get used to living on that anxiety high, its so hard tonlive normally....normal feels wrong and "down". Once the chaos stops, the emotions and outcome of the abuse rise to the surface....its so much easier to stay on the high and take the abuse then to face whats happened to you.
Just the sad science and psychology behind it. Iykyk.
