A review of the Master Grade Ground Gundam from the anime "08th MS Team."
- Production note time - Feel free to read over if you’re into video production of toy reviews lol
- This video is technically a reupload of a previous review. However, I had to take it down and swap out the music, so I decided to make some updates. Below are the notes for the original version, followed by the notes for this updated version.
- This review was the first I’ve ‘rushed.’ I already had the Alex review done (for the original MG, it's unlisted now because the video was bad and the ver 2.0 came out anyway) and was itching to post it, so I powered through this one in 2-3 days. Most reviews take around 16 hours; I’d say this one was about 12.
- I mainly cut down on time by not being too ambitious. I cut everything down in the script writing process instead of just recording everything and cutting stuff out in the editing. That’s the power of a well thought out script, I guess.
- I added a black tarp to the background. For some reason it comes off super compressed on video. Maybe my backgrounds were always this grainy and I just never noticed. Regardless, I think I need to lower the ISO on my camera when capturing footage. I’m going to try to run some tests.
- I’m really trying to differentiate shots in this review. For example, using different title cards for each part, and using a different shot for each scoring section. I’m really working on making these as interesting as they can be….at least with them being overly analytical reviews of robot toys lol
- The editing was sooo much faster on this one. I’m not sure if it’s because I rushed this one, or if I’m actually starting to get the hang of Premier. The only thing that can dramatically speed editing up at this point would be upgrading computers.
Here are the notes for this updated version:
- Completely re-recorded audio. Kind of unnecessary, but the jump in quality ended up being huge. It's a real confidence booster considering audio is the one thing I can never seem to nail
- Because of the new audio, I had to adjust the whole review shot by shot. So I tightened some stuff, changed the speed of zoom ins, add box art, shortened some shots, cut up longer shots, added shadows, ect.
- Updated font
- New music
- All and all, I could probably post this as a full on 'redux' but eh, I didn't really touch the script or get any new footage, so I'd feel bad...

this channel is so helpful for figuring out good places to add detail with gundam markers. i tend to be really oblivious to stuff like that, so i'd be missing out on a lot of detail if not for this channel

Nice review. Ah Bandai at the experimental stage. So many kits based on this direction. Brittle ABS an use of screws. From the 1.5 to the EXS. :D

I'm fairly unfamiliar with the gunpla releases but it seems to me that they produce new version of either the classic RX-78-2 or the flashierr new gundams on 1/100 grade. Do you think its worth waiting for 2.0 of this one?

I love the ground gundam.
If i could pick my dream perfect grade kit to come out it would be a ground gundam, but that will never hapen, but i can dream.
That'd be so cool. It really surprises me how little love Bandai gives the Ground Gundam considering 08th MS Team is a lot of people's introduction into UC Gundam. We get a HG every now and again, and some P-Bandai spin offs, but I'd love an MG ver 2.0 or RG.

Right now, after having built the Epyon EW and Sinanju Ver. Ka, I'm looking for an MG Sazabi Ver. Ka or MG Psycho Zaku for my third Master Grade.
I only have the MG Gouf 2.0, but i recomend by visual and other reviews the qubeley or the Ac guy. I start following u because of ur review of the Turn A, i planning to get him in some near future i hope.

Been waiting years for a ground gundam RG or MG update so I can do an 08th MS Team diorama... About to cave and just pick up a few of the old ones. Gonna be pissed though if I get them, commit and add them to the diorama to the point of no return only for them to finally announce a new version though.

These small reviewers are so damn good. Calm voices and straight to the point. Gaikotsu guy's voice is so annoying.

this is a pretty overlooked kit, like it looks soo good!! and I don't like 8th ms team as much as other people do
You should do an update with the gm g type from this line. You can actually put the big pack on the gm and break the gms missile pod down and put it in the pack instead of the cannon lol. That's what I'm trying to find by watching all these videos lol but nice one for sure

Articulation sorta sucked, he can't hold anything except his sabers, the rocket barely holds together, and he has really brittle plastic

For a kit released in 2000 it is surprisingly impressive.
Would a 2.0 of this be cool? yeah, but it is still pretty decent if you are looking for a 1/100 Gound-type and don't mind the somewhat limited articulation.
Couldn't agree more. I just started building Gunpla yesterday with an 1/144 HG RX-78GP03S that I bought last Saturday. I almost went to this video's exact 1/100 MG RX-78 Ground Type for my first build. Now I guess I'm gonna get it for my second build!

Was this panel lined with a grey or black gundam marker?
Thanks for asking! I tend to use gray for white and off white pieces, then black for everything else. Black is way too strong on white pieces, so I find gray works much better. Some people like to use brown for yellow pieces, but in most anime line art yellow vents use black lining, so that's what I go with.
I also use a porous type marker, rather than those fine tip pins. I find the porous type get more ink into the channel, so everything looks cleaner and won't fade up as quickly.
I noticed this Ground Type looks almost identical to the Blue Destiny Unit 3. What are the differences?
Blue Destiny 3 is a modified version of Ground Type. BD3 is adapted to use the EXAM system and space combat. BD3 have missile launcher and vulcans on the chest, different backpack. Blue Destiny lines only appear in Gundam Side Story : Blue Destiny
I think it's rather amuzing when you talk about the manuals. Specially because recently I've been taking a look at traditional plastic model kits and damn, THOSE manuals are a mess, old Bandai manuals are a God sent compared to Revell and Aoshima ones... Those manuals are kinda like the "how to draw an owl" meme lol
lol, I know what you mean, I recently built a few of those Initial D Aoshima kits, and it's like deciphering hieroglyphs. I just make sure to include references to the manual to reassure beginners that even though it's an older kit, they don't have anything to be nervous about.
This suit would bring a chance for blue destiny and many other variations if 2.0 is a thing.
J Truong but since the show is 23 years old and most of the newer gundam fans are more into the newer master grade and Hgs and although they did make a hg remaster of this kit but the mg prob wouldnt sell as well making it risky to sell
@@Z3_R_0 I'd say it's got a really good chance of selling well, ground type is a lead mech with many variations in addition to being the most extensively used gundam suit in games, side stories, and many UC fans adore the machine.
J Truong honestly i would love to see a 2.0 but at the same time the articulation of the mg ground gundam gives it that realistic war feel than most of the other gundams but i would love to see higher quality plastic and more joints with the moving armor

Hands were the only disappointment. It's definitely built like a brick shit house and i hope they make a 2.0 soon, i'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. It's my favorite grunt suit. Actually it's the only UC master grade i have. Would get the granddaddy but the hands are disproportionately large and it just looks too weird to me.
