One extremely minor thing like the aracnophobia mode has a very interesting approach. All spiders are replaced by crabs, which have their own unique model, sounds, slightly different animations, and even the miniboss version of the mob has its own name. EVEN, there is a class that can transform into a couple monsters, including spiders, and with the phobia mode you can transform into a CRAAAAB, BE CRAB, PRAISE CRAB (the transform spell also has a costum icon)
i really like that. i dont have arachnophobia but think most arachnophobia mods/modes are really lazy/dumb but that actually is a full replacement/substitution
I LOVE Barony, and it just got a HUGE update too. They added TONS of new hats that each have new stats, EVERY ITEM now has custom sprites in your inventory and mimic chests . Barony has so much content and secrets and techs to learn and discover and its awesome to see people enjoying it.
I can't believe I made this and released it the day before the Hat Update dropped, I have so much new footage of me dying to Mimics I wish I had a chance to include hahaha
i like that elder scrolls reference with the lusty goblin maid being a parody of the lusty argonian maid. also i have seen this game like genuinley 20 times on steam but NEVER clicked on it. might pick it up now
Started playing barony with my friend a few weeks ago, unless one of us have to work in the morning we’ve played it every night for hours. One of the best games I’ve ever played :)
I have actually played this game many years ago and i keep coming back to it because the creator keeps adding more and more content into it. It is very inderated!
its funny that i've been playing roguelikes for like 7 years now and watching videos about them quite a lot but got one about barony in my recommended only few days ago lol playing for 2 days now and this is pretty cool, got bouldered the first time i got to stage 5
I credit him as inspiration in the description hahaha I’ve watched him since the league days, I think most of my gaming habits are thanks to his recommendations
Not surprising in the slightest. User interface is one of the most important aspects of user experience, because it's the first thing your players interact with. So if your interface sucks, most players will give up even before they start actually playing
It was just on sale recently and me and my friends got into it and we're having an absolute blast, the mods are also amazing too. The game is so much fun, challenging and rewarding. There are secrets and boulders around every corner too. Sometimes if you just think there might be a room behind a wall cause it vaguely looks like there might be, break that wall! Theres so much to this game hidden under a random dungeoning voxel game. There's just so so much to it and it's so rewarding finding anything new. There's so much love put into this game from simple dialogue, the random books with lore, the named npcs like Algernon (rip), and even the EXIT GAME button lol! This is a must check out
I must say, I just stumbled upon this channel and then proceeded to watch every video so far. These are all really clean videos, and it’s nice to see these bite sized reviews for games that I hadn’t played, most of which I hadn’t heard of, and hopefully one day I can at least try some of them. Keep up the great work!
This game has actually been chilling on my wish list for a while. It reminded me of a similar game I played call Delver. It's basically a more bare-bones version of Barony. Not really. But they're both 3d pixel roguelike dungeon crawlers. Barony may have been inspired by it, as Delver came first. 😄
I love this game so much, but I never have anyone to play with. I even bought the bundle, and gave way game keys to three of my friends: one played it once with me; one never loaded it up; one couldn't get past the tutorial. But the one friend that played with me, we had a crazy good character synergy where I played as an automaton mechanist, and he played a skeleton rogue, and we recruited a huge group of NPCs and started steamrolling everything... until I gave him a necklace that was supposed to make monsters attack one another, and the NPC adventurers turned on us as soon as he put it on, lol.
Most hated part of barony is when you play it so much you know the layout of all the rooms, that and power leveling will make every run well over 2 hours.
I actually decided to randomly get this game a few months ago because it worked on the Steam Deck, and while its a lot to digest at first, I really do enjoy it. I await more players to hop on it because having some pals to run the game with would be fun!
it is good but also it is a real Dungeon Crawler(not balanced for a easy progression and enjoyable experience) and that make everyone trying it quit after a few minutes.
Fun fact: there's actually a mobile game similar to barony with an almost similar Mechanic's aswell, the the only difference is it's turn based instead and lacks a few things from barony so id anyone's interested it's "shattered pixel dungeon"
The difficulty absolute scales, I’ve had some pretty decent runs that I didn’t want to show because fear of spoilers, and I think the later levels tend to be more fun if you’re running a class like the conjurer or you’re with friends
this man like once you reach ruins you are just going through the motions at that point, only the first 2 levels are "hard" its such a shame bcs the game has a solid foundation
more people need to host public lobbies currently it's suffering "friends only syndrome" I hope with your endorsement of this gem more public lobbies will be hosted
It was in early access and barely playable for like 9 of those years. It only "came out" in like august of last year. Before that it was actually pretty bad.
Doesn’t change much :) it actually makes it far more impressive, if it was bad I’d expect far more negative reviews but it’s maintained positive that entire time, and now released in an amazing place
@@EljayIsHere There was definitely a period of time when it had negative reviews. The thing is nobody played it then. Its release is pretty much not even the same game it was even 3 years ago. Definitely did not maintain positive reviews the entire time its just the release reviews eclipsed older one.
Wow, that’s a new one for me, I feel like everyone I talk to loves the combat, because it’s all timed so carefully to do properly. It’s similar to dark souls needing to watch the enemies movements, or swap weapons to take on certain enemies who are resistant to other types. It’s such a deep combat system in my opinion.
truth be told I have heard of this game but it sounds way to hard for me. Kind of wish there was a character progression system so my next run is a little more easy......AND NO LEARNING HOW TO PLAY DOES NOT COUNT!
I think there are plenty of Roguelites out there in a similar vein that do this :) It sortve removes the concept of trying to recapture the old school brutal dungeon crawler if they did. Don’t get me wrong I love a good roguelite, I just don’t think every roguelike needs it as a mode.
@EljayIsHere sadly there does not to be any games like this game that has what I want....however I read you can cheat in the game I could make my own progression rules and just cheat in some progression.
I showed the late game bosses of Loop hero and late game of valheim, people said it felt like spoilers so I am trying to be better at not revealing too much, but I’m starting to realise I can’t please everyone
I tried that as well in some early videos, and the retention rate at that point went from about 60% to 20% and never recovered, because I guess people left entirely rather than click ahead, it's okay though! I'll figure out a solution! Its likely just a balancing act and I'll get there! :)
tried the game for a few hours. it does too much and too complex/hard RNG is annoying. too many mechanics even on the first floors. there are too many ways to get killed in random.
If we are learning anything on this channel it's that a game needs to make me laugh, and I clearly have a punishment kink.

I had a lot of trouble playing because of the spiders and then they released the arachnophobia mode a few days later. Truly amazing.
The part that hit the hardest was “I don’t have friends to play with join my discord”. I feel that all to much.

And here goes another game immediately added to my wishlist... this looked like so much fun!

I love how this looks like a minecraft texture pack but is more dungeon-crawl RPG, definitely up my alley
after watching the video I found the true hidden gem....
you and the channel
That’s so nice hahaha ty
Nice video about one of my favorite roguelikes
I liked this game a lot but it still feels like it's only scratching the surface of what a realtime 3d first person roguelike could be
Fantastic Barony video, nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
this would be AWESOME as an online game, or at least with community servers
This would be amazing in VR
Ancient dungeon vr is kind of similar but vr.
Yay! I will hate this game with how much I'll love it, thanks.
Hahahaha too real
this looks like it’d be incredibly fun but it also looks like it’ll frustrate me too much for me to enjoy it
The light hearted tone, funny characters, and overall speed actually makes the difficulty not that frustrating
