I was surrounded by animals as a kid. Fell off horses, got bitten by loads of different species. Ended up spending 8 years volunteering at a big cat sanctuary and raising lions and tigers! Kids should learn at an early age that animals are not toys but actual living beings with feelings and fears and frustrations. I feel that kids who are taught how to behave around animals are better with empathy later in life.
I was too I was bite by dogs and cats alot I trained a dog that is a "very difficult" breed to train one trick a day obviously not everyday but a trick was set in stone in the day.
100% agreed! It's so important to teach kids that even though they have a pet, they still have to respect their boundaries! Punishing an animal for defending themselves when they're scared when the child is in the wrong will create entitled toxic people too on the other end of that spectrum!
Do you know what,I think that's a good point.i got bit by my aunts boxer in the face.but I was probably doing something annoying that he never liked.think I was 5 or 6.i had to have a few stitches on my face.but it never scared me.i don't even remember it happening so it can't of affected me mentally,if you know what I mean.i love animals & always help them.recently I rescued a crow with a broken leg.love what your doing.
Totally agree Yma Htebazile. My mom is a horse trainer with loads of other animals. I've been around all sorts of exotics from snakes, frogs, and birds to horses, pigs, cats, and dogs. You better believe I have been bit by those pesky horses my mom would warn me not to give treats to because they were still working on taking treats gently. But guess what, I did not and my little finger looked an awful lot like a carrot. Did I heed my mother's warnings after that, you better believe it. Kids learn by experience and consequences. I think animals are the best teachers because as other viewers have mentioned, they teach children empathy and patience for others while also teaching that forcing others to do something does not always get you what you want. Great job Jamieleigh for not only training your child and clients, but other children as well in a safe and controlled environment.
I'm used to seeing Capri interacting with birds so it's not until I had Charlie to compare to that I really started to see just how much Capri understands, there really is a huge difference.
I think it's also a really great example of how much children "work" to impress and please their parents! :) Capri works so hard to impress her mommy and daddy!
Charlie handled that bite like a boss! I know that a lot of kids would have probably been like "nope" after that, but Charlie barley batts an eyelash, and then gets right to training him with you and Capri. And I approve,of how you let her get bit. You assesed the situation, knew the bird wasn't a hard biter, and let it happen so she could learn to respect the bird. LOVED this video!
Shout out to Charlie's mom (I think? Haha) too! How she immediately went "he said no, he doesn't want to be picked up", it's so important to teach kids that animals also have their wants and needs that deserve to be met and respected!! 💕 great video!!
Capri...the next in line to be the world's best bird trainer. ♥️♥️♥️. She is so smart and it shows how much she's learned from you and her Dad. Way to go Capri!!! Super Girl !!!!♥️♥️♥️
Give her a few more years, she'll probably have her own section on the channel - with her own personal bird projects. The more I watch of this, the more I want to get one, but ... I have my doubts; Jamie Leigh says most people shouldn't be keeping birds of any kind and I'm probably one of those people, therefore I don't want to commit one of these wonderful animals to a horrible life (albeit unintentionally). I still enjoy watching Jamie, Capri and Elle though (LiveLaughBirds), among a few others and watching their interactions and training of their beautiful birds.
@@FerDeLance06 I know how you feel. I love them but I can't seem to communicate with them. I had a set of parakeets. I tried to train, but I just got no where. I ended up rehoming them. A very nice lady, that had a few other birds. She was good with them. So I won't be a future owner either. And they're program is great. Jamie gives alot of her time rehabbing and training humans lol. Great big hearts in her family.♥️♥️♥️
I got bit by my grandads budgie and scratched by cats that I wouldn't leave alone, it was my fault and I had to deal with the consequence. Children are made tougher than people give them credit for, think of all the bumps and bruises they get from just playing.
Yea I have budgies(parakeets) and there bites do not feel good.. I'm still working on training then and getting them more time and I have bite Mark's all over my hands 😂😂
I love your niece slowly learning how to be around the parrots. The focus on her face when Lefty was on her arm was so cute. I love how you explained it to her too so she didn't feel rejected by Lefty just that he had to learn she was awesome too. That was a lovely way to put it.
While people will focus on the nibble, I appreciated the way you and Capri provided instructions to empower your niece. She came away with a big grin and bigger sense of accomplishment. With horses and children, I see too many pinpoint on the correction without seeing how the trainer builds on it. You are a born teacher Jaime!
We have a small exoctic bird store in my city called Casa La Parrot. Unfortunately a lot of their birds are kept in cages that are too small but they do have quite a few cageless macaws and other large birds. There was a cockatoo on a perch near the front and my mom, dad, and I went to say hello. The bird put his foot up asking to be held. I could just read it's body language. Where as I could tell with other birds that they just wanted to take a bite of finger dinner. So I talked to my parents about what I learned on this page, about how it's really easy to tell what birds want from the way they communicate.the Cockatoo on the perch ended up taking a small flight to my hand and while I wasn't able to praise it with treats, one of the employees said they had never seen it fly to a stranger before. It was cool to be able to communicate with that bird with everything I learned from this channel.
I find it truly wonderful how much your techniques to raise BOTH birds and children into independent, confident, well-functioning members of your family seem (at least from the outside) to inform one another. Probably a weird comment, but I mean it as the highest possible compliment.
You are a wonderful parent to Capri as well as your niece Charlie. We all have to learn boundaries and to be gentle. Both little girls are super cute and precious!
Lovely video! 😊 I think you did the right thing, we learn by experience and you know that lefty don't bite hard so there's no better way. A good and realistic way to teach a child. 👍
I am going to be sad when they havdd to say goodbye to each other......unless they don't have to say good bye? Any chance capris and Lefty are going to stay together?

Totally enjoyed this video, and didn't want it to end. I loved the way you talk to Capri and Charlie, and how you encourage them just enough to soldier on even through a scary moment. Your a mom, friend and teacher, (what a great combo). I agree that personal experience is the best teacher, and Charlie learned an important lesson today. Thank you for helping my day get off to a good start.
BAHAHAHAHAHA Capri's logic right at the end. that was amazing xD Also, really great job with Charlie, and from Charlie too! learning the consequences of an action is an important thing, and with just a little help she was able to get right back to it. the still shot at the end; looks like she managed to make friends with Lefty after all? Great for both of them :D
Perfectly done! I'm so glad you let her experience both sides of the coin because training any animal is hard work and comes with bad moments as well as delight!
Carpi and Lefty are adorable. That pic of Charlie and Lefty says it all. She still loves him and didn't mind the little nip at all. My nieces and nephews have been bitten by a few critters over the years. They quickly learned how and when to handle them. One typical response it, "You told me not to do that, now I know why." What's a little pinch of a bite? Kids hurt each other more rough housing.
I'm so new to this channel but I do see how bonded you're little one is with that Quaker I'm praying you guys can keep him for her that would be so great! I have a Quaker as well but he's blue that I want to start training I've had for almost 4 years now and I just rescued an umbrella cockatoo from a terrible situation about three weeks ago I searched some videos to help me learn more as I feel like all the research I've done is never enough I'm so grateful I found you're channel
My Budgie never wanted to be near me when I got him. But now he want's to be sitting on me every chance he gets! He comes when called, and sometimes it can be overwhelming when trying to do things. But I Luv the little chicken and play with him daily. I never used treats or clickers, just speech to train him. He can get a bit randy sometimes though. I Luv the blue and yellow little chicken. He sometime nips at my fingers if I tell him off for being amourous with my hand, but he doesn't do any damge.
There is nothing I love more than watching capri train with the birds. She is so knowledgeable and you guys have taught her so well! I am a dog trainer and so many people just let their kids treat animals like they are toys but Capri understands the birds so well! Any time I am having a bad day or I am in a bad mood I find a video of Capri working with the birds and it always makes me smile!
My parents raised me on a ranch and had me around all types of animals growing up my entire life and I look back on that so fondly. I hope you know what I wonderful foundation you're teaching/providing for your daughter because connecting to animals I believe is one way of staying connected to the earth and how life works (not to mention that it gives kids an early explanation of what death is and happens to all things eventually). I have such fond memories of my parents teaching me about different animals and I can see you're doing just that for your daughter and it's awesome :] love your channel and everything youre doing, keep it up!
We have had a flock of wild, black hooded parakeets, (according to my bird book)for the 1st time, in 4years, here in Central Florida. They are similar in size to your two parrots. It's been so much fun to have a camera with zoom lense this year, to photograph them from afar. Your daughter and her friend, remind me of my daughter, at their age. (She's grown up now, and out of state. Also we didn't ever have birds) I hope to have a bird in the future. I enjoy learning along with your excellent, practical, kind, humourous videos. Thank you very much.
I remember having one of those when I was younger, my dad works for the city of Clearwater and he had to take down some pole and it had a nest of them in it. We kept one, and named him Rio. He was a wonderful lil guy, but ended up somehow getting rope tied up around his wing from a rope toy we bought him, and I have no idea how it happened, but it somehow killed him :(
@@nascr7015 Condolances for your little bird. At least you now know what type of toy isn't safe. It's interesting about the birds nest in the pole. Because of observing the large flock of parakeets, with my zoom lense camera, I could see a tall pole in distance from my back yard. The birds would perch on the wire and I noticed, a few going into a hole near the top of pole, occasionally. After the main flock migrated farther away, three of them stayed in the neighborhood and would call out, every time they flew back and forth, over my yard. Then falcons or hawks nested in the pole. I started to see two fluffy young ones perched on the wire, with parent going to and from the hole. Actually there are at least 3 holes near the top. After young ones grew and flew away, I noticed two parakeets returned, going to and from the nesting area. I am sometimes watching in early morning or evening, to see what happens. They are so cute. These lovely green parakeets really sparked my enjoyment of birdwatching in general. A lake is a few blocks away, and some undeveloped acres of land. So we get a variety of bird visitors throughout the year. I always have a bird feeder that attracts cardinals, etc.I looked up food for wild parakeets/parrots, but have not put food out. Not very practical during the rainy season, etc. Hope your future with birds is happy :)
20:14. I agree. She was quite brave and does show that Left was "nice" when more "forcibly" saying no. It was also fun watching you work with her and Lefty at the same time. Thanks Charlie for participating with Lefty.
Your daughter is cute as she can be and so smart! I just love watching her work with the birds and talk and explain things. She reminds me of my granddaughter who is 6 yrs old and very smart. Kids are so smart today. God bless Capri’s little heart ❤️ Jean from Arizona ☀️🌵🦎😊🦂🏜🌴
I personally had a lot of trouble with pushing animals to do what I wanted as a kid, (sometimes to this day, although I'm practicing not to) so I think this video is good. My parents always protected me from our birds/pets, and never let me get bit, and I think I would've been a lot less pushy if they would have let me learn that it isn't okay. I learn a lot easier from experience, so it would have helped a lot (which this sounds weird) if I was bit by the birds as a kid.
I'm a lot better with animal training, and respecting their boundaries. I wish my parents would have known this much about animals, so I could have been better with animals at an earlier age. Btw, I was never bad with animals or anything, I just have some trouble being a bit pushy. I love animals, and I work really hard to understand them, I mostly grew up with dogs though, and they're a lot more mellow when it comes to being told what to do.
Capri is so smart! I love how she is very protective of them, and was not shy to kindly step up to an adult and be their voice. My favorite part is when she gives up and just places the bird on her cousin 😂. I appreciate that you as an adult was willing to teach another child how to treat them with respect. Lots of patience too! Thank you.
You allowed the right thing to happen to Charlie in order for her to learn, no harm in that. You did not leave the girls you were right there with them. You understand your birds better than anyone and you knew what the possibilities of what Lefty may do based on the birds behavior. Children must learn and you were the right person to teach and train the girls in that situation. They live with these beautiful birds and kids are naturally drawn in most cases to want to be apart of the any animals life. You create a safe environment for them to do that.
I love is such a lovelu little witty girl. She is so cute & smart. She already shows so much talent and understanding of the birds. It is funny how she's like "pff i know"-ing at you. I think it is awesome how you parent like that. Too much shielding, "resqueing" & clearing pathways for kids will not learn them how to deal with any form of resistence or set back. Respect for all of you guys how you manage such busy life, business, animalcare & parenting.
Well done Charlie for keeping going and finding out that Lefty just bit coz u scared him and he can learn to trust u when u are still, quiet and give him time.
Such cuteness! And kids need to learn consequences, there is a noticeable difference in people who were taught those lessons as kids, and those who weren't. Good luck with Lefty, he's really bonded with Capri.
I think you should get a treat Jamie lol. To train and have the patience required for any bird, but to hold the attention span of children as well, and being the mom of 2 daughters I found girls to be a little more flighty, " pun intended 😘". Seriously though how cute are these cousins dressed the same. Really special to have cousins the same age, as my girls did also. I friendship to last a lifetime of special times in their lives 🥳🦄🐔🦜. Once again capri is so adorable with " I want to marry him👰🧚♀️💝". Cant get any sweeter then that. Thx for sharing.
As long as she wasn't seriously injured (I know bites hurt!) I think it's okay! I think it's not only a lesson in learning boundaries for animals but for people too.
You did the right thing by letting Charlie experience what would happen without someone showing her. I know you knew the bird wouldn't bit her hard and just a little scare now will help her from a Big Bite by a Big Bird that would hurt. Great job girls! They are just too adorable!
Can't believe how cute and smart Capri is!!! She will be sooo good in the future. I 100% trusted every word she said bc how confident she was haha! so sweet.
What a wonderful video! watching Capri and Charlie learn was just as fascinating as watching Lefty learn - the girls are an incredible age for soaking up knowledge, and it was engrossing to see Charlie engaging so intelligently and adaptively in the training process. I love her too, now. Could we see more of the two girls learning how to train? BTW, when I hear Capri speaking about training 2:51, I hear Dave - his intonation, his phrasing, his gestures and body language. Capri misses nothing. You two together, Jamie-Leigh and Dave, are doing a great job.
Capri is wonderful with how well she copies you, its wonderful to see how bonded they are. Totally with you on the learing curve about letting the bird 'explain boundery invasion' to her. Its not like it was a Macaw bite like you say and better she learns that in this way than with a bigger bird or a dog. The shock factor of the bite today was likely to be just as impactful on her memory as a bigger consequence might have been and sure she will look to learn more rather than piling it. Animals have feelings and needs too, ask too much and NO means no for them too.
Teaching children respect and empathy for animals and people is crucial imo, my daughter learned early, and she really respect all beings - so it actually made her emotionally smarter. I think you also chose the right bird and moment to not interrupt, but Charlie learned so I think you did the right thing.
I agree totally with you. I also never doubted that you wouldn't let the bird be unprotected from an inexperienced handler. You are great on both counts.
I think its so cute how Capri kinda jumped in front of Lefty when Charlie was moving her hand towards him, saying “he doesn’t want to” in reference to picking him up. Their relationship is so adorable.
UA-cam told me to watch your first day with morgan...after seeing that episode i thought :”she knows what she is doing” and after seeing this episode you not only know how to train birds but you also know how to train humans! The best lessons learned come in three ways: 1 the profit way.. reward what is good. 2 the hard way ..face the consequences of your mistakes. 3. Learn from others lessons 1 and 2! You Made your Niece better prepared for life ! Well done!
I totally agree with the let children learn consequences. We have raised our children too the same way within reason. I think you are wonderful. You have so much passion for your animals and even though i dont have birds anymore, i still love watching your whole family work with them. Its awesome.
I’m so glad you got Lefty and Touché together...they seem like they enjoy each other’s company! Your daughter is so professional with Lefty!! She has learned so much from you, for sure!! Great 👍 Video!
Lefty is such a gentle bird, and so good with kids! He knows how to clearly communicate what he's thinking and feeling and even when he bites, he's super gentle and makes sure he's not seriously hurting anybody. What a good boy
I think it's really amazing how well capri (sorry if spelled wrong) understands birds for her age. Also I bet your a great mum since you two love birds and have something to do togehter
Constructive & interesting video! Agree 100% with you the importance for children (and adults) understanding cause and consequence + stopping unwanted behaviours as soon as possible. You're a great trainer of humans too btw :-D

Maybe it was more about lefty seeing more birds lol
She’s such a sweet kid! It’s so cool to see her interacting with the birds.
I like that she whispered so as not to scare the bird outside!

I think natural consequences in a controlled environment is excellent learning for children.

Oh lefty is just so cute! Seeing capris friendship with lefty is just wayyyyyyyyyyyyy way wayyyyyyy too sweet. I love Quaker parrots!!!
Oh my goodness! Capri is so adorable and articulate!!! Just such a little gem! And the cousin time was SO precious!! Cousins are the best!! 😍
I'm amazed at how you are able to train a bird and two kids at the same time O.O
If anyone isn't getting 'jackpot reward,' let Capri try to explain. She's got it down!
Capri is doing such an awesome job!! So glad this worked out to help Lefty and Touche!
Congratulations on the huge strides you’ve made with your budgie .
My son is a 1/4 Chickasaw and he says our budgie's native name is Chicken Wing 😁
There is nothing I love more than watching capri train with the birds. She is so knowledgeable and you guys have taught her so well! I am a dog trainer and so many people just let their kids treat animals like they are toys but Capri understands the birds so well! Any time I am having a bad day or I am in a bad mood I find a video of Capri working with the birds and it always makes me smile!
its the way of learning with birds , I think you did the right thing, now your niece will know and understand more, great video :)
It is a treat to see both of these darling little girls!
“I wanna marry him. What? He’s a boy!“ How cute are both of the kids? Keep up the good work! Love your videos & how well you care for them.🙂🐦💕
We have had a flock of wild, black hooded parakeets, (according to my bird book)for the 1st time, in 4years, here in Central Florida.
@@sadhanakk3769 aww thank you
capri is so adorable and the love she has for the birds is great glad to see her cousin wasnt scared after she got bit way to go....
I think you showed exceptional wisdom in that situation and your reasons are sound. There is no substitute for actual experience.
Thank you.
Train Lefty extra special since he is to be your bird in law. LOL So cute Capri. Gotta love the innocence of children.
Omg, that was awesome! Would love to see more training with Lefty!
Your little niece did so good, when you said you have to be still and quiet she tried very hard to do just what she was told, nice job Charlie,
I think you should get a treat Jamie lol.
I would have let her get bit. I seen it coming. Does no good to let them not have consequences. Capri is great with him!!
You've done some great video editing here.
(And OMG your daughter is so damn precious with how she interacts with the birds).
Your daughter is so adorable! It looks like she’s following in your footsteps! Good job! 👍
I absolutely agree. In fact, it bothers me that you feel you have to explain yourself!
Capri already knows so much at such a young age, that's so nice how you're teaching her so she'll know how to act later on in life.
I totally agree with you! That’s good parenting for kids to learn as they go along later in life!
I agree totally with you. I also never doubted that you wouldn't let the bird be unprotected from an inexperienced handler. You are great on both counts.
That shot of Charlie and Lefty is precious. You need to print that out. One of those precious family photos/memories.
Oh my gosh Capri is the absolute cutest! She is SO good with Lefty and it warms my heart 😭
Capri is just chillin and drinking a smoothie!! HEALTHY!!
I think its so cute how Capri kinda jumped in front of Lefty when Charlie was moving her hand towards him, saying “he doesn’t want to” in reference to picking him up. Their relationship is so adorable.
She is really smart!! Both of my daughters were super smart at that age, they are 15 and 17 now... High Drama.. Good Luck 🐦🦚🦜
Your niece is so cute she reminds me of myself when I was little. You're such a good teacher for the kiddos!
Well done!
Capri is adorable!! What a great little trainer!!
You do so well teaching your neices how to train parrots. Great job. Fun to watch.
Charming children. Human and bird. Good job mum ♥️
I totally agree with the let children learn consequences. We have raised our children too the same way within reason. I think you are wonderful. You have so much passion for your animals and even though i dont have birds anymore, i still love watching your whole family work with them. Its awesome.
You are an excellent mother, teacher, and trainer!
I’m so glad you got Lefty and Touché together...they seem like they enjoy each other’s company!
Your daughter is so professional with Lefty!! She has learned so much from you, for sure!! Great 👍 Video!
I love your daughter🥰 it’s a robin. “I know”😂 she’s so good with the birds!
Her cuteness is too much!
You have a beautiful family! Thanks for training humans how to communicate with our birds.
Oh my she’s too cute! I don’t even have birds anymore, I just enjoy watching your videos
Lefty is such a gentle bird, and so good with kids! He knows how to clearly communicate what he's thinking and feeling and even when he bites, he's super gentle and makes sure he's not seriously hurting anybody. What a good boy
we need to start a petition to keep lefty capri worked so hard to tame him.. she deserves this!
I think it's really amazing how well capri (sorry if spelled wrong) understands birds for her age. Also I bet your a great mum since you two love birds and have something to do togehter
Lefty is adorable, and Capri is such a little star with him.
Constructive & interesting video! Agree 100% with you the importance for children (and adults) understanding cause and consequence + stopping unwanted behaviours as soon as possible. You're a great trainer of humans too btw :-D
