Hans; I do believe you are a quite spoiled metal detectorist! The rest of us have to work through tangled vines, poison ivy and rocky soil- you have a billiard table flat, groomed field, full of ancient artifacts- some guys have all the luck!! Wonderful video and presentation, the finds were incredible, well preserved and diverse. Love the nature shots and your informative narrative is a great bonus. Thanks, Fred
***** hello fred! yes i am and it scares me a bit because i know that leaner times will come again. . .but i've learned to handle that as it is the way the hobby is. . . thank you for watching and commenting! i'm happy about all the nice things you've said about my videos! thank you again :) all the best, GL&HH! hans
Thank you Hans for another interesting and well done video. The finds were amazing, and I especially liked the very well done shots of the landscapes and the flora. Wishing to you many more successful and fruitful hunts.
johnorlitta hello john, thank you for watching it my friend! i'm glad that you liked it, the finds and nature shots. . .i can't pass these amazing views without filming them. . .i'm happy that you appreciate the clips! thank you for your kind words!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Great finds Hans, I hope all is well. Roman-Barbaric coins are so interesting and beautiful! Thanks for your hard work we realy appretiate it. Big rains high temps here on Wis.-Mich. border,Summer is finally here! Time to go fishing and been finding some interesting objects washed up from recent approx. 5" of rain! Good hunting, bless you my friend! Frank
Frank D'Alberto hello frank! i'm fine, thank you! i hope all is well with you, too! i like these barbaric imitations . . .they are indeed beautiful and they have a special historical value! i'm curious about how summer will be here in germany. . .at the moment we have mild temperatures and a mix of sun and rain. . .it's ok! i don't need the extremes :) thank you for watching and for your kind words my friend! all the best, GL&HH! hans
What a great video. Those faces on those coins are great. I'm always thankful for those careless forgotten people who lost their items. I love the buckles you find. I even liked seeing the trash at the end. It interesting to compare. Thanks Hans!
Cliff Dvorak hello cliff, thank you my friend, i'm glad you like my videos and the finds! i'm grateful too, if only they had known that their lost items make us so happy today. . .i think their anger about the loss would have been half as bad :D the trash is metal detecting reality. . not showing it would be fake :) thank you for watching and commenting!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
I so much enjoy your metal detecting videos. Your photography is stunning and your explanations and identifications are awesome. Your work is greatly appreciated.
So fun to revisit one of your old videos Hans, It reminds me of the 12 months where I was very busy working from home and didn't watch any TV shows, movies or anything EXCEPT you here on youtube. It took me a whole year to watch your full playlist but was such a pleasure to follow you. Hope you post many more vids soon! Bring on Autumn when the farmers make their harvests.
wow, that's flattering :) thank you for watching my videos and for your kind words! I'm happy to hear that you enjoy watching them! all the best and good hunting, hans
AFK PREPPER hello my friend. . .thank you for watching and for your kind words! i'm glad you like the hunt and the countryside shots :) all the best and thank you for your kind comment! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Chuffedagenix hello my friend. . .thank you for your kind words and for watching my video! i'm glad you liked it and the finds! i really like the buckle too. . .round ones are quite rare :) all the best, hans
Wow Hans, so many Roman coins and such fine detail. What a great day you had. I always look forward to your new videos. Thank you for sharing your beautiful relics.
get in hello :) it's amazing, isn't it? this site will spoil me forever. .lol thank you for watching my videos and for your kind comments!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
TerraGermania I don't blame you for feeling spoiled, I would be too. Do you still have enough time in this field before the farmer plants his crops? That field is like the cornucopia of all fields for relics, you have hit the jackpot so to speak. Enjoy, my friend. (O:
hello my friend. . .haha. . but it will come back at me when changing the site. . it wont be easy! the field is already seeded with pumpkins. . .late september it will be detectable again :D GL&HH! hans
I'm happy to hear that :) thank you for watching and for your kind comment! the farmer doesn't use chemical fertilizers as he does organic farming. maybe that's why the roman coins are in such great condition on this field. all the best, hans
HoardFinderNL hello marc! i really like to find thimbles. . .very nice relics and the roman coins still amaze me! what a cool hunt :)thank you for watching my video and for your kind words! it's much appreciated!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Hi Hans, some nice Roman coins, it's a pleasure to watch your videos obviously using quality equipment with some lovely close-up shots, well done.Good luck and H.H.
Stuart Bailey hello stuart, thank you for watching my video! i'm glad that you like my finds and the picture quality. . .pleas stay tuned :) thank you for your kind comment! all the best, GL&HH! hans
bud wieser hello neil! thank you for watching and for your kind comment! i'm glad you like my video! yes it is. . amazing condition for a bronze coin! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Hi Hans great video as always and some lovely finds, the small thimble would that maybe a child's thimble perhaps? That first Roman Coin is in beautiful condition well done and wish I could find such a coin or field that has those coins one day :-) love those buckles too very nice designs. Fantastic day out and loads of Roman finds, well done Hans yet again on saving History for everyone. GL & HH
Little John hello john, thank you my friend. . .i'm glad to hear that you like my video and the finds! could very well be a thimble for a child. . i can't think of a woman with small fingers like that. . .the condition of the romans was absolutely amazing and very unusual! i'm very interested in the reason why they came up so nice! i keep my fingers crossed for you to find a field like that too! i think you have good chances in england :) in which part of england do you live? thank you for watching and for your kind comment john! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Hi Hans and yes it would be very interesting to find out the reason for the Roman coins conditions. I live in Kent UK where a lot of Roman activity has happened over the years but I cannot gain permission for any of the sites to detect as they already have detectorists, it has only been up until this year that I managed to find my 2 tiny Edward 1st Farthing Hammered Coins but I'm always open minded as to what I may find. GL & HH
...the good thing is that you can find roman sites that are not recorded yet! my dream field wasn't on the maps of the archaeologists too. . .search along rivers and south facing fields with water next to it and you can find your own site. . .just think " where would i have settled back then" it's far more exciting to find a new spot that to detect recognized areas. . good luck!
lonewolf hello my friend. . .thank you for watching and for your kind words about my videos and commentary. . .i'm glad you like them :) all the best, GL&HH! hans

LG, GL&HH! hans
Gerardo Alvarez hey gerardo :) haha. . .maybe the romans would have made it to mexico if the barbarians didn't defeat them in europe. . .who knows! i'm happy to hear that you like the finds! thank you for watching and commenting my friend! all the best, hans
***** hello gary! i'm happy to hear that you like my video and the finds! thank you for watching and for your kind comment!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
jcricket 1710 hello my friend, thank you. . i'm very happy about them and i don't take them for granted :) i'm glad to hear that you like my video and the finds! thank you for watching and for your kind words!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Fantastic Hans! The small ancor buckle is of a shoe, a very common find on my permissions. lovely thimbles and what beautiful roman coins :). GL&HH Flo
SondeldieWaldfee hello flo :) thank you my friend. . .glad you like the hunt :) ....i found out that these buckles could be from boots as well. . .these boots had up to four small buckles up at the side of the boot, next to the knee ...1700s i would guess... thank you for watching and GL&HH! hans
Hello Hans: Judging from the looks of the rivets I believe they were used for leather work, for example, the making of horse bridles, etc. Lovely video, thanks! Kevin USA, CT
Kevin Weaver hello kevin! i thank you for your judge about the rivets. . .i think so too. . .sometimes they were use on sword scabbards as well! thank you for watching and for your kind comment! i'm glad you like my video! all the best, hans
The big man hello simon! i think so too and i'm grateful and happy to be able to detect it! thank you for watching and for your kind words! all the best, hans
Han's, Well done..Hopefully the farmer plants a quick growing variety of crop so you can get back on this field soon. Videos are great, keep up the fine work. Take Care
ItsAlwaysRusty hello my friend. . thank you, glad you like my video! haha. . the patch i was detecting in this video is now seeded with pumpkins . . it will be late september :P thank you for watching and take care too! all the best, hans
Andrew Colella hello andrew, thank you my friend! it's great that you like my videos :) it was a great day indeed! as you said, everything was optimal :) thank you for watching and for your kind comment!! all the best, hans
Hans! I can't even begin to describe how happy your videos make me. This one is exceptional. Your metal detecting videos are the best on the internet. The condition of those Roman coins. Breathtaking! And those tiny buckles! Wonderful! And you saved them from being lost forever. Thank you!
Tony Two-Cent hello tony! . . .and i can't tell you how happy you made me with your kind comment! thank you for the big compliments! i'm so glad that you like my videos and your comment is the fuel for me to go on :) thank you for watching my videos!!! all the best to you my friend, GL&HH! hans
Tony Two-Cent I gladly agree with Tony about your videos Hans. Last week Tony, myself and 3 other friends met for a group treasure hunt and we all agreed your videos are the best and the only ones we like to watch that are more than 20 minutes long! Your camera placement and editing are so well done it feels like you have your very own videographer who follows you on your hunts! Best wishes and HH, Dave.
hey dave, i really don't know what to say. . i'm just overwhelmed by your kind words about my videos. . .thank you a thousand times! i'm so glad to hear that and it's still unbelievable for me that people actually take their time to watch my videos and that they like them. . .thank you for watching my videos dave! i appreciate your support! all the best, GL&HH! hans
TerraGermania For me it's my love for Deutschland and the rich history, good and bad. It's what makes it so wonderful. But the greatest treasure of Deutschland is the German people. I am looking forward to your next video release Hans.
hello rob! thank you for your kind words my friend! i'm very happy to hear that you love germany and the people! it's something that you don't hear often as a german hahah . . . thank you for watching my videos and for your nice comments! all the best, hans
dean357 It's indeed a great filed and i don't take it for granted to detect it. . .I cant wait to go back there but I'll have to wait for quite some time as it is under crops already. . . thank you for watching!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Those Roman coins were in excellent condition, couldn't ask for better. Shame it's going to be seeded soon, all my fields are in crop so harvest can't come soon enough. GL & HH.
enginemaker hello my friend, unbelievable condition for bronze coins. . i'm trying to find the reason for that! haha. . the field is already seeded. . .buhuu! it's seeded with pumpkins so i have to wait to late september. . . thank you for watching and commenting!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
You do such a nice job on the videos. Wonderful finds! Just letting you know that I am still viewing your videos. Like Tony Two-Cent, they make me happy as well. I wish you all the best in the hunting and hope you can work that field more before they plant. I saw that gold necklace or bracelet whichever, so now I think maybe a big gold coin next? By the way, that necklace you found might have been in the ground for a long time. Maybe even from the 1960's or so. It would be cool to see you and Richard (Pondguru) team up to hunt a field someplace. I bet you two guys would get on quite well. Anyway, best of luck and happy hunting. Mike
BlasterStumps hello my friend. . . thank you very much for your kind words about my videos and finds! i't makes me very happy to hear that you like them! unfortunately the field is already sown with pumpkins. . .it will be detectable in late september again. . long, long time haha. . . the farmer didn't find the owner of the bracelet. . .i agree with you that it has to be older! richard is a nice guy and i'm very grateful for his support to promote my channel! it would be great to detect with him! thank you for watching my videos and for your kind comment!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
You do a great job Hans, and your English is exceptional, much better than my German although I worked for E. Leitz years ago repairing Leica cameras and all my associates were either German, Swiss or Austrian. The rivets were also used for leather armor. Very envious of your permission on that land, here in the us we think something is old if it's from the 1800's. In European terms, 1800's is brand new :-). Thanks for all your efforts Peace, GL,HH, Kevin
Kevin Weaver hello kevin, thank you very much for your kind words my friend, i'm very happy to hear that :) it's a big compliment for me! i think i have to work a bit more on my grammar though ;) europe has an amazing history and is of course very exciting to detect. . .but i know that you can make amazing finds in the us too. . .one thing that i envy you for is the possibility to find gold nuggets :) thank you again for your nice comment and for watching my videos!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Every time I think "It can get better than this" you manage to take your finds and vids to another level ! Stunning finds and again very great nature stills. At 7:06 there's even a little "apocalyptic" scene, where you're walking in the middle of the field surrounded by a threatening end of days atmosphere (sorry but I have a lot of imagination ;-) ). Reminded me at scenes of Mad Max...GL&HH
Johan de vlieger hello johan :) thank you for your kind words. . i hope i can hold this level. .haha. . but i'm doing this hobby long enough to know that lean times are part of the game, too. . . haha. .it's sort of apocalyptic if you think that i'm detecting a gone down settlement . . . thank you for watching my friend! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Hello Hans, thank you for the amazing videos. I have seen the last 3 and am so excited by the details remaining on the roman coins.wonderful. You should be teaching. GL/HH…bill
Sco/ire America hello bill, thank you so much for watching my videos and for your kind words! i'm glad that you like what i do! all the best to you and GL&HH! hans

+wigancardismantlers wigancardismantlers hello allan, thank you for watching and for your kind comment! I'm glad to hear that you like my videos :) all the best, hans
Man, what a hunt! I just can't believe you are finding so many Roman things! Glass was really nice as well as those minums which looked freshly minted. My prediction?....you are going to find a gold Roman coin or maybe several....and I can't wait to see the video!
Greg Kerr hello greg! thank you for your kind comment and for watching! i can't believe it , too! it's an extraordinary site that will spoil me forever . . haha. . i'm very grateful and i don't take it for granted! i hope you are right about your prediction and i would love to show it in a video :) all the best my friend! hans

+eric land hello eric! i'm really happy about living in this part of germany. . not only because of the nice finds one can make here :) so much history and beautiful places to go. . . Dude ! Klaus and the boys brought there "A" game last night .... 50 years together as a band , my hat go's off to em for that . What a Show ! Germany is my favorite country to visit , we are coming early fall of next year . My queen has never been over seas...plus ...I have family there too . So I figured I'd bring her to the top spot on my list . Keep the vid's coming , we'll be watching !
I'm happy to hear you had a great time! It's too long ago that I've been to a concert . . . I would lover to see them live as I'm very much into hard rock and even metal (no wonder) drop me a line If your visit includes the frankfurt area . . .we could have a beer together. . . I'll try my best, thank you for watching :)
Hi Hans, unbelievable finds you have made! The coins are awesome, the complete buckles as well. Wish I could have one of these fields in my region as well. GL&HH, Paul
hotliner hey my friend! thank you for watching! i'm glad that you like the finds! i know that you are from austria. . .haven't the romans been in österreich as well?? all the best to you and GL&HH! hans
Ernesto Frettlöhr hello erneso! thank you my friend! i'm happy to hear that you like the finds! thank you for watching and commenting!!! all the best, hans
Another lovely video Hans and some great finds, a little help with some English for you :) ... when we say "state" it usually means in poor condition, so you can change that to "condition" and all is well :) ... "look at the condition of this" is good ... but we all know what you did mean ;)
FPV Carlisle Cumbria thank you for watching and for the english lesson! i always appreciate corrections as i can learn something :) all the best, GL&HH! hans
Great finds Hans, awsome Roman coins, obviously a lot of people in that area had no trousers on judging by the buckle count lol not surprising with that German weather, I've been there without myself a few times lol ;) good work :)
Hans I want to see you find everyone of those roman coin's. You need to do a 1 hour directors cut! :) 2 coins in 1 hole. Surely there is a small hoard around about that spot. Congratulations.
LG, hans
john francis hello john! thank you for your kind words about my videos and for watching them! i'm very happy to hear that you like them! all the best, hans
A lot of roman coins in the same day, congratulations! Always its a pleasure to see your videos. Amazing way to make them, I know you need time to put the camera to record yourself, but the result is very good. I am waiting the next one!! :)
roybatty7 hello my friend. . .thank you for watching and for your kind words! I'm glad you like my videos. . .it's not as time consuming anymore. . i'm quite used to it now. . .it's great that you like the result :) all the best, hans
tnt neon hello tntneon! stunning coin, isn't it? i couldn't believe it in the first seconds! thank you for watching my video and for your kind comment! i appreciate it :) all the best my friend! GL&HH! hans
LG, hans
Hello Hans, what an amazing field. Im glad to have your older videos for the colder months. I see this video was made in 2015, have you ever been back to this field since then? The condition of that first coin was unbelievable, all the crisp detail. I see the rivets you find and my mind wanders, thinking was it from their armour or perhaps something less dramatic? I can’t imagine what it must be like to have all that history buried beneath you then to find it and hold it in your hand. I would never tire of that. All the best to you, Victoria
hello victoria, this is my dream field and I've been detecting on it several times since the publication of this video. unfortunately I wasn't able to detect it for the last one and a half years as the farmer grows lucerne on it to enrich the field with nitrogen. I hope it will be detectable soon because I really miss to detect it as you can imagine. the rivets could be from all sorts of things... so it could well be from an armour :) thank you for watching and for your kind comment my friend. all the best, hans
Gosh if I found coins like that, I would probably faint! Absolutely amazing finds and the video clarity is by far the best that I've ever seen. The close up of the dirt and the panorama views of the countryside are incredible. I was wondering what type of camera do you use? Beautiful countryside that one day, since I'm retired I hope to visit as according to our census some of my grandparents came to America from Bayern, Baden and Bavaria to name a few. Continued GL & HH!
Naneubert hello! haha. . i nearly do sometimes. . .these coins are so old and the feeling to be the first one after almost 2000 years to hold them in my hands is just overwhelming! i'm very happy that you like the quality of my videos. . .i'm using the HX WA 30 from panasonic. i hope you manage to visit germany soon. . i'm sure you will like it. . bayern is sooo beautiful! thank you for watching my video and for your kind comment!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
~5:40 looks like a minim i recently found, also not in a bad condition Constans, AE4, 15mm, Trier. CONSTAN-S PF AVG, laurel and rosette-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / VICTORIAE DD AVGGQ NN, two Victories facing each other, each holding wreath and palm branch. N in lower centre. Mintmark: TRP. RIC VIII Trier 182 var (bust type and field mark). 337-350 AD or Constantius II AE4 of Trier. CONSTANTI-VS PF AVG; rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / VICTORIAE DD AVGGQ NN, two Victories standing facing each other, each holding a wreath and palm branch. Ivy leaf in centre. Mintmark TRP. RIC VIII Trier 183. 337-361 AD as always great vid and perfect finds, Glückwunsch :)
dat gaj hello :) thank you for watching and for your interesting and helpful comment! i wasn't sure about the definition so i decided not to name them... thank you for your kind words about my videos. . .i'm glad you like them :) all the best, GL&HH! hans
I love seeing people find historical artifacts like these, i bought myself a metal detector a few years back but unfortunately i've been diagnosed with adhd and i have lots of social anxiety, so therefore struggle to get permission anywhere. If anyone from abroad can get permission to detect anywhere in west yorkshire you are more than welcome to stay at mine and take me with you on your hunts ;-p
sashacoe25 sorry to hear that! you should try it anyways! i know that it is easy for me to say that because i don't know how you suffer but i learned in my life that you have to face your fears. . .once you start doing it and you realize that nothing bad happens it's like a domino effect on all your other fears. . . good luck! thank you for watching and commenting! all the best, hans
Tom Eckersley hello tom :) thank you my friend, i'm glad you like the finds! i had the luck to stumble over a settlement. . .keep my fingers crossed for you to find more romans in the future :) thank you for watching!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
Another great video.Surprised the state the roman coins are.Are you send every coin to the archeologist or what ?And you must have a special collection .All th best Ben.
benwiwi67 hello ben, thank you my firend, i'm glad you like it :) i hand over all ancient and substantial finds to the archaeologists. . .i'm not interested in money or a huge collection to boast with. . .all i keep are my photos of them and the videos :) thank you for watching!!! all the best, hans
Maybe the rivets were from a bag/satchel that had the coins in them. The bag has rotted away and the coins were scattered around the field over the centuries?
+Masis Panos hello! nice thought! on a small area I would consider this possibility. . .but the coins are littered over an area with the size of two football fields. it's most likely that the place was a settlement in the past. . . thank you anyway for your guess and for watching my video! all the best, GL&HH! hans
it must have been something geological for those minims to be in such good shape, likely they were somehow kept dry within clots of earth that repelled moisture, like sun baked clay
I think it rather has something to do with the alloy the coins are made of. I keep finding coins of different conditions on the same field. thank you for watching!
my pleasure! thank you for watching them.. the coin is a late roman minim. . most likely from the constantin I era. more precise information will be given by the archaeologists and I will pass it on to all of you :)
Sauna Tonttu you are right, thank you for confirming it. . .always nice finds these buckles :) thank you for watching and commenting!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
wadoman699 thank you my friend. . .i'm glad you like the finds. . i'm very happy about them too! haha. . i don't know but if he does i would have the preemption :D thank you for watching!!! all the best, hans
the larger musket ball appears to have been pulled. That is to say, the gun was loaded and then unloaded by way of a screw that attaches to the ram rod. Should that hole be deep it was likely made by pulling it.
Hi Hans. I think I've watched every metal detecting video that you and PondGuru have made - superbly made and a pleasure to watch. Can I ask how you identify the finds so quickly? Especially their age. Is it research/experience from previous finds or do you have a background in archaeology?
Geo Jon hello geo jon, thank you for watching my videos and for your kind words! i'm very happy to hear that you like them :) . . .it's experience . . .if you do this hobby for a while you will find the same or similar items again and again. . .but i'm still not an expert! it's too wide a subject :) i have regular meetings with my archaeologist and he defines a lot of things for me. . .all the best, hans
the farmer grows organic vegetables on his fields and he doesn't use chemicals or artificial fertilizers. this biobased method indeed spares metal objects in the ground. thank you for watching!
Beautiful roman coins, as always! And the coin you had at 5:51 is not barbaric, it just looks barbaric because of the poor quality of the art during the mid 4th century
The Milkmann thank you for telling me. . .the front with the bust looks very good but the soldiers look a bit like stickman. . that's why i thought it might be a barbaric imitation, too. thank you for watching!!! all the best, hans
Hi my European bruva , I Luv your metal detecting videos I think you are very cool and I would luv to go metal detecting with you in Germany if that's o.k. with you my name is jack and I live in England and I have been metal detecting for about 4years now and I have had a lot of good finds up in the north of England which is quite good considering not much happened there, can you also tell me what that earth mound with wooden post around it on the beginning of your videos, keep up the great work you do ,I think you are amazing , if I bring my minelab metal detector with me and my gear would you be up for going metal detecting together. from your mate in the UK JACK
Jack Astley hello jack, thank you very much for your kind words about my channel and thank you for watching my videos! i would love to go detecting with you but unfortunately i'm not allowed to bring other detectorists to my sites. . .it's one term of my permission of the archaeological department. . .the permissions are only valid for the permission holder. laws are quite strict here in germany..we don't have liberal detecting laws like you in the uk. . . sorry my friend! all the best, GL&HH! hans
mick lock hello mick, i have to document every single coin with my gps device. there is no conspicuous pattern that would speak for a hoard by now. . .you can see clusters spread over the field but no indication for a center where the finds could come from. the next step will be a geomagnetic prospection . . .i'm very excited about the result! thank you for watching!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans
hi! yes i did but you can see nothing. . .it's a mystery and not only for me. . the archaeologists are guessing too! we'll have to wait for the results of the prospection :) thank you, i will :)
MrGerryodonothing haha. . i know. .i keep saying "i found a button and the shank is missing" was funny to say it the other way around. . .it's the second time it happened to me :) thank you for watching!!! all the best, hans
Hans;
I do believe you are a quite spoiled metal detectorist!
***** hello fred!
yes i am and it scares me a bit because i know that leaner times will come again. . .but i've learned to handle that as it is the way the hobby is. . .
thank you for watching and commenting! i'm happy about all the nice things you've said about my videos! thank you again :)
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
Thank you Hans for another interesting and well done video. The finds were amazing, and I especially liked the very well done shots of the landscapes and the flora. Wishing to you many more successful and fruitful hunts.
johnorlitta hello john,
thank you for watching it my friend! i'm glad that you liked it, the finds and nature shots. . .i can't pass these amazing views without filming them. . .i'm happy that you appreciate the clips!
thank you for your kind words!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
Frank
Frank D'Alberto hello frank!
i'm fine, thank you! i hope all is well with you, too! i like these barbaric imitations . . .they are indeed beautiful and they have a special historical value!
i'm curious about how summer will be here in germany. . .at the moment we have mild temperatures and a mix of sun and rain. . .it's ok! i don't need the extremes :)
thank you for watching and for your kind words my friend!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
What a great video. Those faces on those coins are great. I'm always thankful for those careless forgotten people who lost their items. I love the buckles you find. I even liked seeing the trash at the end. It interesting to compare. Thanks Hans!
Cliff Dvorak hello cliff,
thank you my friend, i'm glad you like my videos and the finds! i'm grateful too, if only they had known that their lost items make us so happy today. . .i think their anger about the loss would have been half as bad :D
the trash is metal detecting reality. . not showing it would be fake :)
thank you for watching and commenting!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
I so much enjoy your metal detecting videos. Your photography is stunning and your explanations and identifications are awesome. Your work is greatly appreciated.
I'm very happy to hear that randy! thank you for watching and for your kind words!
I'm happy to hear that you enjoy watching them! all the best and good hunting,
hans

it's amazing, isn't it? this site will spoil me forever. .lol thank you for watching my videos and for your kind comments!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
TerraGermania I don't blame you for feeling spoiled, I would be too. Do you still have enough time in this field before the farmer plants his crops? That field is like the cornucopia of all fields for relics, you have hit the jackpot so to speak. Enjoy, my friend. (O:
hello my friend. . .haha. . but it will come back at me when changing the site. . it wont be easy!
the field is already seeded with pumpkins. . .late september it will be detectable again :D
GL&HH!
hans
This video is really great. The condition of the coins is outstanding. Love all your old videos Hans. Keep it up! Can't wait to see more!
I'm happy to hear that :) thank you for watching and for your kind comment! the farmer doesn't use chemical fertilizers as he does organic farming. maybe that's why the roman coins are in such great condition on this field. all the best,
hans
Sweet "beehive" thimble Hans. Stunning Roman coins. Well preserved in the ground. Congrats. HH&GL Marc

GL & HH
Little John hello john,
thank you my friend. . .i'm glad to hear that you like my video and the finds! could very well be a thimble for a child. . i can't think of a woman with small fingers like that. . .the condition of the romans was absolutely amazing and very unusual! i'm very interested in the reason why they came up so nice!
i keep my fingers crossed for you to find a field like that too! i think you have good chances in england :) in which part of england do you live?
thank you for watching and for your kind comment john!
all the best, GL&HH!
GL & HH
...the good thing is that you can find roman sites that are not recorded yet! my dream field wasn't on the maps of the archaeologists too. . .search along rivers and south facing fields with water next to it and you can find your own site. . .just think " where would i have settled back then" it's far more exciting to find a new spot that to detect recognized areas. .
good luck!
great finds Hans, enjoy your videos and commentry, keep them coming, well done
lonewolf hello my friend. . .thank you for watching and for your kind words about my videos and commentary. . .i'm glad you like them :)

Hello Hans fantastic finds here in Mexico is really hard to find roman coins...enjoy them...are beautiful...thanks and happy hunting...:)
Gerardo Alvarez hey gerardo :)

GL&HH
Flo
SondeldieWaldfee hello flo :)
thank you my friend. . .glad you like the hunt :) ....i found out that these buckles could be from boots as well. . .these boots had up to four small buckles up at the side of the boot, next to the knee ...1700s i would guess...
thank you for watching and GL&HH!
hans
Fantastic finds! I can only dream. Thanks and good future luck.
Cheers
Doc
Hello Hans:
Judging from the looks of the rivets I believe they were used for leather work, for example, the making of horse bridles, etc.

Hans! I can't even begin to describe how happy your videos make me. This one is exceptional. Your metal detecting videos are the best on the internet. The condition of those Roman coins. Breathtaking! And those tiny buckles! Wonderful! And you saved them from being lost forever. Thank you!
Tony Two-Cent hello tony!
. . .and i can't tell you how happy you made me with your kind comment! thank you for the big compliments! i'm so glad that you like my videos and your comment is the fuel for me to go on :)
thank you for watching my videos!!!
all the best to you my friend, GL&HH!
Best wishes and HH, Dave.
hey dave,
i really don't know what to say. . i'm just overwhelmed by your kind words about my videos. . .thank you a thousand times! i'm so glad to hear that and it's still unbelievable for me that people actually take their time to watch my videos and that they like them. . .thank you for watching my videos dave! i appreciate your support!

TerraGermania
For me it's my love for Deutschland and the rich history, good and bad. It's what makes it so wonderful. But the greatest treasure of Deutschland is the German people.
I am looking forward to your next video release Hans.
hello rob!
thank you for your kind words my friend! i'm very happy to hear that you love germany and the people! it's something that you don't hear often as a german hahah . . .
thank you for watching my videos and for your nice comments!
all the best,

What a great field to detect on ,good quality vid as always ,looking forward to the next, GL and HH .
dean357 It's indeed a great filed and i don't take it for granted to detect it. . .I cant wait to go back there but I'll have to wait for quite some time as it is under crops already. . .
thank you for watching!!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
Those Roman coins were in excellent condition, couldn't ask for better. Shame it's going to be seeded soon, all my fields are in crop so harvest can't come soon enough. GL & HH.
enginemaker hello my friend,
unbelievable condition for bronze coins. . i'm trying to find the reason for that!
haha. . the field is already seeded. . .buhuu! it's seeded with pumpkins so i have to wait to late september. . .
thank you for watching and commenting!!!
all the best, GL&HH!

Thanks for all your efforts
Peace, GL,HH,
Kevin
Kevin Weaver hello kevin,
thank you very much for your kind words my friend, i'm very happy to hear that :) it's a big compliment for me! i think i have to work a bit more on my grammar though ;)
europe has an amazing history and is of course very exciting to detect. . .but i know that you can make amazing finds in the us too. . .one thing that i envy you for is the possibility to find gold nuggets :)
thank you again for your nice comment and for watching my videos!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
Johan de vlieger hello johan :)
thank you for your kind words. . i hope i can hold this level. .haha. . but i'm doing this hobby long enough to know that lean times are part of the game, too. . .
haha. .it's sort of apocalyptic if you think that i'm detecting a gone down settlement . . .
thank you for watching my friend!
all the best, GL&HH!

There were some gorgeous Roman coins in this video, Hans! Congratulations!
I miss my roman coin finds :D I have to wait until my "Dream Field" is free again. thank you for watching!

Man, what a hunt! I just can't believe you are finding so many Roman things! Glass was really nice as well as those minums which looked freshly minted. My prediction?....you are going to find a gold Roman coin or maybe several....and I can't wait to see the video!

Another lovely video Hans and some great finds, a little help with some English for you :) ... when we say "state" it usually means in poor condition, so you can change that to "condition" and all is well :) ... "look at the condition of this" is good ... but we all know what you did mean ;)
FPV Carlisle Cumbria thank you for watching and for the english lesson! i always appreciate corrections as i can learn something :)

Your welcome mate :) ATB +HH Rob+Tina
Great finds Hans, awsome Roman coins, obviously a lot of people in that area had no trousers on judging by the buckle count lol not surprising with that German weather, I've been there without myself a few times lol ;) good work :)
hello tom,
thank you for watching my video! I'm glad to hear you lie it! haha. . most of the buckles are shoe buckles :)
Hans I want to see you find everyone of those roman coin's. You need to do a 1 hour directors cut! :) 2 coins in 1 hole. Surely there is a small hoard around about that spot. Congratulations.
Excellent hunt in perfect conditions - awesome video again.
Nice one, Hans.

Hallo HAns,

Nice hunt. In the trash I saw a percussion cap from a pistol or rifle which predates cartage guns.
glad you like the hunt, thank you for watching. that would be a shame.. I consider percussion caps to be a desirable find..
great videos, love watching them.

A lot of roman coins in the same day, congratulations! Always its a pleasure to see your videos. Amazing way to make them, I know you need time to put the camera to record yourself, but the result is very good. I am waiting the next one!! :)

LG,
hans
Hello Hans, what an amazing field. Im glad to have your older videos for the colder months. I see this video was made in 2015, have you ever been back to this field since then? The condition of that first coin was unbelievable, all the crisp detail. I see the rivets you find and my mind wanders, thinking was it from their armour or perhaps something less dramatic? I can’t imagine what it must be like to have all that history buried beneath you then to find it and hold it in your hand. I would never tire of that.
All the best to you,
Victoria
hello victoria,
this is my dream field and I've been detecting on it several times since the publication of this video. unfortunately I wasn't able to detect it for the last one and a half years as the farmer grows lucerne on it to enrich the field with nitrogen. I hope it will be detectable soon because I really miss to detect it as you can imagine. the rivets could be from all sorts of things... so it could well be from an armour :)
thank you for watching and for your kind comment my friend.
all the best,

Hey,
anna volkman hallo anna,
hans
TerraGermania Hey,
LG,
hans
Nice Hans!
Excellent vid as ever Hans, :-)
Atb, Rich
Lovely finds Hans. I think I have only ever found 4 roman coins.

Another great video.Surprised the state the roman coins are.Are you send every coin to the archeologist or what ?And you must have a special collection .All th best Ben.
benwiwi67 hello ben,
thank you my firend, i'm glad you like it :)
i hand over all ancient and substantial finds to the archaeologists. . .i'm not interested in money or a huge collection to boast with. . .all i keep are my photos of them and the videos :)
thank you for watching!!!
all the best,
hans
That coins are amazing in that condition :)
I'm happy you like my videos and the finds! thank you for watching and for your kind comments my friend! all the best and happy christmas!
hans
Maybe the rivets were from a bag/satchel that had the coins in them. The bag has rotted away and the coins were scattered around the field over the centuries?
+Masis Panos hello!
nice thought! on a small area I would consider this possibility. . .but the coins are littered over an area with the size of two football fields. it's most likely that the place was a settlement in the past. . .
thank you anyway for your guess and for watching my video!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
Excellent!

brian cunningham hello brian!
thank you for watching my friend! i'm glad you like my video!!!
all the best,

it must have been something geological for those minims to be in such good shape, likely they were somehow kept dry within clots of earth that repelled moisture, like sun baked clay
I think it rather has something to do with the alloy the coins are made of. I keep finding coins of different conditions on the same field. thank you for watching!
Nice
Depths of History thank you for watching! I'm glad you like the video!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
Thanks man great video!
glad you like it! thank you for watching :)
Thanks for all these videos.
Haveyou determined that beautiful small coin, in the meantime??
my pleasure! thank you for watching them..
the coin is a late roman minim. . most likely from the constantin I era. more precise information will be given by the archaeologists and I will pass it on to all of you :)
Anchor buckles are shoe buckles. I believe that type dates to around 1700's.
Sauna Tonttu you are right, thank you for confirming it. . .always nice finds these buckles :)
thank you for watching and commenting!!!

Congrats, Hans, on some truly beautiful finds. You think that farmer would sell that field? ;-)
wadoman699 thank you my friend. . .i'm glad you like the finds. . i'm very happy about them too!
haha. . i don't know but if he does i would have the preemption :D
thank you for watching!!!
all the best,
hans
the larger musket ball appears to have been pulled. That is to say, the gun was loaded and then unloaded by way of a screw that attaches to the ram rod. Should that hole be deep it was likely made by pulling it.
interesting! I've never heard of that. thank you for telling me about this possibility!
Hi Hans. I think I've watched every metal detecting video that you and PondGuru have made - superbly made and a pleasure to watch. Can I ask how you identify the finds so quickly? Especially their age. Is it research/experience from previous finds or do you have a background in archaeology?
Geo Jon hello geo jon,
thank you for watching my videos and for your kind words! i'm very happy to hear that you like them :) . . .it's experience . . .if you do this hobby for a while you will find the same or similar items again and again. . .but i'm still not an expert! it's too wide a subject :) i have regular meetings with my archaeologist and he defines a lot of things for me. . .all the best,
hans
It seems the soil there is less acidic. Perhaps the farmer is spare in his use of nitrates.
the farmer grows organic vegetables on his fields and he doesn't use chemicals or artificial fertilizers. this biobased method indeed spares metal objects in the ground. thank you for watching!
Beautiful roman coins, as always! And the coin you had at 5:51 is not barbaric, it just looks barbaric because of the poor quality of the art during the mid 4th century
The Milkmann thank you for telling me. . .the front with the bust looks very good but the soldiers look a bit like stickman. . that's why i thought it might be a barbaric imitation, too.
thank you for watching!!!
all the best,
hans
Hi my European bruva , I Luv your metal detecting videos I think you are very cool and I would luv to go metal detecting with you in Germany if that's o.k. with you my name is jack and I live in England and I have been metal detecting for about 4years now and I have had a lot of good finds up in the north of England which is quite good considering not much happened there, can you also tell me what that earth mound with wooden post around it on the beginning of your videos, keep up the great work you do ,I think you are amazing , if I bring my minelab metal detector with me and my gear would you be up for going metal detecting together. from your mate in the UK JACK
Jack Astley hello jack,
thank you very much for your kind words about my channel and thank you for watching my videos! i would love to go detecting with you but unfortunately i'm not allowed to bring other detectorists to my sites. . .it's one term of my permission of the archaeological department. . .the permissions are only valid for the permission holder. laws are quite strict here in germany..we don't have liberal detecting laws like you in the uk. . .
sorry my friend!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
hi hans if you are plotting your finds on a gps or 10 digit grid then have a closer look you might find you have a hoard on that field
mick lock hello mick,
i have to document every single coin with my gps device. there is no conspicuous pattern that would speak for a hoard by now. . .you can see clusters spread over the field but no indication for a center where the finds could come from. the next step will be a geomagnetic prospection . . .i'm very excited about the result!
thank you for watching!!!
all the best, GL&HH!
hans
hi hans have you checked the field on google earth and looked for signs of a early settlement keep up the great work mate quality videos
hi! yes i did but you can see nothing. . .it's a mystery and not only for me. . the archaeologists are guessing too! we'll have to wait for the results of the prospection :)
thank you, i will :)
An eye without a button is a first as it's usually the other way around.
MrGerryodonothing haha. . i know. .i keep saying "i found a button and the shank is missing" was funny to say it the other way around. . .it's the second time it happened to me :)
thank you for watching!!!
all the best,
hans
