We have a fun tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a favorite block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are showing off three adorable ways to use our beloved Pins and Paws cat quilt block.
Jenny's quilt is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Her fabric is Midnight Magic II by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics--a perfect choice for a Halloween quilt! This pattern is a combination of Pins and Paws + our Attic Window quilt, and it looks just like windows filled with cats!
Natalie's "Calico Cats" quilt is made with 5 inch squares of precut fabric (charm packs). She used Dream 5" Stackers by Kristy Lea for Riley Blake to create brightly colored patchwork cats, and she used the scraps for pretty flying geese details.
Misty's "Itty Bitty Kitty Committee" quilt is made with 5 inch squares of precut fabric (charms). Her fabric is Tula Pink's True Colors by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics. These miniature kitten blocks are so sweet and colorful, and Misty has a quick and easy hack to add sashing in a flash!

Oh my gosh. Natalie’s flying geese could so easily become fish bones with the cats!
Fish bones!!
love the calico guilt.....the flying fish could be fish bones by just turning the last square to make a fish tail.....very fun gals.....d. smith
Great idea turning the last 'geese' to make a fish skeleton. Thanks!
Natalie, your wonky geese remind me of fish bones! Purrrrfect! 😃
The flying geese in Natalie's pattern could be a fish skeleton. Love the whole beautiful clever design. Thanks Natalie.
That was my first thought, too.🤩
Same thought came to my mind 😊
I thought that too. Just swap out the fifth flying goose for a background block with a 'wee' strip of print running short side to short side like a spine. PS In Scotland 'Wee' means small/tiny!
That's what I thought they were it's brilliant
@@clairemccall4349 Oh my, YES!! What a cute idea :)
Love Missys........So adorable
Love all the Cat stuff!
I love Misty’s kittens. I am putting this into my cue for my daughter, she takes in infant kittens and bottle feeds them and takes care of them as a volunteer for Animal Rescue of the Rockies in Denver Colorado. She has a couple of incubators for the tiny babies. Some of them die and it is so heart breaking for her. I know she will love this quilt!
I made the top! It is done ! I would send a picture, but I can’t figure out how
Swuee!! The itty bitty kitty committee! I know two people who are going to get kitty quilts using my Tula and Kaffe scraps!!
I love all MSQC videos, but forget to "like" them, so sorry about that, I watch them over and over, and it gets my brain moving...lol..at 85 I need that, thanks to all of you great guys for making our lives so comfy
Oh my goodness I love how you did those attic window! No Y-seam on the mitered corner! Thank you!
I love Triple Play!
I love the flying geese fishbone skeletons!!!
I love you guys, I am home with the Shingles and I am enjoying all of your videos. When you have Triple play it is like being together with you for a tea party!!! I love the laughter and respect you show each other. Please keep up the great work!!
Happy sewing, Winnie Koontz Duanesburg , NY😊
Those flying geese should be called flying fish! The cats would really be paying attention then! Love your work Natalie
I have a friend who is obsessed with white cats and the color pink. I think I'll make Jennie's quilt with white cats in pink rooms and the black and grey windows. Such fun quikts, ladies!
Natalie…love your kitty quilt. Jenny…love your kitty attic window quilt, another idea for the window is to use a panel that is an outdoor design and use that for the glass in each block. Misty…love your itty bitty cat quilt.
Well done ladies! Misty I have to tell you that your quilt name so resonated with me. I was a very petite and small chested girl when I was in high school and I was called every name in the book for it. If I could have had an Itty Bitty Kitty Committee quilt I have to think it would have made it easier!
Totally not a cat person, but Misty and Natalie quilts make me wish I were. They’re so cute!!!
Love this project…Natalie your flying geese looks like fish! Each of the quilts were so unique with the cats! Soooo cute!,
I immediately thought the same thing!
I guess I am not the only one that saw fish bones!!!!
I thought the same thing, the flying geese lined up looked like fish bones!
Me too!
I thought the same about the flying geese!! Fish bones!
I love how the three of you work together
Love the hints shared! Great cats. Thanks 😊
This has been my favorite! I am a cat lover.
Wow love Natalies calico cats
The kitties are so cute! I love all of them!!
Some of Jenny's cats look like they are sitting in front of a yellow moon! 🥰
In the middle of making the one with the big kitties, for my daughter, she's gonna love it 🤩
Triple play day is my favorite day of the month!🥰🥰🥰
🐈⬛💕Love anything cats.🐈🐈
Hi Ladies, what fun i had watching the three Cat tutorials - which one to choose - well they are all beautiful so I’ll choose all three. Thank you so much for all the tips and tricks. We are serious cat lovers so this is definitely on my to do list. 🌻
I'm doing Pins and Paws with Maureen McCormick's Blooming Bunches. 70's cats!
Cat blocks have been around forever. Pins & Paws is in my core pattern file. Love the stylish ways you have reimagined it! I think the small kitties would make a darling zipper case for any cat lover, probably in animal fur pattern that would show less wear from handling. Your trio reminds me so much of the synergy I enjoy when any of my quilting buddies get together and explore fun stuff. We have great sessions going on Zoom, but nothing like in person. Looking forward to more. Stay creative. Stay well. Stay safe. P.S. Dog people will be wanting equal time...
Natalie's flying geese look like fish skeletons!! Live the bright and colorful cats 🐈😻
Cats and windows is purrrfect!
So glad that I’m able to review these tutorials at any time. It helps keep the creative juices moving😊
I absolutely love these quilts. So different but all beautiful. All of us in my family are cat lovers and I will at least be making cushion versions of Misty’s for Catmas presents.
Love them all but adore Natalie’s
Loved these choices of cats too cute
You know what would look nice in the windows? Flowers! Make the "flower chain" block and frame that.
This is Sew Pawsome! You know Natalie’s flying geese almost looks like fish bones. 😊🐠🐠. Always love you tutorials and creativity. Thank you!

I was going to say the same thing!
My thoughts exactly!
I saw that too! 💜
I thought the flying geese was a fish skeleton....works well with the cats! Loved all 3.
These quilts are so darling. I love the calico cats.
I love all of the quilts you three made. The flying geese reminded me of the fish bones cartoonists used with cats!
I always love the Triple Play! Cats are my favorite!
Lovely work
Jenny I give you 10 out 10
Misty 9 out 10 and
Nately 9 out 10 going to order for a present

Oh my, the cat ladies all over the world will go nuts for these....Natalie all I can do any way are wonky geese so thank you. Jenny you look radiant and Misty every time you are on our hearts go a-flutter...
Natalie! I think your flying geese look like either a little line of fish OR a wonky fish skeleton-- PERFECT for the cats!!!! 😁
My favorite is Natalie’s quilt, Mistys name and then the lights on and window sill of Jenny’s. Fabulous ladies and love how you work so well together.
Natalie I love your colors
I enjoy all triple play series! Keep 'em coming! All my kids are animal lovers. I 'liked' this video so I will be in my history for when I am ready to make these. Thank you Kindly for your realistic tips on sewing, cutting, measuring.
Love love love the wonky geese!!!
Itty Bitty Kitty for the win! Purrfect for a baby quilt!!!
I love this tutorial and the three different takes on/treatment of the Kitty block... I especially LOVE the instructional discussions of how to recognize WHAT is happening when it is NOT fitting and HOW! to actually make it fit" WHen it's best to use yardage rather than a precut OR to adapt your cornerstones... Listening to you three experienced quilters DISCUSS THE BASICS AND THE OPTIONS IS VERY HELPFUL!! And the SASHING HACK - superb!!!
Great point made regarding mini pieces like the honey bun sashing, Missy. Beautiful quilts. It’s so hard to decide what is my favorite is. I love the colors and playful fun in Natalie’s and Missy’s quilts. I love the Halloween themed one of Jenny’s. They are all amazing!!!
Thank you ladies for all you do. I have a baby quilt to make, and here you are. I will be doing Misty's Itty Bitty Committee one just like that for our new baby girl niece. Appreciate all you do, and enjoy watching each week.
Soooooooo cute!
Excellent points from all of you... all makes sense to those of us that have been sewing for years... also "validates" a lot of the little things we do and don't know if it's "right or wrong".... at 74,,, i now call very smart for thinking out of the box and making it work!!!! GB
Wow Natalie, I made 2- twin sized pins and paws quilts.....But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about this quilt. Phenomenal!!!! THANK YOU.
I love that Jenny left some of the lights on in her cat windows, for that reason, Jenny gets my vote. Loved the name of Misty’s quilt, lol Her cats look like little kittens. Thanks to Natalie, we now know about wonky flying geese. This does it, I’m in the mood to sew today! Love triple play day. 💚
I want to thank you ladies. I have been watching triple play since yesterday. I have learned how to cut and stitching blocks together.
Absolutely love all three quilts. 🥰
Great video, all beautiful with my favourite being my love with the Calico Cats, the design and colours are fantastic. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
I Love all the kitty quilts 💜
I’m Not a fan of Tulia fabric but the line Misty choose is so cute in the mini kitty quilt 💜
Looks like they are on steps! Very cute with the flying geese
I love seeing you three together and the creative minds at work!
Natalie, your wonky geese look like a fish bone to me! So cute.
I made the pins and paws with a broken right arm. It was so easy and beautiful. thank you for this new version of it.
Looked like the moon shining behind the cats. I am looking from inside out. Fun quilt. Thanks Jenny.
Love triple play!!! Together you are stronger!
I love all three and look forward to seeing all 3 of you working together
In Jenny's version, it looks like a little bit of tweaking of the cat's ear a bat might magically appear. But that would take drafting talent!
Love, love Natalie's!!! Beautifully colorful, happy, cheery and playful!!! The flying geese could be birdies or are they flying fish?
And, Misty's is too cute!!! Love the subtle rainbow effect and block size! How do you ladies do it? So much talent, creativity and inspiration.
Triple Thank You!!!
Awesome projects! Love the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee!!
I loved all three. I couldn’t pick a favorite this time.
Natalie again your thinking out the box has come out with a spectacular design. Missy your small cats and blocks formed in colour layout makes this quilt so adorable
Love all three. I look forward to these Triple Play videos all month. So much creativity! I would probably use that 1” piece to make a tail.
Love all three projects, and it was so nice to see Natalie.
That's so nice of you,,,,,, hello 👋 how are you doing I hope you are having a wonderful day, I really appreciate your comment on this video.
I haven’t been tempted to make a cat quilt before. Now I am. I really, really am!
The 3 quilts are amazingly unique. The beauty of how ones creativity works. Being a lefty myself , I was gravitating to Jenny's quilt due to the random yellow color and both sides of the sitting cats . Great job ladies.
My favorite is the itty bitty kitty, the free spirit fabrics were beautiful
Love 💕💙 those ideas for making the cats both bigger and mixed up colors! Love you gals
I love the way you three ladies play together. I enjoyed all three of your quilts as well. Beautiful.
This is the VERY first time I have loved ALL three of the quilts...and couldn't pick a FAVORITE due to the fact each quilt was better & better & better. No one fav this time.
This is amazing talent at MSQC.....I really look forward to the monthly Triple Play ladies!!!
Thanks so much for all you do. Your love of quilting is INFECTIOUS!!!!
That was a fun one ladies and I liked all of them.
Natalie, your Calico Cats are my absolute favorite! I have been holding on to three identical charm packs and now I know why!

Jenny, Natalie, & Misty: One kitty turned into three! I love all three! They’re purrrfect! I can’t wait to try this pattern. Thank you. I think you’re all wonderful
Love it ,it looks like a fish spine on, the tall , short cat.
Love the flying geese units! They look like fish bones.
The minute I saw the Pins & Paws pattern, I knew I was in trouble. Love all three Kitty-Cats quilts. Thank you.
