I always get so upset when I see those questions being asked. Not only is it not our business, but it could also be really damaging if the person might not be able to have kids or has miscarried. Also, why are those questions always directed at women?!? As if a woman's sole purpose is to be a baby-making factory.

Idea for The Sorry Guys episode: I think it would be cool to have a discussion about how to merge different styles, especially when your partner has very strong opinions/ a lot of professional knowledge about design. You could rate different styles individually to show how different your sensibilities are, and then hear about how the guys get involved when you're designing for your own homes, where you have to keep in mind the other person's opinions. You touch on this when you're designing your own places, how to hold space for their tastes, but it would be nice to hear it straight from Austin and Elliot.

I'm glad you talked about the not having kids topic, and I love that most of you are leaning to it, people need to understand that women don't necessarily want to be mothers, we're so much more than that and life has so much to offer to us with no kids.

Also to all my fellow ladies worrying about biology's timeline when you yourself haven't decided yet, you can talk to your doctors about egg freezing! It's not always the best option (not a guarantee, can be expensive, does require a lot of hormones), but it's at least AN option to consider, and more and more companies are offering some sort of health insurance benefit to help offset or even fully cover the costs.

I wholeheartedly agree with you and appreciate the TSG talked about this. I struggled for a long time with “that’s not what I want but it’s what’s expected of me so I’d better get over it...” Hearing other women talk about this so honestly normalized my decision and made me so much less afraid of judgement.

    • @nathalie5064

Think the same here :) Thanks for talking about it and for "normalizing" that no, not all women want kids, and yes you can have a nice and fulfilling life as a human being/woman without having to procreate. Being asked constantly, when you are in your 30s and in a relationship, for when you plan on having kids is so annoying and put so much pressure on you, like something is wrong with you...
I feel less alone when others voice that no, it's probably not in their plans and that's actually okay.

New content idea: Reimagining your own spaces with a totally different design style or color scheme than you normally like. Ex. Becky shows a board/sketches of her living room in a shabby chic style, or Kelsey rethinks her dressing room in an industrial style. Basically adding a new constraint to one of your spaces but make it work so it's still "you" and you'd like to live there.

I really appreciate you all being willing to answer the children question! It is such a deeply personal topic, but because we are starting to break away from the expectation and norm, I love to hear other women talk about their perspective now that alternative family structures are more widely accepted. Personally, I know that I've always wanted children, but I love to hear other women talk about their feelings on if/when they have children of their own. It's such a big and incredibly personal decision and while nobody is obligated to talk about their feelings about it, I greatly appreciate when people do because it helps continue forging the path ahead around the topic of leaving the choice open. Always great content!💕

I think it is a testament to you having made some really good decisions that you don’t have to be the bossy boss very often. I don’t think you’re hiring people who don’t show up for work or are late all the time. That is a really useful skill, and if you say you’re able to work with your staff 90% of the time as if you are friends that means you have that skill. I’m sure that, like you said, it has a lot to do with the fact that everyone cares about what you’re putting out. They just sound like really easy people to work with, and part of that is down to good hiring and part of it is just down to good people.

For having the “Sorry Boys” on, you should do - I think it was the newly wed game? - but girls answer questions ahead of time, then boys are asked the same questions, but they have to write what they think their girl answered :). It would be fun to see if they can pick out your style taste. Oo! OR girls style a shelf, picture is taken, shelf is unstyled, boys have to try and style the shelf agin as close as possible to what their girl might have done. I think it would be fun! :)

Honestly, apart from all projects and stuff, your business and how you seem to run it really inspires me. Many channels I watched have disappeared years ago, -and I respect them all- I know how hard it is to keep it sustainable, as well as personal stuff that might've happened.
You girls trying to keep boundaries, renew yourself, take lessons and honestly communicate -after all these years- to create a sustainable business is giving me hope on a similar path. I personally connect with knowing how people love big projects and they do feel so fulfilling, however they are so taxing and complicated to do so often. So I love the solution you've found with "from the workshop floor", I love it, many people seem to love it, that's great! It seems a few of my favorite creators have also chosen a more straightforward and conversation based content to fill that gap, like livestreams... Anyway, this gave me a few ideas and more hope... For me, I just don't know if I want kids and don't really like them, but I do feel the time limit for making this decision. Especially as I'm getting older, I get asked this question a lot and people try to convince me that I'll eventually change my mind and will want kids when I say I don't know. I think the kids question is something that not everyone understands as inappropriate. In some cultures it is the way of life to think this comes next, but I think I'd rather someone not have kids because it is expected, but rather because they truly want them. I get asked almost by everyone when I visit my in-laws' country. Which is not great, because while me and my husband been together for a long time, just like Becky and Austin, we want to wait because we just want to live our own life for now. Apparently it is now to the point people are gossiping that we can't have kids! I am not even 30 yet, it is so so silly.

I have left strong comments in the past and I still watch your channel. This was very interesting and insightful. I think any questions or comments about babies, bodies or boyfriends are really out of bounds. I’m sorry you have had comments like that. Mostly, I have issues when the content is repetitive, or it seems like filler or the outcome is sloppy and is a waste of viewers time. I think intention is so important and that is why I loved Rachel’s project series and Rochelle’s woodworking projects. They have goals and achievable outcomes. I loved Becky’s Robot video and I love Kelsey’s focus on sustainability. The reason I watch your channel is to learn new skills or diy techniques. I have worked in both nonprofit and corporate environments, from grassroots to international. I think it’s amazing that you’ve been pioneers in the UA-cam arena. It’s a real mix of having authentic content, personality, and entertainment. That’s really difficult and complex. I think telling viewers that you’re evolving was really smart and talking about your video process was very insightful.

I agree with you ladies on the work life balance and taking your time to enjoy the journey, not rushing to cram more and more in and burn yourselves out. This coming from somebody who burnt out in 2015 from taking on too much and being stressed and not having the time or energy to take care of myself, I got sick and never recovered, to this day I’m chronically ill and housebound because my body just can’t recover. Think permanent covid lockdown since 2015, but also mostly reclined on bed or sofa because no energy to function normally. Rest and balance is so important. You’re doing great! 👍🏼

I think a fun boys video would be having them do a challenge using their opposite gifts/diy skills. Austin seems more handy vs Elliot is a great cook. See how they fare doing both and the sgt/instagram polls gets to decide the winner, or it can just be fun without the competition if that might create tension? It would be cool to highlight their creative outlets too!

I love Rochelle's and Kelsey's take on kids. Because I am exactly like Rochelle and definitely a lot firmer than how she phrased it, and Kelsey saying she is selfish is not a bad thing. It takes an incredibly selfless person to be a parent and not enough people think this decision through more! OH SORRY BOYS CONTENT! Maybe like a DIY Christmas/ birthday/ anniversary etc present? I lovedddddd it when Austin filmed the gate tutorial by himself, very wholesome content we stannnn

To answer your question Kelsey, I am a bit ashamed to say that I'm really satisfied with the kids question. Tbh, I have always wondered - not because it matters, but just because I (and probably other viewers) feel like you ladies are our friends and we are connected to you!! (in our minds hahah). I'm around the same age as you, at the same point in my life, living in Toronto, DIYing my way through it...etc. Becky's answer could have come straight out of my mouth! 100% on point with what I'm thinking today. Really just makes me feel like I'm not the only one out there that thinks this way! Thanks for opening up ❤

Yes exactly! When you watch people's videos for years you feel a connection to them , like they are your friends even though they have no idea you existed 😂 and you just wonder about their lives as you would your own real life friends. It's natural to wonder and be curious. Im definitely not condoning people who ask rudely like they are entitled to your personal life though.

I am a parent, and I am interested in DIYs for kids. I'm sure a lot of your OG fans are as well. There are ways to make parent DIYs without having to become parents yourselves. Getting time to DIY as a parent is difficult, and having help from skilled friends and family members is immensely appreciated. It's a good idea to have an experienced parent's eyes on a design for kids to point out any red flags.

Love this episode. Learning a bit more about your personal choices, but mainly about the progress that you made and the stuff that happens behind the scenes is really nice! Also the kids part, you handled that very well and I totally agree with you. It is very disrespectful to just assume that you want to have kids, we as woman can make different choices and all of them are totally okay and amazing.

what a great episode! The reason why some of us are sad that there are less Tuesday episodes is that so far there has been little communication about long term schedule changes. Since you said you have the rest of the year planned, could you give us some insights? Something like, (almost) every Saturday a video and then 1-2 videos per month on a Tuesday? I'd personally would rather have you say "Saturday every/every other week and then sometimes on Tuesday" than to check UA-cam on Tuesday evening and see, that there is no new video, again.
Thank you for all the years of teaching and entertaining so far, I am looking forward to seeing what else is to come!

Rochelle, I 100% agree with that knowledge from the age of 12 that you didn’t’ see yourself having children. When I was little, my cousins’ Barbies had kids and white picket fences. My Barbie traveled the world and had two dogs. I was like 8 years old when I wrote that story. I’m 47 now and am a step-mom (as of 2020) and I’m now a mom but … I knew forever. I just related hard core to your statement. Thank you all for being so honest. Love the channel.

I love From the Workshop Floor so much. For me it feels like videos are coming out more frequently. We get to see all of you more often which is something I’ve read people have wanted for a while in comments. Specifically all of you together, but I’ve absolutely loved having people like Anne and Nina on as well.
The bigger makeovers are definitely what I’m here for as well as I love a good before and after, but also the smaller projects have been fun to see as well - like items that have been made for a larger project. Overall love the current video schedule!

I've noticed that TSG has been focusing on bigger projects recently, and I'm honestly a big fan! I never loved the episodes that seemed to be filmed just for filler, and the resulting projects just felt wasteful imo. I do love when we get deep dive episodes on specific details that ended up being a part of a bigger project though! And these Saturday episodes have been a great addition too!
