Honestly, instead of ice dice for Christmas, you could try to use the swirling glitter orbs but fill them with water and larger white glitter for some snoglobe dice?
"Creators like you and I" Me, who is definitely not a creator and watches these videos just because I really like dice but will never ever make a set on my own. "Yeah, you and I!"

I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”
These dice are adorable, although most of the lemonade I'm used to is lighter and cloudy. But they get the vibe across. :) BTW: the fruits are made of Fimo or similar, which is a polymer clay, not foam. So they're clay fruits, less alliterative, more accurate. 😉
Had you considered adding the “ice” in a second partial pour and then covering it with a final pour? That way they could “float” a bit yet still be contained? You could wait till the second layer had started to thicken before adding the “ice” if you wanted precise placement. Of course, matching the resin color gets tricky with a third pour.
That's not a bad idea, just simply doing 3 pours - The only issue is then it can float to the sides which would ruin the dice if silicone sticks to an edge :(
I was thinking along the same lines with the restrain it with resin, was leaning more towards a UV cure resin drop if it matches the epoxy used enough visually. Though I also wondered if putting a deliberate void/pattern into the resin die chunk and then dripping fresh clear silicon into it could work - it would then suction in really well to the texture of that die chunk and as silicon sticks to itself (at least without mould release) really really well you can drop your chopped up crushed ice silicon on top of those now filled voids. So this might be a job for a vacuum casting system - pull all the air out of the mixed resin before you do that first pour, then deliberately introduce bubble or textures to the top face of that cast afterwards for the little silicon drips to be dripped into - shouldn't matter much if its really quite bad on the top, your next resin pour will be so close in refractive index and the voids hopefully small enough that its just softening the colour to clear resin transition a bit.
@@foldionepapyrus3441 Even if the UV resin doesn't stick to the silicone well, you could potentially encase the silicone chunk all the way in UV resin. I bet that would hold it down.
@@Rybonator Or put the ice in as part of the first pour? Hopefully they wouldn't move if you can place them in the middle, and they'd already be on top?

Hi Rybonator! Its really cool to see you experimenting with these kind of ideas! After figuring out my pressure pot and mold, I finally got to pouring my dice! They came out pretty good but had a few voids, flashing, and the mold started to deteriorate because I forgot to cast my cap in the pot. Have overall decided that Etsy molds are high quality and relatively affordable, do you think there's anything specifically that I should look for? (leaning cap or cap-sprue)
I have been going for more cap molds lately, as they allow for easy inclusions like this :) Sprue however are far more beginner friendly, if you are willing to do the small bit of extra clean up. I think either is fine, but if you plan on doing a lot of inclusions, go cap :)
could use a dab of uv resin to get stuff to stick! also if you reverse the order you dont have to get the stuff to stay down at all, itll float the appropriate stop
I made some giant iced americano dice for my DM. I used a silicone miniature ice cube tray to cast resin ice cubes - they were half clear, and half barely tinted white resin slightly swirled so that they would show up in the dice really well. Then I stuffed my molds once the ice cubes had cured, and poured in resin that was half colored to look like really dark coffee, and the other half clear (since an americano is espresso added to water). I hoped the resin ice cubes would help alleviate any balance issues since in theory they would be the same density as the rest of the dice. 😊 They came out good, certainly not perfect, but my DM loves them! Also: Thank you for all your videos and tutorials! You’re my go-to for learning to make dice molds and dice. 😊

I use sea salt (the kind used for making scented bathing salts) for ice effects in my resin jewelry and stuff. It sinks, and stays white. I wish I could post a pic of it, but I love it with clear resin.

idea: you could fill the molds with the lemonade part first and then do the clear part. counteracts the surface tension problem because this time it's the right way around, and you wouldn't have to find a working glue anymore because the pieces would be allowed to float up. essentially, just reverse the gravity.
AHH, why wouldn't you make these in summer? BTW I'm really thankful to you, I followed your instructions on one video and now I know how to make dice and made some, thanks!

You're so freaking talented omggg. You should try to do a blueberry lemonade set at one point! If you can just find some super small blue/purple beads would look perfect t as blueberries!
Beautiful! I think that lighter yellow for the numbers really helped to tie the whole scheme together! To what you mentioned about pouring the yellow "lemonade" section first, it sounds like that could also fix your floating ice issue. As the fimo slices and silicon would sit/float atop the yellow section and then be cured within the first pour. Then just pour the clear part atop that. Either way, these dice look wonderful, always a pleasure to see your videos~ Edit: Oops! Just saw some others had the same idea, haha such is the way of the internet
The white from the superglue is usually acrylic that was in vapor form (along with the solvent) and then settled after the solvent evaporated. You can usually avoid most of it If you keep just a little bit of air moving over the surface while it cures.
Hey Rybonator! Thanks so much for sharing your creativity with all of us. It's super inspiring and I've even started making dice now too! I saw in an older vid of yours that you tried using a pottery wheel as a sanding surface but that it's pretty massive lol I actually got a tiny pottery wheel (literally fits in the palm of your hand) on Amazon for like $20 and was able to use that for my dice polishing instead. It works great! Just wanted to let you know in case you'd like to try it too ^_^
Those fruit slice thingies are made of polymer clay, an oven bake clay. They are made the same way old fashioned candy is where you roll a log with patterns since slice after bake.
The other benefit of pouring the "lemonade" part first (aside from the correct surface tension direction) is that the inclusions can float and break the surface of the lemonade as real ice and lemons do, but also maybe be partially submerged and therefore stuck down without glue at all. You could maybe consider curing a drop of the resin first on top of the inclusions without putting them in the dice, to weigh them down into the resin within the dice later. LOVE your stuff, and some day when I have a living space that is large enough to section part off for projects and ventilate properly I want to follow some of your experiments!
Yes I do get that - The main way to stop that is to cast it while the first layer is still in a jelly like consistency (maybe an hour after the mixing stage is done). This will help some of the new resin blend with the old :) But it's a tricky dance not to reintroduce bubbles
@@Rybonator For easier fake ice that can stick better if you can find broken safety glass it looks pretty similar to ice once in resin and you can try and use UV resin instead of superglue.
for making balanced dice with more ice, what about using a second resin cast that’s opaque white, maybe with liquid glitter made from the part that washed off, with a little regular liquid glitter too for some sparkle. maybe one layer that’s more opaque that you paint on the walls of the mold, plus some broken up bits to look like cracks in the ice, and a more transparent part that fills it up. or maybe just do that for the whole dice and make them look like ice cubes
You could pour a thin middle layer of resin to hold the silicone in. It's okay if it floats, because the set resin will hold it down anyway, and you'll still have more resin to cover it with in the final layer
a whole set of mixed citrus fruit would be to die for - could do a sort of ombre fade from yellow to red/pink, with the lemons, oranges, and grapefruit slices all scattered throughout.
you could use the silicone's preference to float to accomplish their placement without glue or any kind of adhesive. just add them on top of the first layer of resin before you put them in the pressure pot.
you could try rubber cement for a slightly tacky glue/stuff that should dry clear-ish, not entirely sure how clear. if you really want to stick things together brush both sides and let it dry a bit then stick them together, it bonds more somehow but you can't really move it at all so get it right the first time.
Love your dice ideas and can't wait for the ice dice. I started researching how to make my own for my dnd group for Christmas and i can't wait to start!
I would suggest trying Smooth-On SIL-Poxy Silicone Adhesive. I have only used it to glue silicone to silicone but it is supposed to also allow you to glue silicone to other things.
I have a suggestion for the holding of the foam bits and silicone. If you want to do it the method that you did in the video you could simply use UV resin to hold it down you could even color it the way you would color the lemonade portion. Another option is to do the reverse do the lemonade first and simply drop the bits in when the resin is slightly cured and solid enough to hold the bits from falling completely through but it sinking into the yellow resin might make it look more realistic and warp it like the clear resin did
Woooo, they look suuuuper cool!!!! (Haha, a cool lemonade). I was playing Divinity original sin, which I think might be based on DnD, and as always using a wizard. But they are like, super focused on water/ice skills!! So, I'm just imagining this fake ice to make frost wizards dice, that could be awesome! I really enjoy your work, keep it up!! 💜💜
What if you used clear silicone caulking, since the only thing that really sticks to silicone is... silicone. They make little tubes for repairs rvs and stuff
Those look and sound really good. If the super glue works like the Loctite I use with my miniatures you can use a tooth pick to apply the glue so that you don't get extra glue. I know too much glue has been the cause of some of my failures as it will either alter color or cause a foggy texture on things.
You could stick the silicone/lemons in your resin while it's tacky so then when it cures it won't move and when you pour your next layer of resin it won't go anywhere as it's in the other layer as it cured
Rybonator, you get an extra thumbs up for the Bob Ross shout out.....who do NOT like watching Bob Ross paint....so peaceful, so tranquil, great way to unwind at the end of a stressful day at school or work
Could you make some Ooze dice? I have a character thats part ooze and I can’t quite figure out how to make them. I was thinking of there was a way to combine Petri dish method and the lord of the rings method. Thanks a bunch for the awesome videos!
This was a really fun project! I like the ideaof pouring the lemonade part first next time - maybe you wouldn't even need super glue? You could float the foam and silicone on the drink part and it might even look better if the "ice" dips down into the yellow AND up into the clear.
The lemons are made of polymer clay. It’s a really cool process where you wrap and rewrap the colored clay shapes until they look like a lemon slice. These start out about the size of a quarter then are rolled down and cut into slices that can be placed into dice. Foam would have had a much different reaction in the pressure pot. Just FYI, from one artist to another.😉
@Rybonator the little fruit slices are made of bakeable clays, like sculpey or fimo. they make canes and roll them out to the desired size and then slice them really thin and bake them. I love this idea. if you end up making strawberry lemonade in the future, definitely share!
Did you try adding the silicone ice to the first batch of resin? If they float to the top they are in the same position you are gluing them into and the resin may secure them in place before the second pour. If that doesn’t work UV should hold them in place instead of glue.
Not sure if this has been commented yet. But a thought I had. If the silicone is likely to rise to the top, why not just place the pieces where you want while doing the first layer. Then when that resin hardens, it will hold it in place while keeping it “on top”. I guess then you run the risk of sinking, but it might be worth a shot!
Try using clear UV curing resin to secure your small pieces in place instead of superglue! Not sure how they mix or if it would hold, but it’s worth a shot!
You could make small molds that would hold your inserts. After they cure you could put them into the dice mold and not worry about them floating and they would have more of a 3d layout in the dice because you could put in multiple in different orientations. It's just an idea, I've never tried it...
Honestly, I think the white residue on the ice bits makes it look even more like ice. Either way, these dice look amazing and it makes me wanna try it for myself.
I think your best bet for securing the silicone pieces would be a thin layer of resin. Just enough to coat everything, but not enough to let it float. The downside of course is that it adds and extra day to the process while waiting for it to cure.
This would be a really cool project for the solid glass ice thing that you've been doing. Make the insert the clear yellow and outside clear to make it look like a glass of lemonade
Hiya! Full disclosure, I haven’t much experience in placing objects inside dice aside from a gold cat eye d20 I tried (which turned out way cool despite its flaws!), and swirly liquid center d20 after seeing your vid on it-and neither came out perfect but hey it’s a learning experience and I’m looking forward to trying again! So maybe this wouldn’t work as well in practice as in theory, but what if you were to pour the lemonade side first like you mentioned, then when the resin’s thickened just enough to keep stuff from sinking into it, you laid the lemons and ice on top and sunk them mostly but not fully into the yellow? That would (should?) keep them resined in place for the pouring of the clear resin, and I think it could look cool/more realistic and give them more of a ‘floaty’ effect in the lemonade-you know how in glasses with ice, usually the ice floats so it just breaks the surface of the liquid level rather than staying completely under? And hey you could even put a lemon slice upright by the edge like how they stick ‘em on the side of the glass sometimes, might be fun. Again, who knows how well this would work in practice, but I think there’s potential! That or, as someone else suggested, UV resin to lock it in place instead of glue. Ps, I appreciate your vids, they’ve been really helpful since I’m a little newer to resin and dice making!
You might be able to use a UV curing resin as a glue to lock down your add-ins. Or my sister said why not put the add-ins in the base layer and let them float, then they'd be captured by the first later and the second layer could go on easily.
I know this is mostly a resin channel but have you ever thought about making a video of other methods of making dice? Metal casting or cutting stone? Great video as always!
Have you looked into seeing if UV resin would work for gluing things down like in this project? Another option may be the quick set epoxies (like the 5 or 30 minute stuff that I think is used for Dioramas... at least that is where I found mine in the hobby store 😅)
You can actually buy fake ice on Amazon, they have different sizes but look up ice vase filler and get the small size. Also the lemon pieces are polymer clay. Love the idea!

The white from the superglue is usually acrylic that was in vapor form (along with the solvent) and then settled after the solvent evaporated. You can usually avoid most of it If you keep just a little bit of air moving over the surface while it cures.
Somebody give this man an Oscar.
Here is an idea: how about christmas present themed dice?
(Like... gift-wrapper dice?)
I can do that :) I tried last year but messed up and didn't get anything worth posting a video on
Also perhaps some sprue molds usage? Lately you've shown us a lot of "cap molds go ham". I miss the sprue mold.
LOVE your stuff, and some day when I have a living space that is large enough to section part off for projects and ventilate properly I want to follow some of your experiments!
when you pressure cast your dice in multiple parts like this design do you ever get a seem line with your dice? and if so does sanding fix that?
Yes I do get that - The main way to stop that is to cast it while the first layer is still in a jelly like consistency (maybe an hour after the mixing stage is done). This will help some of the new resin blend with the old :) But it's a tricky dance not to reintroduce bubbles
@@Rybonator i will try this out! thanks!

I actually had to google if 69° F is a normal room temperature, or if you were sweating / freezing just for the bit :D
Hi Rybonator, I love the subtle sparkle these dice have! Also, what kind of air compressor are you using for your pressure pot?
I use a Central Pneumatic 100psi system. It's loud as heck but pretty darn cheap :)
I was just rewatching the candy dice episode! I love your videos!
Perfect timing! Thanks Angeal, I really appreciate that :)
The RCU expands !!!
One day I'll have to go back in time to when I made the infinity stone dice

Love your dice ideas and can't wait for the ice dice. I started researching how to make my own for my dnd group for Christmas and i can't wait to start!
I would suggest trying Smooth-On SIL-Poxy Silicone Adhesive. I have only used it to glue silicone to silicone but it is supposed to also allow you to glue silicone to other things.
I have a suggestion for the holding of the foam bits and silicone. If you want to do it the method that you did in the video you could simply use UV resin to hold it down you could even color it the way you would color the lemonade portion. Another option is to do the reverse do the lemonade first and simply drop the bits in when the resin is slightly cured and solid enough to hold the bits from falling completely through but it sinking into the yellow resin might make it look more realistic and warp it like the clear resin did
The skill share Lore just gets more and more intense every upload
Woooo, they look suuuuper cool!!!! (Haha, a cool lemonade). I was playing Divinity original sin, which I think might be based on DnD, and as always using a wizard. But they are like, super focused on water/ice skills!! So, I'm just imagining this fake ice to make frost wizards dice, that could be awesome!
I really enjoy your work, keep it up!! 💜💜
How refreshingly sweet they look! I really need to start making dice again!
These came out great!
I would think that you could use a bit of UV resin rather than the super glue to hold the inclusions down.
That's a perfect plan! I should have thought of that :D Thanks Karai
What if you used clear silicone caulking, since the only thing that really sticks to silicone is... silicone. They make little tubes for repairs rvs and stuff
That's not a bad idea, I wonder if it would stick to the resin part of the dice? I would assume so. Worth a shot :D
i love how in the skill share ad his house temp is 69
Those look and sound really good.
I think the white glue actually makes the ice stand out more! and it kinda looks like partially melted ice that's kind of opaque and kind of clear
Rybonator, you get an extra thumbs up for the Bob Ross shout out.....who do NOT like watching Bob Ross paint....so peaceful, so tranquil, great way to unwind at the end of a stressful day at school or work
Can use clear UV resin as glue
Just FYI, from one artist to another.😉
If the lemons and silikon cubes flows up, you can drop them on top in the first layer after half time of curing. So you don´t need any glue.
I would love to see a continuation of this food themed dice.
For an alternative to super glue, have a test using UV curing resin - I use it to hold parts in place for Resin filled pen blanks
Ooooo now we can do a whole line up of juices and have a juice party, or a fruit party… adventure of the produce!
Honestly, I think the white residue on the ice bits makes it look even more like ice. Either way, these dice look amazing and it makes me wanna try it for myself.
A masterpiece! Wonderful creation
Did you consider using UV resin instead of glue?
That honestly slipped my mind, but that's a great idea! :D Thanks Adrian!
Nice.
Thanks Live :D
These would be so cute for my favorite character, Rhett! Wonderful dice as always, Rybonator!
I think this is my new favorite set of Rybo-Dice 🍋
