I really appreciate you being yourself, Janice. Your personality and passion comes out in each video. In other videos, I always see a person with a ton of makeup on and their faces look just perfect with hair well coiffed.
The alternate is also 24-hrs in service. Having been away for 30 some years, every time I visited Taipei this was a first-day stop. Real slice of Taipei life, tasty beyond expectation.
Watching a lot of videos about Taiwan particularly Taipei for my short trip soon. Like you, seeing the food makes me so happy. And I am very excited to eat these food! They look so delicious and comforting!
Love your videos which I discovered when I was planning a trip to my birthplace, Hong Kong. Taipei is definitely on my bucket list, primarily for the food, so I appreciate this video as well!
What a great video on your fav foods in Taiwan..The food is DELICIOUS..I loved the braised pork and rice and the pepper bun they both looked so good ..I can’t wait for the next video Janice ..x❤️🥰💗
Thank you for including the places in the description. I’m heading to Taiwan in January and it absolutely scares me to death as a foreigner not knowing where to go for good food, so thank you!!!
Agreed. I had it nearly everyday I was there. Their lunch box (in mandarin “Pien Tang”) is so great.A local relative took us to what looked to be a very humble local restaurant non-Michelin but well known for locals in Tai Chung for their braised pork belly. It came in one big piece around 7-8cm tied with some strings. They didn’t even bother to cut it smaller, but goshhh…..that was the best pork belly I ever had in my life. Legend said, it was cooked for hours and hours to get the fat out but yet not losing the fatty taste and marinated them with some chinese herbs. It sounds impossible but it is indeed possible. Fatty but healthy 😀Taiwanese know how to cook pork so well PS. That place sold out their pork belly in just 2-3hr. You’ve got to wait approx. an hour or more before the new batch came
Great video Janice! With the Michelin Star, Fu Hang gets a lot of hype, so the line up is crazy!! Their signature thick bread is something not everyone makes, so it is worth a try if you can get up early to avoid the line. I'd only go when I'm jet-lagged and is up at 5-6am. The Yong He Soy Milk King was my neighborhood joint growing up, and honestly, there are a few other similar breakfast joints, they are all very very good. Trust me, you didn't miss much when you decided to get out of that 2-hour line.
I don't queue for food either. It seems normal in places like Singapore, Tokyo, Taiwan to queue up for the most famous food place but you can walk around the corner and get same food with no queue.
Hi Janice, you oretty much cover the best foods in Taiwan 😂😍👍 My personal favourites are beef noodle & I do add chilli oil & pickles 😂 Oven Bread Braised pork rice yummy Jao Tiu ( bread dough) Soup dumplings 😄
Really nice vlog on Taipei "must eats". Enjoy the contrast in food styles from H.K. to Taipei. Underscores the variety of Chinese cuisine. My favorite in your video was the Xiaolongbao (小笼包) and the soymilk with Youtiao. Thanks for the vlog.
Two hours is a long wait! I wanted to try a highly recommended udon restaurant in Tokyo and they had a great system where you get a ticket at a kiosk in front and you can leave and come back, all the while tracking your number on a website on your phone, so you're not glued for hours in front. It actually took about 3 hours and I was one of the last people in line when I went back, as the cutoff was reached shortly after I got my ticket. It was worth it!
LOL the soy milk line. I remember there's a simiar long line in downtown San Francisco selling Chinese traditional cakes. It's like waiting for new iPhones.
to be honest, fu huang is so-so but for us, the better ones are from the south where we often stay (family) and the mom and pop/family run ones are more flavourful
I think that it's hard to taste the differce between the popular and very good spots that are less crowded. I was in Taiwan in july. Very hot. So many places to eat.
has anyone been to Fu Hang Soy Milk?? was the soy milk out of this worldddd and worth the 2 hour wait? 🤯 *edit* - I've added google map links to all the locations!
Personally didn't feel it was worth the wait tbh. Quite overrated for those exposed to soy milk. Still worth a try for those who never had soymilk before though.
😊😮😢❤ hey God blessing friends..lovely to see hear. Unless it's my busy bee ? Have seen your bufet. Yumy tasting great menus food. Lately cheers bona appetite 😊😅❤ thank you so much😊😅
I lined up for Fu Hang for about 15 mins and I hate lining up for anything so that's about my limit. It was good but I definitely wouldn't line up for it (if I was a lining up person!) Taiwan had such great steet food though!
@janice next to the braised pork rice place at the start is the most amazing pork belly bao. Don’t let the purported wait times at Fu Huang scare you. It moves so fast that you’ll only be in line for 30 mins at most. It’s worth going to once, I wouldn’t rush back unless I was taking somebody new. The soy milk is amazing, food is ordinary breakfast. Best breakfast I had was up in the mountains near sunmoon lake
Just wondering, is it hard to order food without speaking Chinese especially the ones that are family/small restaurants that are not catered for tourists? Thanks.
We were in Taipei 2 weeks ago. I really miss everything in Taiwan. Hope to be back again. Always love the food, the kindness of the people & the vibes.❤😊
The price of ordinary food is so cheap there, you can't find anything equivalent in Sydney with similar price. A very bad tasting noodle soup will cost about 15+ AUD now.
Most of the time, the highly rated eateries by the media is 80% disappointing for me. I travel widely and have been all over Asia. I literally give up tracking down these overrated eateries only to roast them after trying their fare. Not worth your time to queue. The food I truly enjoy most are the ones I sniff out myself by chance. I go with my gut instincts. 😅😂
Overall an ok breakfast place, food is decent, soy bean is what you would have normally expect. Just the queue does not justify the quality. Not a WOW! Just because it’s a Michelin. 😂
I lived there 15 yrs. That pepper cake huzhou bing or whatever isn't even that good. I love those but that franchise is over priced and not very good. It used to annoy me when people would constantly recommend it because their little uncle told them. My fave was in xinyi district. Way better. $35 nt
I really appreciate you being yourself, Janice. Your personality and passion comes out in each video. In other videos, I always see a person with a ton of makeup on and their faces look just perfect with hair well coiffed.
Well done for not joining the 2 hour queue. The alternative place looked amazing 😍
The alternate is also 24-hrs in service. Having been away for 30 some years, every time I visited Taipei this was a first-day stop. Real slice of Taipei life, tasty beyond expectation.
manifesting one day i’d get to travel taipei to eat all their delish food! gosh i love their cuisine so much 🥹

I'm travelling to Taipei in May and got a heap of tips from this video. Cheers for sharing, love your content
Me, too! I can't wait to experience the culture, food, and the country as much as it's possible in one month.

Ah, just watch a few videos on Taipei street food and you’re good to go. I will be there next December and have found this very useful.
Hi Janice! I'm glad to see you're putting out videos more regularly. Love your content and really hate the long pause between videos.
I love the braised pork rice, favourite dish in Taiwan 🤤
It was incredible ☺️

I’m heading to Taichung in December (2024). Please give name and address of this place. Thank you.
I had the pepper buns when I was there in September. We got them fresh from the oven. They were so good!
I went back to Raohe again just for the buns!
foreigners prefer the bacon basil egg pancake... trust me, it is so good
We have similar palates and your food choices are xlnt! You are so humble and sweet. On to 100 subs!! You're the best!! 🤗❤️😋👍👍
This was our food bible while we were in Taipei. Thank you so much for the map links and for the easy cut/paste xiao long bao menu!!!
It all looks so good, I miss Taiwan. I want to visit again.
watching this while eating dinner and living vicariously through you
ahah what were you eating?
@@JaniceFung tomato pasta, not as exciting as what you were eating 🥲
yeah beef noodles are probably our first go-to dish when we go to Taiwan
Well done! Taipei was my home for 3 wonderful years…..your vid made me homesick!

Can't wait to go to Taipei and try some of these! I'm definitely with you on the not waiting two hours for food. That is 2222 LONG!
Janice, I'm glad you did this Taiwan food tour. Short, but
managed 7 spots.
I wouldn't wait 2 hours for that soy milk breakfast either
Just got back from taiwan and the Tangyuan was soo good that we went back to Raohe just for that!
I know right! I went back to Raohe again for the pepper buns haha

Fu Hang is the best Chinese brekkie in town, but I agree: two hours is too long to wait. Cheers, Guy
A lot of great food along the alley of Jiufen
yes I did go Jiufen and loved it
Always interesting and entertaining

Love the video. I notice some vloggers post straight Google links to the restaurants in the description much easier for us to find it :) thanks
good point! will make an edit to my description tonight :)

All foods look amazing. Personally, I would add oyster omelette and tem-pu-la in the list.
Ooft yes absolutely re oyster omelette. I’m not sure what tempula is? Tried to look it up on google but couldn’t figure it out 😅
@@JaniceFung 甜不辣, I think the name may have come from Japan. It's fried fish cake, famous Keelung street food.
Will check that out next time!
@@JaniceFung I believe it's tempura.
What month was this filmed?
Fu Hang is good but not worth a 2 hour wait. Maybe 20 min. Most other soy milk places are as good or better.
Wow it’s Very great content
You are right not to wait for 2 hours, i wont too 😅.
I miss Taipei. Food was good. No way I will stand in line for the soy milk. For good BBQ here in the US, I will stand for 4-5hrs.

How do you go with the language? As a solo traveler
You do not need to speak Mandarin. You can either speak English, or just point. Most Taiwanese are very friendly!
There weren't many Xmas decorations in Donki
Just wondering, is it hard to order food without speaking Chinese especially the ones that are family/small restaurants that are not catered for tourists?
Thanks.
Well on the menu use some pointing or body language, they will know what u want

it's not chrysanthemum syrup on the shave ice. it's osmanthus syrup.
