- Jenny Doan demonstrates how to make an adorable gnome quilt using 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). For this project, Jenny chose Ava Kate 10" Stackers by Carina Gardner for Riley Blake.
The pattern for this quilt is the "You Gnome I Love You Quilt" Pattern for Hello Melly Designs. It's made up of pretty hearts and cute little gnomes with heart-shaped beards, pink noses, and pointy hats, of course! This pattern can be a Christmas quilt, a Valentine quilt, or an every day quilt--especially if you love gnomes as much as Jenny does!

I love this pattern. It's cute and looks easy to make. I love the colors in this quilt. Thank you Jenny.
I love watching you sew, you are an inspiration to me. I went back to sewing after decades of not sewing & I’m so glad to watch you & your tutorials. I love your no nonsense approach & you are so candid. Thank you so much. I hope I can make it to Hamilton from Michigan sometime! 😍
love the “something special” HSTs! I do the same thing, i’m looking forward to a huge scrappy HST quilt someday ❤️❤️
헤밀턴가고싶어요
감사요😉🥰😙
I could see appliqueing bigger, rounded more gnome-like noses on the blocks instead of the tiny triangles.
buttons!!!!
I use the leftover "something special" HST to make doll quilts for Christmas charity giving. Perfect for those tiny projects.
Thank you so much for making it acceptable to make blocks that aren’t ‘perfect’. Striving for perfection takes all of the joy out of quilting, surely quilting is something that should make our hearts sing 🥰🥰 Your quilts always make me happy 😊
"It's not harder, it's just smaller." LOL. I love it when you teach.
This is really cute! My best friend loves gnomes! Great Christmas throw coming up!
Very cute. Love Gnomes. This gives me an idea for making my quilt tags. Make the gnome block and write in the beard area all quilt information. Make this my signature block.
Love the quilt tag idea!
Love this pattern! Thank you for sharing it. I see it as a great scrap buster. Jenny, you make my Friday mornings soooo happy.
Hello Sharon
I love this and it would be perfect for people doing signature wedding quilts. The gnome heart would be perfect for the signatures!
Hello Peggy
@@gibsonmoore6784 Hi.
@@peggycooper1221 how are you doing Peggy where you texting from ???
Super Cute.. My granddaughters birthday is Valentines Day.. Maybe I will make her one!!
Ya gotta love Jenny...it's not perfect and yet it still turns out perfectly fine. Certainly boosts my confidence (cuz we've all seen pics of other people's gorgeous creations and felt inadequate and totally green with envy).
Ôi
Extra half square triangles, sewing it ahead ... wow!!! Why haven’t I been doing that? I have piles waiting to sew and do something.. great idea to sew them now.
This is adorable! I agree with others, it would be great in Christmas colors or for Valentines in the pinks/reds!
Jenny, I think we both like gnomes (tomte in Swedish) because they are a part of our Swedish DNA. Better be nice to them or they will play tricks on you! ☺️
Thank you Jenny, I love gnomes, but I think in my quilt I will have a button or applique circle for the nose not a bird beak :)
I see the gnome as a ring! The top is the diamond-I thought how clever...I can't see a gnome.
Oh, you “gnome” this is going to be “something special!” 😂
Such a sweet pattern! Happy quilting! 🧵
Hello Tracy
?? Question: What is the seam guide tape that you have on your machine bed? Do you sell it? Super cute quilt!
Diagonal seam tape they do sell it
Super sweet! I see a Christmas quilt in my future. This is my Thursday bedtime story, always with a happy ending. Thank you Jenny and Melly.
I frequently wish I could hit the like button several times. This quilt is one of those times.
Jenny, I just love the happy energy and chatter you bring to your videos. You're one of the best instructors on the 'net!
Amen to that!
This is darling! I want to make so many quilts. I’m thinking of a block from each of my favorites as I LOVE to piece. There is something so satisfying about taking something square and flat and making it into something super fun! Thanks for this inspiration!
Hi 👋
Love this pattern. Another one for my "Quilts to make Bucket List". Jenny, sometimes I wish you come out with a new pattern that I don't like because my bucket list is getting way to long. Just have to figure out who would love and appreciate it to get this one as a gift. Since one of my friends made a statement this morning "so far I hated every "handmade gift".
i wonder if you could make a small yoyo for the nose. put a little fluff in it and then tack it on.
Imagine taking each gnome block separately and make them into a series of hot pads and coasters. They would be really cute!
Thanks, Jenny. You're so great to watch. x ⚘⚘
This is an adorable pattern! And I love that you cannot let that fabric go to waste.
Hello Lorie
Hello Lorie
So very cute. I can see this in a cute Christmas toy print border also.
I see this as hearts and houses, not as gnomes.
Maybe if it had two small black dots you could see “eyes” it would look more like a gnome. I think it’s cute either way. 😁
If you leave off the arms and noses you could have hearts and houses, but you’re right.
Honestly, I thought it could be cute as a house warming quilt because it looks like little houses with hearts inside them!
Funny, I saw no gnomes ... just diamond rings with a heart center and the pink heart blocks. Thought it would make a nice wedding quilt!
I saw the same thing. Gnomes are not my style, but I saw a beautiful hearts and houses quilt!
It’s a cute quilt but I don’t see gnomes, I see hearts with a roof. Apparently, my vision is compromised. 🤷♀️😏
I don't see gnomes either! 🤷🏿♀️
Haha, my husband has the same compromised vision ;-)
If you have a new camera it is awesome!! Love the quality.
Cute but way too intricate for me. I agree with others that it doesn't really look like a gnome especially since it's hard to tell that the triangle is a nose.
"Gnome-bodies nose is prefect" Love that :)
Love the idea of wonky noses!
I used to “double seam” my squares because hubby’s aunt made quilted things with them. I suppose I should start doing that again, and use them myself as she has passed away. 😢😢 (darn autocorrect!!!)
My gnome fabric and layer cake from Jennifer Pugh comes in TOMORROW!! Gnome quilt with gnome fabric . . . what could be better! I can't wait!!
I “gnome” know what could be better! Lol
Listen to Jenny when she mentions the "small pieces" (1 1/4" squares)... this one got a little tedious with all those little squares and corner to corner sewing. Now that it's done, I like it okay...
I can see doing just one gnome circled by hearts for a xmas wallhanging hmmmmm ideas ideas
Oh wow!! I Gnome I love Gnomes too!!! Thanks for sharing.
I love it! Gnomes (or Nisse for Norwegians! ) are so fun! Great quilt! Can't wait to make it!
Please share your "something amazing" made with your cut off triangles!
so pretty, but sooooooooo many pieces. Will take weeks to do this quilt......LOL
You need to have a tutorial on your "scraps for something special" quilt. We all have lots of left-overs to play with.
Hello Ellen
Sorry, but this is the very first of your quilts I don't like.
I look forward to your next quilt.
Im usually able to see the design but I cannot see the gnome :/ can some break it down a little more for me ?
فنانة احبك كثير متبعة من المغرب ماشاءالله عليك الله يطول في عمرك متبعة قديمة وتعلمنا الكثير منك شكرا
If you make 25 hearts and 25 gnomes, with a lay out of 7 blocks by 7 rows, that’s only 49 blocks. What happens to the last one?
You could make a cute pillow ! 💗
Or add our to the backing as a cute quilt tag/signature.
Where can I get the cutting diagram that jenny made to use for this quilt
How about a triple play using left over HSTs?
Love this teacher, can I get adopted🙏❤️😊😊
It would make a cute runner too.
Hello Genevieve
The original pattern includes a table runner - 3 gnomes, two hearts and voila .. you got yourself a runner
Gnomes and hearts=adorable!
Such an adorable quilt! Thank you for sharing!
It is a very unusual one and I love it very different from others
Hello my friend
Oh Jenny! I had a quilt all planned out for today.. and you showed me gnomes! Love the quilt and i love you too!
Hello Linda
Sew Cute! How about a wall hanging?????
I love, love, love those colours! Such a cheerful and cheeky quilt! ❣️🌹
Hello fran
I finally found it lol took me forever 🤣
The download file won’t download 😢
That is absolutely adorable 😍 I'm thinking Christmas fabrics. Thank you for sharing
Hello kym
Another amazing “Quilting with Jenny!” This is so darn adorable! My goodness! The fun never ends! Sleep is so overrated. Thank you Jenny & MSQC! ALWAYS🤗🦩
Love my Friday morning tea and tutorials ... but ... it would make ME (personally) crazy to have all those little extra waste pieces in my work area. I'd have to brush them off or at least get them out of the way. Just my 2 cents ... but this is a GREAT and FUN quilt!
Love these gnomes!!! Did you know Wroclaw, Poland (near German border) has a tradition of gnomes? They have many little statues of gnomes and sell a map to find them! I had a blast finding as many as I could in a couple of days as well as enjoying their Christmas Market in the historic Old Town. Now to get this pattern and make the quilt.
I have the same sewing machine you used except mine is the Brother model. I love it! It's a work horse and I've made so many heavy projects, quilt tops and FMQ on it. I would cry if it broke.
Cute quilt! I've used your method of making those extra HSTs several times. When making a fat quarter quilt recently I was able to get a lap quilt, baby quilt and mini quilt out of my fabric by using that method. Thanks again for that tip, Jenny!
Very lovely quilt. I actually have that layer cake pack. Beautiful colors . Enjoyable tutorial.🧚👍💮🏵️💮
Such a fun quilt! I’ll bet you will inspire many quilters to get some layer cakes featuring buffalo plaids, and also lots of quilters to buy this cute pattern from you. Win-win-win!! 🥰
I love this pattern! I already have tiny 1 1/4" squares from another project. I make and save all of my extra hst. One day they will be made into a memory quilt. Thanks Jenny for all you do.
So stinking cute!!! Would be adorable in Christmas fabrics! Love it!
Jenny, thanks so much for the idea and saving of the little triangles. I have the worse time making a quilt square that I lose so much fabric.
So cute! My husband loves gardening and he has several gnomes placed here and there next to the flowers. You've just given me an idea for his Christmas present!
LOVE this! ❤️💕 So whimsical & fun! Thanks Jenny!
Sew sweet. I love Gnomes too. Thanks for this video, I always enjoy your style and wisdom Jenny 💕
I think if the hands had been the same color as the nose, a gnome would have been more obvious. Initially I had a hard time seeing a gnome. I love the fabric choice.
Love your variety idea for the noses! I’m thinking table runner
I love that your videos are precut driven, that’s the majority of what I buy, than yardage from a print inside
Would it possible to use a fat quarter. I have Christmas bundle. Love the Gnomes
Lol, we call slightly off anatomy “normal variant”. In reference to your noses! It still works ,
What a clever idea to use the cardboard from the layer cake to make a cutting chart. I love your excellent tips!
Love it.👏🏻💕👏🏻
LOVE this! I too find gnomes adorable and this is so cute. Thanks for sharing it
Great triple play idea - show us different ideas of what we can do with all those extra half-square triangles that we all have!
Yay! First comment! So cute!! Love your tutorials Jenny!!
Very nice quilt. I will make this one. Thanks Jenny
Love the pattern. Thank you.
You make Everything fun
I love the Gnomes and this quilt is perfect!!!!
This is really cool. I already know which family member is getting this quilt. Fun and fairly easy. Thank you, Jenny. 😍❤👍🧵🪡
Thank you Jenny, you're such a creative lady.
Brilliant to draw the pieces on the cardboard!!!!
wish there was a digital pattern option instead of just print.
This will be adorable with Christmas fabrics.
I love the quilting pattern on this! 💕❤❤
I might be a fan of the gnome. Lol. This is so cute
Какой милый квилт! Очень красиво, супер!
Sew sew cute!
I almost passed this by because I don’t like gnomes. But I’m glad I watched! They look like sweet heart faces with hair and a cute triangle hat.
SO cute!
