+Cody Koloen You know it. There's a nerd bar in my town. Not many play chess but I rented a board to play with one of my roommates. Ended up playing with 3 other dudes I didn't even know. Fun night.

Some of you folks really need to stop saying that Cornbread cheated at 1:36. It is called Castling, which is a completely legal move. Your ignorance is understandable, but if you don't know the rules of chess then don't criticize those who do.

He acknowledged that he lost and put the piece back to look at the position to see what could've been done differently, and then they started again because the kid won. I don't see what's wrong in any of this lol.

Couple of responses to the comments: Somewhere around the 1:30 mark, I'm not going to bother to look at the exact time, Cornbread knocks over some pieces, and place his rook inside his king. This was not cheating. It was a fairly fundamental chess play called casting. If you watch, the kid castles as well either just before or just after cornbread. Furthermore, after he was checkmated once before, he wasn't trying to cheat by resetting the pieces. Checkmate was called, everyone knows who won. ~ Cornbread let the kid win both games. It's hard to tell in the first game, but if you watch Cornbread's body language at around 7:00 all the way to the check mate, he's smiling to himself looking the kid down waiting for him to see the opening. It was sweet. In the second game, it should be obvious the Cornbread let him win. The kid was just trying to trade Queens, the kid's queen was unprotected, there was a pawn right there to take - anybody's who played chess knows he saw the checkmate coming
Very late to this, but I just wanted to say what a good role model both you and cornbread are for this kid, so glad to see chess being used to bring generations together.

I recently taught my 5 year old to play chess. He learned the rules and starting ideas quite quickly, then started watching beginner lessons on UA-cam. Within a week he was using notation and terminology (“your pawn on b7 is hanging dad!”), applying beginner tactics, and had learned several types of checkmate. Thanks to UA-cam and other internet resources, young kids can now learn chess quite easily. It is a great time for the game.
This has happened to all chess players at some point. You are playing someone for the first time and you castle, and they say what is that, you can't move that way, huh. Or you capture en passant and they say, hey you can't capture that way! Grrrrrrr!

Lol, castling and en passant are chess rules but some chess sites don't allow en passant in the definitions of the chess site. That's stupid. Check chessrally.com and you will see what i'm saying. There are some people there that use the bottom "without en passant" lolol. Terrible chess site...jes
@@louiethegreat7987 - "castling" and "en passant" were originally illegal moves, but in the 500th. century b.c. indian player Anuhafiddledick insisted so many times that it became part of modern chess. Also, there's developing a new legal move: "Elevated Bishop" - its when you lift the bishop high and punch your opponent with it.

Is his father telling him, "Oh, you better see that, John," at 16:16 -- right before John pulls his hand back from the pawn he was about to capture? If so, that's not exactly kosher.
Seems that he begins saying that before the kid moves and then retracts. Seconds later the child confirms that he did see that and didn't need the fathers input. Also he's a kid so the game wasn't "kosher" to begin with.
Well, if he gave his boy any advice on what piece to move next or what to watch out for, he was cheating, even if he retracted the statement. Look at how John reaches and suddenly pulls his hand back, presumably from whatever move he originally intended to make. The fact that he's a kid doesn't change anything as far as the game's legitimacy -- kids play adults in chess all the time ... and often win!
Sure, but if you're going to put your kid on UA-cam and tout him as a great chess player, don't cheat for him. It's like saying, "Look how well my boy shoots pool" while you're helping him hold and aim the cue stick.
At 1.36 the black guy cheats and knocks over the king and moves it back into different place.then when the king is next too the castle he castles i daont know if your aloud too move a piece too another spot when you knock it over then cover it with a castle.
love how Cornbread undoes little man's checkmate move like it didn't happen and instead of the kid shouting about how he just won, he was contemplating how he could beat him again! ...until the bystander said something
For those that don't know, Cornbread let the kid win. It's not that hard to tell with the face expressions he gives us. I mean c'mon, he's just trying to encourage that kid.
+r4gu1 From 7:10, look at Cornbread's face expressions. He knew the checkmate was coming. He was joking about and having fun at the same time, yet letting the kid live his moment. Trust me, I know how those guys act in front of kids and how different they act in front of adults.
+r4gu1 So its not possible for him to have seen the eventual mate? Many games end with a resignation; perhaps Cornbread simply saw the mate coming, but was powerless to stop it. It is a really good position for the kid.
Did anyone notice the move where he 'accidentally' knocked pieces down at around 1:38 and put them back in different places. I understand one of them may have been a move but he conveniently moved his piece from the corner which allowed him to 'lock down' the bishop. I'm not clued up on chess but I seen that a mile off, can any one clarify this for me or explain the move?

first match, too defencive/protective. Cornbread was trying to keep his lesser pieces protected instead of seeing the bigger picture. second match, too aggressive. He was so eager to do bishop+queen pin like John did last round that he forgot about the queen.
Also, if you watch when he "accidently" knocks over a couple pieces during the first match he puts them in different spots and betters his position by two moves
He is a crackhead. Having been a homeless junky and infrequent user of crack, I can definitively say this. The mouth smacking and tics he has are more than just cold. Also, he seems like an amazing, good hearted guy and god bless him for giving this kid such a good experience. Need more people like him. I hope he got HIGH AF after this
Ray Evans Cornbread is good, therefore Iam guessing that he thought he could checkmate the kid in 10 moves or less while holding out from going to the restroom.
I love the fact that the kid is constantly distracted by other kids climbing shit and having fun in the backround, but also keeps his composure/strategy together, even mugging at the camera from time to time. Good dude.
This video really puts a smile on my face. The fact that the dad said they went there previously to find Cornbread says a couple things about him. 1.) he's a pretty good player and 2.) he's just a great person who is helping build this young boy up as a player. I think it's pretty obvious he let the kid win, but it seems like winning he game isn't as important to him as being a role model to the kid. 👍🏻
Do you know how to castle? It's the only turn where you can move two pieces. He castled, but he knocked the king over accidentally first. He wasn't cheating look again. Stop and start it. Slow it down. He castled.
People post all manner of comments here but, being a chess fan who loves something different on occasion, watching chess hustlers play is entertaining and fascinating. I wonder how well these guys could have been if they had not fallen into hard times and dabbled in drugs.
Kudos to Mr. Cornbread! It had to hit his pride to be wiped out by a child. He was never patronizing, or talking down to the kiddo, and he did treat the kiddo the same way he would treat any other opponent - actions which in and of themselves are compliments!
I've been enjoying watching these kinds of videos lately. Even tho at times it gets heated,, it's a really beautiful thing to see these public chess games bringing folks of all ages together.
God bless you man. The stereotype about homeschool kids is that they are unruly feral children that can't socialize and have no intellectual aptitude. Especially love to see the joy in the boy's face. Thank you for showing people otherwise; what a bright and well spoken kid. All the best.
@17:23 ....why would Cornbread do that? The last move put John's Queen set to be taken by the pawn, but he takes the Rook with his Bishop, which moves his Bishop to be taken by John's Bishop. ????
Charming. Why don't YOU go beat the street hustler, then? Or do you prefer the comfort of your parents' garage "apartment" to do your semi-snarky criticizing from? Add to which, he acknowledges the loss and they move on to the next game, so what's your beef aside from the painfully obvious? Try not to sound a loser next time.
That queen trade would've been hugely favorable for John , seeing as after that he would have a stacked pawn on the H-file in front of his king. It would've been game over anyway. to say he "let the boy win" is just not giving John the credit he deserved.
I've noticed after watching several of these videos that the hustlers have quite a habit of knocking over pieces during games. Not necessarily intentional in this video, but I've seen others where they reset the pieces to their advantage (or try to).
Cornbread has a failed heart health issue as well as chess skills comparable to Napoleon Dyna Nada. Encounters like this will never make a difference in a non relevant twitter word exchange for low iq city dwellers Well done, John. Get a Job , Cornbread.

People post all manner of comments here but, being a chess fan who loves something different on occasion, watching chess hustlers play is entertaining and fascinating. I wonder how well these guys could have been if they had not fallen into hard times and dabbled in drugs.
Chess is awesome. I wish I found it earlier in life!

Great game great life moment real chess
Ive never seen them play a game in the park without clocks
slarz1108 it is part of the hussle and forcing people to play speed chess making the cheating more easy for them to do.
Loki Styrbiorn No cheating in OTB chess only online chess.
What a really cool video!! Loved it! I hope these two have connected since with a few more matches... I'd watch!
wonderful man at heart
10:20......insert crazy person in the park
*Tyrone biggum?*
"You don't require much thought, Dad." SOMEONE GET THIS KID A THUG LYFE MEME ALREADY!!!!
No
Kudos to Mr.
I love this chess in the park thing! :)
Who else paid more attention to the squirrel? 😅
they just cant stop whining about castling
2:50 btw
Jameson Tuttle what squirrel
Awesome to see race, age and class put aside for awhile.
This is how 99% of people act. It's not out of the ordinary. Media wants us to believe there is some kind of race war.
And then you came along and mentioned race 😂
Lol theres never been a race war medias lying this is how the world is
What was said by the woman offscreen at 11:00? Seems like everyone looked a little worried.
God bless you man. The stereotype about homeschool kids is that they are unruly feral children that can't socialize and have no intellectual aptitude. Especially love to see the joy in the boy's face. Thank you for showing people otherwise; what a bright and well spoken kid. All the best.
"Howbad dat hum?" (little voice): "checkmate" Lol!
I just said, man that look like it's great coffee
Plus, buddy has probably been there all day and tired and freezing his butt off so...
@17:23 ....why would Cornbread do that? The last move put John's Queen set to be taken by the pawn, but he takes the Rook with his Bishop, which moves his Bishop to be taken by John's Bishop. ????
deffo a feel good vid. wish these chess hustler vids showed a display board or whatever there called so we can follow the games better.
Good game, father and son.
There's no way those two players are father and son.
He’s so cracked out lmfao
Its cold fool
@@bmitch3137 sure it is....sure it is....
And? I am proud of this dude for being a formidable and entertaining chess opponent. Kid will remember this time.
Addiction is a sickness friend , a disease. You shouldn’t pass judgment so freely. What’s that saying ?? “Judge not for thou shalt be judged!!!
“You guys declare a truce?”
“NAHHHHH, This is war!”
5 min later...
Loses. “I DIDDED EVEN LOOOOKAD DAT!”
Cornbread could have killed the black queen at 17:21 but he decided to let the boy win.
Boy was crushing him, count the pieces after he takes queen and the kid takes his bishop.
That queen trade would've been hugely favorable for John , seeing as after that he would have a stacked pawn on the H-file in front of his king. It would've been game over anyway. to say he "let the boy win" is just not giving John the credit he deserved.
Why didn't he take the kid's knight with the pawn at 9:53 ??????? What am I missing?
I've noticed after watching several of these videos that the hustlers have quite a habit of knocking over pieces during games. Not necessarily intentional in this video, but I've seen others where they reset the pieces to their advantage (or try to).
McFlySwatter it's true hustlers do it a lot, but it still happens every now and then. Plus this dude doesn't have the most steady hands lol.
Never read the youtube comments.
xD
I didn't read this

However that kid has less on his mind compared to an adult just struggling to make a living ...buddy deserves a break.

Other one

The dad is cornbread
Enjoyed the video and best of luck to your son.
Everybody is winning in this video. Thank you cornbread and both John and Dad.

Cornbread has a failed heart health issue as well as chess skills comparable to Napoleon Dyna Nada. Encounters like this will never make a difference in a non relevant twitter word exchange for low iq city dwellers Well done, John. Get a Job , Cornbread.
Why is the black man swinging back and forth?:D
karl bale it's a habit allot of people develop, they do that to stall and or to multitask more and add more things to do
karl bale which one is the black man?
there's more than coffee in that cup
He isn't: you're actually looking at seventeen black men.
it is a heroin addiction side effect.
Reminds me of searching for Bobby Fisher lol
More chess and less politics would transform the world. Well done to both players!
when I worked at the school, there were a few teachers that taught chess to the students. I think every school should teach chess.
