I know. It guts me every time. I want to find the so called doctors who did this to him with the steroids and botched surgeries and expose them to the world for what they have done.
That's true. Steroids destroyed Phil, also badly performed surgery on the spine. However, there was one more thing, alcohol. it was the moment of the greatest fall of this great artist.
He’s such a nice man, what a legend he is himself. He’s played on so many iconic albums and songs, played with so many great artists. You throw on a concert and you’ll see Leland there playing, always good to see
Leland is one of the kindest, gentlest, selfless people around - the videos he posts on his own channel (which he started during the 2020 lockdowns) are fantastic. You can also tell how much he absolutely loves music and is fully riveted onto every note.
Unfortunately I didn't realize all this about him until the last couple of years. I just seen him as that strange looking old bearded guy. Then I grew up and took notice and became a big fan. I feel stupid for my ignorance before, but now I know better. He has such a huge list of artists he has played with and I'm so grateful for his channel now.
Even if Phil's son Nick has 1/10th the talent his father has, he will live a very successful life and career. Thanks Phil for being my drum hero my entire life. You are a living legend!
Nic is a fantastic drummer, every bit as good as his dad. The problem is, Phil literally created the modern drum sound, so unless Nic can come up with something as unique as "gated reverb" he is always going to be in his father's shadow. I'm not saying he won't, but it's a huge fence to leap.
This guy played on literally hundreds and hundreds of albums, a walking studio bass player. I mean jeeez, in and out of recording sessions and now he's touring with Toto? Speechless. Bravo!
He play for is other band Brand X also for Steve Hackett his anciens Genesis guitar Friend and also for Mike Oldfield and make an impressive solo carrier side by side with his Genesis band matte it's highly impressive that some people think is just a talented pop singer and not a highly skill drummer ...
Met Leland briefly in 1985 outside Madison Square Garden. A very nice, genuine guy. Met Phil once or twice too. Also a very nice, decent and down to earth bloke.
Whatever Phil’s differences are, it’s extremely disrespectful to speak on the people he’s spent a lifetime with in his career without even mentioning the name Chester Thompson. It would be better if didn’t give any names at all. In so many of his shows on both the solo & Genesis tours, he never failed to call Chester “the backbone”. It’s pretty insulting to fans, his band, and even to himself to pretend like the man never existed.
Yep 💯, although listening to Chester it doesnt sound like Phil’s the type of guy to make such a call, less so as time goes by. I guess perhaps he doesnt want to lose face in some way, which is just a sad way to be. That partnership was one of the most extraordinary in rock musicianship.
I'm totally unaware of any issues between Chester and Phil, though I was wondering and waiting for when Phil would also mention Chester but never did? What's behind this all?
Phil Collins has and always be my best musician ever great talent I came to the united state in 1980 I didn't know a word of English but when I first heard Phil Collins that was the greatest music I enjoyed from that day on I wanted to know every song he made plus on top of that hearing genesis just amazing music
Leland is one of the most selfless people you'll ever meet. Very kind and generous. A very talented bassist. Definitely one in 1 million just like Phil. I don't know where I'd be today without his music in my life.
Two immensely talented people who are genuinely decent guys, so happy that I have been able to see them perform together, a wonderful legacy regardless of what the future holds for them. I agree that music is supposed to be fun, though when I look at how it has helped me through some of the tough times that we all face, it seems to be much more. God Bless Phil and Leland!
Saw them together with Nick at the drums in Toronto a couple of years ago. Phil sat on a chair for the entire show performing for 2.5 hours...! What a night.
These two highly talented people have written music history in their lives. I was very lucky to be able to experience Phil, Lennard and the band live in Cologne in 2019, and it was definitely the best concert of my life. The impact of their music is omnipresent and will live on forever from generation to generation... The music world without such great true artists would be lost and would never be the same. ... and what's most important: Both are incredibly likeable, down-to-earth people ... A virtue that you hardly find in music greats these days 😊
Lee is a great example of a complete professional, a lot of charisma and he does his work with a lot of dedication and love... remembering the genius of Phil Collins music is remembering Lee and other refined musicians who did that knew how to interpret the exact feeling. This lovely man who has had so many demons in his own life forever gives positive vibes to his true close friends. I'm so very glad my daughter has taken my vinyl collection over and spins the vinyl now for future generations. Phil is a legend, a genius. Genesis is a masterpiece band, a pearl that only people who listen to the essence of good music knows. God bless you Sir Collins with longer days on this earth.
Hi Leland. I remember seeing you and Phil at Popular Creek, Illinois in 1984 for the first time which would be my very first concert to attend. I had lawn seats and was in awe of Phil and a bass player who I would regard as "Doc." I was 17 years old and now at age 56, I still remember that magical night of great music and musicians! If you should ever see Phil again, please remember me and give him a hug. I love you too more I can convey into words!!!
Phil, It's very late here in Milwaukee. I was awakened from pain. So, that got me to thinking how in the hell are you feeling? Is it nice to.know you don't have to rush to something on any given day? How is your back & neck feeling? Yes, you've had the best surgeons tell you this & that, but are you really doing? I know the pain is wearing on you, as it is on me. I hope you are enjoying each day. Phil Collins is legend. So is Sklar. I follow Sklar on his youtube channel... what an awesome human being, and of course legendary bassist. He has played with just about every big name on earth.
Phil is the best. He can be very deep, delivering it with humor. It's supposed to be fun = don't take yourselves too seriously, I certainly don't. My favorite drummer by a long shot. I don't care who is "the best". Leland? He obvously loves Phil for the right reasons. The seasoned wise old guys, who didn't become bitter by the harsh setbacks of life. They still teach about friendship and gratefulness with every word they say.
Always makes me smile😊Really can feel the deep truth every time phil talks about his way of living. Honest, a deep love for the music. I will always stand behind him and his people around him.with much love❤
This man’s music and talent ( and incredible sense of humor) has meant more to me in my entire life than any other artist. Good times and bad… he was there.
Call me a late bloomer. I have just been so drawn to devouring your music videos. I love and pray for you both. You have been blessed with such a great gift that has touched many lives.
Lee and Phil are legends, as someone who grew up in the sixties and seventies we grew up in the best time for music, rock, jazz,Motown, country, fusion disco, we had it all, I always loved Phil Collins and Genesis I saw them at the garden one of the best live shows I ever saw, just amazing
Cheers to these two living legends. Thank you for having fun with music and sharing it with the whole world. Phil's voice and music is such a cherished part of my life.
Phil... your music was and still is the most influential of my life ....period. Timeless, emotional, heartfelt, genius. Luv u man. Thank you for all you have givin us, including Buster.
Saw Phil in 2019 in Cleveland, Ohio - and my wife, who was in Radio for many years and is a great and knowledgeable music fan, told me it was the greatest concert she had ever attended. It was truly great. Phil's son Nick on the drum kit, but Phil was still able to kill the vocals and play some great Cajon!!! I am so glad we saw him on that last tour. He has always been one of my favorite musicians. We love him! Rv & Lv
Phil is truly a class of his own. His voice his music is so distinct. You could recognise his voice instantly. This guy also outperforms his recorded songs by singing live
Precious moments with precious people, As Phil said, playing a long time with these musicians who become friends, great music made together, that's impacting the hearts of generations. From Genesis to His Solo career, Phil Collins became what He never thought possible. The road he found himself on in the early days led to these moments, looking back saying ...Wow!
This is my going into the crematorium, I hope they play it loud so I can hear it before , IM IN THE AIR TONIGHT , bless you all for such wonderful music XX
True. I'm 23 so by the time I was born Phil's chart run was pretty much over, but if you ask me Another Day In Paradise still sounds absolutely minty fresh today, nearly 35 years after its release!
You just got accustomed to hearing a Collins song on the radio all through the 80's and 90's. I lost track of if he was with Genesis or solo or with Genesis again, it didn't matter. The absolute iconic hits just kept coming to soundtrack all our growing-up years.
Love Phil Collins ever since I heard Genesis back in 1982 ( as a 7yo ) where our school teacher of that year played them as part of a music studies education, brown owl school upper hutt new zealand. One thing - I tripped over Simon Collins, whose music is quite different but also not dissimilar in certain ways and you can definitely hear Phils voice in Simon's music.
I first saw Phil in 1985, Albert Hall, London. It was his Hot Tub Club with Leland, and they were great. Leland has this amazing beard, I was high up near the ceiling, and the vibration through the building was scary because everyone was dancing. Amazing night. Thanks, guys!
Love you man, wish I could give you a few sessions to help you get back on your feet again… just love the music videos that can be found on line. Lee is a dear spirit and it’s inspiring…
Love ya Phil you gave this world a life of music and brilliant performances I will always remember, keep going as long as God will keep you here your voice never fails.
Face Value, No Jacket Required, But Seriously, Invisble Touch and Both Sides ... big part of the soundtrack to my teens and early manhood - TY so much, Phil 🙂
I'm 41 years old and I remember discovering Phil Collins / Genesis when I was around 10 years old in the early 90s and the songs instantly became some of my all time favorites. Haven't stopped listening since. Every Playlist I've ever made from back when I used to make mix tapes, to burning mix CDs from songs I bought online to now my UA-cam Playlist, they all have always included a bunch of Phil's & Genesis' songs.
Grew up listening to Phil's music and from Genesis back in the 80s.Sad to see Phil in his condition now and that he's up in age 😢.He's such a great music legend always will be 👏.
Thank you so much for this. Having grown up with the music of Genesis and Phil Collins, so many songs bring back the best memories. Some, like carpet crawlers now make me laugh because I was always so moved by it but have no clue still what it means. I only recently learned about Phil’s journey through documentaries like this one and have gained so much respect for him as a human being. For someone who has given so much happiness to so many, I sincerely wish him all that happiness in return. Bless you Phil, and know we are still listening and getting the feels from your music!
Leland- this man has looked 80 for 40 years but there is so much youth in his voice and eyes.
i agree...i could never figure out, why he went with the homeless-man look all these years...all he's missing is long finger-nails...
I know, look how lean and spry he moves when he sits down next to Phill.... this is no old man, this is one of the great players in history...
He's 77 now but is still like the Energizer Bunny, constantly on the road (for the last few years with Lyle Lovett) or in the studio.
Maybe that's next@@Kane-ib5sn
Maybe that's next@@Kane-ib5sn
It really pains me to see the shape Phil is in right now. I can't imagine my teens without his music. So glad to be alive in the 80s
I know. It guts me every time. I want to find the so called doctors who did this to him with the steroids and botched surgeries and expose them to the world for what they have done.
@kaveman1021 give them the same botched surgery would satisfy me. I have a bad back myself I know how it feels personally.
That's true. Steroids destroyed Phil, also badly performed surgery on the spine. However, there was one more thing, alcohol. it was the moment of the greatest fall of this great artist.
Phil got me thru life with his music❤️

Actually he's highly political and pretty controversial not to mention egotistical.
Did he sack Chester?
Even if Phil's son Nick has 1/10th the talent his father has, he will live a very successful life and career. Thanks Phil for being my drum hero my entire life. You are a living legend!

Phil Thanks For Great Memories
Thank you so much for this. Having grown up with the music of Genesis and Phil Collins, so many songs bring back the best memories. Some, like carpet crawlers now make me laugh because I was always so moved by it but have no clue still what it means. I only recently learned about Phil’s journey through documentaries like this one and have gained so much respect for him as a human being. For someone who has given so much happiness to so many, I sincerely wish him all that happiness in return. Bless you Phil, and know we are still listening and getting the feels from your music!
