I am an MCA Yachtmaster both Motor Cruising and Sailing also power boat level 2. (fast powerboating is something fun to do, bit of a bumpy ride though but definitely an experience)

I found your channel originally as I was looking up about casting, as I want to cast the name plates as they were originally in 1946, hopefully will do them this year, it's been finding the bits & weather.. just found a used large fire extinguisher so now have a good melting pot.. making the plug is the fun bit.
Sea Prince was accepted on to the UK National Historic Ships Register in 2004.

congrats on passing the test Captain. You could fix that leak with a "Expanding Foam Gun". I have used it as an expanding foam glue. The can be very precise or dump the foam. It comes in fire proof formulations, low expanding etc. You can open and close it as you need.

OK, Captain Doug. First order of business is going to be that hat. There's the classic greek fisherman's (gold thread decorations or other decorations are traditional for the captain for these), the peaked cap (a few variations for this one to choose from, the ever popular tricorn, and the slight less popular bicorn which can be made to be worn in two directions or only in a singular, depending on the hat.
So cool congratulations this is amazing it shows that one can always dream and make it come True!

I got my day skipper cert in the UK went to college night school for a year. Then I did the second and third year up to ocean yacht master so I know what its like and take the exams and hit the books . But I really enjoyed it. Soon when my boat is ready for the water I can put it all to practice. Great video Doug.

Both experience and competency through theorical knowledge are important and here is why; When you don't know theories or are theorically incompetent, you don't learn all that there is to learn from the experience one gets. The learning comes down to a crawl. It's not enough to learn not to do something because of some bas outcomes. You need to know WHY the bad outcome happened. Quite often, without knowledge, you can't get there.

Yeah, you have to have so many hours of sea time. I'm guessing being a captain/skipper of your own vessel. The sea time regs are different. I know guys that work on the tugs they need to start out as an able deckhand,have a year or more of sea time. Then move to mate for quite a few years, then captain.
Cpt Doug remember to calc the mag N variation in the Navigation exam, I did in my aviation Navigation exam and hit 100% brother : )

Truth be told it's always the lucky ones that are so blessed to have a wife or partner that lets us act like we're the Captain, in Public. The Coast Guard rules over the knowledge part. It's histories Great Women that are the Greatest King Makers. As my Grandmother shared with the young ladies complaining what a great man PawPaw our Grandfather was as he was always doing what Meme wanted. One of the few times I was a good listener. She said making him believe it was his idea always made him motivated also providing the right amounts of praise.
As I bent over to correct my daughter over something I can't remember what it was, I remember my grandmother saying as she was about to spank my bottom." When I had kiddos of my own I was going to tell them what she was saying to me". I was thinking you mean old lady I'm never treating my kids like this...lol remember it as if it was yesterday. I heard her words in my head in her exact voice with tingles I felt her there. Bent over my toddler truly it happened.
