As a WV girl, my heart definitely lies in the Blue Ridge Mountains and I can tell you for a fact there is no better place to live. Thanks for the great videos!
On touring bikes, if you prefer the flexibility of roadbike handlebars (more positions to shift between), look into crossover bikes. About 10 years ago I bought a Specialized TriCross that makes for a great touring bike. It's basically a 30 speed road bike with a beefed up frame and fatter touring type tires/rims. It was about $1500 at the time, so not really cheap (but not super expensive as bikes go either). You can find cheaper comparable makes and models though if you look around. My Tricross is still going strong though with many 1000's of miles on it, so over time it was not a bad investment.
Hi Darwin. Two questions. You mentioned that you have seen families hiking the AT, did they had small children with them, and do you know what type of tent they carry? How are foreigners treated at the AT?
Looking forward to your thoughts on the 6MD tent. I've been considering a couple of their lighter designs, but have pretty much decided to save up for a Zpacks, probably the Altaplex
I've also been looking at the Altaplex! Seems like a killer tent & I've yet to own anything from Zpacks that wasn't Amazing! Thanks for Watching! Hike On, Darwin
look at the Lightheart Solo 6. It has 4" carbon fiber stays at the corners that keep the bathtub erect all the way around. In a pinch could sleep two. Screened on both sides and two doors. Two nice closeable vents on top. Luv mine. uses trecking poles to easily erect the tent.
Hi Darwin, thanks for the great videos. I am planning on thru hiking the AT next year and have a 100% flexible schedule. Would you give your honest breakdown between NOBO and flip flopping somewhere around Harper's Ferry?
I am planning a thru hike with my 9 year old son. I want to keep his pack weight low so I could carry his pack for moral reasons if needed. Right now we are planing for him to carry his sleep system, clothes and his food. Is there anything else he should have?
Hey Darwin, First thanks for your videos. Second i can't remember what video you was talking about sleeping pads. i am a side sleeper so i like my neo air mattress. Here is a trick to get away from the goat heads in Utah Colorado and mojave desert part of the pct. i purchase the the blue slepling pad from walmart. i cut out the diameter of the sleeping pad plus a inch for xtra comfort. No puntucture threw the pad. i typically go through one every season just to save neo. Cheers and thanks again for all you do.
Been following you for a couple years, really enjoy your adventures! I owned the same model trailer you have in the past and have worked on others over the years. If you ever want someone to bounce any questions off of feel free to hit me up. More that happy to help. ATB, Bill
Thanks Bill, glad your enjoying the Vids! That's awesome that you owned a Lark as well. I will def hit you up when I get in a spot. That thing is like a damn Puzzle! Thanks for Watching! Hike On, Darwin
The last 13000 years of human history has been a case study of groups of people that exterminate those that live nomadic life. I think that trend may be in the midst of a huge change, but am very interested in the actual implication.

when you purchase you hiking shoes, do you get that are a 1/2 to a full size larger than your non hiking shoes?
