Nah, they were in love with each other. Even the actresses admit this. Had they been together, Rhaenyra would've given Alicent the pure confidence she needed to defy her disgusting controlling father.

1:45 speaks volumes of rhaenyra’s queerness. i thought it was merely her talking of misogyny (though i did suspect she was queer from the start), but in the context now of the mysaria kiss, alicent’s request for nyra to come with her, and even the conversation on duck/goose with laenor, i think rhaenyra has always preferred women to men. i think not only did she have to grapple with misogyny, she had to grapple with the fact that she could never be with alicent, and she would always have to marry a man. 😢
