- How to Build a Home Half Rack which is mobile and can be used either in your home, your garage or outside. Move it anywhere!
With the HALF RACK you can perform a variety of exercises including pull-ups, squats, overhead press, bench press and more! And unlike the POWER RACK, it's also portable and can be moved indoors our outdoors relatively easily.
In this DIY video we'll go through how to make the HALF RACK using a minimal amount of tools and supplies with easy tutorial instructions. You'll have yourself a weight lifting piece of gym equipment in no time!
Let me know if you'd like to see me build more DIY gym equipment - I'd love to make a complete outdoor DIY Gym! Until next time...STAY BUFF. -DUKE

And when we needed him most, he returned
So nice, thankyou 😀
The avatar has returned
Hell yea!
Came to the comment section to say the same thing! I’ve been waiting on this video!
I just built my half rack combo!!! I'm so stoked.
I've been watching this video over and over, waiting for this moment. I got the pressure treated lumber a few weeks ago, then the parts. But I couldn't find the plates and the "unions" (or couplings).
Lately, there have been lumber shortages out here in the Bay Area and Central California.
But I finally had time to cut the 10' posts into all the sections. In the video, he skips the shorter floor beams, which are 21". But you can see them in the diagram.
Then, I assembled the parts with a little help in my backyard. So, far so good. I already have the adjustable bench. Now, I'm just waiting on my new 45 lb Olympic bar and some plates! Woo hoo!
Thanks, DIY Duke!
I'm back.
DIY Duke awesome!
Please don't leave us for 30 years again duke
DIY Duke are you serious about the how much weight does it take to break 4x4 because you really got my hopes up for that video
Welcome back!!!
You were missed, buff dad!
Buff Duke is that really cool father figure that you look up to as a kid, and even as an adult
Thankyou Sean, so happy about that 😀 See you next video
@@diyduke Duke, you're the man. We love you, buddy! :)
@@denniskurz9135 Dennis, thankyou so much 😀
I noticed some shaking and am concerned so I’ll be praying for D.I.Y. Duke to be blessed to be around another 20 years. 🙏🏾
I noticed too. He'll definitely be shooting for that 3 figure mark(100).
It's an inherited condition called essential tremors. As many as one in 20 people older than age 40 and one in five people over 65 may have essential tremor. I got a few good years left 😉
My nana quivered so much she vibrated, but it didnt impact her life much and she lasted until 94
DIY Duke Good 🙏🏾
Id never seen it in any other videos and I’m like...it ain’t stop him from building anything else. Just didn’t know if it was recent or progressive kinda thing. Much love and blessings ✊🏾💪🏾
DIY Duke dude jus means you used them hand a lot in your life man props to you an all your work an gains
Duke talks to the camera with a lot of sincerity that it’s sort of comforting. Great man!
Thankyou 😀
This man is a treasure and must be protected at all cost.
I made a half-rack of my own design and a homemade barbell and weights myself this week. I made the mistake of posting a picture of it. Now I'm getting messages from people I haven't spoken to in 5 years. This is what girls must feel like when they get out of a longterm relationship
🤣
Pics or it didnt happen
Was your design similar to this? Did you use 4x4 beams for support? What was your hole spacing? @DIY Duke uses 3.5" spaced holes, but to accommodate both my wife and I I would need some holes to be 2" spaced, and I'm really hoping that won't jeopardize the strength of the setup
I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B
I've never seen a video with this many views yet 0 dislikes. Says a lot about how much people appreciate these equipment builds during this time of need
Perfect timing with the gyms being closed... we need all the diy gyms we can get....
He is a national treasure. Spend as much time with him as you can!
great to have you back DIY DUKE i missed your videos, i made my own half rack, im very happy with it, i attached a pulley system in the centre of it, i can do lat pull down plus tricep psuh downs, i also attached a lower rack with just a couple of 2x4 layered over the main uprights, so now i can also preform bench press from the half rack using my home made bench.
I built this as a DIY novice, so I just wanted to say thanks Duke for the very accessible & (mostly) complete video!
A few things:
A) the video somewhat skims over ALL the locations for the nail plates (namely at the junction of the main mast and the base), but you can see them in shots toward the end of the video.
B) I needed more than 1lb. of deck screws (at 1 5/8 length) to complete the project. Buy 2lb to be safe.
C) If you play it right, you can get the holes in the two plates to line up so you don't have to screw through the metal (e.g. at 13:47). Not a big deal but if you are slightly OCD like me it feels good.
D) I built mine higher so I could dead hang without touching the ground. I'm 6'2", and I cut the vertical pieces to 97". For this I bought 2x10' and 2x14' pieces of lumber (hardware store was out of 12 footers) This adds mass obviously, but hey why not get BUFF just moving your rack around?
Thanks again!
“This adds mass obviously”
I sure hope it does 😂. We’re the same height so thanks for sharing this!
About how much would you say this project cost? Just wondering for myself!
@@darianmccoy6433 I remember spending about $150 on this project at my friendly local hardware store, but I had to buy a couple tools, & I doubled up the plumbing in order to have two sets of rack pins. In raw materials, you can probably land around $100-$120 at a big chain store.
14:46 sir you hit the hardest "buff dude style" i have ever seen. I felt that.
Hell yeah, the world needs more Duke! Welcome back 😀💪
😀 thankyou my good friend 💪
Love the vid!! Reminds me of building things around my parents house and with my dad. Thanks so much and God bless!!
Outdoor DUMBBELLS!... YEAAH
Made this last year. I use it daily. My friends like to use this when they come over. :) thanks duke! You rock.
Just built this and it works great! Parts costed me about 125 which is way cheaper than trying to buy a metal half rack right now. Thank you so much DIY Duke for the design and for helping me stay a buff dude during all these gym closures!
Yes!!! Great to see you're back. Will definitely be making this soon!
Awesome! Keep them coming we appreciate all your hard work
Duke rocks!...I'm 55 and your an inspiration to us older dudes trying to stay fit.
My wife n I just decided to build our own power rack because the on-post gyms are still closed, and I found your channel. So glad I did. Thanks very much and God bless.

Thank you so much for this Buff Dad! I just finished building my half rack and I LOVE IT! Thank you for the directions...I also made my own bench just like yours. I wanted to initially do a power rack...but I'll be moving soon so I don't want to have to transport it...half rack is way easier for that. Us DIYers truly appreciate you.
Thankyou so much Mark, glad I could help 😀
Welcome Back Duke! That was a great build! Keep em coming Buff Daddy!

❤️this channel‼️
In DUKE we trust!
