  • Why not build your own home garage gym? Save money and get fit doing it! I built this folding rig over 3 weekends, finishing in February 2020, just in time!
    Design:
You can get your hands on my design files which include all of the major dimensions here: www.barbellsbb...
Or, if you just don't have the time or tools, you could simply order one online through a reputable gym equipment supplier. I can highly recommend Bulldog Gear's rig and equipment in general. My Crossfit gym is fully kitted out with Bulldog Gear. The best part is, having partnered with them, if you order ANY items through this link: bulldoggear.co... - you'll be entitled to a 10% discount off ANYTHING you order when using the code "STRUAN10" at check-out (UK shipping only), that's a pretty impressive deal! Just make sure you visit the link above as well as my discount code at check-out.
    YOU'LL NEED:
    Tools:
    Grinder: amzn.to/45BIhVM
    Handheld drill: amzn.to/3BQptV6
    Drill press: amzn.to/3MQrLd2
    17mm drill bit (heavy-duty for steel): amzn.to/3IzpZu9
    Mig-Welder (or a professional with one): amzn.to/3BNDoeD
    Cut-off saw: amzn.to/42Yepkq
    Materials:
    3 "x 3" square mild steel (76 x 76mm)
    3" x 1/5" flat bar (76 x 5mm)
    32mm pull up bar
16mm round bar for j-hook pins
    Dimensions:
    Uprights: 2500mm
    Arms from the wall: 1150mm
Width apart: based on a standard Olympic barbell - 1100mm
    Hole spacing: 50mm and 25mm

Very cool and impressive. In my case, I wanted to make my own rack and certainly not to the level of craftsmanship if this, but I found the cost of materials far exceeded the price of purchasing one.

Struan Bourquin Arizona. Can get a 21.5 inch, 3x3, 11 gauge folding wall rack for $250-500, depending on quality. I explored many DIY options (except wood I wasn’t interested in), and I couldn’t come close to doing it for less just on materials, and there’s no way I could have come close to your level of craftsmanship. I don’t have the tools.

Hi! Question. Are the racks touching the ground or are they floating right above it?

    • @strubeans
      @strubeans  4 роки тому +6

The uprights stand firmly on the ground once folded out so the weight goes directly to the floor. The is a bit of give where the support arms attach to the wall so when there is no weight on the rack, you ca lift the uprights up a few millimeters.

I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

Some things are worth paying for than doing myself and the Rogue RML-3W was well worth the money over my time and effort to do this home build. I value my time a lot more that a few hundred dollars and it can be better spent on other things.
Nice job though except it's not the best idea to mount it to only the two studs. You did all that work, you should've added stringers to span at least 4 studs for more robustness.

    • @strubeans
      @strubeans  4 роки тому +1

Thanks a lot for the comments. I really appreciate it. I live in South Africa, we can't get Rogue equipment here (without extremely high shipping costs) and our local suppliers don't build them anywhere near Rogue's quality. So I probably saved around $800 - $1000 building the bench, rig and bumper plate rack myself.
In South Africa, we build houses out of brick and mortar, top to bottom, so no need for a stringer :) It is rock solid when folded out :) I would love a RML-3W, it was my inspiration.

@@strubeans Ah, ok I understand. From the video I couldn't tell that the wall was block. Still couldn't hurt to use stringers anyway and have multiple mounting points for added stability.

You could add threaded leveling feet.
Unfold the rack, unscrew the feet to get firm contact with the ground.
Just use a big enough diameter of bolt to support the weight

Hey Francisco, I just welded 2 pieces of 76mm flat bar to a square base plate and drilled a hole straight through each piece of flat bar and the arms of the rig. Put a bolt through and it folds perfectly :)

Oh i thought this would mean diy like anyone can do it. Not needing a machinery and fabrication shop.

I made it in my garage :) I bought a used welding machine and borrowed the drill press from a friend :)
