I stayed up until 4am as an American to watch this game live, and it was one of the best games I have ever watched. The atmosphere, nonstop action, and drama throughout the game were amazing. Aussie Rules has quickly become one of my favorite sports to watch from afar.
Definitely worth the watch. I haven't seen a game like this since I was a kid, we lost to Carlton in 1979 by 5 points. Back then Colliwobbles was a curse, now-a-days it's a badge of pride. It's how you play tat really matters. Well done to both sides, Lions (old Fitzroy to me) almost had it. FYI: "Colliwobbles" refers to the period between Collingwood's 1958 and 1990 premierships, where the Magpies reached nine AFL/VFL Grand Finals for eight losses and a draw in 1977

As an nrl fan who has been watching my game since I was born, I have recently started watching afl and on what a sport! This game was insane had me standing up for the whole 4th quarter…. This sport is amazing! Will definitely 100% start following afl more! Never knew it was THIS exciting.

Passionate Carlton supporter for 30 years here, all I've got to say is well done Collingwood. Macrae is a gem of a human & coach. Fantastic grand final. Too many ducks payed though, umps should have let plenty of those ones go. Some weak 50's for both teams too. Last advantage should have been brought back, but imagine if a Lions player marked it & the umpire DID bring it back, there'd be more uproar.
In the umpire's defense as well, not 30 seconds prior Daniher had marked it and immediately played on with the snap kick. So it's not out of the question for him to assume that Brisbane were doing the same here.
He would not of brought it back because if you listen to the umpires call of advantage the ball was in motion well above the pack of players, but bad call from that umpire, the footy gods were on Collingwoods side throughout September and it's fair to say that they have used up a couple of years of good luck just in one September
Another honourable mention has to be for Zac Bailey. That smother, crumb and goal was one of the greatest goals I have seen in a while. That is what I would call a 1% 'ter.
good goal if you ignore the obvious 50 for not following his man out of the 50. He played really well though besides that moment to be fair though, I would of had nightmares of him for years if we would have lost
It was absolutely outstanding play all round. Love Grand Finals for the mid-half forwards who often have special moments. Would have been worthy of the Norm Smith if he'd kicked another one or two goals and the Lions got up.
What a game. Exactly the kind of Grand Final we want. For 3 Quarters, we couldn't tell who would win. And then it wasn't clear till deep in the 4th. Well done to Collingwood. Better with the ball, better disciplined, and the better side overall 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
30 scoring shot's to 21 and they won by 4 point's...they should honestly consider themselves lucky to a certain degree....but grat's to them , at least brisbane pushed them all the way and made them earn it . at least my daughter will be happy .

The day I was released from hospital, was the same day that Collingwood won the grand final in 2010. Seeing as I became a teenager this year, and they won the grand final (after 13 years) I feel lucky and accomplished to see my team that I've barracked for my whole life, win a grand final. My dad and I cried when it ended, I will truly never forget that moment ❤

you'd think commentators would understand the advantage rule. Advantage is taken by the player, not the umpire. After the whistle is blown, he steps inside Miochek, goes to snap the ball over his shoulder and is tackled. The moment he borked miochek and turned to snap the ball, is the "advantage" the player has taken on. Right call by the umpire.

It's just people with an anti-Collingwood bias. They'll ignore all the incorrect calls that went in favour of the Lions and the fact that they won the free kick count.....but then they'll jump up and down over the calls that went against the Lions.

As a Collingwood supporter, I can honestly say, this was one of the greatest GFs I've ever watched in all my 50+ years, admittedly made sweeter with the Magpies victorious but if we lost, it would have been with dignity against one of the most worthiest opponents in the modern era. Lions supporters should be proud regardless 🫡
I feel for John Noble. Not sure if he wasnt packed at all through finals based off team makeup. He deserved a medal around his neck aswell. Hes been huge for the club. To all the injured boys who aren't wearing a medal tonight. We couldn't get here without you. Love ya pies. ⬛️⬜️ for life.
Just unfortunate. If he played, Pies may have lost. Every player played their role and they only won by 4. If you took out Mcreery, who is the one that replaced Noble in first week finals, then you potentially lose those goals Mcreery set up. As Noble would ha e been half back, would have lost that half forward run of McCreey. It's just bad luck. Hopefully he gets one next year.

How were they "clutch all season long"? Lions beat the Wobblies twice easily. And kicked more goals in the grand final. And got screwed by the umpires in key moments and still nearly won.

What a game! The advantage call I think was pretty mental. Would have loved to have seen what could have happened at the end there if the kick went back to Lauchie Neale just outside 50. I'm not much of an AFL fan but that was really entertaining. It was like watching a 90s AFL game, instead of the boring posession hogging game the AFL has become.
Even as a West Coast fan, I was so stressed watching the game because me and my dad made a bet the if Collingwood won he would drink a glass of hot dog water and if Brisbane won I would.
Ridiculous advantage call aside, Collingwood were unquestionably the better team and really should won by at least 40 plus points giving all those astronomical behinds. Nonetheless they once again showed an absolute top tier mentality in that 4th Quarter to just defend and see the game out.

I am 62 years old and I've seen The Pies lose a lot of close finals. I felt for the Brisbane coach: damn good coach and damn nice guy too. He has been close now a few times. He deserves to win a flag. Maybe next year.

There's a lot of anti-Collingwood bias in the comments, nobody mentions the incorrect 50 metre penalty and goal that was awarded to McCluggage that kept the Lions in the game...but everybody wants to mention that incorrect advantage call (when Brisbane were still behind on the scoreboard anyway). At the end of the day, the better team on the day won.
And what about the Starcevich high tackle that cost the Lions a goal? Hit across the jaw, gets penalised for the holding ball, and a goal is kicked. Disgraceful. Collingwood weren't the better team, which is why they scores less goals.

Collingwood were the better team, more hitouts, more inside-50s, more scoring opportunities, less turnovers. Collingwood were in the lead for most of the match. Collingwood's inaccuracy at goal was the only reason the Lions were still in the game.
As a non supporter of either club, Dees albeit ..that advantage was actually taken by Bailey, he heard the whistle. He shat himself, because he knew Neale wouldnt be able to nail a goal from 60 out after the siren (not that it would have been after the siren,but they clearly were not aware of the time left) .. Looking back now, the umpire actually made the right call. At the time I thought it was BS, however I was about 20 deep.
Correct. Also Brisbane had slightly the better of the umpiring and Collingwood had 9 more shots at goal. Only Collingwood haters say they shouldn’t have won. I just laugh at them

I always remembered he didn't like the Pies (or it was some or their fans) but man I was super proud to see their win today! Haven't followed the AFL in yonks & man this was a ripper of a match to get me following the footy again!!

I don't know about 5-goal better team but they did miss a few gettable chances, but so did the Lions. It didn't have that feeling of "that miss will cost them" because there were so many superb finishes throughout the game by both sides.

NRL is objectively the superior sport. When someone misses a mark in the AFL it's like watching 100 chickens scratching at each other in a coop.

you'd think commentators would understand the advantage rule. Advantage is taken by the player, not the umpire. After the whistle is blown, he steps inside Miochek, goes to snap the ball over his shoulder and is tackled. The moment he borked miochek and turned to snap the ball, is the "advantage" the player has taken on. Right call by the umpire.

It's just people with an anti-Collingwood bias. They'll ignore all the incorrect calls that went in favour of the Lions and the fact that they won the free kick count.....but then they'll jump up and down over the calls that went against the Lions.
I'm a Lions supporter but I have to say we witness the greatest grand final ever. This is better than1989, 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2018. No doubt the greatest grand final EVER

2016 is still my favourite, wasn't as close in the end but the moments in the final were massive and legendary. The tackling pressure was nuts too.

As a Collingwood supporter, I can honestly say, this was one of the greatest GFs I've ever watched in all my 50+ years, admittedly made sweeter with the Magpies victorious but if we lost, it would have been with dignity against one of the most worthiest opponents in the modern era. Just unfortunate. If he played, Pies may have lost. Every player played their role and they only won by 4. If you took out Mcreery, who is the one that replaced Noble in first week finals, then you potentially lose those goals Mcreery set up. As Noble would ha e been half back, would have lost that half forward run of McCreey. It's just bad luck. Hopefully he gets one next year.

Ridiculous advantage call aside, Collingwood were unquestionably the better team and really should won by at least 40 plus points giving all those astronomical behinds. Nonetheless they once again showed an absolute top tier mentality in that 4th Quarter to just defend and see the game out.

I am 62 years old and I've seen The Pies lose a lot of close finals. I felt for the Brisbane coach: damn good coach and damn nice guy too. He has been close now a few times. He deserves to win a flag. Maybe next year.

There's a lot of anti-Collingwood bias in the comments, nobody mentions the incorrect 50 metre penalty and goal that was awarded to McCluggage that kept the Lions in the game...but everybody wants to mention that incorrect advantage call (when Brisbane were still behind on the scoreboard anyway).

As a non supporter of either club, Dees albeit ..that advantage was actually taken by Bailey, he heard the whistle. He shat himself, because he knew Neale wouldnt be able to nail a goal from 60 out after the siren (not that it would have been after the siren,but they clearly were not aware of the time left) .. Looking back now, the umpire actually made the right call. At the time I thought it was BS, however I was about 20 deep.
Correct. Also Brisbane had slightly the better of the umpiring and Collingwood had 9 more shots at goal. Only Collingwood haters say they shouldn’t have won. I just laugh at them

I don't know about 5-goal better team but they did miss a few gettable chances, but so did the Lions. It didn't have that feeling of "that miss will cost them" because there were so many superb finishes throughout the game by both sides.
@@jsequine927 Collingwood plays the scoreboard, so depending the score they put in their game plan. They had alot of snaps narrowly go through for points where every brisbane snap went straight through.
