Best GF ever. this one is particularly special cause I really wanted it for Sidebottom, Pendlebury and Howe who have just been amazing for the Pies for so long
My family are Richmond supporters and when Bobby Hill took his ripper of a mark, we all cheered and clapped at the TV as if we were Collingwood supporters. Shortly after when Bobby kicked his goal, I said to my family “He deserved that goal” and everyone agreed with me. One of the best Grand Finals I’ve ever seen.
Thanks so much, felt the same for Dusty in '17. When he took that mark just before 1/2 time, I thought they've got this. One of my all time favourite footballers.
I am Israeli and I stayed in Australia for nearly seven years and I fell in love with footy and especially with the Collinwood team that did not win the title for 30 years. This was in 1988 and I was present at the 1990 Grand Final this one 2023GF was as much maddening asin 1990 GO PIES WE LOVE YOU.
@JG-bw6lu If soccer was so great, you wouldn't need to go to every AFL video and try to tell the world about it. It's not like we've never seen the sport before!
This grand final was BY FAR the best I have ever watched! Although I am amazed at my guys getting the win ⬛️⬜️⬛️⬜️ I was amazed at how close it was for pretty much the whole game! Collingwood was in front most of the game but Brisbane was not too far behind. And the goals… oh my! They were amazing! Bobby Hill’s mark though - dude… amazing. Superior! This game will go down in history. Massive crowd, so tense, so close, I watched the whole game on my TV at home, and I was screaming in the last 5 minutes “NO PIES DON’T LET BRISBANE GET IT” it was SO intense! So congratulations to Collingwood, but Brisbane put up the fight of all time.
To that certain tv presenter who said this morning, Collingwood beat The Lions empathetically, huh! What by 4 points and we should have gotten that kick, which Collingwood and the ref refused to acknowledge, also we travelled and we did not have 90 thousand Melbournians barricking for their team, it was very close. Brisbane was unlucky, didn't hear much acknowledgement this morning for The Lions
@@SonyCamry I agree, the game itself was amazing but there have definitely been grand finals where the flag meant so much more because of the struggles/droughts of the winning side. 2001, 2005 (and '06), 2016 and 2017 come to mind in particular.
Gaelic Footbal fan here. Just wish our game could be a bit more kick and catch like it used to be. Adore Aussie footie. Get load of the old school team song. Really great game.
wow, what a game, watched the whole match here in the UK! what a 2nd qtr from brisbane yet still went in behind! then to take the lead with 5 to go! yet collingwood still got the job done! bobby hill fantastic, cameron was excellent too! i watched the AFL as a kid years ago, started watching again recently, still dont understand all the rules , but enjoy the game loads!
Yes it's a choice but I follow Rugby league and Aussie rules football... I don't know why people compare completely different games it's like comparing golf or tennis to baseball or Cricket! I follow both Rugby league here in Australia and have been to both NRL and AFL GFS!
One of the best moments in this game as a Collingwood supporter that doesn't get a lot of attention is the Pendlebury Goal in the 3rd Quarter @ 6:13. It was a really tense period of the game and the former skipper showed all the class, poise, leadership and confidence of a 300+ Game player. The crowd noise was indicative of the moment as we could all sense the significance of the occasion.
Hard to see Carlton, GWS and Brisbane go down after some awesome football; even as a pies supporter. All have been improving the culture and standard of the game. I’m delighted that we won and of course would love to see a dynasty but equally those teams are deserving of a legacy
Not deserving at all if they're not good enough. Other teams will be back next year and no reason why Collingwood won't win more. I can see Collingwood storming way ahead in premierships
I think the two best teams made the grand final and the best team won. But I do take your point. The stand of the prelims was top notch and the three other teams can walk away feeling very proud of how they played.
New Zealander here, absolutely love AFL, wish they would bring a game or two across the ditch and try and grow the game here but the NRL and Super Rugby seem to be the only things Kiwis care about. Who knows, one day hopefully...
More important than that bro is that kids start playing. I’m sure there are thousands of kids in New Zealand that don’t have the size and shape for Rugby that can have a kick. Spread the word to the kids bro 👍 Those kids grow up and might want to earn some money playing footy in Australia . That grows the sport back in New Zealand better than playing a few games over there. We’ve done it before. Doesn’t work It’s about the kids bro👍 Boys and girls . It’s fun to play
What a Grand Final. Finally, one that lives up to the hype with 1st vs 2nd, and for that matchup to be decided by less than a kick makes it even more epic. Congratulations to the Collingwood Flagpies on their 16th Premiership, joining Essendon and Carlton as well. Although they didn't quite learn fron Melbourne's mistakes, they did enough to hold off a very brave Brisbane Lions outfit. This means that Brisbane have now lost more Grand Finals than Fremantle, Port Adelaide and GWS, not combined though. Take a bow, Collingwood. I reckon Steele Sidebottom and Scott Pendlebury should both go out winners in their amazing careers. Brisbane fought well too and their fans should be bloody proud of how far they've come. The Flagpies have now avenged TWO Grand Final losses in one day. One was in 2002 and the other was in 2018. How would GWS have done against Brisbane had the Giants won last week instead? We'll never know. This also means that I have now commented on every main match highlight of the 2023 AFL Premiership season. That does it for me for the year. Thank you all for allowing me to comment on all these highlights this year. Rock on. Blep. :3
Amazing final game and amazing sport. You guys really need to promote this sport in other countries. I am sure that league would have hundreds of millions fans around the world. That would be awesome for afl as a league for teams and players(extra revenue from tv rights). Work on that guys…give us a chance to watch this amazing sport.
If you do a google search you will find AFL is play at competition level right across the world. USAFL has 2000 registered plays with 49 teams both men and women's teams. It's played in the UK, Scandinavia, Asia Europe, South East Asia. I think more than a dozen countries have competitive AFL leagues.
@@laurencetilley9194 i know that but i am talking about not being able to watch afl outside of Australia and few other countries. In summer there is no sport to watch from middle of may till middle of August and afl season would be perfect to have in all European countries and even in North America cause there is nothing to watch beside baseball.
After Charlie's goal, the Daicos handball to Pendles from the centre clearance followed 5 seconds later by Nick's mid air gather and handball to Jordy. That is what champions do. I was there for the 2 losses to the Lions in 2002/03. Guess who was born right in the middle of those 2 losses.....
As someone who began watching the AFL this year, I must say that this was the best Grand Final that I have seen yet. Congrats to the Pies on their 16th flag!
@bsladakovic2939 I just did. It was a ripper of a game, the final part of a 2-year Grand Final rivalry between Sydney and West Coast, one of the best AFL rivalries of the past 25 years.
@JG-bw6luSoccer is boring nil all draws, soccer players falling over and pretending their opponent has hurt them.Low scoring a pathetic game I would rather watch grass grow.
@JG-bw6luBrisbane played in the Grand final and you are saying it doesn't mean much in QLD? Ever been to QLD? Look man clearly you love soccer, and that's great. But it's also very clear you know zero about what sports are played in each state. And not sure why you would even mention soccer on an AFL Grand Final highlight 😂😂😂 oh now I get it, Manchester just lost to Crystal Palace and you are salty 😢
Should have been 18.12 not 12.18. Close but not quite the same, in the drawn grand final in 1977 North kicked 9.22 to Collingwood's 10:16. They should have smashed us and went on to do just that the following week.
This is a weird sport. Namely because of how many players there are and how big the pitch is. There's no need. Just make it 10 or 11 men; they dynamics can be the same.
Im A West Coast Eagles Fan, So Dont Judge Me But Collingwood Deserved To Win After Losing To Us In 2018 But They Really Stepped Up Their Game Since Then And Look At Collingwood Now Their Premieres Now And Im Proud Of Collingwood
I’m on a holiday in italy, I’m so sad I can’t be there to watch it on tv. But thanks for putting this together for me to watch. One of the first close grand finals in a while😮
I still remember the eagles breaking the pies' hearts in the 2018 grand final. How sweet is it to watch Collingwood win the flag and West Coast finish on the bottom 🤣
I was at the 1989 Grand Final amd as a Hawthorn supporter I watched a big lead eaten by an opponemt hell bent on playing the man rather than the ball. For some time that GF has been considered the greatest due to inspired performances and player attrition. But this 2023 GF now replaces 1989 at the top of the tree. This was epic. Purely top shelf Aussie Rules football on the last of Sept for footy.
The '89 GF was incredible. Hawks with so many injured got over the line and deserved it. This was something else, from word go a see saw all the way. Its the best game I've ever seen. Thanks for your kind thoughts. I was obviously happy being a Collingwood supporter and seeing my first premiership live. Btw, Dermott is one of my all time favourites, I've emailed the Hawks requesting he be made a legend of the club. That's what he is.
From a Brisbane Lions supporter, as much as I hate the pies I just have to congratulate you. You are probably the best team at the moment and I wish you guys the best of luck for next year. I was crying about the result and you guys were probably the only team that would've beaten us this game. But in 2024, Brisbane will win the flag. GO THE LIONS!!!
Full kudos to your sportsmanship, I think to an extent that premiership was won as early as the 2014 Trade Period, when we traded in Jack Crisp, Pick 5 (Jordan De Goey) and Pick 25 (traded out to get Levi Greenwood)
Very decent of you. BTW, your supporters were outstanding this year, they just kept rolling up despite how difficult the season was. Will be back up the ladder soon.
Just listen to the Collingwood fan roar! I’m not a massive AFL supporter but that roar gave me chills. My family on my mum’s side are Collingwood mad so I was so happy for them.
Gee what a game, so intense the whole way through but the pies did it. Gongrats to both team they did such an awesome job. Collingwood forever the black and white army😂
Sydney fan here to say while I wasn't pleased to see Collingwood win, this is one the best GF's ever played and certainly the best compared to the last several years probably. Unreal contest!
Congrats Collingwood! Great to see the pies win it! And really nice to see Pendlebury & Sidebottom get another flag, having waited 13 years. I do really feel for the lions though, as they haven't won it for 20 years. Prior to 2019, they also went through some very dark patches for many seasons. It's great that they're resurgent now, but it's sad that they've had their hearts broken in the finals for 5 seasons in a row. I do hope that their premiership window remains open for a little longer and that they can get at least 1 flag before it closes.
Man Collingwood”s accuracy almost cost them the grand final. Well done to the Lions for getting all the way here and congratulations to Collingwood for becoming the season 2023 afl Premiers🎉
Yeh I reckon if that questionable free wasn’t paid it definitely would’ve been a Lions flag. Umpires always get pressed in those last 5 mins and don’t think straight. Tough luck
Yeah as a pies fan I was worried about that but they called advantage and Brisbane just booted it up in the air unfortunately for them. It just feels good to get one on them from 02 03
Bombers supporter here. Pies arguably the best side all year round but Brisbane were never far away, right to the last minute of the last day in September. The coin landed on the pies this year and that shows just how close the competition was. onto 2024

Lions supporter here. Sad to see the team lose, but that was a great game. The Pies were the better side that day, anytime we tried to push ahead they snatched back control quick. The decision to pay advantage will make this GF one of those games that everyone will say what if... which makes it more memorable. Also Bobby Hill was amazing well deserved Norm Smith recipient. Head up boys, you played well. Let's try again next year!
Beautifully said. I get the discourse around the advantage call, but it wouldn't have by no means guaranteed a goal. Brisbane were awesome, just didn't quite get firing at the right times. Helluva game
Thankyou for your good sportsmanship. The Lions played a great game and especially in the second quarter were looking extremely dangerous. Good game and good luck for next year!

@@DelusionalPerson Perhaps yeah, but there are always bad calls - comes with the ambiguous and fast paced nature of the game. But the Pies probably had the edge with that. Overall though we stopped some of Brisbanes big weapons while most of our boys showed up.
what a goal from Zac Bailey, that could have been goal of the year if it was in the regular season, but then maybe not because it was a bigger goal because of the enormity of the occasion.

Best GF ever. this one is particularly special cause I really wanted it for Sidebottom, Pendlebury and Howe who have just been amazing for the Pies for so long
2018 was good
*_idk why but the commentary made 2019 seem more exciting than this year_*
My family are Richmond supporters and when Bobby Hill took his ripper of a mark, we all cheered and clapped at the TV as if we were Collingwood supporters. Shortly after when Bobby kicked his goal, I said to my family “He deserved that goal” and everyone agreed with me. One of the best Grand Finals I’ve ever seen.
Thank you for the running commentary of what you and your family did
Forever a Magpie; always a Magpie.Gunning for history next season!?!PNG diehard.
You sure your Richmond. Lol
Thanks so much, felt the same for Dusty in '17. When he took that mark just before 1/2 time, I thought they've got this. One of my all time favourite footballers.
One of the greatest games in footy history
This will go down as one of the best grand finals of all time. If you blink the lead will change. I’ve never experienced anything like this.
Amazing! Wish we had this sport in Nova Scotia!!
That crowd wow
Yes was over 100.000.
Google in the 1970 Grand final. Over 120.000 people! I was a kid in that crowd Collingwood v Carlton.
Congratulations Collingwood as a Sydney Swans supporter. Bobby Hill definitely deserved the Norm Smith Medal 🏅🏅
Yeah the lame Syd ducks who dished up a woeful performance in last year's grand final.

@JG-bw6luaverage brain dead soccer fan struggling to comprehend people like different sports than they do
I could think of several better grand finals than this. This would still be in the top 10 though.
@@SonyCamryname them
To that certain tv presenter who said this morning, Collingwood beat The Lions empathetically, huh!
Probably the best game ever played and it was in a grand final, Well done pies
wow, what a game, watched the whole match here in the UK! what a 2nd qtr from brisbane yet still went in behind! then to take the lead with 5 to go! yet collingwood still got the job done! bobby hill fantastic, cameron was excellent too!
i watched the AFL as a kid years ago, started watching again recently, still dont understand all the rules , but enjoy the game loads!
@JG-bw6lu Soccer: beloved by lady boys the world over.

Great game from start to finish. The Lions were so brave. Congratulations to Collingwood on a much deserved win.
Spread the word to the kids bro 👍
Those kids grow up and might want to earn some money playing footy in Australia .
That grows the sport back in New Zealand better than playing a few games over there.
We’ve done it before.
Doesn’t work
It’s about the kids bro👍
Boys and girls .
Rock on. Blep. :3
I watch this at least every week ….that roar it’s just fantastic
This game was so intense. At 3 quarter time I came off the beers and had a coffee to focus 😂 thrilling game. Well done to the players.

@@andrewdean7968 haha that's hilarious. Like our focus could change the outcome of the game. What a ripper.
Daicos?
