If he loved his son “so much”… the Father would’ve LEFT the mother the FIRST TIME she violently attacked their son…
But NO!… instead Dad wanted to keep his “good family” image… so he kept his children in the chaos… while he went outside his home to have an affair with a “side chick”…

My father died when I was eleven. I believed I needed to "be strong" for my mother. I didn't weep at all and kept up a pretty good front. At fifteen, I felt that my mother was "strong enough." I cried, broken-hearted, as if I'd just been given the news. I grieved openly, "normally," for the following year. You can't judge grief by outward appearance.

I have the same story . My father died when I was 13 and besides crying for a minute or two at the hospital I never cried again until years later. I knew if I broke down crying my mom and brother would cry and I just didn't want face the pain. So I had to be strong and not cry. I'm still the type that pushes any bad feelings deep inside so I don't have to be sad. You would never know I'd just lost my dad if you went on my emotions. Just because people don't break down in tears doesn't mean they are automatically guilty.

Except he has nobody he needs to be strong for, he's safe and sound by himself in an interrogation room with a stranger. I'm not a crier either but I'm not not-crying for show (I probably did plenty of grieving during the process so it was already out of my system), I'm just saying. Kids are terrified that bad things are their fault and take on responsibilities that are not theirs to take on.

Not being emotional should never be a factor in a conviction. It should never even enter the discussion. When I found our my Grandfather died from my mom, i finished what I was doing at work, drove home, and then drove to comfort her. No tears shed. Does that mean i murdered my grandpa? That i didnt love him? No. Everyone handles things differently, and i'm so tired of everyone analyzing people's response to trauma like its a smoking fucking gun.

It can definitely be an indicator though snd has to be considered. ESPECIALLY when they are indifferent to being accused. If you lob out a gentle accusation like “did you have any altercations with your mum today?”, that’s direct suspicion of involvement, and it’s very common for a guilty person to latch on to the gentleness of the accusation and hope they can just glide by it, whereas an innocent person is way more likely to be like woah what the fuck does that have to do with anything etc. i take your point but it’s a very different situation

I don’t feel the ex-girlfriend should have been allowed to sit up there and bash the defendant. There was no relevance to the fact that he was able to “lie so easy”. If that’s allowed as an argument in court now, there is not one of us who wouldn’t be prosecuted, we have all told lies before. While I feel he probably did do it, I wouldn’t be able to say without any ounce of doubt that he did do this. Such a sad story, nobody “wins” in these. Bless this family.

IMO, I think since Jeffery suffered from his mother's unpredictable violent rages launched at him, I suspect she attacked him again that day and it was the final straw. We can see how much he loved and protected his sister and I think he was worried about her since he wanted to move out and have a life (he sabotaged his relationship though) and she'd be left behind to battle her mother's outbursts. His mother may have started on him and followed him around carrying on and him thinking, "OMG how will Julia cope with her?" It doesn't mean it's premeditated if he's holding in his own reaction, worrying about his sister, then snapping and lashing out, like the whole overkill is in the head and throat, very symbolic of just wanting someone 'to get out of my head and shut the F up!'
I feel sad for him because it's obvious his mother's attacks on him have caused him to keep an unreactive demeanour, unemotional, dissociated appearance because he's an internaliser and they become pressure cookers. It's not fair to judge ppl on this 'blank' kind of response to a violent crime. This is just my opinion though.

    • @Sinsteel

When you're an adult and this happens, it's time to move out, not kill your mother. Remember that she had mental illness, not something she could help. Unfortunately, not taking her meds is also a symptom of that illness.

He definitely didn't have a blank expression when they read his sister's letter, his heart broke there.
This is exactly why there needs to be caregivers in situations like this. The mom's inability to take her meds, (sounds like she wasn't going to any kind of regular therapy either,) created a dangerous situation for everyone. TBH I don't think she should have been in a caregiving relationship for children at the very least. I'm not saying she should have been denied complete access or anything, I just think a properly trained caregiver that could "handle" the Mom checking in on a fairly regular basis would have prevented this entire down spiral.
Personally my mom is pretty nuts, and it's not her fault, but it doesn't mean that it still didn't have a negative effect on me. I can't imagine if I had a sibling or some other responsibilities keeping me from escaping her home well before 18.

Omg! I never Thought of the sister being involved. However, I’ve listened To a couple UA-cam channels cover this case And for the first time ever, I believe (even if he is guilty), he never should’ve been convicted. I don’t know how the jury believed that they had enough evidence to conclude without any reasonable doubt that he did it. because like in the video -no DNA and all circumstantial. Even the judge sounded sad handing down the sentence.
Furthermore, I don’t trust the dad/ husband in general. Specially Due to the fact that even though his lawyer seemed pretty confident I believe they could’ve gotten a better lawyer for their son that had tried a murder before. And most suspect to me is out of everything in the house that he could possibly notice missing a 2 x 4 in the garage (picture your garage )I don’t notice certain things in my garage -certainly if I’m looking told to go through my whole house.
It Seems like everything is aligned so perfectly to the prosecution’s way of telling things and then of course at the end the jury gets a curveball because if they can’t prove one extreme they have a middleman and case closed no one else is looking to

The Ex girlfriends testimony had absolutely no credibility whatsoever. It was obvious that she still hadn't gotten over him cheating on her, and did what she could to bury him.
His Lawyer was awful. No competent lawyer would have allowed that testimony to go on without loads of objection. The cross examination was pitiful. She was on the stand giving opinions, which isn't allowed. If it isn't about facts in evidence, it's not relevant. How the lawyer just let her drone on like that had me pulling my hair out.
Guy might be guilty, he might not be guilty. The Prosecution did NOT prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, that's for sure.

I know this young man, I know his family. I have lived in Highland Michigan my whole life. I can honestly say I don't think for 2 seconds that Jeff would have ever done this to his mother. Ruth had a VERY serious case of Bipolar/ Manic depression. I knew her quite well. When she was on her medications her illness was not that obvious. However when she didn't take her medications, she was on 7 medications, she could be very nasty, belligerent, chaotic, and aggressive. I was at the store a week prior to this incident and saw her there, and I can say wholeheartedly that she was not taking her medications as prescribed. She started several arguments with other customers and had to be escorted out of the store that day. I never have believed that Jeff did this to his mom. I think she pissed off the wrong person at the store and she confronted someone who wouldn't let the argument go. It's very sad, the whole situation. I hope that the Pyne family is doing as well as can be expected, and Jeff gets paroled in a few years. He was convicted on circumstantial evidence that to this day, I believe was wrong.

The forensic pathologist Drew psychological conclusions instead of sticking to the evidence. The coworker was presented as an expert witness but could only give his opinion as a blue collar worker. He had ineffective counsel and should get a new trial. His father was right. The presumption of innocence went out the window, and I can tell you when. It was when the prosecutor stuck that girl up there and coached her to cry through her testimony of him lying to her. That was the moment when the jury decided he was a bad guy. He should have a new trial, with a competent lawyer, even if he is guilty. The entire case violated the most basic tenants of our judicial system. The one objection that I heard the defense counsel make, was poorly worded and then dismissed outright.

There are many cases as well where the common sense” should suggest they didn’t commit the crime and we learn they did.

Justice for the victim of course. His DNA was all over the place because he lived there. If he destroyed or hid the weapon, cant get DNA. His injured hands was evidence, he also lied about what he was doing at the time. His reaction to his mothers murder was not normal.

@Robin McInarnay DNA isn't that much use when it's from a family member in a family home. Your DNA will be literally everywhere. Dad probably doesn't have much animosity towards what his son did, as his dad was having an affair and leaving his wife anyhow.

His mother's mental health wore the entire family down.
Jeff's actually crime was being born to a woman whom for sometime understood things, personally, we're not good.
    Killing is hardly a solution.
The sole positive is he didn't marry that tearful cow. Her entire testimony was revenge. He cheated; she dropped him-move on, damn it.

It didn't really even seem like she hated him just that she was very hurt. also i have no idea what her motive would be to frame him lol. I do agree that her testimony shouldn't have been allowed tho, it was clearly just meant as an attack on his character to sort of prove that he isn't as nice of a guy as everyone says he is and that he's capable of lying, but its way too much of a stretch to say that that implies he's capable of murdering his mother. he was just a shitty boyfriend in a pretty mundane way

a lack of evidence doesn't equal resonable doubt, it's not resonable to throw out the existing evidence such as wounds matching the method of attack and you can deduce he was at the home based on lack of alibi. All the existing evidence points towards him being the murderer. Unless they find a forced entry or foreign hairs, stollen goods maybe then there's no reason to suspect it was an outside intruder.

There are indeed plenty of "perfect" families, in the sense of families that get along and live relatively healthy lives. They just aren't typically the families where someone posts a shitload of pictures on instagram or whatever. A lot of people who do that are covering something up or are full of narcissism and a desire for a picture perfect life. But just because THEIR life is a lie, doesn't mean there are no healthy families.

My daughter was graduating from high school the next day and I went, but ended up in the lobby because I cried so hard, just saying, he might just be waiting for it so sink in, or he did it
