This is not a concert environment. This is from a filming for TV broadcast. In those days, audiences would obtain tickets and not know who the guests were. The directors instruct the audience to remain still and not make noise as either would be detrimental to the recording and filming. Add to that, that Deep Purple was on the bleeding edge, and way ahead of their time! The crowd would be more familiar with Paul Anka or Peggy Lee and most likely had not been exposed to this kind of music nor this level of musicianship in the scene that emerged out of early rock & roll and folk influenced pop they heard more of in the late 60s. This kind of audience behavior during performances was typical whether it be seen on The Midnight Special or even the big-band sounds of The Lawrence Welk Show. That said, I’m certain most had no idea what they were hearing. 😂
Deep Purple MkII remains one of the finest assembly of musicians in the history or “rock.” Brilliant improvisation was characteristic of their live shows, as they were not interested in playing through a strict, scored set show to show. It tended to be more influenced by the moment, mood, and ambience of a particular venue and how the band gelled on that day. Very much more like a jazz or blues performance than contemporary groups like The Who or Pink Floyd. Similar many Prog rock bands, Deep Purple is best left in a league of its own as they blazed their way pushing all envelopes in their own unique direction. Like no other, and influential to many, Deep Purple remains among the all-time treasures of recorded music.
R.I.P. Jon Lord 🙏, you made your Hammond into a mighty virtual orchestra of Rock!

This is a protest song about the cold war a masterpiece. everyone of these muso’s is a craftsman on his instrument, Ian Gillan has a voice range of 3 octaves he is brilliant. the horror of war as so many died or came home and committed suicide with PTSD. Try Space trukin’ or Hiway star for something less serious but I love it!

DEEP PURPLE, "CHILD IN TIME". Singer Ian Gillan, besides being this bands front man. He played Jesus, in the Play Jesus Christ Supestar. I'm guessing because of his brilliant vocal range. As demonstrated on this track. more... "Maybe I'm a Leo", "Pictures of Home", "Never Before", "Lazy", "Space Truckin"..

Deep Purple and Pink Floyd were part of the same 70's British progressive rock movement. They were contemporaries and were pushing against the same limits of the music ideas that were dominated by AM radio play at that time. The progressive rock movement disregarded the need to create short songs so they would get played on the radio and instead created long epic compositions which melted different styles/genres together usually within an album long theme.

This was performed in front of a German television audience and they were instructed to remain calm and quiet throughout the show.

I don't think this sounds anything like Floyd, tbh, whichever way round you frame it. I think he's just not used to hearing keyboards in heavy rock... I second your recommendation though! Anything from the 'Made in Japan' album is more than worth a listen. Greatest live album of all-time in many people's eyes. Mine included. Then again, I may be biased, as it was the 2nd album I ever bought! :)

Definitely is a Deep Purple vib. Jon Lord was the Hendrix of the Hammond. And Ritchie Blackmore on the Gibson could teach Hendrix a thing or two. Check out Ritchie's next band called Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals...."Stargazer" is a great starting point.

What do i expect!? Constant interruptions ruin the flow if the track. Especially during key points in the song. I prefer (as many do) to insert a break during, comment, and then comment on your thoughts and feelings after the track when you have a full scope of the song as a whole. You can do what you wish, i for one will never listen to your channel. Dr G
