@@jaleelshaw I'd first ask whether it would be a secondary device or your main one. And what would you use it for - At the price it goes for, you'd get better mileage from a laptop imo. If it's for making music, the 120hz won't have a meaningful impact. But ymmv, in my case I found I'd accidentally turned off 120hz on my phone and didn't notice for months 🤷

I’ve been thinking the same thing. I just wonder if there’s an app that I can use a pencil to notate music, that will transcribe it to a digital chart format.

Upgraded my wife’s M1 Air with the 11” M2 Air since she loves Procreate and was intrigued by the new Apple Pencil Pro features. She didn’t want the 13” model since it would be too big for using it in bed or traveling. She gave me her M1 Air and as someone whose never had one before I am liking it. I’m a screen snob and we have all OLED LG TVs in our house but the LCDs Apple uses are pretty good. Aside from really dark scenes I think even the M1 Air is great for basic stuff and media consumption. I think a lot of people would be served well by saving money on the older model if they don’t have to have the fancy new Apple Pencil.

Bought the 13" Air today and I love it. I use mine for online school, gaming, streaming movies, streaming podcasts, listening to music, and reading. I don't use any keyboard or the Apple Pencil. 3 things that I really like are the speed, battery life, and light weight. 2 things I don't like are Touch ID and the speakers. I have basically solved the speakers issue by using my AirPods or a Bluetooth speaker. Touch ID is just going to take getting used to. The new pencil and features alone is enough to get digital artists to consider upgrading to either the M2 Air or Pro. Especially in group writing sessions were I would prefer the touch button. It's more discrete and more professional. For a keyboard i use a magic keyboard with all ipads and mac. usually they are on stands for serious work. Side car and all that. I don't like cases with keyboards. My main preferred editing, writing tool and note taking is the pencil. Keyboards are a necessary evil. The ipad folder keyboards are ridiculously expensive as well.

  • @Plutonas
    @Plutonas 2 місяці тому

13 inches is way too big to move out every day, the 13 version is more like once or twice per week out for university maybe, and mostly a household device. The 11-inch on the other hand is more versatile; if you need a bigger screen, you can connect it to your monitor or TV. On the other hand, I am not thinking of the keyboard, which costs 300-400 euros, I am thinking of a mobile phone instead. But you can get good Bluetooth and so much cheaper keyboards to do stuff. One thing only bugs me and that is the storage space. I am between the 256 for the 11 inches or 512? I do some games, mostly writing for university (maths, chemistry), some stuff for work, but also photography. I spend many hours per day out, up to 12-14 hours out, so I consider the 13 version a risk, too big to walk around with it, the bending issue if I stress it a lot, and some other minor things.

    Hi Greg,
I recently purchased the 13-inch Air with the Apple keyboard. I was wondering if the Apple keyboard can do the "command + F" shortcut. I tried to research it but I couldn't find an answer for the iPad only for the MAC. I'm not sure if I articulated it well but I just mean to be able to quickly search for specific information in textbooks and on websites (my main goal is to use it for school haha) Anyways, Thank you for this awesome and informative video. Honestly I was super excited about the new iPad line up. Anticipation mounted with the delays but this soon changed to disappointment. Yes it’s faster (again). Yes a new size for the air. But as someone with a 2020 pro which other than the chip is the same and in many ways better than the air and without any significant differences in terms of performance when it comes to 90% of the usage against the new Pro, I’m just not seeing a compelling reason to upgrade.
    Let’s see if WWDC provides a reason…….

In another year or so when I upgrade, think the 12.9 Air will be sufficient (use a Pencil and Magic keyboard so an upgrade of those too). I listen to Ipad with airpods or earphones so speaker doesn't make any difference either. Lack of face ID will be annoying but for the difference in price--expect I can get used to it--and in a year or so--they may change that too in the Air.

  • @SvenskaIdioterna

Well, I have the macbook pro m3 max, top spec except for ram and storage. I just need an ipad as a side device, mainly for entertainment. I still got the pro 11" in the end, I managed to get it at an outlet, new and never used, for about 20% less, just got the base spec, so 256GB but certainly enough to store A LOT of novels, books, videos and audio books. Can store months worth of media easily and I have a small external m.2 ssd with blazing fast speed that I can store all my stuff on in case I want something else on the go.
Luckily for me, I don't need the apple keyboard or pen in the slightest. I mean, I wouldn't complain if I got it, but I just use a mx anywhere 3s and mx keys mini instead if I need a keyboard/mouse kind of thing. The pen is useless to me.
I mean, yeah, maybe the pro is overkill for just media as a side device to use mostly outside of my home, but the tandem oled is better than the m2 pro screen you showed here, the 4 speakers are as you say much nicer, the 120hz will be noticeable for me, especially when reading with all the scrolling, the brightness is a big bonus for outside use and overall the m4 chip will be a longer lasting one than the older m2. But the lack of face ID is somehow one of the most important deciding factors, I just can't stomach the idea of using touch ID again after so many years, except for with my macbook pro but my apple watch unlocks it most of the time. It just ends up being a massive annoyance as it builds up over the years of use it will get, that alone is worth at least 200 bucks.
I got the 256gb pro 11" for about the same price as the 11" air 512gb that I was eyeing at first. Though I got a deal on that too, so it was going to end up a bit cheaper, but I'd rather have 256gb storage and a little bit less content stored and need to transfer things slightly more if that means I can get many more important pros. I mean, since m.2 external ssd exist now that are quite small and light, I see no reason to pay much more for a little bit more memory.
Now I'm just afraid 11" will be too small for me but since I want to bring it along everywhere and I'll be using a pretty bulky ESR case, I think it's better if it's more portable. The difference isn't extreme, the ipad 11" is already about half the size of my 16" macbook pro screen, it'd be just right for reading and consuming content.

I own the iPad Air 4th generation, when they finally adopted the current design instead of the older one on the iPad Air 3rd generation. I bought it for the Apple Pencil 2 and handed my iPad Air 3 to my brother, and honestly aside from not having the gold color I loved anymore I had no regrets. I had some small urges over getting a larger iPad Pro just for the bigger size and luxury of making notes easier - I'm a heavy Goodnotes user for studies and work, and I don't use a keyboard attached to it. This 13" iPad Air is probably the one I'll upgrade to if I pull the trigger. My current iPad Air still does the job well and can continue to serve me for a long time coming, but it'd actually be nice to not feel the pain of writing notes by the far edge of the iPad.. it's uncomfortable and does get me to not write properly there as well.

Right now, I definitely understand it's a luxury to have instead of a necessity, given I already own an iPad and I'd need a new pencil if I choose to go buy a new one. Yeah that the key board for this does not have function keys is a bumber specially if you consider that the one of the regular iPad does. That said I am not in the tablet market and I am more of an Andriod guy but I played with the configuration of this iPad more then with that of the Pro. Also you can upgrade this thing to a decent storage option (512 GB or more) without paying a ton (it is still a lot but not so much as for the Pro or Macs right?).

Displays are mostly overrated. You get used to it either way. Works with basically everything. Your brain is lazy and wants to put in minimal effort to perceive reality, so it balances out your hormones and neurotransmitters and shit to make you feel normal. This is why people with radically different levels of development around the world generally just feel normal. Live in a shack eating grains and sleeping on a pile of hay for long enough and you will eventually stop noticing that you aren’t on a tempurpedic bed ordering Uber Eats with central heating. Go from the shack to the 2 story house, and eventually you’ll stop feeling grateful and if you live in our consumer culture will start feeling angry that someone else has it even better than you.
Long story short, don’t spend money you don’t have just for the display. If you have the money, go nuts, but if you’re some kid in college it’s not worth it.

Bought the 13" Air today! In Europe the Pro is almost €600 more expensive.
