MOST ideas nowadays are "others peoples' ideas". There are very true 100% original ideas left in any online business space - most people are repurposing others' ideas and that's okay (it's all about the creative spin you put on something, your delivery and hustle)

This kind of feedback is more or less book reviews sped up, with often poorer grammar. You read them, take what is useful, ignore what isn’t, and incorporate it to improve your work. Just as with reviews, you can’t let them steer you. That way lies madness.

Actually historically it has worked for fiction: one of the 1800s most celebrated authors is Charles Dickens, who wrote his fiction in weekly periodicals. Each week he would release a chapter and while he had a story in mind, he would use both the anticipation and the feedback to guide his following chapters.
In the modern day, in the comic world, manga artists use a similar weekly model to release their work and in the long term incorporate feedback to mould their art

The thing is, he found a way to "sell a lot without making an effort", but all of this is thanks to the image he built of himself, his reputation and his results.
What everyone wants today is this -> + scale and - effort.
Now we need to know if he really knows what he's talking about and if the person buying the course is willing to change their life. I don't know this guru and I'm not advocating just stating the facts.

This video really opened my eyes! I loved the part about how online writing isn't just about waiting for publishers; it's all about sharing ideas where people already are, like on social media. The feedback loop is gold-getting instant reactions helps writers grow and find their voices faster. It blew my mind that you can build your audience before even writing a book! Also, the whole idea of the “1,000 true fans” really stuck with me. It’s way less daunting to focus on a smaller, dedicated group than trying to chase a huge crowd. Thanks for sharing such great tips!

That’s a good thing. Maybe not for you, but definitely for a content creator. Adjusting your writing to make it more popular, as opposed to making it higher quality, it’s just simply a natural evolution of a content creator. We may not like it, but that’s just simply how it works. If you want something, that’s a little less flashy, you just have to go find new content all the time. It’s the price you pay for being choosy.

You could also say this is the difference between formulaic writing -- like romances, which have been churned out en masse for decades in response to reader feedback -- and great literature, which is the result of one individual's creativity, vision, and perseverance. No one will remember a single romance or online bit in 100 or even 10 years but great novels live forever. I ran a professional writing business for years. This is utter schlock.

Hi Ali, great conclusion of the entire book. But what I’ve seen with online writers these days is they share a lot of tips about writing and then sell those tips in a course or in a book.
But I’ve not come across a single writer yet, who writes about everything else other than writing tips and earn money.
You can even make an analysis of this, but online writers make more money by selling courses and self publishing.

    • @Nick-tm2sw
      @Nick-tm2sw Рік тому +6

That is how most of this stuff works. It doesn't matter if its writing, finance, day trading, etc. People hype up what they are doing to sell courses. They don't make most (or any) of their money from the original activity they are teaching you about but instead make it from selling courses that claim to teach you how to do what they do. No one ever stops to consider why someone that is telling you they make tons of money doing something like day trading don't just focus more on that activity instead of spending time selling courses about it. In that example you could argue teaching others to do what they do would actually harm their financial best interests due to added market competition. The truth is they sell courses because the original activity is not that lucrative for most people and they will make more money selling courses.

Yep.I am a professional writer with two degrees, have written for many businesses, and had a successful podcast I wrote. I can tell you right now this gentleman and those like him make money by simply selling the idea of "you can make money too!" to people more than by writing for writing's sake. I have always made crappy money my whole career despite having luck. Yes some jobs will pay well but they can stop after a few weeks or months, writers get laid off frequently, and many companies only have one writer, so full time jobs can be extremely hard to get -- plus it can take a long time to find another contract job after one ends and you might have to do something very low paying in the mean time. Freelancing on Fiverr pays peanuts unless you've been at it for years. People seriously want to hire writers for what works out to like $5 an hour! Most of the writers I know are also either not making that much money a year (random payments here and there) or also have to have a full time job such as teaching at a school OR basically have to spend more of their time making these expensive courses and programs for people to buy and all the time it takes to constantly advertise and market those (by making youtube videos like this). Either way if you want to make money writing you have to be constantly constantly constantly selling yourself. If you don't enjoy that then just write for yourself for fun!

Can you at some point make a video (apologies if you have done so already) about why you have chosen this particular narrative? I'm trying to understand the ways people approach living in an economic society, why someone pursues money as the end goal versus meaningful work or a combination.

Hi Ali, very good video as always - but I am unclear about a key aspect of the “online writing” process - when you suggest to write on platforms such as X. LinkedIn, Reddit etc … do you actually mean to simply post an entire essay or article as a regular post ? Or am I missing some aspect of the process… is there a format to upload one’s work onto these platforms , or do they offer certain “publishing pages” for writers / content creators to upload to? Platforms such as Quora /medium require an already existing following of sorts , as those models are a little closer to the “private website “ format …I would be very grateful for some clarification to help dissipate my confusion :)
    Thank you in advance .

    • @jAlexEF

I think it’s about testing the waters with feedback regarding a topic. So you post a shortcut of the idea/topic you have in mind, wait for people’s opinion on it and with that new perspective on the topic you can write a better article that is more attractive to the audience.
& you will notice which topics get more engagement and responses and which get less, which can be a good way of selecting topics (although that whole concept is quite dependent on having/building a base followership of a “few hundreds” in order to even get responses)

So if I undertood it right, to start you are going to make and publish lots of contents and different ideas, then using feedback you are going to focus on what you really like and people want to read of your content.
I really want to start writing and this sounds as a really good way to start and not only find what resonates with your public but also with yourself!

It’s not easy, and it’s going to take a lot of courage. You have a platform, and it’s time for you to publicly take a stance toward the Palestine genocide taking place right before our eyes (and if you feel otherwise, then of course that would be your stance).
Neutrality is just not an option anymore, that time has passed. History will look back at this time and we need to see you as being listed as one of the brave social media leaders. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this subject presented in a very near future video in the same eloquent and cool way as your other videos, insha’Allah :).

The attention model seems a bit repulsive for me, but being a copywriter who's a non-native speaker is a bit hard - landing good jobs even with a good command of English is not so easy, you just get paid less by default. Still, I'm willing to learn more. Thanks for the book recommendation as well.
