- This video shows you how to test the start button on a Maytag Dryer. You would want to test this part if you have a dryer that will not tumble when you press start button. The dryer tested in this video is a Maytag Dependable Care Dryer.

Thank you I had just purchased a belt for 57 dollars. They just said the belt is good. I googled & got you. Also the switch only 32. Saved a few dollars. Hubby on hs wasy to exchange. KUDOSSSSSS
Thanks Bill, I have found all your videos very informative and helpful. Maybe you can give me a clue on my four week project (lol) with a " will not start Maytag Neptune model MDE5500AYW electric dryer". Initially the unit tub tumbled, but would not heat. I openned up the cabinet and did mult-meter checks and found the heater element bad. Ordered the part, R and Rd it, cleaned out all lint exhaust and the dryer ran for about ten minutes and heated. I came back to check on progress and it had stopped and the clothes were still wet. I again openned the cabinet, check the thermal fuses and thermistor and found no continuity on the brown thermistor, ordered it R and Rd, and unit still did not start. The control panel has power and is lit up. I noticed a ping sound when I pushed the "start" pad, so, I openned up the top cover and attempted to access the control pad. a forest green wire with a clamp type clip was dangling, not sure if I caused it to come loose or it was loose already. I could not determine where it was attached. I am new to this DYI and the wife is starting to get fed up with me, have any suggestions?

Isn't the multi tester used in the "continuity" position to test the start button, not Ohms as you mentioned ?

Maytag dryer model MEDC300BWO
Motor, timer and heating elements all checked and working. Repairman replaced the thermal fuse. After he left, my wife ran one load, the dryer operated perfectly. Now, it won't start.
The heating element turns on with the timer set to dry, when the start button is pushed, Any ideas? Thanks, joe

WHAT IF YOU PUSH THE START SWITCH AND THE DRYER STARTS RUNNING, BUT THEN IT IMMEDIATELY STOPS WHEN THE START SWITCH IS RELEASED. IT RUNS AS LONG AS THE START SWITCH IS HELD DOWN.
+s wilson Motor switch is bad, you can try to clean it and see if it helps.
Hello. My Maytag has 4(four wires). A plug with 3 wires and another single black wire.. How do I test that?? Ugh. Thx
Also, I took the back off but can't findANY fuses. Where would they be? Dryer not starting. light comes on. Door switch "clicks". Start switch has a sound when door closed but seems not to "click". That's why I'm thinking its the start button.
My dryer stopped the other day my wife put a heavy load in it. I got home move the drum started spinning. What is going out do people think?

ii have a maytag dg303 and timer wont advance , and dryer wont stop unless i open the door , so i dont have to push the timer to start cause its always on the on mode ,what could this be? thanks
Hi Bill I'm looking for ways to repair the membrane on a maytag model MCE8000AYW. The part number is 31001658. I've looked on many websites and the part is discontinued. The power button has been worn through and it isn't responding anymore.
maytag bravo model med6400tqo shows f1 when u hit the start button.. cleaned out all air vents but still will not start

Bill, I have an OLD Maytag dryer that won't start. It's model DE303. I've tested the continuity of all of the common problems such as the dryer door switch, the multiple safety thermostats, and the voltage from the outlet and the the voltage where the power cord connects.This model has the "turn and push" dial to get it started. I think I've followed all of the recommendations I could find within your videos and on RepairClinic too. Is there a way to test the dial. Do you have any other recommendations? I'm hoping the dial hasn't failed as it appears the part is no longer available. However, it's the easiest access for testing next. I'm not an electrician and the schematic I have might as well be in a different language. Is there is a definite test that will indicate if the dial has failed. There are approximately 8 wires of various colors running to various connections within the unit. Otherwise, I'm on to testing the motor which requires a little more work to remove parts. Thank you.
I'm currently digging into the answer for this. The short answer is "yes, there's a way to test it" but we need to know the correlation of the various positions to the various wires. Your model's parts list should have a wiring diagram in it.
I'm about to see if I'm reading it right, but if I am, for mine, the orange and purple wires should be connected to the S and M terminals and they should be the direct test for the switch.
Ed. Yup: S to M tests the push button. I'm not trying to work out the position of open versus closed for anything else, but I THINK it SHOULD be terminal "L" to each other terminal and rotating it should turn each on and off at various points.
