Ooh good idea, I'll do that next time! Also if I were to try and clean my vest I'd probably spray it with something like denatured alcohol or some of that stuff designed to make soft furnishings not stink, febreze?
I can agree with looking dirty and stuff with ripped jeans and what not. But to actually be dirty, HELL NO. I can hardly go two days without a shower. Unless I pull a dead and bury my cloths or something, but that'll only be for like a metal party or whatever.
If you don't wash your vest simply because you're afraid of the washing machine, might I suggest you hand wash it?! You don't have to "wash" it per se (if you want to keep honor stains etc), but you could let it soak in soapy water for about 10 minutes and then rinse it. Would probably take away most of the smell :)
If your sewing is good enough they can go in a washing machine no problem. I've got a jacket I patched back in '04 that I was a few times a year. The cuffs on the sleeves (it's a winter jacket) are falling apart but the patches look just fine. Cold water, gentle spin, hang dry and all that for the sake of the patch designs though.
AriesEwa that would be awesome! there's a lot of girls here in Dallas that dress preppy. but catch them in the pit and holy hell. not to mention there's so much diversity of metal chicks
On a related note, he should also do a video about female fronted metal bands. Some people think its just a trend and hate it, but some people think it's awesome
Seasoned badge of honour stink guy here. Been to too many Wackens and fallen in too many ditches to not be. One does not simply fly from Australia to get to a festival to wash the memories away! Each sniff transports me back to my home in a muddy field in Europe.
This is so ironic! i was just debating weather or not i should wash my Battle Vest. I smelled mine and thought i should wear it to college one more day then wash it Now i see you posted this the same day! Awesome!
I'm in the middle with the stink. i do see it as a badge of honor to have it smell after a really intense mosh pit, but when it starts to genuinely reek i do something that has helped me a lot when it comes to getting the stink out but not washing it. 1. hang up your battle jacket 2. mist down down with a spray bottle filled with vodka 3. wait for the vodka to evaporate (after it evaporates it wont smell like alcohol) 4. hang outside to breeze out 🤘
I have hand-stitched all of my patches, even my big back patch. Washing it would probably ruin all of them. I just let it sit in a big bowl with fabric softener just to get the smell out ;)
I personally don’t like the stink but would never try to cover it up. I mostly just try to avoid it and carefully hand wash my vest, avoiding the badges as much as possible, when it gets too much.
You can hand wash your vest or use the portable stain removers. Also their are odor eleminators like febreez that sometimes work. Me I would leave it be unless their was something on my best I really didn't want on there. For instance, some bodily fluids I don't want lingering in there like too much vommet. That's when I would lightly remove those stains without removing to much of the smell. Also I mask it with body spray when I go out so people can at least tolerate to be around me. That will go away after time and the smell comes back at the end of the day.
HAND WASH IT! :D Soak it in really soapy water, rinse, and hang it to dry. Easy! It got two years worth of stench out of my battle vest. Now it's bearable to wear again.
The only time I’ve washed my jacket so far is when my cat decided to mark my jacket as his territory. My jacket hasn’t seen any shows yet and I don’t want an unearned smell.
Crust Punk is Metal now . I had my cut off since 2002 never been washed has pig blood stains all over it thanks to Erik from Watain. But I did buy a new jacket after Paul from blood incantation sent me a patch, along with a big leviathan patch that came with my scar sighted 2xLP, a Full Of Hell patch and a Mayhem patch for Dom Awesome Sathanas. I'm just keeping the sleeves on this jacket since my vest still has a few years left in it but I strategically put my patches on I never overdo it. Every few years I'll switch the back patch depending on what music I'm into at the moment. I had a Repulsion back patch on my vest which is now replaced with a Krieg-The Black House backpatch
I might air out the stink (especially when my vest reeks of weed), but my patches are mostly printed on (That's what I get for being cheap!), so washing isn't exactly and option
Emily Anarres mine smells like weed shame and whiskey it's covered in motorcycle Greece blood Sweat and Tears it's ripped and shredded I've laid a motorcycle down with it on I wouldn't trade it for the world
snaggletooth bastard yeah i understand. ill never wash my vest but if i really had to go somewhere where people would call me out, febreeze scent is temporary...
You can stick your vest in a bag and put it in the freezer overnight, it'll come out smelling like nothing as long as you don't put it near any meat or fish
You can wash it. In stead of putting it in the wash were the images facing the middle Center. Turn it inside out. Put other cloths in with it as well. That will prevent it from moving alot. What ruins patches most is. The dryer. The dryer can rip the patches. Just hang it to air dry.
A little tip, something y'all could to is spray vodka on your jacket, immediately the alcohol gathers up the odor clinging to your clothing. When the alcohol evaporates into the air, it takes the smell with it. Just mix any vodka, cheap expensive, doesn't matter, with some water and put it in a spray bottle and set it to a mist. Ta Da!
Also I did wash mine once. I didn't add soap (there should be some residual soap in the machine), i buttoned it up inside out, and added a towel or two, then set it on the gentlest cycle and hung it outside to air dry. It is a bit of a risk because there is a chance the patches might bleed, but mine was fine and all my white patches looked better/brighter. I also double thread mine when I sew them so that might make q difference. And supposedly denim doesn't really hold much bacteria, so if you vest smells its probably pretty fucking dirty lol
I've had my battle vest for all most ten years I can count the number of times its been cleaned on one hand. the main reason I don't wash it is I always misplace the chains and pins I have to take off of it in order to wash it. if I want it to smell "nice" I spray it with deodorant. I did that that the day I got married in my vest.
Hand wash your vest..then hang it up outside during a nice day.. However, there is a good reason wash your vest ... Before you sew the patches on it..i learned this lesson first hand The vest/jacket that I bought a while back was shipped to me from china. The vest was sprayed with the same chemical that is sprayed on carpeting... i didn't wash it for a long time.. even sewed patches & other decorations on it.. Then the smell of formaldehyde ,literally made me sick ( as I'm severely allergic to it) i had breathing problems& asthma attacks.. My battle vest advice to you is :When you buy a vest from a foreign country.. wash it in warm water immidately before you add any patches to it ,or you'll be inhaling the sickening aroma of embalbing fluid for months! ~
since I haven't been able to build up my own battle vest I often wear my boyfriends (he lets me) and I don't mind the smell honestly but there's a time when I gets too bad and he has to wash it (gentle cycle on both washer and dryer) and it usually smells a little bit like it did but not as noticeable
Yes me too! I want to start one but I don't even have the denim yet! I'm going to see Cradle of Filth tonight. Maybe they sell patches at their concerts? I've never checked before! (I'm a girl btw)
I just wash my patch jacket inside out at the local laundromat. Its not a big deal except the patches shrivel up a bit. I don't see any honor in stinking. My jacket is usually unbearable just by going to 1 show, so it's not a big accomplishment or anything. Backpatch usually gets faded, but I take that as the real badge of honor. ps: dry cleaners are toxic and expensive.
Have mine for over ten years now and didn't wash it once. When the smell becomes unbearable just hang it outside for a couple of days by dry weather, the smell doesn't change but it becomes a bit less strong. Before the current situation I went to about 50 concerts and 5 or 6 Festivals each year so of course it smells, especially after a rainy and muddy festival weekend.
I have some kind of "sassy" stink on my vest after going to knot fest in the Texas sun (tho the Moshe's only happened at night) this was my first time wearing the vest at a concert and actually the first time iv been in a mosh pit, so yeah it's not hard at all to get a funk on that thing
I can appreciate the smell and the stank of a vest, however, I do wash my vest every once in awhile. When I do, I usually just throw it onto my porch, remove the pins and just hose it down, then just let it air dry, and put the pins back in.
I'm debating giving mine a good soak in the tub after last weekends Machinehead show. It must have been 120 degrees in that venue and humid as fuck. But after watching this vid, Im giving it second thoughts. I might just let it ride and see how it is at the next show I attend in a week.
I hate smelling bad, but my battle-vest is still brand new, so it doesn't have a smell yet. However, when the day comes I'll probably just take the pins off my vest and wash it by hand with some shampoo. That should make the stink go away without damaging it. Alternatively one could just hang the vest outside for a few nights to aerate it. Just make sure it doesn't get too much direct sunlight, or the fabric and patches may bleach out from the UV radiation!
I don't have a battle vest nor have I been to any concerts, but I definitely agree with you on this!! If I had a battle vest, I would definitely earn my own stink and I would never wash my vest. I wouldn't be like those dirty cheaters who buy fake stink! That would be like cheating on a test like a metalhead test. You can also get it nice and smelly by wearing it on a hot muggy day outside all day!! Or you can go get sprayed by a skunk while wearing it, lol jk. Don't do that.
I do not want it to stink, as general respect for those around me. But I do not dare to wash it, for the same reasons mentioned in the video. So after a particular brutal night, I hang it outside for a day or two, weather here in Denmark permitting, and normally the stink will be reduced to something bearable.
I am starting a battle vest soon, and honestly... i would be an honor stinker.. i'd rather earn the stink to remember the shows i go, or mosh pits i go in.
Dylan Schad what u mean? because I dont vests it mean Im a hipster?, wow u really idiot. Maybe u dont undertand what I try to say, I dont like any kind of vests, just dont like it a lot. In my closet I only have sweater and jackets. If I decide to do battle clothe it will be in a sweater because I like it and I do what I want.
Blackshrk Music It was a joke mate. Hipsters like going against the social norm. The norm in this case being the use of vests rather than sweaters. Do you get it now?
But Im not going against of the social norm od metalhead or whatever, Im just saying I dont like vests. Otherwise it doesnt matter is it have to be vests
I've never washed my battle vest and I was wearing once whilst puking in a toilet at a gig after drinking chilli flatliners. I almost puked on it once at a party but luckily my mate had moved it just before I boaked. I do wash my battle jacket though. I button it up and turn it inside out and it seems to keep the patches from coming off.
Honestly I don't really wash my jacket but the times I have put it in the machine nothing happened to it or the patches. Just kind of a hassle to take off all the buttons
I know people that bleach and rip with stones his patches to make them look "vintage" so I totally believe about someone trying to buy the stink in bottles... My vest smells like medieval streets, and I've been refusing all this years to put my baby into a washing machine, but what I've been doing it's to put it on the freezer, on a plastic bag, because it's suposed to kill bacterias and make it smell less awfull... I can't tell if it really works, but I do it anyway. At first I did notice something, but so far... well, it came to a point when the dirt on the neck of all the sweat was looking like pure mud, so I decided to handwash that part, and the armpits, with gentle soap. Once in a while it's very refreshing, actually.
I haven't had my vest long enough for it to gather a stink. I've been to a few shows with it but it still smells pretty clean. Either that or I can't notice the smell because of how often it has been with me.
i wash my jacket i just pour soap and warm water in a container and put my vest in there let it soak out doesnt really take the smell away still smells like blood but it helps a lot
I can appreciate the badge of honor stank man, but I would say I don't need my vest reeking to high heaven. One suggestion I do have for washing your vest (if you desire to) is to hand wash/ soak it in the sink. I did that to my first vest and it got rid of the majority of the stank , but a small amount still lingered and it left my vest looking a bit cleaner while not compromising my patches. Love your videos! Stay metal \m/
I dont stink much, im just not a stinky person but Iv been wearing my battlejacket EVERYWHERE for the past year or so, so iv gotten a good start on the stink!
I also don't wash mine because I've made a few of the patches myself for bands that don't actually sell them or they're really hard to find; so if I wash it, the paint or whatever else I used would come off...
i dont have a battle vest, my parents wont buy it and i dont know where i can find one, but if i had it i would probably keep the smell as an honour to my past experiences
I want my vest to stink a little but not too much. Also, I have a lot of safety pins on my vest which would make it extra hard to wash it cause you obviously can’t put safety pins in the washing machine. (And I’m too lazy to take them off just to wash the vest).
mine hasn't been washed in 3 years, there's a bit of grime build up around the neck area so i might wash it soon. its been to a good 20 shows and two festivals so it really is gross
I have a sentiment value with my vest my dad help me make mine at 18 and he made 3 of his own and crazy part is he like the bands I listen to he's dead now I'm 22 and still haven't completed mine but he did leave me all his vest but mine is very special to me
Haven't started my new one yet, and it already reeks of pipe tobacco. If I want it to not stink, I guess I'll use an aromatic pipe tobacco (cherry or rum flavored).
I like keeping my shits neat. I'll try my best to get rid of the stink. I'd rather freeze it (in details below) or wash it by hand. Freezing the vest in a freezer is a badass way. Doing this will not rip off any patches or wear off any printed patterns. The cold can prevent bacterias. Do take down All the pins off and fold the vest into a plastic bag before putting it into a freezer. If it get too dirty or got beer/ vomit on It, hand wash it first and wait it to get totally dry first. At least freeze it for three days. When you take it out, Keep the plastic bag wrapped untill it gets warm, and hang it up. BTW, never let your mom wash your own shits.
my mom hates the stink she just washes it once or twice a year by hand so nothing gets ruined but i hate it i love how my main vest has stains around the neck where my hair and head sweat comes on it
My mom put my jacket in some water with some shit idk the name of the clean it after 1 of the cats pissed on it. The jacket wasn't even finished and i had never used it. But i doubt i will clean it when it starts to smell.
Sveino1000 I've had mine on for 3 years everyday for three years I wrecked a motorcycle wearing it and shredded the bottom of it I've gotten blood on it I've gotten tears on it it's soaked in sweat it's dirty it's decrepit it's beautiful wear it with pride my brother for it is a badge of honor that any Metalhead can respect
I remember one time I passed out in my own vomit at a show, later went home and washed my vest. It was wet with vomit and I was mortified. That was a couple years ago and I haven't washed it since. I used the washing machine then hung it up to dry. My patches were just fine, no fraying, no ripping. Use a light cycle. I don't mind some stank, but I'm not gonna wear vomit. Fake stink spray? What the fuck hahaha.
You can turn your vest in side out and button it and wash it low speed. In cold water. Woolite darks detergent. But I haven't washed mines. I have dark throne gorgoroth bathory backpatches did not get to the front yet but I love it. My fam don't have a problem. Well they're Christian so they don't pay me no mind. But I'm making my daughter a Pokémon battle jacket cuz she loves Pokémon.
Step 1-Throw your vest in a pillow case and wash it on low speed cold water.
Step 2-Hang it up to dry it after.
what do you do if you have an all white patch would it be affected?
@@emoryrhodes1518 I don't think so
Do you think that will fuck up the paint or get rust on studs?
Todoliver69 I would imagine the cold water wouldn’t really affect paint too much
I have a bunch of pins all over mine and I don’t wanna take all of them off. Would they fall in the wash?
You can wash the vest the good old fashioned way - with hands, you know? No need for drycleaners. :D
Or you can take it to the priest and he'll clean it with that holy water and wash off all those sins from it.
You don't force the altar boys to drink it. You pour it over yourself while wearing your vest.
Ooh good idea, I'll do that next time! Also if I were to try and clean my vest I'd probably spray it with something like denatured alcohol or some of that stuff designed to make soft furnishings not stink, febreze?
he's not a woman
try putting your battle vest on a hanger & hanging it out side during a nice day .. when there's a breeze
I can agree with looking dirty and stuff with ripped jeans and what not. But to actually be dirty, HELL NO. I can hardly go two days without a shower. Unless I pull a dead and bury my cloths or something, but that'll only be for like a metal party or whatever.
When I need to wash my battle vest, I take Abbath with it !
lol
Lol
Clever
Once I smelled so bad , I went up to a girl and she threw up puke, blood , beer and Slayer albums at the same time
Rip Jeff Handlebar \M/
😂
I've washed my vest by buttoning it up and turning it inside out before washing. I hang it up to dry. None of my patches fell off.
I don't want the stink purely out of courtesy for others. I don't want to smell anyone else's nastiness, so I won't make people endure my nastiness.
If you don't wash your vest simply because you're afraid of the washing machine, might I suggest you hand wash it?! You don't have to "wash" it per se (if you want to keep honor stains etc), but you could let it soak in soapy water for about 10 minutes and then rinse it. None a lil tide can’t fix
Came here to ask this, ain't the dude ever heard of hand washing? How does he think people washed clothes before washing machines were invented lol
i dont really like the stink so I wash it by hand
That's thrash
Yeah I'm definitely the second one, I'm not a sentimental person and I fucking hate bad smells, to me hygiene is more important.
fuck that i dry clean my vest i know what concerts i've been to i don't need to walk around smelling like shit xD

I once try to spray AXE body spray on my vest to add to the stink and to keep it clean.
I'm an honor vest thingy 😂 but my mom has taken my vest 2 times and washed it and it's never been the same since then
Alex Apelsten that would happen to mines if I have one
I dont have battle vest haha, I dont like vests, I rather do a battle sweater
God damn hipster!
I don't know enough bands to make one.
I put in the dryer on sanatize and some dryer sheets and spray febreze don’t use Lysol get like lavender febrrze.. that’s what I do
I've never washed my battle vest and I was wearing once whilst puking in a toilet at a gig after drinking chilli flatliners.
Just kind of a hassle to take off all the buttons
if you don't want to wash it but also don't like the smell you could put some vodka in a spray bottle and give your vest a good misting.
The stink is concerts, festivals, moshpits, blood, sweat, and beer
I have a sentiment value with my vest my dad help me make mine at 18 and he made 3 of his own and crazy part is he like the bands I listen to he's dead now I'm 22 and still haven't completed mine but he did leave me all his vest but mine is very special to me
diffentaly an honor stinker the after concert smell is the best plus I belive it's bad luck to wash my vest
the old metalheads can smell the new metal heads
Haven't started my new one yet, and it already reeks of pipe tobacco. If I want it to not stink, I guess I'll use an aromatic pipe tobacco (cherry or rum flavored).
I personally hosed mine off and hung it out to dry...seems to have worked well for me but mine wasn't too stank.
BTW, never let your mom wash your own shits.
my mom hates the stink she just washes it once or twice a year by hand so nothing gets ruined but i hate it i love how my main vest has stains around the neck where my hair and head sweat comes on it
I prefer "clean" - but I am different anyway
When i finnaly make my vest i will enjoy that vest everyday
Have you made your vest yet?
@@kota1748 sorry to tell ya bud, I never started a battlevest
My mom put my jacket in some water with some shit idk the name of the clean it after 1 of the cats pissed on it. The jacket wasn't even finished and i had never used it.
But i doubt i will clean it when it starts to smell.
Sveino1000 I've had mine on for 3 years everyday for three years I wrecked a motorcycle wearing it and shredded the bottom of it I've gotten blood on it I've gotten tears on it it's soaked in sweat it's dirty it's decrepit it's beautiful wear it with pride my brother for it is a badge of honor that any Metalhead can respect
Sveino1000 mine smells like weed Sham and whiskey with a hint of lavender because I let my female wear it
I had to try if my vest smells bad. Not too awful, smells a bit like cigarettes, sweat, and mud. I've never bothered to clean it
I'm not any of them..i'm still working on my vest
Personally I not connected to the smell, yet things could change, but for now my method of wash is the bathtub method
i clean mine in the bathtub hand wash and soap it and then pour water on it and ring it out and it comes out fine
Awesome video as always! Also awesome Death t-shirt! \m/
I had a shirt that smelt so bad that my mom washed it 3 times and it still stuck bad..
My mom burnt it and bought me a new shirt
Chris from Jhofffilms has/had a battle apron.
Oh fucking love all the cigarette smoke, blood, beer and sweat stains on my jacket...
