Lexus in 2009 made changes to the VVT gear so less prone to this issue. My 19 year old IS250 is thankfully clear of that problem as always had very regular oil changes.
@davyarthurs AHH I see, at least they eventually fixed it 😂 I must admit, I know it doesn't really hurt anything but it makes me shudder every time I hear it on startup!
It’s not that the 350s don’t have direct injection it’s that for some reason Toyota had the oversight to put direct AND port injection on the 2GR-FEs and 2GR-FSEs along with the 3GR-FSEs for whatever reason, but the 4GR? Nope, just direct. Set them up for long term failure just about, that’s why the 3.0 is a common swap for folks who blow their original 2.5s
I see, thanks for the clarification! Very strange, I'll be honest though I haven't heard of engine failure from the carbon buildup and it's so easy (just long winded) to clean that personally I'll just be doing that every few years or so. I have heard the 2GR 3.0 is a straight swap even IS250 ECU works however which is very cool!
good question, dealership rates are maybe £100 an hour nowadays, they'll be quicker at disassembling it than me no doubt but the cleaning still takes a good few hours, plus consumables. You're looking at maybe £400-500 perhaps? not worth it in my opinion. A good independent garage may do it a lot cheaper or DIY it :)
Definitely post more of these bro. I’ve got an IS250 as well and I need to do this soon too so thanks
Thanks man, appreciate the comment and kind words. I love the car so will definitely be more videos coming soon :)
@ thanks man, this is a big job so I’m hoping I can do it in a day
@youngmateta should be able to manage! I just started late and also snapped that loom I mentioned is the only reason I didn't get it done in a day!
@ I’ll try to avoid doing that aye
@youngmateta use my failure to your advantage 😂

Less prone to the VVT rattle or the carbon buildup?
@@Enginesetcsorry the VVT rattle

The carbon build up fix/maintenance. How much do you think it'll cost if I were to do it in a Lexus dealership?

Own a 2010 2is 😂shud i worry about this ?
Yeah it can be an issue man! If you have the time and patience definitely worth doing as preventative maintenance!
I used to work at Lexus back in the day those IS250s were all taken apart engine wise
You mean always been worked on?
With the greatest respect, after that comment I question your honesty of your work history. IS220s absolutely, IS250s, I doubt it very much.
I'm owner of a 2008 2IS.
Great cars, enjoy! I love this thing
