Lexus in 2009 made changes to the VVT gear so less prone to this issue. My 19 year old IS250 is thankfully clear of that problem as always had very regular oil changes.
Less prone to the VVT rattle or the carbon buildup?
@@Enginesetcsorry the VVT rattle
@davyarthurs AHH I see, at least they eventually fixed it 😂 I must admit, I know it doesn't really hurt anything but it makes me shudder every time I hear it on startup!
@@Enginesetc😢hope you get some more videos in
@davyarthurs thanks man, working on another lexus video right now and other filming this weekend 😎 I love this car to be honest!

It’s not that the 350s don’t have direct injection it’s that for some reason Toyota had the oversight to put direct AND port injection on the 2GR-FEs and 2GR-FSEs along with the 3GR-FSEs for whatever reason, but the 4GR? Nope, just direct. Set them up for long term failure just about, that’s why the 3.0 is a common swap for folks who blow their original 2.5s
I see, thanks for the clarification! Very strange, I'll be honest though I haven't heard of engine failure from the carbon buildup and it's so easy (just long winded) to clean that personally I'll just be doing that every few years or so. I have heard the 2GR 3.0 is a straight swap even IS250 ECU works however which is very cool!
Hey mate, did you reuse the front strut tower bearing? Or did you just run it without any?
Hi bud, if you mean the top mount bearing yeah I just reused all of the top mount including whatever bearings etc were in it. Really I would recommend getting new ones whilst you're already there tbh I was just being cheap haha
Thanks for a great video, very helpful. What aux in Bluetooth did you use? Thanks 🙏

Sorry, but I'd rather watch you doing the work struggling like it really is, than watch a vid you talking about it ! Please go back to the basics !
You're right mate I did struggle to get much footage of this, I do struggle sometimes in-between weather and when it's a tricky job! Apologies it wasn't an ideal video, I do still suffer sometimes with wanting to crack on with a job, which isn't ideal when I'm tryna make a video I know

I have a 2008 Mercedes 320 Bluetec and that red knob IS the oil dipstick. Just went through this and my certified Mercedes mechanic showed me how to check it both ways.
It can be different on different engines but glad you have an actual dipstick, much easier! :)
Own a 2010 2is 😂shud i worry about this ?
Yeah it can be an issue man! If you have the time and patience definitely worth doing as preventative maintenance!
AWESOME ! ... Thanks Mate... - Hull, Quebec... '05 XC70

@ I’ll try to avoid doing that aye
@youngmateta use my failure to your advantage 😂
Would this work on a 2014 plate a220 cdi?
I think they probably use a different engine, not too sure on that model, however the principle of EGR's is the same. Just the way it attached might be different
Do you need to connect to computer for fuel filter change ?
Nope no need
Engines etc. sorry to be a downer,,,,,,,,but with that revving going on ,,,,it looks like your driver's side engine mount. may be weak,,,,,,,good video!!~
I agree, engine does move quite a lot doesn't it! Thanks for commenting :)
just installed sensors on the same car, it's not necessary to remove the bumper, i drilled the holes in the same place and put a guide wire to pull the wires under the bumber, after that i used the hole for the trailer wires to bring them inside the trunk, a few hours job in total 🍻🍻
Ah thanks for the info, going to pin this comment so others know it's not necessary to remove bumper. I did it because I didn't know what access was going to be like and couldn't be bothered messing around 😂 good to know you can do it without though, thanks!
Have any recommendations on getting the part that you wiggle back forth up down etc to remove without the rest of the arm..? Long story short I snapped it off not realizing.. any tips would be appreciated greatly thank you.
Hi mate, some pliers or mole grips would work, grip it tightly from the front and then just wiggle that same way you would without the arm. Alternatively cut it off carefully/destructively remove it if you've got a new arm to go back on and this is junked anyway!
My one is totaly jamed in there, tried snaping it out but not helping
Just keep trying man, keep doing the trick I mentioned with revving it with the bolts backed out. Also try some lubricant spray maybe. It can be tough but don't get ham fisted and break it, patience and effort will pay off for you
The carbon build up fix/maintenance. How much do you think it'll cost if I were to do it in a Lexus dealership?
good question, dealership rates are maybe £100 an hour nowadays, they'll be quicker at disassembling it than me no doubt but the cleaning still takes a good few hours, plus consumables. You're looking at maybe £400-500 perhaps? not worth it in my opinion. A good independent garage may do it a lot cheaper or DIY it :)
Hey dude, I've got the P0401 code after changing a SAM unit which has died, I've changed the MAF sensor as when idling and taking the connectors off it didnt change idle at all. Still got the code after cleaning the EGR and it moves correctly. Any idea what to look at next? I have cleared the codes and get a minute of driving properly before the car goes back into limp mode and EML comes on. Any help would be appreciated!
That's a good question, I haven't personally had that at all but I would suggest it could be the EGR not opening fully after a quick google? First port of call really is get the car on a really good scanner that can also read live data, otherwise I'm afraid you'll just be firing the parts cannon at it. An autel or snapon scanner can show much more accurate fault codes and live data than a cheapo reader so I would suggest this first and narrow down the problem mate. Can check MAF values etc under load too!
I used to work at Lexus back in the day those IS250s were all taken apart engine wise
You mean always been worked on?
With the greatest respect, after that comment I question your honesty of your work history. IS220s absolutely, IS250s, I doubt it very much.
You are the best thank you 👍

Hahahhah yeah my volvo's struts were cooked too (bent a bit even). Idk if they were original or not.ended up getting ones from a junker mk3 golf. Just exchanged the.....heads? The ends of the strut. I think ill need to replace em too because it holds but doesnt open the boot on their own
Yeah the ends I know which bit you mean. IT's such an annoying part, it's not too bad till it falls on your head and it makes you so angry haha

Thank you, means a lot :)
I just had my c class coupe fail it’s mot with two broken front springs. The mot was at Halfords and they said they couldn’t repair it it had to go to Mercedes specialist because they didn’t have the right spring compressor. After speaking to the specialist at garage they said a lot of garages take there work to them because they haven’t got the right equipment. Yeah so for two new springs and to anti roll bar links the bill was £370!! So definitely worth doing yourself if you can
Halfords are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard anyway but yes it can be a bit awkward without the correct ones as I show here, it is doable though and with a tower compressor which they should have, they should've been able to do it. That's a hefty bill mate sorry to hear that but glad its sorted now at least!
Thanks brothwr❤
Hope it helped!
I now own this car 👍
No way haha, very cool! It's a cool motor, I did see it for sale quite a lot following my friend selling it. Does it still look the same?
Good video mate. BTW which coils did you fit ?
Thank you appreciate the kind words! Was just cheapo Ridex springs from autodoc, I find they last well and seem to feel ok for a standard replacement part
@@Enginesetcthanks. I’m stuck at 14:33 .. is it an idea to use some silicone grease on the top mount rubber to slide it easier into place ?
@@Sim-ru6sr a bit of silicone spray might be helpful, I'd be worried about any thick grease interfering with the fit or allowing slippage when installed. Admittedly it is a bit awkward as you're trying to press the whole shock assembly up into an area you cant see and it has to be aligned right. It can also help if you can get a ajck underneath the assembly and push it up into place so all you have to do is align it
Mines already lowered, coils both cracked front After 6 years no issue, now have to replace, seems easier to swap out thé whole unit ..both sides than just replace thé coils.. thoughts ? Got a link to what you bought
I would say yes replace the full unit for sure, fresh dampers then too! I do not I'm afraid, it was on ebay years ago now. I just got whichever was the cheapest ones on ebay 😂
Hello mate, have you shown what the rattle noise sounded like in any of the previous videos with this car? Came up in my recommended and I have a rattling noise on mine also, would love to see if its the same
Hi, sadly I couldn't really capture it on camera so it isn't shown, sorry! If you slap the caliper like in the clip I inserted you can see if it has excess movement, it should be very stiff! It was like a thumping at times, on rough or cobbled streets it was so bad and constant budumdumdumdum, and if I dragged the brakes it went away (probably cos when braking it clamps and stabilises itself against the disc if that makes sense. Good luck man, it's a nightmare tryna find rattles!
bro your damper adjustment front and back how many click?
I went for the recommended Tein settings, it's in the middle so 11/10 I think! When I get my wheels on and lower the car I'll likely go stiffer to prevent excess rubbing
bro 11/10 setting from max 16 click anti-clockwise to 11/10 click?
@@Tommy-wo4hg mine's got up to 20 i think? I can't remember precisely and dont have the book to hand, I just did it in the middle between soft and stiff :)
Bro idk
im planning get a 250 as first car, love watching these vids for future problems 😅
Man, what a great first car this will be for you! Thanks, stay tuned for next video, I fix the biggest issue these cars suffer with (there's not many to be honest they're great!)
How do you check oil to see how clean oil is on w209 Mercedes 2004
Well, short of draining it there's not really a way to do so. Just make sure you're changing it every 8k miles and you'll be fine!
Why do 17mm e-torx sockets seem hard to get hold of?
A lot of the e-torx stuff is hard to get annoyingly, luckily my halfords toolkit form 2011 still has it haha
What year ur 250?
Hi, it's a 2007! Would highly recommend one, I love this to be honest
Dude, you skipped show us the hardest part...get tit off the shaft. Very poor video.
I get to that exact menu but it doesnt tell me nothing about oil it says m272 E25 what does that mean
M272 E25 your engine code if you have a V6 petrol mate, when you cycle through it with the up and down arrow is there nothing else? You can switch menus with the square icon button and then from each screen set you can cycle through those settings with the arrows or the plus button I can't remember which off the top of my head
I’ve tried everything but I don’t get this menu. I’ve tried DAS to activate the menu but nothing. Do you have suggestions? Thanks!
Do you get any of the menus? Can you cycle through to anywhere other than Speedo or temp?

Isn't it still too low? Isn't all of the white part of the tank suppose to be filled right up to the black part but not over. Also, isn't there a plastic "T" inside which indicates the proper level. That plastic bit should be submerged just a bit? The cap doesn't make a click when putting it on?
I think the facelift w203 has the scale on the side. I have the pre facelift version and im currently unsure how much to put in. I have read on the internet to use a black plastic indicator on the inside of the tank. But Im still unsure if I use the right one. If someone knows pls help.

what size was the allen key for the fuel filter clamp bolt? was it 5mm?
I believe it's either a 4 or 5 yes :)
You do know the reason for deionised water is to prevent all that gunk, all the impurities in the tap water cause issues, corrosion and blocking ect, and tap water has a different boiling point. Coolant has rust inhibiting abilities, but what’s the point if your using tap water 🤦♂️ also draining the coolant on the drive way is not good, very toxic for the wild life and particularly cats.
You're right, de ioned water is best to use, however the coolant itself has properties that helps stop corrosion and gunk etc so if you're mixing tap water with an equal amount of coolant, it'll be fine. I've never had an issue and not really heard of any issues from it. If you were to use a heavily dilute coolant i.e. mostly tap water then yes, you may have issues you're right :) also I know, I was meant to get a bucket under it or something but as you can see it took me by surprise, nearly drowned myself so sadly it did spill. I rinsed it away with plenty of water to dilute it though so did what I could in the situation, I have 3 cats of my own so I didn't want any wildlife being harmed!
That isn't the way to bleed breaks, you pump the break pedal then tell the person to keep the pedal down they undo the nipple' then tight it up when the pedal is all the way to the floor
Either way works fella, doesn't matter either way I've always got a good pedal this way :)
hi i have a Mercedes W203 646 engine 220cdi the problem is that it showed check engine light took it to the workshop and diagnosed it and the error was low boost pressure. i have change the boost pressure sensor with the original part number and still the same problem i have also checked to see if there are some air leakages but none is found on the horse pipes and inter-cooler i have also tested the EGR and the ECU they are all fine and still low boost. i have also tried different actuators, EGR and different turbos and Air Mass but still the problem is the same. kindly help
In my opinion you should get a proper smoke test done, to look for any microscopic leaks (I've seen a pinhole in the intercooler on this one which caused issues but wasnt visible to the eye). Then also get a proper workshop to diagnose it with live data etc. they should be able to use the diagnostic machine to see WHY the boost pressure is low, the cause of it not just the symptom. Rather than changing parts and spending money for no reason
This helped me out i was overfilling my coolant and it caused the car to boil over thanks!
Glad I could help :) Hope the car is ok now
