    I don't think the whole drink scene at the end is supposed to show that he's turning into a stalker, I think it's him realizing that none of what happened to him was earned. Just because you reach out and show sympathy to someone, doesn't mean you invited them to be obsessed with you or find you as their only source of validation.

      That's because his identity is not yet "discovered" even if it was it'd be alleged unless Richard or that person confirms it. The difference is Fiona had been discovered and it was all alleged until she came on the show confirming she was the stalker Richard was talking about. Fiona does deserve hate tbh but not to the extent of death threats... Also she brought this upon herself by FIRST mentally assaulting, Richard and his loved ones for years. THEN by coming on the show. He is allowed to talk about his own trauma and he did not need to cover his stalkers identity not even one bit. This woman brought it upon herself by stalking him for years. PERIOD

      @@caro31099 we dont even know its the wrong person, Gadd would defend the guy till death anyway. Going back and allowing from what i can tell Gary Reich to continue his streak against other men is as evil. I have my doubts the rape scene happened how he made it out to be, he literally went for dicks after when he was a straight man. Now hes a gay man. Thats a bit weird to me.

      Hi stranger, I’m finishing my degree in clinical counseling and I wanted to share this with you and I hope it can help you in your healing ❤️ When we are in danger we fall into states of defense. Most people know fight flight and freeze, but there is also fawn. Fawn is a trauma response where the survivor attempts to appease the abuser for a subconscious sense of protection. Our brain says, “this threat has some sort of power over me so if I do what they want and please them it will keep me safe.” That could’ve been why you kept going back - your subconscious was trying to protect you. I know it’s difficult to grasp, but I want to reiterate it is NOT your fault. It was never your fault. Additionally from what you were saying you were so young. Children especially fall into fawn because they haven’t yet learned what is a person of authority who can keep them safe. With your family turning their back on you, I’m sure it didn’t feel like they were people who could take care of you so it made this abuser see you as a good target for manipulation. That was their actions, not yours. My heart breaks for you and I am so so sorry. I can’t even imagine the pain that you have felt. I’m so happy to hear you are starting to gain some compassion for yourself and enter a path of healing and at the same time that path is not linear and I’m sure you’ve had moments where you feel right back at square one with your healing. With that being said, I hope this information will be something you can think back on to remind you that this was not your fault. I also hope you never discredit your resilience and remember that while the healing process will not be linear, you have already come so far by recognizing what you mentioned in this comment. Remember to give yourself credit where it is due. Healing does not move backwards. I’m so sorry that your family isn’t in your corner, but there are so so many people who see you and will be in your corner. I hope you find your way to them and they find your way to you ❤️

    One of the things I loved about the show was that he didn't try to make himself look like a white knight. He was very open about the things he did wrong as well, he's not a complete victim. The ending to me is him understanding how Martha got to that place. He spent time trying to find meaning to her actions and I believe the ending was him getting that. As for the Piers Morgan interview...it was incredibly contradictory. She would deny then admit to some, say she didn't know where he lived but then admit to sending him a letter. It just showed how much of a liar she is and while it might not be exactly as the show says there seems to be some truth there. Plus she even mentioned she changed her last name which after searching her original name comes up with a stalking case she was involved in.

      She also has form--------A WOMAN who waged a campaign against Donald Dewar is now stalking MP's wife Laura Wray.
      Solicitor Mrs Wray has become the target of Fiona Muir, whom she sacked from a trainee post at her firm, McPhail Lawrence Partnership, in 1997.
      Since she was dismissed, she has contacted Mrs Wray's office with a series of threatening phone calls and even turned up at her house on one occasion.
      Mrs Wray, wife of Glasgow Baillieston MP Jimmy Wray and the mother of an 18-month-old son, was so worried by Muir's behaviour she issued her staff with panic alarms.
      She is now considering making an official complaint to police, after Muir renewed her campaign last week.
      It's also understood that Muir has developed a friendship with Mr Wray's ex-wife Catherine, with whom he fought a bitter divorce battle.

    UNPOPULAR OPINION about the ending part:
    I think he put the trial part to end the show. Let's be honest everyone or at least most viewers probably would like to see "the villain" facing actual consequences. Since the show is fiction I don't see any issues with him possibly altering the actual events that took place. Because, it not only gives the show a solid ending but also portrays Martha in the best light possible since she apologizes and shows regret. This is also another part of the show where he did not just made Martha the villain while he could've made her THE villain really easily.
    MY SECOND OPINION about the show is the "True story" part. Since in the final credits they said that the show is inspired by NOT the actual events but from Richard's play "Baby Reindeer", I don't really think there will be a lawsuit. But, even if it was directly inspired by real life events COME ON this is a Netflix series of course they are going to change certain parts. Also everyone complaining how it's not a 100% true and how much the Martha character looks and acts like real life Martha. PLEASEE 🙄 You can't agree with both of those it's not adding up.

    It was a nice show really, whatever everything in it was true or if bits and pieces were fictional still it feels like a raw retelling of someones experiences.
    I can relate to both Donny and Martha here, specifically i spent my uni years being around people that werent really interested in me but were keeping me around because they had something to gain from me, it's a sad realisation that what most people have seen in me is only an easy way to pass their exams and that my self respect was so low that i settled for that.
    I am still working on that, it is kinda like one step forward two steps back.

    I 100% believe Richard's telling the truth. He covered a bunch of really personal things in the show. So he outed himself, too. Why would he tell such a dramatic story just to lie about one person. Nah, I think he's an amazing and strong story teller.

    Great job!
    Your final comments (beginning 15:46, The Self Destruction of Richard Gad about RG actually leads me to believe he has BPD ("The extreme lengths he went to keep toxic people in his lives.") You present her mental instability in a more compassionate way with the words you use whereas with RG you use much stronger language. It's like, she couldn't help it so we will give her grace but there is no grace given RG for his instability instead it sounds more judgmental. I hope you will relisten to it. I do believe that you tried very hard to be even handed but repeatedly you point out that RG was making these choices and it sounds a bit like he deserved it.
    Anyway, I just wanted to bring your awareness to it because I do believe RG has spent many years uncovering his traumas and working through them. In the show he takes responsibility for his part in it, leading her on from time to time, etc. She however denies everything at every opportunity to she gets. He's become a more whole person whereas she does not. Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts on that last iceberg point as I am sure you are unaware of how it comes across. Great job with the video, I enjoyed it and you have a great tone.
    Keep it up!

    • @sunsetphoenix900
      @sunsetphoenix900 18 днів тому +69

      Richard has said that the show is not a one for one accounting of events. Instead, he's referred to it as an "emotional truth." It's not a true crime documentary, and he didn't want it to be. Richard likely never followed her to her house, just as I'm sure a lot of what was shown in the show did not play out exactly how it did in real life, intentionally so. Instead of being a true event, what that scene is doing is expressing his feelings on his returned obsession with her. Later in the series, Richard talks about how he struggled with his own obsessive thoughts of her and how he had, in a way, become like her. The scene at the comedy club, where she refutes his claims of her being a stalker and states that HE was the one that followed HER home, that line hits you in the gut because. . .she has a point. Adding the plot point of him following her home is an allegory for how he emotionally feels in the situation, and is a succinct and impactful way of showing you how he dealt with his own complex feelings of confusion and culpability. Richard was also intrigued by her and made many mistakes and wrong choices that he openly admits to feeding the situation, and it is expressed in the show that he did on some level like her admiration. He may not have physically followed her in real life, but he emotionally did, and he had to reckon himself to the part that he played in everything.

    • @jessicarobinson8801
      @jessicarobinson8801 18 днів тому +8

      @@sunsetphoenix900 that’s such a good outlook! Yeah, it’s so hard when you don’t know what’s true and what’s false - it makes me feel even worse for Martha because like you said about his complexed feelings of liking her attention, he must’ve led her on and so you can somewhat understand why she had this warped perception of how he liked her back.
      But also I struggle to believe Martha in the Piers interview when she said she didn’t love him? Surely that was a lie? (Not that she owes it to anyone to admit everything she felt)

    • @sunsetphoenix900
      @sunsetphoenix900 18 днів тому +8

      @jessicarobinson8801 I have sympathy for Martha too, and Richard does as well. I think she's an unwell person, and I think Richard gave her inches, which she took for miles. She may not have loved him in a true sense of the word, but she was definitely infatuated to have sent the sheer number of emails and messages. Netflix has verified those numbers, and no person who is mentally well does that. I, of course, haven't personally read or listened to them, but I have a hard time believing that the feelings she expresses in them are purely platonic, lol

    I feel sorry for Fiona, even though she really is like that. She shouldn't have been known to the world, her life is ruined, except for two people who conspired to win they way to the court. No matter which side wins He can divide it in half. Netflix may be a victim of these two people. Since both their lives are in the public light now. They have nothing to lose. My thoughts may be too imaginative. Think about it, there's something strange about the two of them.

    2.35 mins in and I have an opinion!
    She’s a nutter, for sure and she threw herself right under the bud on the Piers Morgan interview.
    BUUUT, Netflix and that guy said it was a true story; not based on a true story.
    So if it turns out that she didn’t go to prison she has a good case against them!
    Don’t get me wrong… she’s pretty dreadful but there might have been huge mistakes made on Netflix’s part…
    And the plot thickens!
    Oh yeah, and he admitted to leading her on.
    If you think someone is a dangerous stalker wouldn’t you stop encouraging them’
    I would!
    And he was a very unfunny, embarrassingly unfunny comedian so it looks like he’s trying to find his pot of gold, which he has, by totally annihilating this woman.
    I would want be anywhere near her after seeing her on PM I censured but that is the point. If you you don’t want people like that around you then don’t encourage them and create space between you and them.
    I think they call it, ‘boundaries’.
    If you invite this kind of crap into your like then you are as much to blame.
