I’ve seen this song reacted to on many channels but your reaction, analysis and discussion is the best that I’ve ever seen. You GET them. They are rock legends. There are a lot of DP fans watching your channel. You can’t appreciate current metal genres W/O going back to the source and LZ, DP and a few others are the source. Great reaction again

@@TheAdventuresofTNT , unfortunately, most current musicians can't compare with these classic musicians. I strongly suggest "Perfect Strangers", which was an excellent song after Ian Gilliam returned to the band, and also "Space Truckin'" and "Highway Star". The live Space Truckin' from Made in Japan is great, but it's very long, so I don't know if you want to invest that much time, but it's outstanding. While you're at it, Symptom of the Universe from Back Sabbath is worth listening to, since it is the song where Iommi invented thrash back in the middle 70's (another day, another whole new genre for Iommi!).

I agree. I always tell people that Deep Purple is the that link that takes you from Led Zeppelin to Black Sabbath. They are a bit harder than LZ, but not as heavy as BS. Right in the middle.

This was always my favorite DeepPurple album although so many others don’t agree… The reason is everyone got their minutes to jam, no one was the leader as they all showed us what they can do… It was a little raw also which gave us that kind of live effort… The singer the bass an the drummer were just as loud, the keyboards stood out as much as the fantastic guitar work… So it was the most musically equal album they made in my opinion… It felt like a first album’ an I love the cover… very abstract everything about it..👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼

Saw them twice in concert. Both times, generously, ten percent of the fans knew what they were about to experience. 12,000 or so people experiencing this for the first time was amazing, remembering back to my first time experiencing it. If you enter wormhole mode again, "Burn" and "Lazy" are among a number of their pieces that deserve Opus Numbers. Yeah, their songs tend to be composed more than written.

Here's my thoughts. Imagine a retired general who reflects upon their military life and the many deaths that rests on their shoulders, both military and civilian, both friendly and opposition. It becomes too much for this persons soul and decide to take their own life. Hence.

You nailed the interpretation of the song. I couldn't agree more on this one. The only thing I would add is that Ian's scream might also have a more universal meaning to it - at least it does to me - his scream epitomises pain and suffering that all of us carry inside - for different reasons. That's why this song is immortal - it will speak to so many people for years to come. Anyway, thanks for this video, imo the best reaction to Child In Time on YT.

Firstly, I prefer studio to 'live', but as always, there are exceptions. This is one! The BBC, video recorded a live performance of this very song, and sonically it was as good as the studio version. It was done '70/71 or so. The nice thing is, you get to watch them perform up close and personal doing their craft. No, the audience is dead (or uncaring) The BBC requested that they hold their applause til end, so they could get a clean recording, and they did. It was worth it. You owe it to yourself (and wife) to give a listen/view in the future.

    Also the sleeve with the
    self-consuming dragon.
Honestly, I wouldn't have thought about

Greetings from Canada, eh!!! This album may have been the first album I ever bought. I was 12/13 at the time, 1970. I bought it on a whim, really, liked the cover art, and the band's name. No idea who they were but I played the life out of that record on a cheap $20 department store stereo. I immediately fell in love with this band, and I luckly got on the Deep Purple train in time for the "Machinehead", "Made in Japan" and "Who do we think we are" albums. Was crushed when they broke up, was NOT a fan of the new line-up but loved Richie Blackmore's "Rainbow" band. Deep Purple was/is always a train wreck of an operation. You could spend all day tracking down all the band members, but this group was the BEST of the bunch, and, yes, it' Ian Gillan, not Gilligan or other variations. Ian Gillan also found fame on the "Jesus Christ Superstar" album, as the voice of Jesus. That must look good on a resume, "I'm voice of Jesus"........Rock On!!!

This was the song that got me into metal when I was 12 years old. We were traveling in our car, playing it on a cassette and my father noted: “Take a listen to the music we were listening back in the days”
This is the heaviest song of the 70’s that rivals only Rainbow’s “Stargazer”, and they were both written by Ritchie Blackmore

Fantastic analysis amigo! You know many young reactors focus on the guitar this and did you hear that top hat that with classic rock. What they will never know is the feeling of the time and how that music connected to what was going on in the world. So whether it was war, love, or sparking one up, early rock was much more than instruments and singing.

I Saw Deep Purple live in Pittsburgh in the 70's. When they did "Child in time" It was pretty much beyond description to actually experience this live. Ian's voice was resonating through the arena and to be honest, you can't really describe it, you had to be there to experience it! Incredible!!

I'm so envious! I only saw them in 1985 during the reunion phase. It was totally awesome to see all the MK2 guys together at the time, but Gillan's voice had already weakened somewhat by that point. Early 70s was really the time to see them live.

That Video was on TV and the song was shortened from Jon's Organ Solo and Ritchie's Solo. That was good but the Greatest Version is without a doubt the Made in Japan Version. Purple was probably the greatest live performing group of the Unholy Trinity. Deep Purple just came out and kicked your ass.

U can hear on this 1970 record that Deep Purple was an experienced, seasoned rock band... this was their 4th studio album (5th overall) at the time - the members had been playing music for years, first in Roundabout, before renaming themselves Deep Purple in 1968... they had established themselves as a pop rock band, but were frustrated by their creative progress.
Ian Gillan (vocals) and Roger Glover (bass) had played together in a hippie band called Episode 6... both were recruited in 1969 to replace 2 original members... Jon Lord (keyboards) suggested the band record a symphonic album w/ an orchestra in 1969, that became the 'Concerto' album... then Ritchie Blackmore suggested they follow Led Zeppelin into the hard rock sound... the first single was 'Black night' in 1970 and it was a hit. The chemistry in Deep Purple's 'Mark II' line-up was explosive in the studio and on stage from the 'In rock' album and beyond... in fact, Deep Purple's 1972 live album 'Made in Japan' is considered one of the greatest in rock history... (the late) Jon Lord said there was no studio work done on that album (like most 'live' albums😂) It was rush-released just because the band loved the tapes that they heard from the Japan concerts that were recorded.
From what I gathered, Led Zeppelin's live album 'The song remains the same' was also not patched up in the studio - it was a raw, flawed representation of Zeppelin in concert... Black Sabbath had an unauthorized live album 'Live at last' which were tapes recorded from a 1972 tour released by their ex-manager... But of the 3 live records, Deep Purple's 'Made in Japan' was the fan favorite, purely on energy, intensity and precision... Deep Purple did record another live album 'Made in Europe' w/ David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass & vocals) in the band, but it didn't do as well...

Less creative? David you are to nice. It’s no such thing as ,, general direction ,, today. I think the last 25, 30 yrs was a torture for music lowers. All those, untalented wannabes ruled the airways. But I can tell you, they are finished by such new artists like Grace Vanderwaal, Iron Cross, Billie Ellish, Star Crawler, ,, isn’t it interesting those I mentioned are all Girls as frontman ? No, front women ,, and just a very short list about the new generations. I know they are listening to all the great ones, maybe not gonna reach the perfection, but still a breath of fresh air. We don’t know what the future has in his or her pocket, but I did not loosen faith yet. Look them up friend, could be a surprise for you. Peace brother!!!
