I was stoked when I heard this in the intro for the show "1899".
Ian gillans voice at child in time is an unique testament of him... letting out the best vocal ever done on an record... in early metal music.
He could sing an octave over the normal setting. Its sung vs vibrato and everything you need... full voice.
Great is the build up vs the machine gun pattern and the legendary blackmore solo recorded just 30 minutes before the session ends, an combination of music fitness and moddy stuff.
The whole song is how an song should been done, timeless and strong rythm, bass and drums tight rythm guitar solo and organ are off the cuff, yeah it was done very fine. 1970 was their year to show how an album ranked the charts over and over. Nice
This is a song protesting the Vietnam War. Terriffic song like no other. Please listen to their song Highway Star..it will blow you away. Love Deep Purple. Forerunners of heavy metal.
It’s not a protest to the Vietnam War it is a protest to the cold war that was going on at that time. 1969.

I remember telling my dad that keyboards have no place in rock music, he put this album on and behold I was thoroughly schooled.

I first heard this when I was probably 11, someone leant me a cd and I listened to it on the bus home from school one day. Blew my little mind it’s such an interesting song! I was a big Britney Spears fan so you can image how different I found it. I still listen to it on long drives :)

One of my favorite songs. Cool to see you enjoy it as well. Their most popular song is "Smoke on the Water" but I think their best song is probably "Perfect Strangers". A couple good options if you were to decide to react to more songs from this band.
