I am old now; but when I was very young, I was diagnosed with asthma. An herbalist friend of my father’s sent comfrey root tea in a quart jar for me to take. I was given 1 cup with lemon and honey in the morning and one at night for 2 weeks. I did not have to tae the chemical drugs!! Praise God for creating such a wonderful plant. I have carried comfrey around with me to every state I lived in…..including NORTH DAKOTA, TEXAS, MARYLAND, GEORGIA, MISSISSIPPI, LOUISIANA, AND NOW VIRGINIA.
My mom came to CANADA from Denmark as a teenager with 2 other families. They did things a lot more naturally in Denmark. I grew up with having comfrey put on my severely infected ingrown toenails as a child. I remember not being very convinced at first, but was told about a story of one of the men that was from one of the families that came over with my mom. He was a carpenter and I don’t know how he ended up with gangrene in his hand, but it was so bad that doctors wanted to amputate his hand, as that was the only thing they knew to do. This man worked with his hands. That is how he supported his family. Now, I was told this story 40 years ago, so I do not know all of the details, but I do know that his wife applied concert to his hand, and he ended up healed and did not have his hand amputated.

A farmer from the Dandenong Ranges has an old gersey cow. He saw that she was ailing & he didn't want her to go so he researched a way to save her from the glue factory. He planted comfrey & then picked her a trailer full of leaves then watched as she turned up her nose at the fresh food..a few days later the farmer went to check on his old cow & was very surprised to she her munching away on the sun dried comfrey leaves. So the short story is that his old cow became a very healthy animal that continued to provide milk & lived a long happy life of semi retirement in the Dandenong Ranges & it was attributed to her diet of dried comfrey leaves in great piles lovingly picked for her by the farmer & his family.
Recently, my husband had an injury which caused costochondritis. We used comfrey poultices on his chest (comfrey + castor oil) and it healed very quickly. I made a big batch of comfrey oil this summer and I plan to make several comfrey poultices for the freezer very soon. We've never needed to turn to comfrey internally, because we've always had other herbs to use that were suitable without the possible down sides....but we use a lot of it externally. Our son suffered a burn on his arm when he touched it to a piece of hot metal (accidentally, of course). He called asking what he could use. Comfrey salve to the rescue. (I also told him to, for goodness sake, get an aloe plant and keep epsom salts in the house...) I even use comfrey salve on my chapped winter hands. Great stuff!

One question if you can help, I’ve been trying to find out if wild, comfrey, which looks like a different species and is down here, and southern Louisiana, has the same medicinal benefits as regular comfrey. All I can find are 19 century notes, saying the Native Americans used wild comfrey for some medicinal purposes, and some herbalist at the time thought it may be a substitute for regular comfrey. But I don’t see any studies or further information. Do you have any insight if wild comfrey may be beneficial for healing, torn tendons, like regular comfrey is?

I watched a video from a Nature Path . She related a story. A farmer in Australia cow had been given up by his vet. So he decided to feed the cow comfrey. If the cow was going to die any way then the comfrey would either help, or the cow would die. After a few days the cow was better. Long story short. The cow recovered .
This is really a good video. Regarding the study with rats … I read from old studies that for a person to be hurt like a rat we would have to ear 350 pounds … a day! If people were healing and not getting sick … the medicine regime would stink … (sarcastically) we can’t have that now can we?

Have you ever used it for nerve pains?
I loved your video, which is very well explained. I used Comfrey Salve to heal and old injury on my shin leg. I'm also using it in my back, but I'm not sure if it will help me to fix the cartilage between bones or if it is better to only use Castor Oil. Any suggestions?
Hi there! Wonderful video, thank you! I am making two forms of treatment for teeth and gums with comfrey leaf and root. One is an alcohol extract (plus water) as a mouthwash, and one is coconut oil extract made with low heat that I’ll use for oil pulling. Are either of those risky for use in my mouth if I don’t swallow them?
Excellent video! One question however: are leaves AND roots equally effective? You mention that a poultice can be made with roots or leaves. Do you prefer one over the other? Or perhaps a combination? Thanks so much!
I've used them both with excellent results. For ease of use I like the fresh leaves when they are available. I also like freezing the roots. But I haven't done a side by side comparison to note the differences between the two... that would be interesting!
Ive broken toe bones before.. each time it takes about 6 weeks to heal. Last time it took 3 weeks because I started applying comfrey after about a week. I broke my toe last week, same day applied comfrey oil. 7 days later mild disconfort.. still a big bruise, but able to walk mainly pain free
Rosalee...at about 16:35 in your video you talk about teas. Is there a change that takes place when comfry root or leaves are steeped for tea ? I'm a bit confused. Seems the countries Comfry is native to that the knowledgeable elders of those regions would know exactly how it's used and proper preparation processes. You're an extremely bright lady and everything your saying is verifiable. Do you teach how to make comfry poultice? If so may I ask the name of your educational video on your channel. Thank you.
I know for a fact it helps arthritis. I was doubtful at first when I started my herbal journey. I grow and make my own salves from what I learn. I decided to try comfrey. I mean what harm could it do, right? My wrist was always hurting from arthritis so I tried my salve. Within minutes my pain decreased immensely. Another dose of salve stopped the pain completely. It lasts a long time. When it started hurting agsin I rubbed some more in. I keep it with me for when I have a flare up but 2 months later I still haven't had to use it. I rub it wherever I have pain and it works.

@@bobbiejofouts1708 I'm not the person you asked, but I use comfrey in the garden as a liquid plant food. I put the leaves in a bucket with water, cover it and let it sit for a few weeks or even months (not much sun in the UK, so takes a long time to rot down). It smells quite strong! But it works really well on all sorts of plants. I dilute it in a watering can and use it once every couple of weeks or so.

Hi, does dried comfrey leaves have the same medicinal benefits? I’m not able to grow It fresh, but if I purchased it dried, can I make a poultice with it?

His ankle was always very painful as he got up to walk after he had been sitting for a while but applying the salve at night gave him relief during the next day. When he stopped using it the pain came back…….how long should he keep using the salve? The doctor said that he has arthritis forming on the ankle joint
Hi Irene, I am glad to hear the comfrey salve is helping your husband. I can't really give any knowledgeable response about this as I don't know enough information. There's no problem with using the comfrey salve as needed. I also suspect that he could benefit from some rehab training to build up strength in that ankle and leg. But, again, I don't know enough about the situation to offer any informed advice. I always recommend working directly with a practitioner who can do a full health history.

Wondering if one can make a comfrey poultice wrap to put around their injured joints. Knees. Shoulders. Hips. Spine. Neck. Are there constituents in comfrey that are strong medicinally in tea form that might help with painful injured joint if its capable of regenerating tissues and healing bones.

Hi Rosalee, I have a question; does a plant that is planted by Comfrey get or would I say pick up the constitutes of Comfrey in that plants roots? I hope my question makes sense :)
That does make sense. I have some whispers about this being a concern but I haven't seen studies on it (they may exist, I haven't seen them though). Comfrey is commonly used as a garden fertilizer and I've also heard concerns about this too... this is a common practice so I think we would know if it were a major problem. But again, I am sharing an opinion as I haven't seen studies.
Are the topical creams / poultice safe for dogs? Old friend is having some joint pain in one leg that resulted in lick granuloma, the vet can't help other than giving him doggy ibuprofen - I thought comfrey might be worth a try....
You could check Etsy to see if there is an herbalist making a great salve there. One tip is to look for something that is very green. If it's a yellow salve then it's not going to be great quality.
We grow comfrey everywhere. Unfortunately, we’ve used it many times to no affect. We’ve tried the leaves slightly wilted, straight on the injury for months. We’ve also made comfrey oil with dried leaves. We still have the injuries. What could we be doing wrong?
I'm not sure what type of injury this is, but I don't recommend using slightly wilted leaves. You need to really break apart those cells walls, like in the directions I give in this video. Not all injuries are healed by comfrey, but in this case I would focus on getting the poultice to be its best.

Super informative and A+ video about the topic. Thank you very much 🙏❤️
You are so welcome!
I use Comfrey root Tea as a mouthwash since this year. My teeth sensitiveness gone and I have stronger bite than ever. I consider to switch to Organic Comfrey Leaf in Sunflower Oil is that same effective but less harmful? I can try oil pulling with that as well.
In coconut may be better. Seed oils are nasty😊
Thank you for teaching me! I just planted some comfrey, and I’m excited to see it grow. Side note: I love your (Love Note?) sweater!
So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for noting the sweater! I do love that pattern!
Where you get your seeds from. That's one of the few plants I haven't done yet
Comfry contains allantuen ( rejuvenating effect ) good for the skin especially for facial cream or facial wash.
I make the oil today to try on my face and beard I want it to growth my facial hair thicker in few days I will know if it regrow skin and cell I guess it can make the hair growth faster 😅😅
Allantoin
Comfrey has been coming to mind a lot as I am dealing with nerve pain in my feet. That is not diabetic neuropathy. But has similar symptoms . I have this gorgeous plant growing all over my backyard and now I am wondering if a salve might be an option for my feet? Maybe with some St. John’s wort and Mugwort added for sleep? Have you ever used it for nerve pains?
I loved your video, which is very well explained.
I used Comfrey Salve to heal and old injury on my shin leg.
I'm also using it in my back, but I'm not sure if it will help me to fix the cartilage between bones or if it is better to only use Castor Oil. Any suggestions?
Thank you for doing this video. I formulate a salve along with Marshmallow Root and Plantain.
Hi! You got a gorgeous picture on your profile just decided to stop by and say hi ☺️☺️ I hope my compliment is appreciated.🤗
This is so much knowledge, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi! You got a gorgeous picture on your profile just decided to stop by and say hi ☺️☺️ I hope my compliment is appreciated.🤗
Thanks for a very informative video. It's very helpful.
Fabulous video, thankyou so much ❤
Can't grow in the desert. Tried and tried.
Just dropped in for the Mountain Rose connection.
Namaste
Ive broken toe bones before.. each time it takes about 6 weeks to heal. Last time it took 3 weeks because I started applying comfrey after about a week.
I broke my toe last week, same day applied comfrey oil. 7 days later mild disconfort.. still a big bruise, but able to walk mainly pain free
Please wear boots!😅
Arthritis is from parasites and a pet of big Fharma, used Turpintine and Ivermectin to get ride of the parasites and going to use comfrey for repair of old injuries.
This is Awesome information on comfrey 😊 I've only been using my comfrey for my garden soil. Thanks for sharing your herbal wisdom 🤩! I have your book Wild Remedies also!
Glad it was helpful!
Gmama, how does comfrey help garden soil? Thanks.
@@bobbiejofouts1708 it works like green manure to help the plants grow 🤓
@@GmamaGrowz thanks. I think you mean like a cover crop, like clover is used, right? My other guess is you take these plants and just put them on/in the soil like is done with manure.
Thank you for sharing!
Fantastic analysis!
Glad you enjoyed it
I appreciate this video so much!
Excellent teaching! Thanks.
Hi there ! today I fined you on UA-cam and watching about Yarrow program then I was wishing that you have any book about Wylde herbs and hearing was I order your book and I will receive it in two days. Thank you so much for the wonderful recipes and knowledge are you sharing with us Eva from Canada?
Plant Comfrey for your backyard chickens!
What a good idea! Definitely going to look into this!
Can the hens eat it, without limits? Can they pass toxicity to us through their eggs?
@@CheezNrice4umy chickens love it and devour it, the hens are not so keen on it, not that they are laying much anyway
Thank you. Great video.
Glad you liked it!
We feed it to our small livestock and occasionally our dogs.
Great information
Hi, does dried comfrey leaves have the same medicinal benefits? I’m not able to grow It fresh, but if I purchased it dried, can I make a poultice with it?
How often would you use the same poultice or would you make a fresh batch each time it is applied (for up to 4 hours or overnight)? My husband has a few bulging discs in his spine (has had them for almost 40 years and they get aggravated at times). He is currently in quite a bit of pain with inflammation and pinched nerves. I love learning how to make the poultice but need more explicit instructions on how to use it please.
Rosalee, I've had torn miniscus knee surgery two years ago and recently developed bone on bone arthritis in the knee. Your comment about your Mom's healing and avoiding knee surgery; was it bone on bone? Will a comfrey salve help my knee? Thank you!
My mother in law had a torn ligament, probably partially torn. I think it's worth trying comfrey, especially a fresh root poultice, but I can't say that I have experience with comfrey and what you're describing.
@@HerbsWithRosalee Thank you 😊 I enjoy your podcasts. Having a background in growing nursery stock I appreciate your information on the herb plants themselves as well as their food and or medicine.
I've used comfrey all my life.I gave it to my father for his lungs..I know it's good for healing bones. I have a tear in my right arm tendon. I need comfrey.
Thank you for the information. Ours here in Arizona have a lighter flower. Is there only one variety?
Over fifty from some things I have read.
Hello @herbswithrosalee,
I love your videos. I learn so much even after years of making tinctures and working with herbs. I notice all the beautiful sweaters you wear. I am a big time knitter as well. What pattern is this beautiful sweater you are wearing? I recognize Tin Can Knit's Love Note Sweater you wear in other videos but I'm not familiar with this one. Thanks a million. Janice
Hi! Rosalee does have beautiful sweaters, doesn't she? This is also a Love Note by Tin Can Knit. It sounds like one of those is in your future, too... :D

Hi! Enjoying your channel and am learning about western herbs after studying Chinese herbs when you say the energetics, I know what you mean and will pick up your book along with your course.
Would comfrey heal the tears in the rotator cuff of my shoulders? I would probably use a poultice.
Thank You Very Much🙂
I have just started using comfrey salve on my husbands old injury of a badly broken ankle and leg.
I always recommend working directly with a practitioner who can do a full health history.
how can it grow in a container and still get all the medicinal benefits that it is supposed to have? Doesn't it mine pretty deep? the stuff it gets from down in the depths provide it's ability to heal the way it does.... or am I not understanding something? please educate me?
Lovely video as always! Did you knit your sweater? It's beautiful!
Yes! Thank you!
My cows will trash an entire fence line to eat my comfrey to the roots
How do you make comfrey creams salves. Can you infuse in oil dried of fresh?
Wondering if one can make a comfrey poultice wrap to put around their injured joints. Knees. Shoulders. Hips. Spine. Neck. Are there constituents in comfrey that are strong medicinally in tea form that might help with painful injured joint if its capable of regenerating tissues and healing bones.
Hi, yes, you can use either a poultice (using plant material directly) or a compress (making a tea first and then using that on a cloth) for those body parts you mentioned.
~Karin Rose
Awesome
what can one do with the roots? I can buy organic comfrey root but no leaves. I just injured my finger. stitches etc. bone is fine but I cut the side tip right off so Im wondering if it could help
I had a beautiful healthy comfrey plant yesterday. Today it is gone. I suspect a deer munched it. I was eaten down to the dirt. I have moved it to the upstairs deck to keep the critters off of it. Have you had issues with your comfrey being eaten?
We have lots of deer here so my yard is fenced. It wouldn't surprise me that a deer would eat it though. Many mammals love to eat comfrey.
@@HerbsWithRosalee I don't really have a yard. I live in Colorado Mountains I have a front porch and that is where is was. Hoping it comes back now that is is on the deck. Odd they left the strawberries alone.
Thank you, Good wise woman! Might Comfrey be used for decades' of severe teeth-and jawbone inflammations, teeth-fractures from non-caries cavities and enamel loss, now loose teeth, please? I have systemic inflammation ( A.S), intestinal, stress-malnutrition, acidity also form stress, sleep deprivation, and psychical issues with anxiety, hypersensitivity, isolation. Teeth might get better if my Liver function and Anchylosing Spondylitis disease did, and I got to sleep more.I am so tired and slow now, with severe longterm burnout.I'd be so grateful for some help please, support and advice.
Will it add bone density? I have osteoporosis , and want to reverse it !
I think you'll be interested in the episode I did with David Winston on nettles. 💚
Hi.Can you recommend a herb that can be used in a balm or skin salve that can be used on children-or babies?Thank you
A favorite general herb for balms/salves is calendula. I have a couple of videos about calendula including a solo and a couple of interviews.
Rosalee. Such a beautiful name 😊
Yes, I've seen comfrey used successfully with dogs. They will probably need a cone though.
If I can’t make my own and need to buy a salve, is there a brand you’d recommend? There are so many options!
Are you sure what you have is true comfrey? There are hybrids out there that don’t have the medicinal qualities…
HOW DO U 7SE THIS FOR VARICOSE VEINS PLEASE & DOES IT WORK TO GET RID OF THEM?😥
Has anyone tried freeze drying comfrey? I think it would make a great powder
Thank you. You are very professional
Hola se puede tomar en té para la rigidez de la rodilla
Lo prefiero como un ungüento directamente en la rodilla.
I grow the bocking 14(? number) I assume the benefits are the same?
I've got some bocking 14 growing too and I think the benefits could be the same. Although bocking 14 is a hybrid where as Symphitum Officionale is the original comfrey.
Hi will comfrey heal fascia tissue. I have cervigenical vertigo ? Please help me I can't find a herb
I've got to wonder if poultices of comfrey could help necrosis of the shoulder or hip?
you can try a poultice of olive oil and cayenne pepper and see how it reacts. great to use over night to bring circulation back. i have to use them for my feet from time to time
Will Poultices pose Liver risks if the Liver is organically good but has great functional issues in form of energy-stagnation?
Does it help with perineal hernia? I can’t afford or want surgery.
What specific species of this plantdo I need to obtain because there are many,I've embarrassed myself for the last time when sourcing plants I have one species of comfrey but the man who sold it to me said it's not the one I'm after
Question pls…..if I remove the comfrey flowers, will the leaves continue to grow ?
Once mine flower I cut them back and the base and the plant will regrow again.
I’ve missed you due to horrific accident 2 months ago . Hi would love to buy your books , I’ve never purchased something on line or hit your link .
Where can I buy the comfy cream
