FILM DESCRIPTION:
Former sportswriter Andy Farmer (Chevy Chase) and his secretly aspiring author wife, Elizabeth (Madolyn Smith), move to a small farm in Vermont so Andy can focus on writing a novel. They quickly realize that the locals are not as welcoming as they'd like and that the farm is more distracting than inspiring. Having trouble with his manuscript, and with his marriage on the rocks, Andy is forced to take hilariously drastic measures in an attempt to get his life back on track.

The mailman is one of the most underrated comical characters in cinema history!
Agreed.. I also feel this is Chevy Chase's finest performance. Just my opinion of course.
I wish I could laugh like that 😂😂
For real.
@@russellmichel6411the importance is in the timing.
And he straightens up for this yet can’t contain his laughter after saying he’ll miss them 🤣
Seen this movie a hundred times...his antics and that LAUGH tho....lollll....sounds like a little evil troll..😅😅
I do that every time I see the newspaper guy deliver at my house….
I know Andy was friggin PISSED but he couldn’t do anything about it.
This movie gave my mother happiness before she passed away 3 years ago ❤
Sorry for your loss
"I weeded out all the junk mail myself." 🤣
An underrated Chevy Chase film.
1:22 lol. Chevy Chase was always great in moments like that.
“Bud’s going to write a novel.”
(Cough, cough) 😅
Queue the deer. Man I have never forgot that line.
Ice fishing? Well I thought it was a nice touch. Ha. But it'll cost ya! Hahahaha hee hee haha!😂
Better than Xmas Vacation! So underrated or forgotten about!
Every time that I hear that LAUGH, I nearly soil myself!!!! I love it!!!!
"Andy, we even want to buy your dog."
"You...you want to buy Yellow Dog?"
My dad’s Navy friend looks and sounds like the mailman! Every time I watch his scenes I LMAO! 😂🤣 Ah, memories!
When he says he weeded out the junk mail himself as usual, did he really weed it out? Or did he toss it out of his car window while he was liqueured up and pissed off? 🤣
I love how everyone is sitting there, smiling, having their pie and coffee. While the Farmers are deviously bullshitting them out the frame.
I love the touch of humor in that movie, sometimes gentle, sometimes like a punch in a face 😄
I always thought Bud from Bud and Betsy was a goofball-the way he introduced himself with that bucky-grin 😂
He just stands at the door in shock the entire time. Lol!!
RIP Kevin Conway, AKA Crum Petree. Probably whoopin it up with Claude Mussleman and his mule.
This movie cracked me up, especially the mailman and yellow dog
His tail's in the fireplace, smoldering, and he's so low energy he doesn't even notice it.
@@mtntime1 For me, it was the moment he joins the circle of people carrying a human skeleton's arm.
@@forensicsciencefan5645 The only one who noticed was Elizabeth. She had to bop him on the head to get him to let go of it. Just another day in Redbud!
Mine too
Rum, nut, plum, raisin cake of the season lolololol
Doing some ice fishing tonight! Pulling out some nice sized pike I hear.
Imagine if the Farmers weren't moving, he would've tossed the rum nut plum raisin cake out the window onto the road too.
@@juniormint3136 or ate it himself
@@juniormint3136 The rum, nut, plum raisin cake was given to him by his wife, Mrs Petrie.
@@juniormint3136 awee u didn’t see the movie
That laugh 2:56
Evil little leprechaun.
I love the micro-change in expression the mailman has when he sees the people buying the house.
1:40 that look the mailman ain't drinking today lol
I come back to this mostly for the mailman's laugh 🤣🤣
Three thumbs down?!? WTF. I guess they were pretty well liquored up and pissed off.
Well, this video is 5 videos outside of their regular queue
Well, when you hook someone in the mouth and then try to punch them out, they're not gonna be happy.
I guess their boulders missed their mailmen.
They just didn't know when they had something good in their mouths.
Mail! Mr. Farmer!
Such a funny movie.
That mailman has one of the funniest laughs lol😂😂😂
Such an underrated movie.
My favorite scene, and also when the dog drags in that arm and the wife cracks him over the head with a frying pan. Then later it showed yellow dog with his head bandaged
I just watched this yesterday! Always been one of my favorite movies. Yeah that was the only time in the movie YellowDog was “alive” lmao
"Darling, the Collberson's are here."
Madolyn Smith was SO beautiful! And talented. Why didn't she do more movies, I wonder?
@@mtntime1 I'm looking at some information on Google that says she became a nun. Fascinating person.
@@farmerinchico Seriously? I had no idea. I thought she was so good in this movie. Very beautiful of course,
but also perfect for the role. Beverly D'Angelo is more well known for playing his wife in all the National Lampoon
movies, especially Christmas Vacation, but I like the way Madolyn Smith plays it better, myself. For example,
when he's going to carry her over the threshold but instead drops her like a sack of potatoes on the floor, and she's a good sport about it. Or when he's constantly bringing up "200 years ago the settlers had nothing" and she responds with
"And they lived to an average age of 29", or smacks on his forehead for a non-existent mosquito. She was very funny.
@@mtntime1 I also like her "burn it" line earlier in the movie. She is great in Funny Farm.
The cast in the entire film is excellent.
@@farmerinchico So, you don't like it? Burn it!
My favorite scene of the whole movie. Above funny.
That laugh. OMG!
Can I recommend Just Friends as an Almost Cult Classic? The movie has definitely gotten a bit more of an audience since it was released and perhaps aspects of it are a bit cheesy, but Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris are absolutely brilliant in it, especially Farris.
Cue the deer
Best Movie ever!!!
I remember he played Seamus O’Reilly on OZ.
One of my fave movies
Mailman was like every Irish “guy” I grew up with in Bridgeport, that’s Chicago. Classic movie. Only thing that kept me alive down there was I never messed with the paddy girls and was better at baseball than all of them. I write this with endearment actually. We were all good Catholics at school. That laugh from the actor…that’s real deal.
Cue the deer!
lol
Kevin Conway (Crum Petree, the Mailman) also played an evil prison warden in the Third Season episode of Miami Vice titled "Walk Alone". Kevin died February 5, 2020 in New York City from a heart attack.
He was a legend. He plays the bad guy in The Funhouse, Sheamus O'Reilly from Oz, Vince Papale's dad in Invincible, and tons of other films.
I just watched that episode of Miami Vice based on your comment. Such a great actor he was!
Phew I thought you meant he was evil in real life. He was so funny in this movie. RIP to him
Arguably Chevy Chase's greatest performance? What you say?
yuuuup
~~~~MAIL, MR Farmer😜😜😜
Love the laugh
A year later, Chevy Chase would be in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Buhahaha miss this movie
I think I would've had to take a pass on the first buyers and give that mailman and good ole' country "Red Bud" beatin.'
Watching in Australia at 1918, and getting pissed. At 57
I saw this in a private cinema, in the 80s before it was released, as an invited guest by Qantas for the QGTC (HUGE travel agent chain) best Qantas sellers. I was one of them. Free piss and gourmet food.
God I miss the 80s
Did you get cocaine?
Yellow dog knows
This is just like Missouri.
My dad sent this to me 🤣🤣🤣
In Mexico, that's how they pick up Basura. LOL
He would’ve made a good joker in Batman with that laugh
Interesting tidbit; The actor playing Bud Culbertson left acting and is now an Episcopal priest.
Not anymore. Now he's back in acting and plays as a side character in the show, "The Gilded Age"
RIP Kevin Conway
I actually forgot that Kevin Conway was the mailman in this film.
Jesus Christ, Madolyn Smith is gorgeous
That is Dan Aykroyds brother
The protagonist couple needed to have chin dimples for the part! Great casting!
I thought they were going to buy the farm for me so they could keep be tied down to the UK?
+1 see this video before 500 views
Madolyn Smith was a babe.
Too bad she had to work with Chase.
That must have been what caused her early retirement.
The mail man was in Mercury Rising too. Though not as a funny character.
He was a great character actor. Very recognizable face and the kind of guy you'd think "What have I seen him in before?"
I remember him as General LeMay in the amazing movie Thirteen Days.
2:57-3:01 Kamala Harris??
