    The Get Back documentary is, amongst many things, 9 hours of Ringo sitting patiently behind his drum kit and just launching in to a steady, perfect groove the moment the others needed it. Legend.

He was there with them every night putting in the hours. For whatever reason though he never improved or grew as a musician much like the other 3. He was never going to be suitable for recording. Ringo was a true pro and so much better than him.

    • @meanolduncleeli904

      Paul does really long 3+ hour concerts.
      Ringo does around 1&1/2 hour concerts, and I think he takes a break from the stage while the band plays different songs for a bit. So maybe he wants to take it easy while Paul wants to play nonstop. I don’t think they’ed enjoy touring together.
      When I saw Ringo he sang most of the time, and only played the drums here and there.
      And Ringo doesn’t have the vocal range to sing with Paul in most songs.
      When Paul would write songs for Ringo to sing on albums for The Beatles he’d write the song within Ringo’s range. So singing backup on Oh Darling would not work.

    • @HalfEatenMedia
      @HalfEatenMedia 7 місяців тому

      I think this comes down to Ringo not wanting to do it. Playing the drums is a highly energetic instrument that he may not have full energy to do an entire tour. I think he feels he has less to offer except for a few songs. It’s a shame for the audience because we want to see them team up. Ringo seems happy though so that’s all that matters to me. He put out some great albums himself.

    • @peterowen9183
      @peterowen9183 2 роки тому +10

      You were right to defend him. That *slightly* dragging, fractionally behind-the-beat thing - that's what makes rock'n'roll swing, in a way that four-on-the-floor soul music and rock music drumming don't. So basically Ringo invented rock'n'roll drumming, and now all rock'n'roll drummers do it. OK, maybe Charlie Watts simultaneously invented it. But you know what I mean. Keith Moon was a genius, but he was a rock drummer. Ringo and Charlie were rock'n'roll, and they pretty much invented that style.

    Every family needs a Ringo. The infinitely patient glue that holds everyone down to earth. The one whos just happy to be there, wants to see everyone else as happy, and carries zero ego
    You also NEED a Paul, the youthful, active and enthusiastic one who drags the rest along. And even though they annoy the piss out of you in the moment, you eventually come to appreciate it and all they did.
    You NEED a George! The wise "sage-like" old before their time one. The one who questions everything and criticizes every step of the way. The value being, you cut out most of the unnecessary bullshit when you have a George in your corner
    And where would any of them be without a leader? Without someone to align behind and trudge through the worst of it?That was John
    They were the core family group.

    I read an interview with Ray Charles many years ago and I have never forgotten what he said -- he said "when I first heard the Long and Winding Road by The Beatles I cried" -- I hope Sir Paul is aware of that quote, I believe it would mean a lot to him to have known Ray felt that way about his song. To have touched Ray so with that song that it brought him to tears says so much. I think it is one of the greatest songs ever written, great melody and great lyric.

    I think one reason Lennon writes better lyrics and McCartney writes better orchestration is shown by McCartney trying to figure out word by word what to use. When John helped George with All Things he just said “use a mind can blow the clouds away” off the cuff. Immediate, instinct, don’t overthink. But that meant his instrumentations were rougher too

    I’m not a Paul hater, he’s my favorite beatle. But it’s a recurring theme that when he writes mainly lyrics he likes to “bounce” his ideas off of people and many times the people who he’s “bouncing” off of offer him a line that he hadn’t come up with. It seems like this is the way he used to write. With that said, I think it’s pretty unfair to “use” people to get your songs right, yet not share the credit even if the tiniest bit. You could make an argument that Mal “contributed” to the lyrics of long and winding road ( and George Harrison in other songs; we’ve all seen those clips of Harrison stating that he helped with lyrics a lot)
