I'm only 900 ELO, and have been watching your videos for a few months or so now on and off. At first, my instinct was certainly to play b4 at the paused interval, but I finally found the right move with the king for once! Happy to say I am now not only enjoying the show :)
I fully support that statement. He's congratulated basically everyone who has ever beaten him while he was world champion and well before that, a decade of good sportsmanship. Hans is the exception for lots of reasons, including the fact that he admitted to cheating, and then was banned for additional games cheated he didn't admit to, and doesn't understand the game he beat magnus in. If I used an engine to beat Magnus, I would not be able to answer questions about how I did it. That's Hans, although he is legitimately some kind of grandmaster on top of it.
it was nice to see that frustration on MC, its what you get for playing this. I wish Pragg had found the Ke4 move. It seems pretty intuitive. Centralize the king, bringing it closer to your passed pawns, and attack that rook which hardly has any squares. But hey, i'm sitting on a sofa and agad stopped the game there and asked me to find the winning move.
I didn’t find the move but found Pragu’s move. May not be as deeply calculating as an engine but matching (by sheer luck) a GM makes me feel kinda cool!
I found the move Ke4 as I was thinking about Rook retreating to d7, HOWEVER... I didn't see the follow-up idea at all. Sad, but chess is a really hard game :/

I'm an 800 rated player and my first instinct in the position was the winning king move but I also would have lost of either side 20 moves before that and even after I doubt I could win that end game
As a possible response to Agamators “winning move” What about rxd3? Followed by cxd3-Re2#. Then the white king has to either block his own pawns, or let the black king into the position. If Kxd3, -Rh6, f5, Rxd6! Doubling blacks pawns. The black king could hold this while his h pawn ran for it, or if Praggs king went for the h pawn, Magnus would have plenty of time to gobble the rest.
Ironic how praggy found one great after another and missed an not-so-difficult move by his standards which could ve been pivotal for him . I guess that's entirely magnus effect in play

Of course h4 is somewhat borderline,..,but problematic for Black in many similar pawn structures.What I like best is the way to progress in that material unbalanced position. After watching Ivanchuk interview yesterday in another channel..I am moreinterested in the tournament: maybe the different styles of play because there are more players than usual.

But with Rxc3, you'll at least win the bishop and 2 more pawns and the knight is threatened to be taken, and the pass e and f pawns can't compare with black's future pass pawns (a and b pawns), Prag can only choose between ab pawns or the pass h pawn, or march his e and f pawns, but it won't be easy because the king and rook is there to stop them
Somehow watching this game reminds me of the Ivanchuk Alireza blitz game where Ivanchuk sacrificed both his rooks for pushing his pawns. Both great games 👌

I fully support that statement. He's congratulated basically everyone who has ever beaten him while he was world champion and well before that, a decade of good sportsmanship.
Hans is the exception for lots of reasons, including the fact that he admitted to cheating, and then was banned for additional games cheated he didn't admit to, and doesn't understand the game he beat magnus in.
If I used an engine to beat Magnus, I would not be able to answer questions about how I did it. That's Hans, although he is legitimately some kind of grandmaster on top of it.

it was nice to see that frustration on MC, its what you get for playing this. I wish Pragg had found the Ke4 move. It seems pretty intuitive. Centralize the king, bringing it closer to your passed pawns, and attack that rook which hardly has any squares. But hey, i'm sitting on a sofa and agad stopped the game there and asked me to find the winning move.
And there are not already a hundred options running wild in your head right in the thick of battle against the world champion

I didn’t find the move but found Pragu’s move. May not be as deeply calculating as an engine but matching (by sheer luck) a GM makes me feel kinda cool!
I saw the move immediately. Proves I was cheating - got nothing to do with how obvious it is (except to a super grandmaster)
I found the move Ke4 as I was thinking about Rook retreating to d7, HOWEVER... I didn't see the follow-up idea at all. Sad, but chess is a really hard game :/
Every time I find the move (like this time) I’m then disappointed because the continuation of why I chose it never matches.

Magnus is a multiple world champion, the highest rated player ever by ELO, considered by many the greatest of all time. Pragg is a 17-year-old future talent. Of course Pragg is going to get appreciated more.
The occasional Magnus/Pragg drama is today's rough equivalent of the immortal Fischer/Spassky rivalry - something like each being the other's equal and opposite force.

I'm an 800 rated player and my first instinct in the position was the winning king move but I also would have lost of either side 20 moves before that and even after I doubt I could win that end game

I'm actually surprised Pragg missed Ke4. It's an obvious move to consider first, so he must have thought something was wrong with it.
I found the king e4 move in 3 seconds. Didn’t actually calculate anything, it just looked really natural. Surprised pragg didn’t find it.

What about rxd3? Followed by cxd3-Re2#. Then the white king has to either block his own pawns, or let the black king into the position.
If Kxd3, -Rh6, f5, Rxd6! Doubling blacks pawns. The black king could hold this while his h pawn ran for it, or if Praggs king went for the h pawn, Magnus would have plenty of time to gobble the rest.
Ironic how praggy found one great after another and missed an not-so-difficult move by his standards which could ve been pivotal for him . I guess that's entirely magnus effect in play

The engine was suggesting 13. Na4, aiming for b6, preventing Magnus from castling, as way better than 13. Nf3 - What do you think ? Magnus played 13. ... - Qa5, suggesting he was aware of that resource.

Chess spirit is back ! :-) Smartly played for both sides. Of course h4 is somewhat borderline,..,but problematic for Black in many similar pawn structures.What I like best is the way to progress in that material unbalanced position. After watching Ivanchuk interview yesterday in another channel..I am moreinterested in the tournament: maybe the different styles of play because there are more players than usual.

Agadmator is just one of us who had the knowledge and dedication to build this channel (and I do think it is the best chess channel on the interwebs).

Very odd. I found the King move immediately. That position screamed for that King move. You then control the game. Super surprised that was not played. Awesome game regardless.

07:25 I was thinking to do exchange sacrifice Rxd3 for the bishop with check, because bishop + knight with 3 pawns advantages are definitely winning against 2 rooks! But with Rxc3, you'll at least win the bishop and 2 more pawns and the knight is threatened to be taken, and the pass e and f pawns can't compare with black's future pass pawns (a and b pawns), Prag can only choose between ab pawns or the pass h pawn, or march his e and f pawns, but it won't be easy because the king and rook is there to stop them
Somehow watching this game reminds me of the Ivanchuk Alireza blitz game where Ivanchuk sacrificed both his rooks for pushing his pawns. Both great games 👌
I usually play the same sacrifice in the Italian it leads to fun Blitz 3+0 games.
I did not find Ke4, but it seems plausible one could find it if they were truly invested in the game; even at intermediate level like me.
Pragg played a Great Game would’ve loved to see him Win trading major pieces and getting minor ones in return but great position too bad the pawns couldn’t promote he had Magnus on the ropes for most of the game Thanks Agadmator
