It has to be a mature branch, a branch that is no longer green. Aloe vera is used as a rooting hormone. You don't need to water it if it has no leaf and is not growing. You just make sure it's completely enclosed so it doesn't lose its water content. It may take as little as 15 days or may take as long as 45 days. Keep an eye on it. If you see it growing new bud, it's a sign the rooting process is successful.
