- Before planting your Jujube AKA Chinese Dates or Chinese Apples, watch this video to avoid any possible issues in the future of growing this delicious fruit. I also shared how to pick a delicious Jujube fruit, ways to eat them throughout the different stages of the fruit. The variety showed in this video are Li and Sugar Cane.

Leave it in the container. Then cut the bottom of the container out. Plant the container so the root system only goes deep .The sides of the container will stop the roots from traveling on top of the soil.
The dog is probably wondering who you are talking to.
My neighbor has 3 trees of these and one planted in between our houses. They let us pick from the tree, and they’ve definitely made their way to being my favorite fruit. They’re best when they’ve just turned all red. It’s hard to explain what other fruit they taste like, but they’re sweet. And when they get really ripe, they start tasting like dates- no sugar needed at all. Very delicious! I’ve been unsuccessful at growing them. I’ve tried from cuttings and have gotten them to grow new foliage, but don’t have a clue when to transfer to soil.
They say when they're a few years old to put them in a 30 gal container, anything smaller and it won't produce as much. Also put in the sunniest spot in the garden. They can take 115 degree desert summers no problem.
mine is in the ground
"Mom, stop talking and give me more Jujubes! "😄
Are you sure it's root suckers? Most of the jujube that randomly pop up for me are from seeds that are dropped on the ground. Never had a problem in 18years
That dog was so cute! "Hand over the fruit!"
Sugar cane is a great variety of jujube! I love them
i watched the entire video but i still dont get the answer to as why she doesnt grow the tree in the ground? where then? am i missing something here?
Roots can be spreaders so it was planted in a container. You will see more examples in this fruit tour video: ua-cam.com/video/_fli6JX3o1M/v-deo.html
Based on my own knowledge and understanding, you can plant jujubi on the ground provided to keep the tree on the container to prevent the root from spreading all over and sprout!
Do we need to be extra cautious with the thorns on a jujube? More than let's say a citrus or pomegranate thorn?
Is this tree messy and are the roots get out of control?
Oh My goodness, I had a Lab like like Lotus. He looks like an English Lab. I miss my boy so much. I just tasted my first jujube fruit tht my sister sent from Calif. I live in Kentucky now, moved here 3 years ago from Calif. I brought my Lab here to run the green hills but unfortunately he passed away suddenly after one week of arrival in Ky. I was devastated and still am grieving over my beautiful boy so everytime I see one who looks like him I cry. I loved him so much. Looks like he is so happy with you.
The dog 🫢🤣😂🤣
I have heard that jujubes do not do well in containers. My experience of them would concur with that. They seem to do well when they spread their roots out.
I wanted to plant a few of these in my yard but now I'm worried about how invasive they are. I planted a Wisteria along my fenceline and now it is invading my entire yard..so don't need another plant that does that. Are Jujubes really that invasive?
I have heard this from several folks, and read it to, so there must be something to it -- especially if you aren't managing your landscape very much. However, I have been growing them for over 6 years and have 10 trees of different varieties all grafted -- meaning root stock should be the "invasive" type.
I have never seen them spread through rhizome or demonstrate any sort of "invasive behavior." My maypop, on the other hand, is like a giant mint that climbs -- like I have never seen in a plant. Good thing it's edible. (see my video about the taste, though).
Thanks so much for this info. You have convinced me to plant some in my yard. I live in a forest with sandy soil in zone 8 on the gulf coast and it has been a struggle to find fruiting trees to grow here. Blueberries, Strawberries, Korean Persimmons, and Mulberries do great here..but none of my citrus, pecan, fig, apple, or pears trees did well..so I'm hoping the Jujube trees will give me the fruit I've been wanting for years. Can you recommend a good online seller for them? Thanks.
I plant them in the ground so I can have 10,000 jujube trees without me doing any more planting.
🤣🤣
Yes, you called jujube, but we actually called it buk ka tan. Jujube has the center of origin around yellow river in china. So, in our country we got very few varieties locally and they don’t delicious like you got in the us.
your dog is so cute! I planted a Li and a Lang which are just leafy sticks at present. Hopefully, in a few years I can try the fruit. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can't wait until my baby jujube tree is big enough to fruit!
This is my and my dogs favorite fruit. Every time I pick some of my tree I have to go give them some of it or they won't stop jumping on me.
The new Gestalt Gardener!!!
Lotus is so encouraging, such a beautiful pet. Thanks for these informative & educational videos. Those fruits look similar to our pommesurettes/juju here in the tropics. Stay safe.

It would be nice to see your potted tree.
This thing is so invasive that I saw some shoots coming out of an asphalt road! (I'm from China)
CHINA NO GOOD!!!!
mine grows like bamboo
Ive never seen it or heard of it but it looks delicious. Mind you, theres a slight difference in the amount of sun you get and the amount we get lol. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Your jujube looks very delicious. I could eat your jujube all day long. Where can I order some seeds?
i grow jujube infront of my house, and it seems like the root getting everywhere and sproud sucker jujubee plants, do you think it could destroy the main water sewer. the main water sewer is around 3 meters aways from the plan jujube plant
Sell the suckers on marketplace or craigslist.
@@jennifern2805 The suckers wouldn't be worth selling.
Graft the suckers with a main fruiting tree branch that you have and sell it ( you can learn grafting in UA-cam) good luck👍🏼😊
Your dog is so cute! Love the jujubes. Just bought one jujube tree from a website and is on its way. Wondering how big your tree is that produced so many large fruits
Good information. Great video. Thank you for posting this Wendi.
Hi Wendi, just wondering how to add fertiliser to potting fruit tree. Did you add liquid one or scatter solid ones? Thanks
Doggy has a sweet tooth
my chineese landlord pointed out a tree in out back yard.. cool now i know what to do with them
Hello you may not have heard of me or my channel. But I grow a great deal of fruit myself. Keep up the good work on your Channel
MORNING GARDENER'S SHOW. Thank you! Same to you! :)
Jujube do not like pots, they have a big tap root. We have had ours in a pot because we are waiting to move before planting them in the ground, they flower but will not fruit even when I hand pollinate.
Do you know which nursery sells sugarcane jujube in Orange County?
Laguna hills nursery
+1 on Laguna Hills Nursery, that's where I got my Jujube and it produced MANY fruits this past season. See David, very knowledgable. Davids Top Pot mix just the best soil for containers, made a huge difference in my potted trees that I have... Look up "
Gary's Best Gardening" channel, and the vid"Your "Dirt" May Be Killing Your Plants"
Emily Nursery in Santa Ana. Mimosa Nursery in Los Angeles and Orange County
I love my Li & Lang jujube. I love mine mahogany brown too. I guess mowing takes care of any poss suckers, only saw 1 & that was a diff juju, it had thorns! I guess that means my trees r grafted.
Thanks for another informative video and your wonderful personality.
Gregory Fortner glad you enjoyed. 💖
Here's a good video to use dried jujubes by one of my fav cooks ua-cam.com/video/w_QL-oTsPOg/v-deo.html
Can it grow in tropical countries, like phillipines and vietnam?
On a very high mountain top probably yes. It does not require any cold days I've seen it growing in Qatar. Too much moisture could be a problem causing root rot it prefers semi deserts so it'd need a place with good drainage
cerverg thank you for your responce
Wendi...is your potted jujube bearing fruit. I'm limited to potted trees
Maybe you can graft honey jar jujube as well. Equally as sweet as sugar cane
so I want to plant jujube in Indonesia 😂
I love it . You presented it well Thank you 🙏 I’m desperate looking for a tree here in San Diego . The jujube Tree I ordered that was planted on a pot by a friend died before I could pick it up . Where can I get one ordered . Thank you 🙏
Been searching for a tree, but only finding seeds
TyTy Nursery or Willis Nursery. They are pricey.
@@jennifern2805thanks but i am in UK - just managed to get hold of one two weeks ago

Congratulations! I had forgotten that I posted this 9 months ago.
@@jennifern2805 bless, I was just visiting some.old jujube videos
And dreaming of when my baby will fruit for me
And then went and purchased another jujube plant today
As some videos were saying I may get a better yield with two different varieties
@@AAHomeGardening Yes, I'm still adding to my orchard gradually. I put in 9 fruit trees in my first year along with 8 black and 9 blueberry. I'm only adding a couple extra new trees every year at this point to focus on ground, raised beds and pollinator attractors.
How far away from the house should they be planted in AZ.?
20-30 feet?
keep away from foundation
@@moniquemonicat mines about 20 ft tall with the canopy ranging about that same in width
@Wendi, i am from South Carolina i grow this plant once, but i had to dig it up
how come
I have two trees of this
Delicious!
Thanks for the video! I've only seen it and had them dried. I prefer the black ones ( do you know the variety that dries black)? I would love to grow my own as I haven't been able to find dried jujubes locally here in the Bahamas.
I love to put dried ones when cooking rice! The jujubes are like an after dinner dessert! 😁
How do you grow the tree?
There’s jujube videos on my channel you can search for. Happy Gardening!

Hey lady, you are taunting your cute dog by talking and waving your jujube in hand. It's eyes are following your waving jujube. Give it the fruit, feed it!
Is jujube actually good? I heard it tastes like syrup... That sounds disgusting 😝
Lotus is cute!☺️
