I remember that news story. I went to a christian high school and we had a special assembly so they could preach at us about how evil heavy metal was. The funny thing is they used Limp Bizkit as an example.
I would fully embrace the metal stereotype in high school, just to freak people out. I remember showing up to school on Halloween wearing corpse paint, and spikes. Still hilarious to this day.

I'm in high school like some other commenters here. My school is filled with snobby rich white kids who have nothing better to do than spend their parents' money getting high and drunk at raves. Usually I'll just get weird looks for my band shirts, but sometimes someone will ask to hear what I'm listening to, see my Spotify open, or hear it unintentionally from headphone noise bleed, and will make a comment like "Wow I didn't know you listened to screamo".
I've never been called a satanist in High School has nor my best friend, we were pretty sociable and were described as "very chill and comical". I agree with you. I think you should also talk about the public's opinion of us. I know christian metalheads that have been stopped and asked if they know jesus. Some of people's ideas of what metalheads are like is somewhat advantageous. Violent brutal people especially when wearing a cannibal corpse shirt with the battle vest, so people tend to leave you alone. I get some crazy looks when I smile or hold a door for someone or even be sociable and make small talk with someone. Today it happened. An elderly woman dropped some money on the ground and when I picked it up for her people thought I was going to steal it.

At school I personally don't get persecuted for being a metalhead, even though at my school we have to wear uniforms I have mentioned that I'm a fan of metal and on the rare occasions that we get to wear whatever we want I often wear a band shirt. One time a girl actually complimented my Metallica Master Of Puppets shirt and when I sung Army Of The Night by Powerwolf for the talent show people complimented my singing ability, so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
I guess that makes two of us who sang a power metal song for a school talent show. I never even been in chorus my entire school career and I'm a high school sophomore as of right now. I sang Nightwish's The Islander by the way, people were, like you, complimenting me on my ability and were surprised by me being up there in the first place. If only my crush was able to go, I she was supposed to be part of it but other plans took priority I guess. A shame too, she has an amazing singing voice, although maybe it's just my love for anyone who can sing soprano, I swear every soprano I've heard is guaranteed to have an angelic voice. Though in 9th grade, and some of 10th, I was persecuted for being a metalhead. It probably doesn't help that I'm either quiet, sarcastic or somewhat cynical but still, other than a few instances, I pretty much showed myself to be a fairly nice guy. Either they disagreed with me on what defines as a nice person or they thought I was posing a facade to manipulate them. To those I say, I don't have the power to manipulate people (I'm a Libra so that tends to come with our nature though) and I'm pretty real and open anyway, and you must have impossible standards for a nice person.

Hey, what's up? Cool video, as always. On this one I find particularly interesting and I must agree with you on some stuff but I do have a different opinion on the potrayal of Metal Heads on "fake" media. I'm 29 so I'm past the highschool crap, yeah people were scared of me in highschool. In college nobody cared. I'm a guitar and vocal instructor. I lead a "School of Rock" type of project, and we do have a lot of kids. However, I stumble upon some difficulties when I talk to them about heavy music in general. I must always talk to them about Rock and not Metal, because most of them don't even understand the difference (my older students do understand and many of them are metal heads in metal bands). After inquiring most of the kids about what they thought what a person who liked and played Rock is like, they pretty much described to me a punk rocker. A guy with mohawk, many tattoos, piercings, wearing lots of chains and agressive accessories, with "crazy clothing" and "crazy attitude" (I have no idea where they are getting this from). A little girl of 8 years old justified that it was what she had seen on the Regular Show. This made us need to promote an "open day" to get the parents in and to explain to them that although our speciality of teaching Rock and Metal to their children, didn't imply that we would turn them into murdering devil worshiping drug addicts. We had to explain some stuff, the origins of certain genres and that peoples' personal choices and beliefs sometimes are linked to entire movements and may give all of them a bad rep.
I actually made a super short tumblr post about this a little while ago!! It was something along the lines of, "Hey media, stop portraying metal as just screaming." or some shit.
The only thing about fictional media is that it gets a little cringey sometimes, you can just tell they didn't do proper research but it's no big deal. When it comes to real life stuff, you're right, the dumb comments dissappear after high school
Great video! I never had a bad experience with me being into metal, apart from the typical sexist things that sometimes happen but I don't really mind them. I usually only get a lot of hate when I say I'm a satanist, because I actually live by the "rules" of the Church of Satan (call it stupid, I don't care), and most people think I sacrifice goats and children and that I'm crazy or suicidal and into group sex and all of that. I remember there was a case in Russia a few years ago where some teenagers killed someone "in the name of Satan", and everyone stopped talking to me because they were "afraid of me", although I wouldn't even hurt a freaking bug lol
One thing that I have noticed is that in children's shows there is usually a main character who is being bullied by either a punk person or a metalhead..
love the channel and I play drums. I'm a new metal head of one year and my favorite bands are slipknot and avenged sevenfold. Keep up the great work man!!!!!!!
I feel the same way about Lordi's albums. They haven't really had a good one for me since Deadache. I'm holding out for Monstereophonic but my hopes aren't high.
Hey man ik this is kinda off topic for the video but I had a couple questions. 1. how long did it take you to grow your hair and goatee after you cut if for work? and 2. do you play any instruments? me and my fiancee love your videos we watch them all the time lol not trying to leave a big ass rant or seem like I'm just trying to get attention. I'm just saying keep doing what your doing man and it's nice to see someone else from Canada who truly understands metal and is so polite and open and dosnt push his opinion onto the viewer. again I apologize if I came off rude or like I need to be in the spot light that's not how I ment it at all. keep doing what your doing man and rock on.
You make an interesting point on both sides. I got short hair and were band shirts all the time. It's what I like and I don't care what people say about it. I got a suggestion how about contestants on a singing competition television series who are metal heads. I do like Lordi but Scare Force One was the most disappointed album I've heard. But I do hope Monstereophonic (Theaterror vs. Demonarchy) is better.
cool video man as always I have one thing like a little advice if u can get a better Webcam if u have 70 bucks u can get a really good webcam that is it keep on rocking brother
Most of the time, in the UK at least, when they talk about people (usually teenagers or young adults) that have committed a crime on the news, they never mention what sort of music they listen to unless it's metal, as if to say that's the reason why they did whatever it was that they did. There has never been a news story of that nature that I've seen when they mentioned the sort of music and it not be metal
Lol I always liked lordi. havnt really kept up with their albums though like a lot of bands. I'm going to check that out. always makes me curious when someone says somethings really bad
Doesn't bother me much but that part about crime shows where metal bands end up being in some negative turn is so true, especially when they try to name the band in some dark, direct obvious way like "satan children", "lost souls" "murdering psychos", etc. But it does suck how the West Memphis Three were portrayed during their trails.
BMW, I know of TV Cop show that didn't have any Characters thatw ere metal heads on it..Law& Order.. this was a straight up cop/legal show which was very good
My School class and I had a political trip to Nuremburg and one of the guys I had to share a room with said just before going to bed: "Pls don't summon the devil or worship any other demon tonight", and it didn't seem that he was joking
aw, that's a shame, I'm friends with one of the production mangers for Lordi, he also is the production manger for WWE wrestling as well, Lordi is a great band, they just happen to be getting massively produced now. Please stick with them, they really do love their fans.
I'm surprised there's not a lot of conversation about black metalheads. I've been into rock for a long time now. Started with Dio (R.I.P.) and I went from there. If I put on some Lamb of God at work and someone overheard it, I get looks like I'm about to strangle them. It's kinda funny to me because I don't fit the "look" but it helps keep energy up It would be cool if there was any other opinions about this ✌👽
If you have seen or read a lot about the west memphis three case you will find (believed or not if they are guilty) that a big part of the case against this three boy was based on their appearance it was all about "they have to practice Satanism because that heavy metal music the listen to and look how they dress" all that stuff and it was even worse because all this case happens in a small really religious town and there its when you see this stereotypes are so dangerous because most of the time if there its a murder that involved a "satanic ritual" the firs group of people that police will haunt will be the ones that fix in the "metalhead stereotype" and that's actually really really sad.
Well look no further than the west memphis 3 case. They convicted three innocent dudes because one wore black all the time, the other was a metallica fan. They got released after 18 years in freakin prison. I mean, it could have been any of us. That sends shivers don my spine.
Guys, I need your help. I have been listening to black metal only for a little while and been loving bands like Horna, Ajattara and Impaled nazarene. Any bands or just albums to listen to?
I don't listen to Eagles Of Death Metal, but their name suggests that they play metal music. In my country, the news referred to an Eagles Of Death Metal concert as a "rock" concert. Which I guess is kind of fine. They probably had no idea what metal is and said "screw it, they have guitars and they play fast, they're rock."
I recommend watching a documentary called (West of Memphis). It's about 3 teenagers accused of being satanists and killing 3 little boys. One of them was wearing a Metallica tshirt in the movie.
The highschool thing was never really an issue for me, with liking metal. A good portion of the "popular" crowd even liked metal. Our school was literally surrounded by corn, and full of farm kids... and they still liked metal. lol
Well because I'm polite and respectful to most people at my school apparently I'm "too nice" to like people and I can freak them out when I sing Slipknot. I think it's hilarious in all honesty
when I was in high school the majority of the people I went to school with assumed I was a satanist because i didn't stand for the pledge and I always meditated in first hour. other than that I found it funny when someone tried mocking me. when I watched South Park I would laugh at how much I connected with the goth kids and I loved the episode with them and the emos."THEY'RE NOT THE SAME THING!!!! "
Watch the anime "Detroit Metal City", its hell lot of funny! but the Metalhead stereotype as a murderer its at its top ( But if you dont care you will piss your pants laughing)
It slowed down for me after high school too but every once in a while I will get asked if I worship satan, at this point it's kinda funny but I'm still facepalming in my head, it happens the most when I wear any Slayer shirt... go figure haha
down here in louisiana usa its pretty bad sometimes. i have even had people just straight up start spitting bible verses at me if they so happen to hear my music playing in my car (mind you i dont blare it either). it does depend but i so not let it get to me. also by the way if you were 6 in the late 90's...you 24? just wondering bc i am haha.
Here(oklahoma) it's not bad really. Being religious myself might have something to do with it but me and my dad always Blaire metal or rock. People don't mind here.
+Mack Whitaker im glad to hear that ma man :). It makes me happy to know some places are not so bad. As for being religious yourself i think thats awesome. It shows a different side of things that you dont normally see and that people normally do not think exist. Although its not as bad sometimes. most people who do approach me that way do not seem to care about actually talking to me. i think even if they did though they could not accept my views. perhaps it better that way. who is to say right?
When it comes to fictional media, I don't really care how they visually show metalheads. When going out, I fit the stereotype pretty good and at concerts, I see quite a lot of metalheads with band shirts, long hair, cargo paints etc... So I won't act like there is no "truth in television" if they choose to dress a metalhead character in this way, I'm perfectly fine with it. When it comes to villain roles, I don't really care either, everyone can be a villain, though a bit of originality wouldn't be bad. I think there are others who suffer far worse from stereotypes presented on television than metalheads... When it comes to news media, it would be nice if we were portrayed like regular people with a passion for a specific genre of music, who are part of a subculture, than some sort of freaks but again, I often find it more funny than irritating and in my country (Belgium), when metalheads get in the news, it is more often in a positive light than a negative (like the opening of a meeting place for metalheads or a last year, a corona-proof metal concert in open air).
I'm a christian and a metalhead, and I've got shit from both sides. I've been aproached by religious people trying to convert me, and is always funny when I show them my rosary, their faces xD. I've also attended a christian school my whole life and there were only a couple of metalheads, we were like 5 or so in the whole school. Never was a problem, except once when they asked a girl if she could please not wear a Manson shirt with a 666 blood print. Which, yeah, I kinda get it. But besides that, I've never got any negativity from the christians around me (which I'm gratefull for, PROGRESS YASS). Jesus christ, my aunt is my guide whenever I go to a concert in her city, just so I don't get lost. She waited in line with me at an Iron Maiden concert. And she is a nun. And the metalheads... most are chill, almost all my friends are atheist/agnostics and they don't give a fuck. I live my life and they live theirs. But I've met quite a few ones that are just... assholes. Literally some have tried to put me down once they discovered that I am a christian. Like not just jokes (gezz I can take that, I might even say some myself) but like hurtfull vile comments. One guu discovered that my uncle is a priest and he told me "Oh, so he is a profesional pedophile?". I didn't even respond, my atheist bff back me down on that one. But well, let's break some stereotypes while we can \_/
As for the kid who took his dog's life..I'd be at the park, walk up to the kid & hand him a note that reads " Taking the life of your dog, is one step away from murdering a human being ...if you don't want to go to prison on ten years ... Then let your dog live !
Hey man, love your videos. I was just wondering, since you like funny representations of metalheads in cartoons, if you've ever seen 'Detroit Metal City'? If you haven't, try checking it out, I think you'll like it. Anyway, keep up the great work dude!
I live in a part of California where most people listen to rap. Also, my school is only like 20% white (not that I care, but) so it's easy for people to misunderstand me as a white supremacist. Not everyone, but some people seem to think that my representation of the rebel (confederate) flag and my heavy metal apparel (and the music I listen to - so loud everyone can hear it) means that I hate non whites.... even though my best friend is black... It's just ignorance. People love to believe that racism, sexism, etc still exist today more than they really do. People love to create problems to solve and it's getting out of hand. Soon, BLM is going to end up killing someone...OH WAIT THEY ALREADY DID in Dallas!!! Anyways, that's my only experience with prejudice for my apparel. I'm pretty much discriminated against because I'm white, and the metal merchandise only adds a little bit. Peace, Werewolf, I love your videos. Keep up the good work, and stay brutal \m/
Seth Monster BLM is a more militant & violent version of their parent radical group , the black panthers! Even though the Black Panthers didn't kill anyone.I think that BLM should do some history homework on what radical protest group that they emerged from & read about Malcolm X , upon whose views the Black Pa b thers were based..because to me , BLM is little more than a black biker gang , who has gotten out of hand ! .I
Last time I saw metal being portrayed negatively in the news was in the early 90s. But you know, I live in Quebec and the people here are pretty open minded when it comes to music.
I remember that news story. I went to a christian high school and we had a special assembly so they could preach at us about how evil heavy metal was. The funny thing is they used Limp Bizkit as an example.

Awesome movie!

I remember there was a case in Russia a few years ago where some teenagers killed someone "in the name of Satan", and everyone stopped talking to me because they were "afraid of me", although I wouldn't even hurt a freaking bug lol
Sucks that you have had to deal with dicks being sexist.
Cool story though :)
Rock On.
Gray Udoroth Thanks!
It's always funny seeing people stereotyping Satanists. Every Satanist I've met have all been super nice people.
I discovered your channel a few months ago and I'm loving it. Greetings from Spain
Es buenísimo este tío
+Julen Lian Trehe Siiii. De donde eres?
Laura Bailén lml De Vitoria-Gasteiz
+Julen Lian Trehe Yo de Granada jajaja
A suggestion would be to put a semi colon between the band and the album in the warning/reccomendation section of the description :)
Yay you finally have a much louder mic!
What did you think of the representation In the movie Airheads
One thing that I have noticed is that in children's shows there is usually a main character who is being bullied by either a punk person or a metalhead..
Also I completely agree with the lordi album thing, sadly I have heard their latest song and well... It isn't exactly the best.
love the channel and I play drums. I'm a new metal head of one year and my favorite bands are slipknot and avenged sevenfold. Keep up the great work man!!!!!!!
my first band Hollywood Undead after one year Thy Art Is Murder
+N3cr0maniac LP Iron maiden was mine.
My first metal band was Acrassicauda.
Mine was sabbath or megadeth
am i the only one started with ozzy? craazy traaaain
I too saw that episode of Criminal Minds
The show Bones had an episode based around a black metal band. It was kind of amusing.
I'm starting a band called 37 blizzard funeral
sick band name
+Cat Vela thanks
+Shadow my bands name is 38 snowstorm burial, huh
Notify me if something comes of it!
+Owen Wright ye i agree
amazing video, like always.
Lol under 301 club?!? Oh right, we don't do that anymore
i love your channel you're awesome
do you have a source for this dog strangling child news?
I agree with the representation in actual media and it can be really messed up but I love seeing the stereotypes in fictional media
So that is where fishers neck went
Todd & the Book of Pure Evil was the greatest TV show since MST3K.
I'm going to be doing my dissertation on this :D
LFE T he must have been a devout. Catholic!
currently in highschool called a satanist and got preached to
it's funny cause in your profile pic you're wearing a pikachu onezie
DrManiac hoodie lol I washed off the sacrificial blood
+Devin Carter Nice
+Devin Carter a onesie would have been way more badass.
Aaron Davis I agree but as jigglypuff now that'd be metal
keep up the great work
aw, that's a shame, I'm friends with one of the production mangers for Lordi, he also is the production manger for WWE wrestling as well, Lordi is a great band, they just happen to be getting massively produced now.
It's kinda funny to me because I don't fit the "look" but it helps keep energy up
It would be cool if there was any other opinions about this ✌👽
If you have seen or read a lot about the west memphis three case you will find (believed or not if they are guilty) that a big part of the case against this three boy was based on their appearance it was all about "they have to practice Satanism because that heavy metal music the listen to and look how they dress" all that stuff and it was even worse because all this case happens in a small really religious town and there its when you see this stereotypes are so dangerous because most of the time if there its a murder that involved a "satanic ritual" the firs group of people that police will haunt will be the ones that fix in the "metalhead stereotype" and that's actually really really sad.
Out of curiosity I tried to find something online about that kid and have found nothing. Did anybody else find anything?
Well look no further than the west memphis 3 case. They convicted three innocent dudes because one wore black all the time, the other was a metallica fan. They got released after 18 years in freakin prison. I mean, it could have been any of us. That sends shivers don my spine.
Guys, I need your help. I have been listening to black metal only for a little while and been loving bands like Horna, Ajattara and Impaled nazarene. Any bands or just albums to listen to?
metalocalypse is so hilarious
I legit made a spoof a current affair on metal being evil for my media project 2 days ago LMAO
Uhh they are actually kinda weird with their name, from what I have heard of their music, they are most probably Rock
+Gray Udoroth That could be it, but they didn't even mention their name, they just said a "rock concert". Maybe they wanted to censor the word death?
Amateur777 Dunno, maybe they were just too dumb to actually mention the band's name.
Can I know what country you're living in ?
+Gray Udoroth Greece
Amateur777 Ahh, I have heard that Greece media doesn't really like Metal nor Rock :\
Have you heard the New Sabaton Album?
John Cathcart Yes! I LOVE Sparta, I was at a concert on Friday and they came out in armour
Wow, sounds amazing, where was this? I want to see if it's on UA-cam.
what do u think about slipknot ever since I started watching I've wanted to know.
corpsegrinder is actually one of my friends on instagram, I have an idea. call jesus.
I want Todd and the Book of Pure Evil to come back
what is the necklace that he wears?
Thors hammer
You could talk about the fluff on metal sites like metalinjection or brave words, anything Lars ulrich or Dave mustaine says takes up the entire page
when I was in high school the majority of the people I went to school with assumed I was a satanist because i didn't stand for the pledge and I always meditated in first hour. other than that I found it funny when someone tried mocking me. when I watched South Park I would laugh at how much I connected with the goth kids and I loved the episode with them and the emos."THEY'RE NOT THE SAME THING!!!! "
Where did you find the Alice Cooper tshirt
Fiona Pithouse Try Rockabilia.com
Juvenile is a good descriptor
Watch the anime "Detroit Metal City", its hell lot of funny! but the Metalhead stereotype as a murderer its at its top ( But if you dont care you will piss your pants laughing)
It slowed down for me after high school too but every once in a while I will get asked if I worship satan, at this point it's kinda funny but I'm still facepalming in my head, it happens the most when I wear any Slayer shirt... go figure haha
A long time ago i bought a game cartridge, it was called "f u", i thought it stood for fun unaltered l then thought that it was a houses for rent
down here in louisiana usa its pretty bad sometimes. i have even had people just straight up start spitting bible verses at me if they so happen to hear my music playing in my car (mind you i dont blare it either). it does depend but i so not let it get to me. also by the way if you were 6 in the late 90's...you 24? just wondering bc i am haha.
But well, let's break some stereotypes while we can \_/
Do you like Arch Enemy?
As for the kid who took his dog's life..I'd be at the park, walk up to the kid & hand him a note that reads " Taking the life of your dog, is one step away from murdering a human being ...if you don't want to go to prison on ten years ... Then let your dog live !
i thought you were going to say that the last stand is bad........ :)
Hey man, love your videos. I was just wondering, since you like funny representations of metalheads in cartoons, if you've ever seen 'Detroit Metal City'? If you haven't, try checking it out, I think you'll like it.
Anyway, keep up the great work dude!
Makes me think of Murder by Numbers. Great movie, but I hate how one of the killers was a metalhead.
is metalhead a race to some people
I live in a part of California where most people listen to rap.
Even though the Black Panthers didn't kill anyone.I think that BLM should do some history homework on what radical protest group that they emerged from & read about Malcolm X , upon whose views the Black Pa b thers were based..because to me , BLM is little more than a black biker gang , who has gotten out of hand !
.I
Maybe the problem is the confederate flag? I don't think anyone would think you're white supremacist because you like metal
You might as well have a swastika and say you're not anti-semite
\m/ metal rules!
Makes me think now... joke metal bands? Do they exist?
Steel panther isn't exactly a joke, but they kind of satirize the hair metal scene
Not sure about metal but Comedy Rock exists as a genre
I just found Austrian death machine a second ago and wow... lol
I think Steel Panther is a joke glam metal band.
Tenacious D is a thing
That's a really fucked up story of the boy and his dog.
Hey man! Do you know Skálmöld? And if so what do you think of them?
Stay brutal \m/
"Corpsgrinders Neck" oh gods I'm done lol btw neck fight between Corpse Grinder and Corey Taylor? Anyone?
Last time I saw metal being portrayed negatively in the news was in the early 90s. But you know, I live in Quebec and the people here are pretty open minded when it comes to music.
