Yep, the individuals actually responsible for the demise of Halo (i.e. Bonnie Ross, Frank O'Connor, Kiki Wolfkill) hide behind Joe Staten because they know that the community actually has respect for the man. They know that we won't drag him, if only for his tremendous contributions to Halo since its inception. The aforementioned execs at 343 are undeniable cowards.

My dad and I have always loved playing campaign co - op together, and killing each other over and over when we were confused about what to do... I don't get how its harder to just put two chiefs and divide a screen than to link consoles together over the network with bullshit mechanics

How could they think the DNA of halo is the competitive nature? It’s bonkers, are these people humans? Like what? Let’s think back to Halo 3 multiplayer, what do you remember? The insane plays you made? Maybe, or is it jumping into a gravlift with a warthog full of friends and landing on someone and crushing them, then hopping behind enemy lines and just getting absolutely annihilated by the enemy team and then the wart hog blows up killing everyone and everyone laughs, I think it was the Act Man who said this, halo is akin to a party game, like mario party or something and it absolutely is.
Yeah he used a clip of an interview with one of the original creators "I wanted to make a party game with shooter mechanics" ... "I wanted it to be as simple as possble, as accessible as possible and I wanted it to be as fun and balanced as possible."
Then you get 343 "it's a highly competitive game" like bruh.

The beauty of Halo mp is it's flexibility to be both casual and competitive. 343's problem is that they're only looking at half the picture and as a result the competitive half is damaged as well. If Halo didn't have all the social features and fun elements it had back in the day a competitive scene would've been abysmal or downright nonexistent and 343 don't seem to understand this.
I'm sure a lot of you can relate, but some of my most fond memories of Halo's mp came from competitive matches against my older brother or friends to prove who was the better player. To me Halo has always had a competitive side, but it was always a part of the picture never the whole, and it was a byproduct of the game's rich social features and being fun.
Bungie, in less then a decade, made 3 and a half great halo games.
343, in a decade, made a call of duty clone, a titanfall clone, an attempt to recreate halo 3, and a broken collection of already completed games.

So sad for my first and favorite franchise, like if I prefer that everything that has happened since Halo 4 was just a bad dream and John still cryogenized, floating alone in the space with Cortana sadly being dead because it has happen more that 4 or 12 years without hopes that will find him, us, any close time... I'm really sad right now.
343 is 0 for 4 on their releases. I don't think this is simply a case of "Microsoft rushing them" either. They were given 6 full years (significantly more if you consider all this time after launch) and a record-breaking budget - bigger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, and even Avengers freakin' Endgame - and _this_ is what they have to show for it... 343 needs to go.
Slight correction, 343 was given 5 years for infinite, and even though Microsoft wanted Infinite to release with the Series X in 2020, they still gave them an extra year. 5, 6, 7 years, it didn’t matter, Infinite could’ve gotten 10 whole years of development like Duke Nukem: Forever got and it still would’ve been shit.
The management is absolutely incompetent, they don’t understand halo at all, they’ve done irreparable damage to the franchise, Halo had a sense of depth that you can’t just recreate after botching the games for 10 years and making a disaster of a tv series.
I’ve been playing halo for years. Ever since halo 2 on the original Xbox at a friends house to eventually getting my own and playing every major title since.
And I feel the exact way, halo is like a friend, I’ve had so much fun over the years.
I’ve honestly had more fun making fan theories of game modes, dlc campaigns, or just brand new halo titles.
Exactly the same way I started playing Halo as well. It's just a shame to see this childhood friend in such a bad state.

The death of 343’s “Halo” will open the door for a studio who actually gives a damn about the lore and the fandom to come in and develop something that long-time fans can be proud of. I’ll be excited for new Halo titles when 343 isn’t involved in the production of said titles
It’s never going to happen unfortunately, as 343 was founded for halo following the bungie’s split and Microsoft wanting one of their own companies behind development.

Indeed this does seem to be the case, which is odd **and** interesting considering if we were able to get Frank O'Connor and Bonnie Ross to fuck off and let the passionate old guard, genuine talent like Staten lead the ship, Halo would be in an infinitely (genuinely no pun intended but fuck it I guess there is now) superior state. Ironic that 343 has until recently refused to hire ex-Bungie-Halo talent aye? Considering they now curiously (re: sarcasm) seem bent on doing the opposite.

I have such an odd relationship with Halo Infinite. It’s the game that introduced me to halo, and when I hear the news about it… I get so wildly depressed. And then I actually end up playing the game and just having such a fun time, both alone and with friends. I honestly don’t see myself getting bored with it, even though content is nonexistent. So I don’t know how to feel about Infinite right now, I’m so depressed, but so hopeful at the same time
I'm genuinely glad that there's at least one person in this big mess who's having fun. I just wish I could too. Keep doing what makes you happy, man.

I am actually. I alternate between MCC and infinite. I started playing every Halo campaign legendary. I’m the middle of Halo 3 right now
halo is a sandbox party shooter that uses simplified arena fps mechanics and is balanced well enough for competitive play.

The very first halo was not competitive at all it was all about fun with friends. My first experience with halo was couch campaign co op. Then LAN matches in computer class just goofin off and having as much fun as possible.. when a guy who was super competitive got involved everyone gave him shit cause it was only about fun...this game takes fun and throws it at the wall it's terrible
If you think the very first Halo game wasn’t competitive at all, then you don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s to this day *the* most competitive Halo game with the highest skill gap, and it’s not even close. It’s the game that spawned MLG, and for a good reason. Just because your only memories of the multiplayer is goofing off in the computer lab, doesn’t mean the game wasn’t competitive.
@@europason2293 hardy Lebel, the multiplayer designer for Halo CE stated that Halo CE multiplayer was meant to be a sort of "party game" where you can play with your drunk friends on a couch. The competition was not even a consideration. Even Jason Jones trolled everyone when he did a last-minute update to the pistol which made it into a 3-shot monster weapon.

Today its one of the most competitive and high skill gap cause loser been playing it for damn near 20 years but no one else takes it that serious dude chill out
@@OmegaF77 Dev intentions are irrelevant here, the fact is that spawn manipulation and item/map control in Halo 1 2v2s provide a wider skill gap and a higher skill ceiling than the games that came after it. CE also required far far more aiming skill than any of the sequels.
For me Halo was my first FPS and holds a very special place in my heart, That being said after Halo reach the whole halo vibe changed
We have to wait until spring next year to just get a way to play without sbmm.

Im glad this content is coming, but this is the flagship xbox franchise, how on earth has it (and 343) been mismanaged this badly. They desperately need some extra help.
Certain affinity is off working on an entirely separate BR mode, why aren't they helping with the core game instead?
I played through all the campaigns on MCC pre reach addition with my Girlfriend, split screen in about a week, it was her first intro to halo. she was watching a streamer the other day and she said "I forgot Halo was fun". she hasn't played since we played those campaigns. she hasn't played H5 or Infinited due to no split screen co-op and I can't say lets jump into a match now she has her won console because it's not fun, it's work!

Bang on, the DNA of Halo is NOT the competition but the casualness - making mates over a few consecutive rounds, seeing a few friends pop online and inviting to a custom, having a laugh over glitches and exploits, and talking banter in the lobby before and after a match.
That is exactly why the last few Halo games just haven't worked for me. I think Halo Reach was the last game to have a proper party-up feature and good social systems in place like search preferences, pre/post game lobbies and a place to view each other's Spartan.

Ya know, everyone's always memeing about Halo fans under 343 being abuse victims, but I think your analogy about watching a childhood best friend slowly fall into addiction and bad influences works so much better and is so accurate. Bro, your take on the situation is nothing short of phenomenal. I was really really moved about the best friend description like a lot of other people, but it really brought it home for me that many other people have been around since the start and want it to be fun and meaningful again without it being so sweaty competitive. The analogy hit me full-force like a truck because I had a best friend as a 5-6 year old that introduced me to Combat Evolved, and as I grew into loving the series and the games went on my friend went down the exact same path you described. Him and the game... weren't quite themselves, started hanging around with the wrong people, got into drugs etc. And tbh I never got either one back, just the once in a couple years hit me up like "oh hey maybe I could come back around" and nothing ever comes of it. Talk about a moment of realization lol. Keep up the amazing work, could gladly call you a favorite channel👍

I think this is exactly how a lot of people in the halo community feel right now, myself included. It's really hard to explain why we've stuck with this franchise for so long, so yeah the game as a drug addict analogy is spot on

3:43 I can confirm this, I stopped playing back in December because the multiplayer was so bare bones and shallow I couldn't bring myself to play it again after 30 hours. I've kept tabs on the game ever since and boy am I so glad I got out when I did, back then the general halo community was so high on copium it was unbelievable. "It's just a beta, it's gonna get good next season, *playercount nosedives*, the game will have a resurgence." I wasn't buying into any of that shit and left.

Scenarios which reinforce the idea that I'm living in a simulation: 343 extends season 1 by 3 months, customers are not happy, 343 extends season 2 by 3 months, customers are even more upset, instead of striking out for a third time 343 delays season 3 via extended event (battle pass probably filled with filler shit). I bet you nothing will change too lmao, they just keep shitting into our mouths and we slurp it up as if we were told it was the last opportunity to eat for the rest of the day

Its a damn shame 343 has been allowed to get away with some many delays and disappointing announcements. I truly hope a change is coming internally as its desperately needed. I'm completely fallen off the game and there just isn't enough coming out to pull me back in. Maybe in a couple years once everything is out I'll be back but until then I'm not going to keep this game installed on my PC taking up space

I was listening to this video eyes closed, resting, but upon hearing this, I was so stunned so I just sat up and stared at my screen. Have this man ever played Halo: CE? It's the definition of unbalance and casual couch party. That's the beauty of it

Everytime 343 makes a release of a main line HALO game, it just continues to degrade.
1. Halo 4 with its lagcluster gameplay and sudden esthetic changes.
2. MCC's absolute abhorrent release state, with multiplayer and campain being broken for months.
3.Halo 5's campain being a incoherent mess of a story and multiplayer missing staple content at release.
4.Halo Infinite's missing staple multiplayer content if not being unstable, and charging $60 for just campain w/ no splits screen co op or a way to replay specific story missions.
And these are just the tip of the ice berg, never mind their sleazy monetary practices and straight up lies to the halo community.
While they have done some good like MCC and Halo 5 multiplayer content being added and stabilized. I believe 343's mistakes and broken promises just out weigh the good.
My uncle introduce me to halo when I was 10 years of age with HALO 3 on split screen co op while eating and playing all night long, greatest memories of my life. I wanted to do the same for my nephew with HALO INFINITE. But 343 made sure that won't happen.
343 has had too many chances from me as far as I am concerned. I will no longer hold hope nor support 343's stewardship of the HALO franchise...with their lies, business practices, and broken promises.

At this point, we need a full rundown of what happened with this game. Was there a complete change of direction during development? Corporate interference? Manpower/resource problems? What is the reason why this is taking so long?

There’s nothing I’ve heard in this video that I find myself in disagreement over. The analogy given at the end hits real close to home too, like damn.
Halo for me was literally the ‘one friend’ I had growing up amongst a lot of home and school life issues, and to this day just messing around with the sandbox of a given game was some of my most well-remembered memories from that era of my life.
So seeing Halo fall so far in the eyes of its own community, be it the games or the extended media, is just heartbreaking for that inner child of mine.

Who else remembers when Halo allowed you to filter matchmade games by low ping, microphones plugged in, regional area? It is almost as if Halo 3 gave users agency to choose how their matchmaking happens or something. What an idea.

Finally uninstalled Infinite to make room for other games. This franchise has been so important too me since I first played CE in 2010. It was the reason I bought a 360. Most of my time playing these games has been in the 343 era and its been an awful experience to watch this media go down in flames.
This is eerily similar to how DICE were handling Star Wars Battlefront II back in it's first year
They seemed to have scrapped split screen. What happened to their promise from halo 5?

I see returning greats like Doom having a different formula than the original but still managing to grab old fans like myself so the hope is always there but damn it looks bleak af right now for Halo and the saddest part is that Infinite, at its core, is great - plays amazingly, has an interesting campaign, some of the best art direction in the series and then it´s simply ruined by the bois upstairs
In some years the game might finally reach its potential but by then it will be too late to turn any heads or at least convince a good chunk of players to invest their time in it, those a bit more outside of the Halo bubble at least

Hyper-focusing on making your game competitive is exactly what killed Overwatch. There is no game on earth where the majority of its players (and therefore the majority of its payers, since that's all they really care about) play competitively. There aren't tens of thousands of people who are playing your game for 8+ hours a day honing their skills so they can go fly across the world with a team to win their income in a tournament. Nobody wants to sweat and struggle every single match when they play a game, and if they do that's what RANKED MODE exists for, so that people who want to focus on competition and playing against people of their own skill level have a place to go play while the people who want to focus on having fun with their friends can have a place to goof around without getting in eachother's way.
After so many years being a Halo fan. Watch your favorite license fall to pieces is just .... painful
