I have a lovebird that really doesn’t like hands! He also hates chopsticks so I can’t really manage to target train him. Any tips to help him get over his fear/bond more?
@@Crazynachosyay if you wanna have him not be afraid of chopsticks, you can either put one near his cage or in his cage depending on how afraid of it he is. Treat it as a new toy and introduce it slowly. As for hands, if you can offer a sprig of millet/any treat your bird likes from your hand, gradually making the sprig shorter and shorter, that may work. For my lovebird, I put my hand on the side of his cage for about 5 minutes at a time (he lived in his cage 24/7 at that time because I wasn't super knowledgeable about birds yet--I found myself with an opportunity to get him for free from someone who didn't want another bird and had found him outside of all places, so I took him in)Anyway, his cage was his space so once he wasn't afraid of me existing around him any more, I started introducing my hands as things that brought yummy treats and didn't pose a threat. Replacing food and water in the cage also shows that hands are good. While I definitely don't recommend leaving your bird in the cage 24/7 like I did, those are some things I did. Offer treats from your hands, do some strategic placing of chopsticks, and have patience. Your hands are bigger than him which in the wild would mean danger. It's great that your daughter has the knowledge to work with the birds. Know you are so proud of her. Best part is the birds are coming out of their "shells". Looking forward to seeing how each bird "grows" with your training.
i’m so proud of capri for giving lefty a little bit of confidence, she’s learning from the very best of course though! I personally have no experience with either one of these species, so i’m looking forward to seeing their progress! best of luck from my flock to yours and the project birds!
Hey, you also should give yourself and your husband some credit. You are raising your kid right! She's amazing already. She's empathic so she is naturally an animal lover, she's patient (or, at least more patient than any other six-year-old that I ever knew), she's intuitive, she's actively helping you and not being lazy at all about the lifestyle (supporting you, picking up your slack when you were not feeling well) or a burden to what you are building your career into. She's an awesome kid and that can be contributed to you two, with the animals in support roles in teaching.
I would say Capri is so relaxed with all your birds, and Lefty is picking up on this. Most important Lefty trust Capri, and of course you and Dave. Looks like everyone is off to a really good start. Capri, you are such a great little helper with your mom and of course Lefty. Jamie, I hope you are feeling better soon. Thank you, really enjoyed the update.
I think it awesome how your so involved in being a trainer etc., yet you still are a very involved mom and include your daughter and show her attention as well. Good job mom!
Your daughter is so so sweet with those birds what a wonderful way for her to enjoy birds up close I loved birds when I was little I finally got a cockatiel love her
I hope you're aware just how completely amazing and awesome Capri is? Not only is she just 6 years old but she has taken on board so much of you're training etiquette and is thriving! Honestly, Im amazed how much respect and love she has for these birds...thanks so much for sharing. 😁😁😁
She gets horse lessons each week and her trainer just told me that working with Capri is completely different than other kids because she thinks, "What did I do to miscommunicate to the horse, so that it did _____ instead of _____?" while other kids are like "It's mean! It's not listening to me!" and I thought that was just sooooo cool. 🥰
@@BirdTricks ... that is amazing. And she's only young! Imagine what she'll be like in even just a year's time! Well done to you and Dave for being good parents to both humans and birds!
This reminds me so much of our parrot and how she chose our little girl. My daughter would spend so much time with her, taking her outside for walks, playing with her. She was a little older than your daughter, maybe a couple of years older. Many years have gone by, and now my daughter is in her mid twenties. She lives four hours away. But, when she comes home to visit our parrot goes CRAZY! She's so excited and happy to see her. She also gets excited when she hears us skyping with my daughter. She loves us just fine, but clearly has a favorite. Thanks for the video.
Lefty is so cute and adorable. It makes me want to check out a quaker! And Capri is so cute with him. She isreally amazing with birds and she will always have that gift because of you guys! Happy New Year!
This is the sweetest thing I've ever seen. I just wanna squeeze em both up tight. I tried to tell people that kindness, sweetness, loving & caring relationship's still exist this day and time. It just may come at a bit of a surprise to some folks when it's in the form of a parrot & a 6yr old little girl but if you ask me it's just still more angels in disguise.
Oh I loved this vlog! Capri is a natural with birds! You and Dave have done a great job of teaching her how to be respectful and kind to birds. You can clearly see the bond she has with Lefty. Capri is just a beautiful doll. Love her!
Even MORE proof Lefty chose his human!! 😭 Please don't send that bird back to where it came from!!! You even have an extra cage!!!! Your daughter proved she is trustworthy w/your guidance to have this bird. So proud of you two!!! 🤗
That was beautiful, honest and real. Love Capri's growing relationship with Lefty, and your attitude to the process. Maybe take the fact that you've been sick as a positive that it freed Capri up to learn and engage with these guys. Perhaps it was meant to be. Glad you've got the support to allow this work to happen. All the best with the ongoing work with them, it seems very natural. Xx
OMG, that girl is every mom's wish as a daughter. We see so many young kids of Capri's age nowadays, spoiled and so egocentric that she is a breath of fresh air Good job on your girl both of you. Make her read these posts.
I LOVED this video! It made my heart so big, and warm seeing Capri with Lefty, and Touché, and I do believe Lefty has chosen Capri, GREAT JOB Capri!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
There is a whole swarm of these beautiful birds sleeping in a big tree in front of our house! I love them, they freaked all the pigeons out, so they settled elsewhere! I'm from Germany and life near cologne. Some of them broke out of a zoo and they startet to spread some years ago across the Rhine region! Cute birds!
We get them too in Southern Italy (near Bari), you hear them first and their nests are amazing, like weaved baskets high in the trees. And even though they aren't native they seem to be doing very well, as their numbers seem to be increasing naturally. 😊
Capri looks just like her daddy!! What a cutie! How could she possibly grow up in your house and NOT love birds? Impossible! I’m glad she’s gotten to feel what it’s like to be a birds special person. It’s pretty awesome! Enjoy!
Capri is so much more mature for age than most of the kids out there. She is going to end up being a vet or is going to follow her parents in the future by helping others with their birds. I really want a Quaker parrot, but they have recently been banned from Wisconsin. I hope, when we leave this hellish state, that we will be able to get one or two, or whoever needs to be rescued. That is including those adorable, Elmo sounding, loving Ringnecks!!
And you should be proud of Capri!!!! She is so gentle with the birds, that I can see why they feel save with her! They can probably tell that she is not an adult yet, so they probably drop some of their defenses with her. Loved watching them sample the buffet! I hope that you are feeling better now!
Well Done Capri! You're a great trainer in your own right! Your mommy has taught you well. Lefty can sense that you are a kind person who wants to help him be a happy little bird again after having such a sad life for a while.
Capri is a natural! She has learned through example from you and Dave the fundamentals of how you respect another living thing. Her heart is felt by Lefty. She has connected with him and made him feel safe. Such an example for all of us how providing a safe ,nurturing environment can allow the bird to be his best self! Capri was adorable with Chichi, now she is older and has taken what she experienced with him and applied all she has learned since to benefit this new relationship with Lefty!! You must be SO proud of your daughter and future parrot trainer!! Capri your are AWESOME 👏🏻
What a wonderful experience for you, the birds and your daughter. Children are so open and willing to understand, learn, and share with others (including non-humans). 🦜
Quaker parrots can be very sweet and cuddly and also can be territorial around ‘their’ cages or even stands that they deem to be theirs. I have a female Quaker, named Chubbs. It took a while for her to become braver as she grew up her first year in a bird pet store. When I brought her home, she hid in the corner of her cage for about a month. She didn’t know how to step up because the pet store would pick her up to allow customers to interact with her. She also ‘aaaacked' a lot...the Quaker form of a scream. She had no interest in toys. Luckily she did have a good appetite and took right away to veggie mashes (I use the Circus Diet formula) and healthy pellets with some seed. She had been on an all seed diet. She has blossomed into a fully flighted brave bird who loves toys and her play stand and the freedom to sit and sun or take a short flight around my screened three season room or in our ‘bird room.’ She blows kisses, mimics my laugh, purrs, says good baby, and tries to say her name...in her own language...her aaack, aaaack, aaack is less as we try to replace it with uh-oh and kisses or a very exuberant goooood baaaaby!. I so much enjoyed this video. Kudos to Capri who is growing into such a lovely young girl and budding aviculturist! What a beautiful bond she is building with Lefty...truly sweet! And thank you to Bird Tricks for all of your wonderful content. Truly, you are my 'go to' resource that I can rely on for expert information...I’ve learned so much through your UA-cam videos. I look forward to watching Lefty’s training under Jamieleigh’s and Capri’s tutelage! And to grab some good hints to deal with the inevitable cage territorial trait that seems to be instinctive in Quakers. Oh, and those are forever memories for Capri and Lefty...that cherubic face of your child...priceless!
Sounds like Capri has been chosen by her first bird!😉 I would love to see her be allowed to have Lefty designated as hers, as long as you are ok with that, of course. If she decides to make working with birds her life’s work, the bird world will be very lucky indeed. One day we will see her videos, breaking down bird behavior and helping bird parents all over the world. Capri, the bird whisperer!
However good you are with the birds, I'm happy to see how good you are with your daughter. If I had walked in front of camera, the audience would have seen my mom blow a gasket and come after me! Instead, you involve her in what you're doing to the capacity that she's capable. And, having you and Dave to learn from, it sounds like she's becoming quite capable of not only helping you, but helping the birds also.
I don't normally comment on UA-cam videos but Capri has an unbreakable bond with Lefty and you have to let her keep him. She is such a good girl and deserves her own bird and Lefty needs her.
I enjoyed this video so very much! You have such a sweet and bright little girl! I know by the time I am watching this she has grown up a lot, but still sweet!
I’m so proud of Capri!!! She did such an awesome job with Lefty! This is absolutely adorable! Way to go Capri,...(littlest ‘BirdTricks’ trainer!) This was amazing to watch. Lots of love and hugs from Phoenix, Arizona!!!💖🦜
Hi BirdTricks! I love watching your videos, they are very educational for new parrot owners and for people who are having problems. I’m excited for tomorrow because I’m adopting a green cheek conure from Ronie’s for the love of birds, which is where Lefty and Touché are from! So excited to go pick him up! But thanks for all the advice and tips you give. 💕
Great video. It's awesome that Caprice is on summer break to connect so completely with these birds. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF HER!!! I look forward to seeing how it goes with keeping them cage less. Thanks for the update.

Capri and Lefty forever. Capri is such a precious gift to our world.
Capri is so smart and she seems to have a gift. Oh an I love her name.
Love your videos. Your daughter has your touch and love for birds.
Oh goodnes your daughter looks so happy with these bird it is so sweet
Capri is cute! The Quaker loves her and I think she would love to keep him.
My Ringneck does not like men but she loves me.
your Daughter seems to be a natural. such a cutie.
Just proves no animal is a lost cause. 16 yr old parrot deemed unadoptable yet your little girl can pick him up and hug him. Very touching...
Yes!! Lefty and Touche, that is adorable that your daughter got so close with Lefty
Capri, the bird whisperer!
the apple does not fall far from the tree. Looks like Capri is right there in your footsteps. It's so sweet how Lefty and Capri can form that bond
To sum up the comment section; LET CAPRI KEEP LEFTY!!!
Keep Lefty! They have a bond. So sweet!
I love the little sounds that Quakers make. It sounds like a cartoon character. Capri is already apro. She is such a little doll!
OH MY GOSH!! Your daughter is the best!

I'm hoping that Capri can keep Lefty. They are so cute together
Is she keeping lefty or is Lefty keeping her
@@angeliparraguirre7329 Both, they choose eachother, Lefty trust her with his lill heart.
What a wonderful, compassionate little girl you have! Go Capri! You have to keep him now. ❤
So sweet watching Capri enjoy her work with the birds
Capri is going to be an amazing trainer in a few years!
Amazing how much of a natural Capri is. What an amazing kid!
Oh they have so sweet little voices! ❤
Receiving unconditional love and trust from a new bird/pet is the best feeling in the world. Congrats to Capri on the bond. Best of luck!

It's lovely seeing you being so proud of Capri. She has the best teachers 👌😊
I feel like Lefty loved your daughter right away. Just taking food from her hand in that one video showed that. I love seeing how amazing and sweet she is to the birds.
Capri is a natural! How your face lit up when you were amazed by your daughter and her abilities ❤️ Proud mama☺️ Great job you guys, your dedication makes a difference!
What a huge, wonderful surprise that Lefty is doing so well. There’s always hope for “impossible “ birds. 🕊
