Been to Taiwan maybe 4 times and would go back in a heartbeat just for the food, beautiful sceneries and the friendly people and great service culture.
Couldn't agree more!
Hello 7-11! YUM!!!
I am going there in December for the first time from Las Vegas 🎉
Could you possibly tell me if you need cash or card in Taiwan? I’m planning to do a 2 day trip, how much cash would you think for food? I was thinking maybe $500 for a 2 day trip
Agree! I’ve been to Taiwan twice this year and I am planning to go there again by early 2024. Taiwan might be a so-so for other people but for me it’s been absolutely amazing!
Your heartfelt monologue about your parents and your reflection on Taiwan’s and your own family history brought tears to my eyes. Wasn’t expecting this watching about budget travel in Taipei. Makes me miss home. I’m also a Taiwanese immigrant to the US
Plus one
Love your video!! I’m American Taiwanese and I also got a bit emotional when Lisa talked about her dad and mom. I really enjoyed you guys. 加油❤
ah, yes! 加油! thank you for watching!!! ❤️
Thank you for this. Lived in Taiwan over a decade ago, and you getting emotional made me emotional. It's so easy to get caught up in that beautiful city ❤
it's an incredible place ❤️
I was in Taiwan two months ago and had a fantastic time. I would love to go back again. The Taiwanese are very friendly people and orderly. Taiwan reminds me of Japan.
japan is overrated
Taiwan = Japan minus the bad weather ,minus terrible road traffic , minus ugly buildings
Hi thanks for your comment. Can you recommend a guide? Thanks
Really? I’m going, don’t really care about mainland China.
@@zillsburyy1I went to Japan a year ago and loved it, can't wait to go back, so lived up to its hype. Haven't been to Taiwan yet but looks very interesting.
This is the best vlog in a long time, if not the best I've seen from you two. Funny, moving, informative, so satisfying (food market lover here), and also the most inspirational one yet. I almost cried when you said your goal was to give away a trip because all you want is to inspire people to travel. Please know that you have done far more for us already.
Your past Hawaii vlogs are a reason why my trip went smooth-sailing this past summer. Then your credit card churning videos made my trip to Bali possible this past February, meaning just 8 months after I returned from Hawaii. I am already planning my next trip and I am again taking notes from your videos. You two are not just inspiring us to travel. You're literally making our travel dreams come true. I am subscribed, I love you both, and I am super grateful for all you continue to do :)
this means a lot to us, truly. we never quite know how much of an impact our videos make, so we appreciate you letting us know. we really do hope and believe that every single person deserves a chance to travel once in their lifetime. so, so happy to hear about your trip to Hawai'i and Bali! safe and happy travels!
Over 53 glorious minutes of Taiwan! Loved the variety you showcased. It makes me want to go back!!
thanks for watching all 53 minutes of it! ☺️ we want to go back soon too!
I think Taiwan may be at the top of my travel list now, thanks to this video. Looks like airfare is a bit more reasonable in September.
so glad to hear! Taiwan is such a special place!
Josh&Lisa, this is one of your best and most informative vlogs. I just have one wish that you listed the sights and restaurants in the description, so we can find them.
noted, thanks for the feedback! we've been including the locations within the video, but we can see how that would be helpful in the description. we just added a map with all the links saved to the places we visited in the description :)
Last time I've been to Taipei was almost a decade ago. But I'm going back to visit in January 2024! This time, I'm doing some research and came across this video, which definitely sparked ideas as I build my itinerary because it's practical, informative, and no nonsense.
thanks so much for watching and have a great trip in January!
We are loving this 3 day series!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
thanks, guys!
I am looking to visit Taipei and came across your channel. I really enjoyed your content. It was like a watching friends holiday video. Nothing annoying, pretentious & full of useless information like most of the travel vlogs in here. I cannot believe I watched the entire hour and had so much fun. I will definitely follow all of your food recommendations and tips. Thanks for creating this helpful and enjoyable video and am so excited now for my trip!!!
Thanks so much! We really want to be helpful as possible! Hope you enjoy your trip!!
Thank you Lisa & Josh, this was nice video of Taipei and you did it all for $100/day ... wow!!! I felt very emotional along with Lisa recounting to that memorial coinciding with her mother being born, the lighting of the lantern was also lovely, the waterfall, the food, the climb up Elephant Mountain ... thank you for giving us a glimpse of Taiwanese life. I have traveled quite a bit but never to Asia. I hope you get to fullfill your wish to give away a trip to someone deserving, someone who has never traveled outside of their city🙏
Thanks for coming along and for the lovely words ☺️we hope to make that dream come true soon!

Was the $100 budget a day, in usd or ntd?
24:10 what a lovely reminder! I definitely want to do this with my grandma as well. She's my last grandparent alive and I don't want to miss out on all the stories she has to share.
My wife and I just got back from Taipei. Her family is from Taiwan also. The food was so good! I was worried that you guys weren’t going to try 臭豆腐 (Chòu dòufu) lol. I had both the fried version and the soup version with blood cake and the the soup version in my opinion was so much tastier. Awesome video guys, made me miss Taiwan!
awesome! had to save the best for last 😂 we love the fried, crispy version. hope you had a great trip!
Beautiful journey, thank you for taking us along with you 😊 One of your best videos ❤
Thank you so much!
Another Amazing Episode👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉
To be honest, I am a full time UE food delivery rider in Taipei since 2020 and I am from Taipei 100% MIT & I have to admit it I still get lost IN this night market, the other night markets I have no issues at all…
Love your video for the uplifting energy. I’m native Taiwanese. May God bless you guys!
Really appreciate how you two travel. Doing some research for my upcoming trip to Taiwan. Taking my family to visit family but it is only my third visit, including being born there. Lisa's experience resonates with me. I am Taiwanese-American but my parent from Taiwan has passed. Most of my knowledge of Taiwan is academic. This trip is for a significant birthday and feeling all the emotions. Thanks for sharing your experience and itinerary!
I can't believe I watched basically an hour long vid, but it was great! Excited to see more 3 Days vids now that i've stumbled upon your channel!
Your lantern release was beautiful and meaningful! Thank you for sharing that.
Love Taipei so much! Amazing place to keep things affordable while enjoying some top notch food, attractions, nature, etc 🙂 Great of you guys to sift through everything to give us some of the best recommendations!
We couldn’t agree more! Such a beautiful place
I may be moving to Taiwan soon. This video gives me a great idea of what to expect, and covers so much more ground than I did when I previously visited Taiwan. Thanks, y'all!
awesome!!
You two are such a lovely, positive beautiful couple! My son and I watched this to prepare for our eventual trip to Taiwan, and now we want to watch all your other videos.
We have enjoyed your adventures so so very much. Definitely our favorite Vlogers. Watched them ALL. True story.
In September we are also walking the Camino (Lisban to Santiago) mostly for personal self reflection. Both of your walks have been an amazing, welcome and insightful look at the road ahead.
I was surprised no one mentioned Will Arnett in the Q&A "look alike / remind me of " question. Ok, maybe not twins but, that enjoyable quirkiness all the same.
Thanks again! A real pleasure to enjoy the adventures and all the skills / work you both put into your videos! Grateful.
Who's vlogs do you follow? We know a couple as there have been some crossed vlogs we watched.
Take care and all our best, Mike and Betty, Vancouver Canada.
hi Mike and Betty! thank you for the kind words and watching ALL of our videos! :) what an incredible journey Lisbon to Santiago will be! And we can definitely see the Will Arnett tie :) Buen Camino!
Sweet, I love these longer vlogs from you two!
More to come!
Having just discovered your channel, I am loving every moment of it. The food tours are unique, and I admire Josh's optimism when things do not go well. And I really appreciate the daily budget recap. Lisa, I enjoyed your wanting to know your mom's take on what happened when she was young; those conversations are priceless. I am recuperating from colon surgery at home, and you all are chasing away my boredom.
You guys are fun to watch, thanks! Going there in 1 week and doing some research
I love that you guys don't mind about the video, and you keep the real pace of your travel, not a heavily edited pace for vlogging.
ahhh! we already wanna go back to Taiwan! The fried chicken and boba tea was our favorite!!!
we miss it too!! :)
Glad you got out of the city. Very nice video. I’ve never considered Taipei before, but after seeing your video I have added to my list to visit. Thank you for showing us around.
You guys did an amazing job with this video! I often find people try too hard and I find it annoying but you both just seem so genuine and likeable. You went to just about every place I went on my trip a few years ago. Glad you had a good time!
Great vlog. Thanks for taking the time to share it.
Awesome trip! Enjoyed following you here. And the food!!!
I’ve been to Taiwan many times. I always come back with a full wallet and the happiest of memories. Not one bad experience in living there for over 18 months.
Why am I only seeing this channel for the first time? Super refreshing you two! God bless and more videos please! 🙏🏽
Great video! Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
thank you for watching!! :)
I am so happy i stumbled upon this Taiwan vlog. Incredibly done, can't wait to see all your other videos 😊 p.s just added Taiwan to my bucket list!
Delightful wonderful vid featuring Lisa and Josh spreadin the flavor of Taiwan literally out of the screen , i never been to Taiwan but Lisa and Josh sure making me give that a serious consideration , Thank You😅
so glad you enjoyed--wish we could also transmit the smells and tastes too! hope you get to visit soon!
@@LisaAndJosh both of you makes the whole world beautiful
I spent some time living in Taiwan and I absolutely love it. This is the best vlog I've seen that shows all the different sides of Taipei!! Love it, can't wait to go back:)
Just WOW! AMAZING!!!
Beautiful vlog, bought back memories of my trips there in the past.
This is my first time watching one of your videos and I'm super impressed! You guys are so personable and offer a ton of information while also being entertaining. Also, your videos are SO clear and colorful and shot so well. Very impressed! I can't wait to go to Taipei :).
thank you for the kind words!!
Thank you for sharing how to use the bike system and your experience. Documenting the process is helpful to people really trying these things.
happy to help!
my new favorite travel vloggers :) thank you so much for sharing your experiences during your trips!
Night markets are our favorite thing in the whole world and that one looked amazing!!!
There are so many in Taiwan that are so incredible!
i just found this channel and i love both of yall, such great caring people. thank you for the advice
Just now watching this all the way through. We head there on Thursday and y'all (as usual) made us even more excited (and prepared.) Thanks! :)
Hello, I was born in Taiwan. My family immigrated to USA when I was 6.
I went back to Taiwan for the first time couple years ago.
Your video reminded me of that trip. Thank you for sharing!
Excellent video. Brought back a LOT of memories for me and also helped me add to my list for when I am back there in October to Taichung and Taipei. Taipei is the best. My only problem with your video is that it could easily be 3x longer. Enjoyed every minute. 😎🇹🇼 Need more Taiwan! I got super emotional at 24 mins in - as you talked about your mom and her leaving Taiwan - and just realizing that as amazing as these places are there is such a rich history that we either never hear about or like you mention - just don't think to ask about.
Great video! Taiwanese here (but living in California for the past 20+ years). You hit all the great and fun spots that I would also hit whenever I go home. I was surprised that Lisa had never tried the "car wheel" cakes though. Maybe you have never lived in Taiwan for an extended period of time. They are literally everywhere including at night markets. Those and the "pepper buns" are two of the things I miss most and my "must-eat" items whenever I go home to visit. Watching you enjoy the food made me want to go back soon; can't wait!
Well now look where I have been, thanks to you two! Wow! Superb video, loved every minute of it. Thank you.
Not sure if anyone has explained the wooden slices in the temple, but it’s called “Bua Buai” in taiwanese. Basically it is to ask the deity a question and depending on how the faces of the wooden pieces land, it will have a yes/no/unknown answer. It is also used to communicate with the spiritual realm. So to get into it deeper, a “yes” or “ji buai” is when the one of the two piece has one face up and the other piece is the opposite face. A “no” or “bo buai” is both sides are the same. And unknown is when one lands in a weird position like up right on the wedge. Hope that helps haha. Also the custard cake thing is “Che lun bing” or wheel cake. 🙂 there’s a meaning behind the cake as well but I can’t think of it at the top of my head at the moment. 😄
I came here for this information. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. Our family moved to Canada when we were young, and we are planning a trip to Taiwan this fall. I have never been to the lantern town outside of Taipei---so thank you for sharing this part of the trip for us. We have also never climbed the mountain to get the city view. We can't wait to visit again!!
I just visited a Taiwan and loved creating vlogs there!
New sub here 👋 adore hearing the authentic thoughts and experiences you guys have. This makes me eager to visit Taiwan ❤
I remember my first visit to Taipei a few years ago. This reminded me that I need to return. Lisa, it was obvious that the visit there was both fantastic and emotional at the same time!❤️
Great video guys. Enjoyed it. We will be in Taipei in just over a month for a few days on our way to Europe.
Good video! I came to the US at 3 years old. So not a lot of memories, but good memories with my grandparents. Always cherish the visits as I get older. I’m with Lisa in that there was something missing growing up.
You packed a lot into 3.75 days… Jiufen, Shifen, lighting the sky lanterns all awesome activities. Hopefully this is just a part of a longer Asia adventure. It takes me a week to adjust to the time difference, so a minimum of two weeks is my rule. Keep up the great videos.
Your travel advice is always so valuable! Speaking of travel gear, have you heard about the new V4 of the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane? It's making waves in the travel community, and I thought you might find it interesting for your future trips.
Watched your video on UA-cam and enjoyed it ,we definitely had to make this trip soon . Thank you love it 😊
Love Taipei! Can't wait to visit Taichung & Tainan soon! Great Taipei video! Thanks for sharing :)
watched the whole video. You did miss yong kang street with some cool eateries and shop. I didnt go to shifen and that looked good. Great video.
We are loving this 3 day series!!! . We are loving this 3 day series!!! .
thanks so much for watching!! we're having a great time creating these :) more to come!
That was such a wholesome video! Appreciate Josh for being so curious of the culture 😊
Really enjoyed your Taipei video. My family and I just returned from a short three day and a bit more stay in Taipei. Wish I had seen your video before our trip! I wasn’t sure if we would be able to withstand the weather and sightsee so much. We left with definitely the desire to go back! Always more food to try and places to see! Good luck with the channel!
thanks so much!! we can't wait to visit Taiwan again soon :)
Visiting Taiwan in October and just watched this whole vid. It was wonderful!
Love 9 & 10 point!! Must do the wishing lantern and I just love that whole vibe! ❤
Just want to say I watched this video when you released it last year and it inspired me to visit Taiwan. I'm currently sat drinking coffee in Taipei rewatching to get myself pumped to visit Shifen and Jiufen tomorrow, then im heading down to Toroko NP. Thanks guys!
That is awesome!
I watched the entire video! Made me so excited to visit Taiwan in August. Love your content! Inshallah you get more followers and views and reach that UA-cam success!!!
Love you guys vlogs, looking forward to many more!
Loved watching your video. So much info. I had to take notes. 😂😂. We go back every year. Next time I‘ll def try the bike ride and JiuFen ShiFen. Thx for sharing 🎉
Awesome Awesome video! Nice Punahou shirt!

Hey hey!! Thanks so much! ☺️🤙🏽
OMG this video was almost an hour but it never got boring or I never even thought of skipping some parts bec of how enjoyable you both were!
Aloha from Hawaii! Thank you for this video. We will be going to Taiwan in October since we will be disembarking from our cruise ship in Taipei. We will be exploring our own so this video was super helpful. Subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more great videos from you both. Mahalo!
aloha dora! thank you for the message! so excited you will get to visit Taiwan! Had no idea there were cruises that stoped in Taipei--that sounds awesome :)
Actually for 965 bus if you just want to take from Jiufeng to Ruifang train station you still can get up no matter the bus is full or not. There exists a “full” situation because 965 goes on the highway after reaching Ruifang station and everyone on the bus requires to have a seat if that bus is on highways. Great videos! Hope you guys enjoy Taiwan.
im flying to taipei tmr and im super excited now! thank u Lisa & Josh!
We plan to visit Taiwan next year and your vlog helps us plan for the trip, thanks from Canada 🇨🇦 for sharing your experience! Subscribed!
so glad to hear!! have a great trip!!
Back home for almost 2 months now. And looking for tickets to go back to Taiwan in December, I love it, I need it. The people are great, the scenery stunning and the food is the absolute best. Taiwan is such a great place to visit, If yu have the opportunity to visit: don't let it pass.
couldn't agree more! :)
Great video! I’m hoping to go back to Taiwan in January. Hope you get your chance to talk to your mom about her experiences. My grandma told me about some of her classmates and relatives that disappeared during the martial law period. And the bombings during WW2. And my mom told me about when they immigrated to the US as college students, the Chinese students (not necessarily mainland Chinese, but Taiwanese Chinese), would yell and insult them if they heard them speak in Taiwanese and not Mandarin Chinese. This was during 70-80s I think when Taiwan was transitioning into a democracy. It’s stunning to think about just how much taiwan has changed since our parents and grandparents lived there.
Love the longer videos. Keep em coming 😊
So glad to hear! More coming soon :)
Don’t worry about the clothes Lisa! I’m from Thailand but live in USA, and I don’t buy clothes in Thailand. Not my style, I don’t want it to make me feel negative about myself. I’m happy, healthy and that’s enough for me.
Love everything about this! ❤️🙌🏽💪🏽
Love your video!! Thanks for sharing your experience 😊 I’m planning my first solo trip for my bday in a few months n very nervous but excited. My panic mode when Josh said they got lost but loved his response to it😊
how awesome! have a great time and happy almost birthday :)
good sharing. wish you both all the best
Josh's mandarin pronunciation is pretty good! been following you guys since the hawaii days, love to see the come up!!
Loved the video.
So glad! Thank you!
Amazing video. I’m thinking of going there this December
Oh my god, this blog is my first from you guys and its been fun watching this with you!! Got a new subscriber here! ❤
hey, awesome!!! Thank you!
What a wonderful journey through Taiwan, Lisa and Josh! Josh, hope you still remember me, Prof. Yin at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I was born and raised in Taipei and so glad to see you and Lisa enjoy your stay in my hometown. Take care and best wishes.
OF COURSE I DO!! :) best professor I ever had, who would forget that?? How are you? What are you up to these days? So happy to hear from you!
@@LisaAndJosh All is well here at UWW. Entering my 30th year teaching and growing our IT and Cybersecurity UG and Master programs. Let me know when you and Lisa return to SE Wisconsin so we can get together. Take care and enjoy your fun journeys!
That’s incredible!! They’re so lucky to have you. That would be so fun to get together, will let you know next time we are in the area. Thanks for the message!!!
What a great video ❤
Have to say I love all your videos , you both seem such nice genuine people and I always looked forward to all you uploads. Would love to see you visit the Scotland or Wales to see what you make of those countries
thanks for the kind words! we hope to keep making these for a while, so would love to visit the UK soon :)
Thanks for sharing your experience. I was there 2 weeks ago for only 3 days. There's so much more to see. Hopefully next time.
Wonderful video! Just wonder when you were there being as warm as it was. Be blessed ya'll !
Wonderful video! ❤🎉
I missed the food so much. To the memorial park, I also got sentimental. My family also never talk about this. Back then it was more like, it is a way to protect you if you don’t know about this… truly sad. 😢
Thank you for watching and for sharing as well. We understand this so well now and hope to be able to be more open with our families ❤️
The red wooden crescents that people drop in temples is a way locals communicate with their ancestors. There's three combinations of heads-heads, heads-tails, tails-tails. I forget which means which, but the responses are "yes", "no" and the last one being the ancestors just laughing at the response (so I've been told). I'm pretty sure my aunt (and many other people) would just rephrase her question til she got the answer she wanted, haha.
Planning Korea and Taiwan trip so need to see where to go here....
We will be there soon and it's our first time in Taiwan. We're so excited.🥰 Thank you for this video. ❤
Beautifully done! Thank you to both of you. ❤
While it’s exciting to see those lanterns flowing up, I couldn’t help wondering what happened to them after the burning fire was gone?
Did the lanterns land on the streets, beautiful green mountains, river, or someone’s windshield while the car is running? 🫣
Was the vendor being able to retrieve and clean up the used lanterns?
Me and my partner will be in Taiwan this weekend. This is very helpful and makes us excited in our upcoming trip. Thanks for your video. Best of luck on your channel ❤
hope you had a great time!! :)
I an hoping to get to Taiwan soon. Wonderful informative video. Wondering why you would not stay in Ximending again? I am getting so confused about areas to stay in.
